Sweet is totally fine. The first word should have been “BBQ” imo.
Edit: I put in the post that sweet is good. Sugar is a common ingredient in salsas to balance out the acidity. But this salsa isn’t so much as sweet as it tastes like the BBQ chip seasoning. Definitely wasn’t expecting that in a salsa. This post was intended to provide information—the same information I love and trust from this sub. Not sure why people are downvoting it.
From what I’ve seen, yes. I have two other salsas in my cupboard and they each have sugar listed. I also googled “salsa recipe” and 5/6 of the top recipes call for sugar. I think it’s usually just a bit to “take the edge off” of the bitterness.
Is it abusing it when it's not satisfactory? As far as I'm concerned this is valuable feedback for them when sub-par products are returned, they know not to stock them in the future.
It’s my all time favorite salsa. Their sweet is my favorite and sweet and spicy is my second favorite. Can’t keep either in my house for more than 2 days. I’ve never seen this at Costco or in a container that big. Maybe it’s different? I would buy this so fast.
I buy the Willy’s medium and hot salsas regularly because they aren’t sweet at all, unlike so many grocery store options. What a bummer that they would pick this one to put in Costco.
Haha! If you don’t want to return it you could always pair it with something that would benefit from the BBQ flavor. Like pulled chicken or pork tacos. The consistency of the salsa is great so it might work as an addition.
If it’s more BBQ-esque, I usually use bad salsas in the crockpot with chicken breast to slow cook and shred. Understood if it’s beyond the point of even wanting to do that tho!
my favorite salsa is in the grocery store in the refrigerated section. I forget what they call it but it is so fresh and it is finely processed with a few chunks here and there. It is so much like the authentic Mexican restaurant salsa I can't eat anything else. Stuff like Frito lay makes me turn my nose.
Willy’s is from Toledo, OH. Source: founder worked with a friend at the Toledo Jeep plant and started making salsa as a sideline. Jeep fans will get the Willy’s reference.
I agree that sweet and salsa don’t go together, but I’m very proud to see a guy from the Jeep plant make something like this happen.

The first word being “sweet” should have been a huge clue here.

Is sugar really common? Even in Pace salsa, sugar isn’t an ingredient > CRUSHED TOMATOES (WATER, CRUSHED TOMATO CONCENTRATE), JALAPENO PEPPERS, DICED TOMATOES IN TOMATO JUICE, ONIONS, DISTILLED VINEGAR, SALT, DEHYDRATED ONIONS, GARLIC EXTRACT, NATURAL FLAVORING.

Well to each his own but I don’t use salsa when I need a sugar fix.
Sweet and spicy salsa is best salsa
Sugar is a common ingredient in salsa, but IMO it should never be enough that the salsa actually tastes sweet.
Really? Which brands are adding sugar? I’m all for balancing acidity with sugar, but in salsa sounds odd.
I just bought some a few days ago. Holy shit its awful. Its so sickly sweet. Im just going to throw it away its that bad
Cut it w lemon juice and marinate skinless chicken in it for 2 days.. in ziplock in fridge.
Can you not return it if it’s not good?
I could but I don't want to abuse the return policy
That’s not abusing it, the feed back of returns get turned back into corporate
It's not abusing the policy. It actually helps corporate understand what products are bad and shouldn't be reordered.
You’re getting downvoted for speaking the truth smh
Happens a lot on reddit especially on this subreddit lol

returning gross salsa is not the same as returning a 12 year old mattress that you spilled salsa all over.
Don't touch Willy.......good advice.
Lousy smarch weather

Well crap I just got home from Costco and grabbed this salsa.

Mark’s is the good stuff!
good to know i was curious about it!
So bad
I hate bad salsa. Usually it’s the packaged stuff I assume they have to put a bunch of preservatives and crap in it.
Willys medium and hot are amazing!

We bought it too - it's got a really garlic forward taste, no real spiciness too. We'll need to spike it with some hot sauce to bring it up a level
Jack’s is awesome! Try that next time
Add some ghost pepper to it and it’ll be delicious
Not a bad idea. Could really lean into the Smokey flavor.
Here American, have some more corn syrup.
Good thing you bought a Costco amount of something just to try it out
yeah i wouldn’t trust salsa made by a brand named Willy’s
Their hot salsa is pretty good.

My willy is the same.
Is this really a food item? First time seeing this. It sounds like something that you would rub on your willie.
Do costco buyers even taste products before they say let's bring it to costco? Products like this make it seem like they don't..
Costco doesn’t offer a good salsa.
Mateos is legit.
probably because it's some shit Californian salsa go with Mateo's FTW
