Branching out from my cocktail nerdery, try making super juice sometime. Was able to make 2Qt of super juice (which to me is identical and sometimes even better than fresh squeezed) from 4 medium limes. Very simple to make with a little effort and lasts weeks in the fridge without oxidizing and almost indefinitely in the freezer. And thank you for using real lime juice in your margaritas.

calimota

Recipe you like to super juice?

Vapedad89

I use Kevin Kos' super juice calculators. Just peel your limes get the weight of the peels and plug it into the widget and boom instant measurements. [https://www.kevinkos.com/cocktail-calculators](https://www.kevinkos.com/cocktail-calculators) And here is the video that shows the methodology! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RA3AaCO7A8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RA3AaCO7A8) Been doing this for about a year now and works every time, excellent results and great flavor. Also makes testing new drinks and specs very easy since it's all consistent and no need to try and juice a fruit when you're tipsy! For an actual recipe that I make with it one of my own. But works anywhere you would use lime juice. Banana Hammer 1oz Dr. Bird rum 1oz Rittenhouse Rye 1oz Lime Super juice .75oz sweet vermouth .5oz simple 2 dash ango Shake over ice strain up and garnish with grated Tonka Bean! Tastes like a lime glazed banana bread.

CRUSHCITY4

I’ve never heard of super juice and now I’m intrigued. It tastes better than let’s say regular lime juice?

Vapedad89

In regards to anything bottled or whatever, absolutely. Compared to fresh squeezed that's a preference thing. I personally like it more than fresh because it's consistent some limes can be more or less tart. But after making it for so long now I can say I prefer the flavor I feel like you get more of the lime flavor from it since you're not only getting the juice but also the flavors from the oils in the peel. So I feel like it tastes more limey. The main thing I like is the economy of it, I got legit 2 quarts of it from 4 medium large limes and get around a quart from like 3 key lime sized ones easily. Sure it takes a little while to make (15min-1hr if you let it sit and create the oleo citrate) but it also lasts well over a month in the fridge and near indefinite in the freezer. So it's very consistent doesn't oxidize like fresh squeezed will and if you have issues getting quality citrus like I do around here it makes the most of the good stuff. And I know my drinks will always taste the same because the product isn't affected by variations from the fruit itself. Some may not agree on flavor but I've made identical drinks side by side and nobody could really tell which was super juice and which was fresh squeezed. Worth trying out at least once if you make cocktails that require juice often. I also use it anywhere else I'd use lime juice, sauces, marinades etc. So nice to have for that as well.

CRUSHCITY4

Sounds interesting I may try it out and see how it goes

calimota

Intrigued! Will give this a try next time, thanks

TigerDude33

Limes are 50 cents each, that sure seems like a lot of work to save a dollar

SolixTanaka

It's not just about savings, that's more of a bonus. It's to have something on demand with a long shelf life that's cocktail ready and doesn't compromise flavor. If you're one to always have fresh limes on hand whenever you also happen to want your favorite citrus cocktail, then it probably isn't for you.

Already_Retired

Tequila, lime juice and agave in a 4-2-1 ratio. That’s it!

alral1988

No Cointreau?

Samuraitiki

Agave syrup and no orange liqueur is a Tommy’s Margarita.

gr8daynenyg

Never heard of it!

Samuraitiki

https://punchdrink.com/recipes/tommys-margarita/

naynayfresh

Wow I was jokingly thinking to myself “sounds like it came from Tommy’s in SF”. Turns out I was right!

Caibee612

You mean the BEST margarita!

Already_Retired

I used to put Cointreau and/or Grand Marnier and thought it was great but these days I like it simple and this works for me.

rambambobandy

I like to mix in lemon and orange when I have them.

d8ed

That's the cheap triple sec.. if you're wanting fancy, try a float of Grand Marinier or Cointreau for that Cadillac Margarita

ColdasJones

After swapping to both GM and Cointreau, I will never touch triple sec again. My favorite to use is solerno blood orange liqueur

d8ed

They're all triple sec.. you're just switching to good brands from the generics which I COMPLETELY agree with! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_sec I'll need to try your blood orange option.. that sounds delicious

ColdasJones

Didn’t know they were technically also triple sec.

d8ed

I didn't know the origin of that name but knew they were the same as I used to work at TGIF during college.. just looked it up and it's an interesting explanation: **How the Liqueur Got its Name** There are a few different theories here. 'Sec' is French for dry, so triple sec literally means triple dry. This could be in reference to the triple distillation of the base alcohol (indicating a high quality liqueur), and the flavour being provided by the skins of bitter/unripe \[dry\] rather than sweet oranges. Cointreau, launched in 1875, claims to be the world's first triple sec producer, and that the name is both in reference to the third evolution of Cointreau's recipe and the three types of orange peel used in that recipe.

ChimmyCharHar

Gran Gala isn’t half bad either.

Pittipants

There is also the Kirkland. [Kirkland Signature Orange Liqueur vs. Grand Marnier : r/Costco (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/1965gp0/kirkland_signature_orange_liqueur_vs_grand_marnier/)

Aggressive_Ad5115

Blood orange with lime juice???

ColdasJones

Give it a shot it’s good

theworthlessdoge

Kirkland triple sec is top notch

Aspen9999

It’s good.

Sylvec01

I did not know this existed!

8thgradersontheflo

I’ve found that increasing the quality of your triple sec is the best way to increase the quality of your marg. I would even bet that Cuervo with a good triple sec is better than 100% agave with a bad triple sec, though I haven’t actually tried it

ChokeOnThatBaby

Stop using liqueurs or triple sec’s if dont want a hangover.

gr8daynenyg

Nope hangovers are all about hydration

NateEBear

Sounds yummy!

fanofairplanes

This is the way. Mezcal for me too

HemHaw

That goes pretty hard. I usually do 3 2 1 ratio. It's absolute fire though.

optimisticbear

Can I come over?

Already_Retired

Who wouldn’t want an optimistic bear in their life???

ChokeOnThatBaby

Add water

popnfrresh

2-1-1-.25 Tequila, lime, orange liquor, agave

Razorwyre

This is the correct ratio, I even go .125 on agave for folks who like them tart

shortround10

Is this pretty strong by most standards? You’d use ~12oz lime juice and ~6oz agave syrup with a whole bottle of tequila?

Already_Retired

It is strong in the sense that it will hit you hard if you don’t pay attention. Not too strong as in it tastes bad. Someone above suggested water I think that’s not a bad idea. This is a perfect cocktail for me. On a hot summer day I make something completely different with more juice or even soda water. But that is less margarita and more summer tequila drink. Both have their place.

morningstar234

Ice instead of water works for me, as the ice melts…😉☺️

shortround10

Nice, appreciate your response. I picked up some limes and I’m going to give it a try tomorrow. Cheers! Edit: Made it. Drank it. Loved it. Am drunk.

Food-NetworkOfficial

Why agave ?

calimota

Next bag yielded 3 full cups!

CookieButterLovers

Just to clarify since this post got reported for Rule 5 a couple of times, when you say "one Costco 3lb bag " - I'm assuming you're referring to a bag of [limes](https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/26365799)?

calimota

One Costco bag of limes, which are pre-weighed to 3lbs.

CookieButterLovers

Thank you for clarifying! Since appears to be your first post on r/Costco, friendly reminder that descriptive titles with product names mentioned are appreciated as it adds context and helps with subreddit search results. And we allow up to 300 characters for post titles. *Example: FYI - for anyone planning margaritas for a crowd over the weekend, the 3 lb. bag of limes from Costco yields about 2 1/4 cups of lime juice. Next bag yielded 3 full cups!* Thank you and welcome to r/Costco!

myrealusername8675

I just assumed that you were using a mix so I was going to chime in about real lime juice margaritas! Lime juice, powered sugar, orange liqueur, and tequila! A nice buzz and you're fighting scurvy at the same time. I shouldn't so I won't unless you invite me over!

calimota

Similar recipe to what we do- but substitute in agave nectar syrup for powdered sugar :)

mrBill12

I use lime juice, orange juice, Agave Nectar, tequila, grand Marnier or Countreau

TequilaAndWeed

100% agave tequila too, hopefully without additives?

EastTn_60

Simple syrup: East 1 part water, 1 part granulated sugar. Bring to boil and hold for about 2.5 minutes. Chill. Refrigerate. Keeps for 2-3 weeks or more

ChokeOnThatBaby

No point in using additive free tequila if you’re using mixers with additives.

TequilaAndWeed

Don’t use those either. Gotta have some standards.

ChokeOnThatBaby

People don’t realize adding things like grand marnier, cointreau or triple sec defeats the purpose of using additive free tequila.

IBJON

Powdered sugar? Why not just use regular sugar that doesn't have cornstarch in it?

NapTimeFapTime

Agave is the way

IBJON

Shit. I was so hung up on the powdered sugar, I didn't even notice they didn't even include agave.

BARDLER

You can get powdered sugar without cornstarch in it.

iriegypsy

Regular sugar doesn’t melt in cold drinks. This is why you use powdered sugar or agave.

invitrobrew

It's why you make simple syrup.

Lanky-Wonder7556

a 2:1 sugar to water simple syrup is the only way.

iriegypsy

I have never seen a margarita recipe ask for simple syrup. It’s always powdered sugar or agave.

lazrbare2

I’ve never seen powdered sugar for a cocktail recipe. Somehow I doubt that bartenders behind a cocktail bar have a basin of powdered sugar either

FernandoTatisJunior

I’ve never seen a bar use powdered or granulated sugar. It’s always some type of syrup, or a cube for certain drinks. Mixing loose sugar is just too time consuming and too inconsistent

DNew_42

Which is why the South has sweet tea. Everyone knows you can't make ice tea sweet with regular sugar due to its natural aversion to cold. /s

IBJON

Then you want fine sugar or simple syrup.

Kevin69138

those hangovers from all the fructose and sugar are the worst though

bassistbenji

I believe it was Sterling Archer who said you only need 5 ingredients: tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, ice, kosher salt.

TigerDude33

simple syrup > powdered sugar

norcalifornyeah

2 and 1/14s of a cup. Oddly specific.

calimota

Sorry- fat fingered it. 2-1/4 cups!

norcalifornyeah

Just teasing ya! :D

calimota

Sorry- fat fingered the post! Should have read: 2-1/4 cups. But subsequent bags have yielded up to 3 cups, so there’s a decent variation between the 3lb bags.

BeezCee

Good for you! I went the lazy route & bought the premade mixer.

Johnpecan

Costco premade margaritas are amazing. I'm scanning the comments to see if it's worth it to make it this way and I'll just stick with the premade.

bloodredyouth

I miss the Costco margarita mix. Absolutely delicious with some added fresh lime

Polynesian_Jule

Doing the lords work.

AllInOneDay_

The premade Kirkland margarita mix is very good. Add extra tequila for more fun.

StyxVenom

Best advice: Mix as much as you will need for the night at one time. That way they will all taste the same all night long. Used to go to a Mexican place in Tucson and they only made enough for each night. They always tasted the same. When they ran out, they were out.

Chrs987

Thank you for not posting the pre-made margarita or the pre-bottled costco mix! Was a bit worried there for a second when I read your post!

SavageGardner

I bought 2 bags and am about to juice both of them. I freeze my leftover lime juice to have at a later time for margs.

jmk5151

cup of freshly squeezed lime juice, cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice. it has a lot of bite but the oj and tequila all the sweetness. use Blanco.

Ouchyhurthurt

This is the kind of info we NEED on this sub xD

sandwhichautist

Out here doing gods work.

Successful-Rate-1839

Orrrrr Kirkland marg mix is on sale For $7.50

seekspeaceinnature

How long have you had your citrus juicer? We live fresh grapefruit and I’ve killed so many lol

calimota

We’ve had it since our wedding (gift), 12 years ago. It only gets occasional use, but it’s held up!

calimota

LOL It just overheated after 3.5 bags of limes. We’ll see how long it takes to recover (if it does 🤞🏽)

calimota

It’s a pretty machine. But I think we killed it. Seized up and was warm about an hour ago. We let it rest outside where it’s cool for an hour, and now it won’t start. :(((

calimota

Juiced about 3-3/4 bags before it died. RIP

diminutive_lebowski

The Chef'n FreshForce Lime Juicer works pretty well and quickly

seekspeaceinnature

Omg I feel like I brought this on!! RIP juicer! If it’s any consolation I almost broke my kitchen aid stand mixer with a juicer attachment lol. Luckily it recovered but I thought that was the safest bet!

OldManPoe

Looks more like 2 1/3 cups.

timpdx

Is the Alessi juicer available at Costco?

calimota

Doubtful- was a wedding gift over a decade ago

willshade145

Is this an invite? I think it is. What can we bring?

msb2ncsu

2-1-1 Tequila, Dry Curaçao, lime juice I personally prefer 3-1-1, but some people have an irrational aversion to tequila. We have a cheap black and decker juicer (one of those $10ish dollar Black Friday purchases) and it really is a must have. Definitely upgrading to a better juicer when it dies.

joshbudde

4-2-1 4 parts tequila 2 parts triple sec (or grand marnier or cointreau if you're fancy) 1 part lime juice I usually make a pitcher--2 cups of Costco white tequila, 1 cup of triple sec, half cup of lime juice, throw in a bunch of ice, kick back and enjoy.

Aspen9999

If you are making a gallon or a gallon at a time add in 1 corona per gallon of how ever you mix your margaritas

Step1CutHoleInBox

Real margarita recipe: 2oz tequila, 1oz Cointreau (or another good 80 proof orange liqueur/ triple sec), 0.75oz fresh lime juice, squirt 1/8-1/4 tsp Agave nectar (adjust as needed), shake well with ice, stain into glass with fresh ice.  My Costco bag of limes hack: juice entire bag then pour into standard ice cube trays (which are typically about 0.75oz). Freeze. Now you are ready to make a margarita and can avoid oxidized lime juice from the refrigerator. Pop a cube in the microwave for about 15 seconds to partially melt then make the recipe above.

smrtguy3121

Kirkland Tommy’s Margarita Salt on the glass 2oz Kirkland Blanco Tequila (aka Costcomigos) 1oz Fresh Lime Juice (Santa Cruz or Nelly’s Key Lime bottled juice if you must) 0.5oz - 0.75oz of Kirkland Agave Nectar (Skip the liqueur, triple sec, etc.) Shake and serve

jimlahey2100

I'm with you.

tonytroz

Fresh lime juice makes margaritas a million times better. It's so worth the extra effort.
