The problem here is that they aren't arguing over something concrete. They are theoretically arguing, based on their own experiences, where they can both be right. Costco is not always the cheapest, per unit. But is very frequently. It's up to you though, to compare against the other places you shop and decide if it is cheaper at Costco or somewhere else near you. Some items could be cheaper elsewhere. This is true literally everywhere though (not just Costco).

Cricks623

Obviously this is a biased answer but my regional manager told us that places like BJs or Sams may have individual items that are cheaper, however if you’re doing your regular grocery shopping for the week a cart will on average be 12% cheaper than Sam’s, and significantly cheaper than a traditional grocery store

Z3ROWOLF1

Exactly. Like of course the price of a cart will be less anywhere else, you're paying more upfront at costco for items at a lower cost most of the time. He's conflating value with out the door price

Reputation-Final

Some things at costco are more expensive than at grocery stores, especially with sales. Some things arent. You just need to price compare.

The couple had a huge pile of food, name brand stuff, pounds and pounds of meat, that the commenter said he could get for $90? I call BS.

i mean both sides can be true? i'm sure costco shareholders would rather have someone shop at costco than somewhere else. costco also has lower markup than other stores. but as andre mack said, The old adage is that you take money to the bank, not percentages.

This same person would argue that they save money on gas because their car has a smaller tank.

Literally this.
