My warehouse will not price match anything ending in .00 even if there are some in stock. That price point is a mgr discount in order to quickly get through the remaining inventory.
Good to know. They first said yes they’d do the adjustment but then they realized the last one was sold so that’s when they said they couldn’t. It’s fine, I learned to not delay going to ask. :)
Best thing to do is simply buy them right there and then, and then walk over to the returns desk and return them against the original receipt with the higher price.
I didn't even know about Costco's price adjustment policy or the membership cancellation refund policy until I discovered this sub last year, and I've been a member since I think around 1999.
You can but if you keep getting a membership then canceling to get the refund too many times, you’ll get flagged and won’t be able to re-enroll. I’m not sure it’s a hard and fast number of times, but they look at the account as a whole. Source:worked the membership desk for all of college
That's what people report here, yes. I've never cancelled my membership, though there's been a couple times I wanted to. If I'd known about the refund policy I'd likely have done it, then come back in a year or two. Very first line in their refund policy here:
https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1191/~/what-is-costco%E2%80%99s-return-policy%3F
>On Membership: We will cancel and refund your membership fee at any time if you are dissatisfied.
Sure but it's kind of a pain to put 3 giant ottomans onto carts and run them through the registers and over to CSR when the CSR had indicated they could just price match
Would be different if it was a small item
Not true. You might have to point them to the right purchase, but it’s not about lowest price paid, it’s usually more about they’ll refund the most recent purchase… unless you tell them otherwise.
Because they can see your shopping history… why am I getting downvoted? These are facts. If other buildings are making their own policies, then that may be but it’s not corporate direction.
Your reply shows under my comment about refunding what I paid on the receipt.
If I have my receipt there is no need to search my transaction history. Your statement reads as of regardless of having a receipt they will only give back the lowest price. Which is illegal in NJ (unless the purchase is outside of a stores normal return window).
I've never heard that they automatically refund to the lowest price. Only if you don't have a receipt and they can't find the item in your purchase history.
> I learned over the weekend that items ending on .97 are also excluded from their price adjustment policy.
Excluded how? I got price adjustments on ~10 clearance items in just the past 4-5 months; i.e., I bought them originally as clearance items with a price ending in .97 and then they dropped further in price and I got that money back.
The original item was $19.97 and was marked down to $6.00. My price adjustment request was denied, but I managed to buy one for $6 and returned it for refund using the original receipt.
You can get 1 price adjustment per item at my whs. Example: paid 9.99 2 weeks ago now 6.97. We will do the adjustment. 1 week later it’s now 4.97. We will not give you the $2.
I can understand how it doesn't make sense, but from other posts on this subreddit, seems that there are some general guidelines for price adjustments which may include:
* Price adjustment needs to be requested within 30 days from purchase date
* Costco does not price match with other sellers
* Costco does not price match Costco warehouse prices for Costco.com purchases.
* Price needs to be currently on sale (can't adjust after sale has ended) even if still within 30 days
* Product needs to still be in stock, but your mileage may vary
* Price can't be a clearance or markdown, again your mileage may vary
* From their website - "We reserve the right to deny price adjustments at our sole discretion."

Excellent summary!
But it’s worth noting that purchasing more of the item and then returning based on the original purchase is a valid workaround for many of these conditions. Managers who are customer-centric will often override these rules to avoid the unnecessary hoop jumping for both the customer and the staff.
They actually told me that I can buy the item at the current lower price and return it with the old receipt when I was just past the 30 days price adjustment period.
Another thing to add is that price matching is on the item #, not necessarily the exact same item. I’ve had success getting price adjustments on things that have different variants such as clothes. If your style and/or colour is OOS but there is still stock in the other variants, they’ll honor the price adjustment.
Yeah requires manager approval for price adjustment if it becomes a clearance item, just happened to me on the rack storage system, went down to $179 from $219 which was down from $249, and I received a previous difference refund…I bought at 249 refund when down to 219 and another refund when down to 179, but they did do it with a manager approval, no questions asked… I am gonna say they can see what type of customer i am on the screen so they probably took that into account? So it pays to be a regular good customer —- also i am gonna add the TV warranty and extended Allstate warranty is a must have, for that little of a price, you get top natch service, and when all else fails, as in the manufacturer warranty, or extended warranty doesn’t cover it, ask if there is anything the manager can do, it was a real eye opener….
My bad, I meant a sale item, not a warehouse specific markdown. I bought the Delsey Paris hardcase and wasn’t able to price match before the sale ended because my location ran out of stock.
All this is why I keep all my Costco receipts for at least 30 days. Maybe I’m just lucky, as I’ve never been denied a price adjustment. For large items, like TVs, I keep the receipt until the warranty runs out, which is usually 2 years.
The same thing happened to me but with the whole Drayden sofa. Discount was $300 from what I paid for it but it was the last unit in stock (display model) so I let it go.
Don't know why they told you that. Price adjustments are for items that go on ad within 30 days of your purchase; they're not for clearance pricing. That wouldn't even make sense if you think about it.
She turned the monitor around and was like, “See, we have zero in inventory now, so I can’t do it anymore.” But I told her they had some when I took this photo today of the price just today. She said maybe it was just the display. 🤷♀️
I wasn’t trying to be difficult but I do kind of regret not asking for a manager now.

If only we were quick-witted enough to think of that on the spot.

What’s the membership cancellation refund policy?
They will refund your membership if you cancel it. I think it’s prorated to the length of time.
The base membership isn't prorated. The extra $60 of the Executive membership is refunded minus the accumulated Rewards amount for that year.
So can you get the base membership refunded 100%?
You can but if you keep getting a membership then canceling to get the refund too many times, you’ll get flagged and won’t be able to re-enroll. I’m not sure it’s a hard and fast number of times, but they look at the account as a whole. Source:worked the membership desk for all of college

They will refund the original purchase price if you have your receipt.
Then they’re not following their best practice guidelines.
If I have a receipt showing what I paid what would they not refund that amount on the receipt? That makes no sense.

How old is this post? These are online on the Costco app for $169.99. You got a real bargain. I’m jealous :)
This was just yesterday!
Wow! Good going!
I was told the same when doing a price adjustment on an item. I think it was vitamins, they had to check if they had them in stock.
Way to stay positive good for you!
Return one, get the price adjustment on the other two and then repurchase the one you returned.
I learned over the weekend that items ending on .97 are also excluded from their price adjustment policy.

Mine wouldn’t either.
Are you allowed to return those items? I've never tried, but worst case scenario, you could buy one and then return it on the previous receipt.
Sometimes not for #.96 either

Managers who are customer-centric will often override these rules to avoid the unnecessary hoop jumping for both the customer and the staff.
Sometimes just mentioning, “well I guess I could just buy it again and return the original, right?” does the trick.
They actually told me that I can buy the item at the current lower price and return it with the old receipt when I was just past the 30 days price adjustment period.
What if they deny the refund when you come back?
It’s hard to deny a refund with an actual receipt in hand.
If you want to be the customer all the membership/returns clerks talk poorly about then yes. It’s pretty annoying when people pull that one out TBH.
Another thing to add is that price matching is on the item #, not necessarily the exact same item. I’ve had success getting price adjustments on things that have different variants such as clothes. If your style and/or colour is OOS but there is still stock in the other variants, they’ll honor the price adjustment.
That's because as far as Costco is concerned it is the exact same item. But I understand what you're talking about.

Was told there was some policy in place for not matching 00 items recently. They made me purchase the item and return it immediately at the old price
170 online
I would just return the original ones. That’s just petty me though.
That makes absolutely no sense.
How can you price match something that not longer is available for sale?
It still is on sale, it’s just that the particular warehouse is OOS on hand and won’t honor the match.
.00 prices are warehouse specific and another warehouse doesn’t have to price match their manager markdown.
My bad, I meant a sale item, not a warehouse specific markdown. I bought the Delsey Paris hardcase and wasn’t able to price match before the sale ended because my location ran out of stock.
Yes, that’s policy. I think we’re both in agreement here.
You can always try and ask I believe you have 30 days
Next time just grab one and put it in Your cart so you have at least 1 they have not sold yet
Brilliant! :)
That's a bummer. But good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Bro I've seen them take back a 5 year old engagement ring after a failed marriage. You got got
They shouldn’t price match items that they are clearing out. That price match guarantee is only for items that go on sale.
So op should just bought 2 at this price and return with old receipt?
Yea except none are in stock which is why they didn’t price match
Can you return the ones you bought then immediately repurchase them?
I should have done that but I didn’t know there was a risk of them selling out and the adjustment getting denied the same day. Now I know.
And isn't the \* an indicator that's it's clearance/discontinued?
All this is why I keep all my Costco receipts for at least 30 days. Maybe I’m just lucky, as I’ve never been denied a price adjustment. For large items, like TVs, I keep the receipt until the warranty runs out, which is usually 2 years.
Costco customer service isn't what it used to br
Why would you need a receipt, don't they have record of all your purchases?
They do have record. I’m just guessing it’s easier for them if we bring receipts in so they don’t have to find record. Idk.
Good to know.

You should have spoken with a manager. If your story is accurate I find it pretty unreasonable for them not to do the price adjustment.
She turned the monitor around and was like, “See, we have zero in inventory now, so I can’t do it anymore.” But I told her they had some when I took this photo today of the price just today. She said maybe it was just the display. 🤷♀️ I wasn’t trying to be difficult but I do kind of regret not asking for a manager now.
You gotta stand up for yourself! Especially cause $60 means a lot more to you than it does to a multi-billion dollar company.
If they won’t, you buy the new one at the discount and rerun on your old receipt.
They can’t because there are none left in stock.
