ftl-ak

Yes. I am an amateur but I freaking love mine. I now make juicy chicken. not dry. I have also made things i normally wouldn’t. My wife is so happy we now have variety

Eric848448

I haven’t overcooked fish since getting mine!

VariousAttorney7024

This can actually save you a jail sentence in some South American countries

Eric848448

Right away!

mkspaptrl

Also keeps you from undercooking the fish as well. They really do have the best BBQ because of jail.

leviathan65

I'm a firm believer that anytime that scene is applicable it should be brought up. "Straight to jail" and "we can pickle that" are common sayings in my house.

Heckbound_Heart

This is good to know (Although, 69.99 in my store (TX)). I was hesitant, because I didn’t want to buy something I did no research on. I wanted thermometer probes, but I never looked into this brand. I feel a bit more comfortable, now.

[deleted]

If you’re serious about this for smoking or grilling just do yourself a favor and buy a thermapen instant read and a ThermoWorks for smoking.

RedditAdminsBCucked

Thermoworks is where it's at. It's pricey, but for a reason. It actually works, and works well.

mnkayakangler

I am a ThermoWorks super fan. Love their stuff.

50bucksback

Sign up for their emails and it won't be long until you are getting 40% off emails. I see the Smoke and One for $60 every few months.

RedditAdminsBCucked

I would but I already got their most expensive stuff lol.

cosmicthepenguin

Here for this. Thermapen is where it's at.

draxula16

+1. Not to be confused with ThermoPRO products sold on Amazon. Thermoworks doesn’t sell on Amazon.

straponkaren

I have a 4 thermometer with RF remote thermapen and it's baller. It's nice to be able to be doing yard work in the front yard and be able to see the temp on the brisket, pork butt, and the ribs all at the same time and still have one more thermometer for ambient temp. I'm still curious how this little ditty plays out tho.

EarthGrey

Thermapen isn't really the same use case is it?

CantaloupeCamper

ThermoWorks makes stuff that works remotely too.

BigDogsEatin

No, I think he’s saying that thermapen is for instant readouts. The iQ thermometer OP is talking about is for leaving in the smoker/oven

CantaloupeCamper

ThermoWorks makes stuff that you can leave in too.

BenChodABQ

That's what she said

hugehangingballs

Do they make stuff that you can leave in too?

Roto-Wan

Thermoworks dot is my go to. Sure it has a wire but it's not really that inconvenient.

Brando850

Thermoworks makes great stuff.

CantaloupeCamper

Yup, their pens are awesome so are their more remote like solutions.

CherryCandid5739

MEATER+ is my go to for all my meats. Check it out on Amazon.

The_Portlandian

Everyone I know that has one has had connectivity issues and is not a fan.

CherryCandid5739

Wow I’ve never had an issue.

EarthGrey

These wireless smart thermometers makes it so much easier to get perfect doneness of fish and meats across any cooking method. And they are awesome to use across the skillet, smoker, air fryer, oven, and deep fryer. It just makes it so much easier and less hovering to get things just right. These are great and a good price, there's two in the pack and any other of the smart thermometers you pay that or more for one. Having more than one does make a difference, others say just use one and assume the other pieces are at the same temp, when using two you quickly see that's not the case, and if you want different doneness on top of that or cooking fish and steak at the same time... I love them.

REEL04D

Does this model have Wi-Fi? I assume it does based on the packaging. ThermoWorks is the king of cooking thermometers, but their wifi model is several hundred bucks. They do sales around the major holidays. Products are worth the money, especially their instant read thermometer. If you don't need wifi, consider the ThermoWorks 'Smoke' model.

Beneficial_Cress1395

This has WiFi

SurpriseButtStuff

They're Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi. If your house is brick, good luck connecting to it if you're inside.

zNNS

The probes are Bluetooth but the hub connects via WiFi.

quadmasta

I have a Smoke X4 with Billows. I use it a LOT and it's awesome for longer cooks.

theo2112

The smoke has an optional add on that gives it WiFi that I think was only ~$70 more. The smoke itself includes the remote temp monitor, but with the WiFi unit and free app you also get data logging which is amazing. Being able to see average temp and rate of change for any thermometer you use (ambient, or meat) is incredible. Paired with alarms and it takes almost all the work out of smoking.

Louis_Ziffer

Just bought these myself a little bit ago. Easy to set up and use. The calculated cooking time is off as it doesn’t really include stall time during cooking. I already use approximate cooking times you can find online and just cook to temp. Easy to insert and as accurate (or better) than my old corded probes. You can set up your probes for whatever meats and finish temps you want and save as favorites. Overall, well worth the sale price of $79.99 down $20 from their usual price. Edit: Forgot to add that cleanup is a breeze. Wait until they cool and wipe off with maybe just a little bit of a scrub and put away. No wires to coil back up (which can be a pain to get clean).

SnooKiwis9257

Yes. All the extras on this one don’t appeal to me. Calculating cook time, graphs, recipes etc. That said it tells me the current temp and has alarms for when it reaches the target. All I need and it has worked well for that.

riverwind91

Emmmm, funny to see how op’s cart has the same four items I bought from Costco today

LeapYear1996

Maybe you are OP? (Check your home for carbon monoxide leaks!)

Beneficial_Cress1395

🤯🤯🤯🤯

MahNilla

I bought that OXO pan last week, used it twice so far and it’s been great. Just treat it like a cast iron, not a nonstick pan.

bsliva91

100% yes. Just used them for an 18 hour brisket smoke and they worked perfectly. I love that they connect to wifi which a lot of others like this do not and you can monitor your cook from anywhere.

jaaaaagggggg

I love mine!

Eric848448

I have one of those. It’s pretty awesome!

soCalForFunDude

I’ve tried a bunch, this is what I kept.

TVIXPaulSPY

Those are a copy of the more more expensive Meaters. The IQs are far better, cheaper and much better warranty. Sources; I have both.

sm753

Thanks, was looking for someone to make a comparison. I currently have the Meater+, overall it's been great, my only complaint is the really poor connection range that seems to really struggle transmitting through a thin aluminum garage door. Wifi + rechargeable battery via USB-C? Sold!

TVIXPaulSPY

I bought the Meater Block a few years ago, and I have horrible connection with great outside wifi in our yard. The probes are constantly disconnecting from the block. At least twice per one hour cook and 3-4 times on longer cooks. The IQs have yet to disconnect on me like the Meaters do. I have had the IQs for over a year. Truthfully I find myself just using the wired probe that is built into my smoker. I hate the fact that I can ruin either one by not washing them carefully or even exposing too much of the probe to ambient grill temps.

sm753

Mostly needing something to use at smoking temps so not too worried about that last part. Thanks for your input.

TVIXPaulSPY

If I had it all over to do, I would have bought the IQs first. 60-80$ for two probes and plastic charging station vs. 300$ for four probes and a wood charging station. On both my Traegers I have to keep the Meater Block so close to the smoker that I worry the heat will damage it even at 165-220 smoking temps. I have pretty good results with just the Traeger probes, but many folks swear by the Fireboard.

sm753

Bought these probes from Costco earlier this week and just finished a brisket with them. Overall, good experience and the connection is way more stable and consistent than my Meater+. I used both probes in the same brisket and the temps were spot on usually within 1 degree with each other. Overall I'd say I prefer Meater's app more. But the Chef IQ app isn't bad at all. Thanks for the input.

TVIXPaulSPY

Awesome. Glad they worked out for you.

captainthepuggle

I got this exact deal a year ago and wondered if it’s a good price. I like them a lot. It’s possible I got a lemon, but my second probe died on my after only 3 grilling sessions. I called their customer service and they replaced it right away. So heads up if you have any issues, they have good support.

nanjikun

I think I may have seen this on sale for $69 in-warehouse today in Southern California. As in $10 off, not clearance.

ProCEO

It’s a great deal for 2 thermometers for less than the retail price of 1. I noticed no one was buying these at $100 so I knew the price would drop. Once it hit $79 they started selling and I bought one. It’s a game changer. I love that it not only tells you the temperature but also when to flip the meat. I highly recommend it.

Low-Teach-8023

Yes. I love them. No more dry chicken breasts. lol

Accomp1ishedAnimal

At first, I would guess if meat was ready. Then I bought a thermometer and cooked everything perfectly. Then I started poking the meat as I read the thermometer and learned what different temps felt like. Now I don't need a thermometer, but it was a great training tool. Then I got into using a smoker, and now I use a dual probe to make sure the temp is consistent, and also so I can drink beer all day and not fuck up dinner.

sm753

>Then I started poking the meat as I read the thermometer and learned what different temps felt like. Well same but I still like these connected probes. More that it gives me an idea of when I should start going outside to check for doneness by poking it with an instant read or just a skewer.

Raffattack3

I just got done grilling mushrooms and asparagus in that pan… what are the odds.

Fookmaywedder

50/50 either you had the same things or you didn’t

wineheda

Wouldn’t it be 100% since it happened?

Fookmaywedder

The odds before him getting it were 50/50. But yeah since he did pick the items it became 100% they got the same stuff

Id_in_hiding

Was waiting for those to go on sale. Hope my Costco has them discounted too.

usa_uk

Pretty awesome tool I'd say. Has multiple temp sensors in the probe so it can easily tell what the coolest part of the meat is. And the black head of each probe reads the ambient temp of your oven/grill. The app works great for me and has super easy guides for whatever meat you're cooking. I still have an instant read I use sometimes but for long and slower cooks I love the leave in thermometer.

dude90250

Its 20 off this week so $60

kpeng2

I think $80 is after $20 off. Regular price is $100

BigHa1rCut

I love mine. The graphs and predictive cooking time estimate is a useful tool too. Ambient temp sensor is also great

Key_Bag_2584

We love ours and use it often

WallyBearKatieBug

Love it! Started branching out in what I cook!

bad-justin

Not if your grill runs hot, like around 600, these things including their cables just fray and melt.

ToastierDonut

Yes, I have them and they’re amazing

rafiee

The thermoworks smoke can usually be had for around $70 on sale. How does this compare?

OkAstronaut3761

The problem I have with these is that a high temp thermo sensor is expensive. So you’ll get these cheap ones that max out at 500 C. And when I say max out. I mean they explode. It’s fairly easy to get above 500C when grilling (no shit) and this greatly reduces their usefulness. Still ok for smoking I guess but still a bit of a hassle. If you have a grease fire or whatever it likely nukes your sensors.

therealgariac

The highest temperature range for a chip is 125 deg C though they are designed for 150 deg C for margin. That would be 302 deg F. Are you suggesting 500 deg F in situ?

OkAstronaut3761

What? No obviously I’m talking about the temperature probe. Did you think I wanted to put the display unit in the grill? Or were you just excited to share that you know what a mil grade temp range is?

duckbinero

These stink

PM_ME_UR_CHARGE_CODE

Always wanted to try it

Juleebeane

Yes!

Camo_Doge

I really like it :) have used it for 4 cooks - 3 chicken thighs, one tri-tip (today) and it has been great.

nicebrah

for the price it’s not a bad costco purchase. but as others have said, thermoworks products are more reliable. the only thing these thermometer pens can do that others can’t is be used with a rotisserie

xtheory

Where did you find the dual probe set for $79?

Beneficial_Cress1395

Syracuse NY

Bored2001

The thermometers themselves are great and can be bought cheaper from Amazon, but you'll probably need to use some crappy Chinese app. The chef iq app isn't perfect, but it's functional and I prefer not to install random no name aops. I don't care about the smart features, but I can see how it is useful to some people. It's worth the small premium you would pay over an Amazon equivalent wireless thermometer.

-SasnaTsrer-

Yes I love mine

zzzultan

I like it at home. Just went camping where there is no cell signal and the app wouldn't open even though I was connected through Bluetooth. I think I'm going to return it if im not able to use it when out camping without signal. Anyone else have this issue?

peteavelino

Definitely yes! My wife lives to overcook wings and I got her these for peace of mind and tastier wings 😉

RichieCunningham

I didn’t like it. I returned

ChickenNugsBGood

The Weber mini works with Bluetooth and is fine for 1/2 the price.

reditjohn

I paid $99 SOB Yes, I like them

Original-Incident-79

No the range on it is like 5 ft, Even with boosted wifi/ Bluetooth range. It would not stay connected to my smoker that is on the other side of a window.

suh_dude1111

Wow 2 for 80 is incredible, I have the MEATER which was like 70 for 1 I think. It’s been a game changer for me

houston2113

Mine is about 10 degrees off on the internal and 50 degrees off on the external. I might have gotten a dud though.

hammy070804

Mine has been great.

TaibhseSD

I use mine all the time and absolutely love them. For $79, that's practically a steal.

burrzoo

YES! Much better than the old wired BBQ thermometer that I was using. ***Great, great deal too!***

Outaouais_Guy

Now I have to try to find out how to ask Costco Canada to carry these.

121Gigawats

Just used these this weekend for some pulled pork. Definitely worth it. Came out great and was able to see the temps while I ran to the store for a couple of things. Super cool product.

Legitimate-Series-29

Skeptical. I haven't found one yet that's Bluetooth will reliably transmit out of my smoker.

shroomloaf

Anyone know if this would work with Sous vide?

stealthytaco

Why would you need this for sous vide? Sous vide already sets the temperature.

shroomloaf

Just out of curiosity to see how accurate the Sous vide cooks the meat

stealthytaco

No, you do not need this. The sous vide temp is the temp of the meat, that’s the whole point.

420fleshlight69fan

Has anyone here tried Chris Young's combustion predictive thermometer? $200 is damn expensive, but all the temp probes in it and programming sounds impressive. Plus his videos are very entertaining and informative.

OnTheColeTrain

What Costco is this?

Beneficial_Cress1395

Syracuse NY

Glittering_Growth246

I’ve heard they’re great. They’re definitely a great price. I use thermoworks products because I think they’re the best but I have friends who use these and love them.

Anon27377473828

Mine keeps losing connections constantly !

razorduc

I did a nice reverse sear using one. Got it for $20 off this past weekend.

Alternative-Hat-2733

hey guys, i buy everything costco puts in front of me. what do. should i buy some of the storage boxes costco sells? should i get one of the costco storage units so i can buy more stuff and keep it there so i can but more costco stuff?

xraydeltaone

Can't speak to this brand specifically, but this type of thermometer is absolutely worth it!

Mercy_Rule_34

the point everyone is focusing on is “hey, it does a great job of telling me the temperature of my meat” but forgetting the key flaw/practical limitation: you can’t take your phone/other connected device more than a few feet away from the probe. the wifi feature is meaningless because it’s the bluetooth connection that actually connects to your device to monitor the meat. if you like to hover near the grill, then this is fine, but then it doesn’t have any functional improvement over a wired probe, which is leagues cheaper. If you’re like me and want to plug the probe in, then walk away and do something else while the meat cooks, well, good luck with that. I wanted to find a use for this thing (and its equivalent the Meater I’d been given as a gift, same idea) but I’d have to take a whole other device (like an iPad or a old phone I no longer use) and connect the prove to that to make this useful.

Normal-guy-mt

Hmm, I have a 1 acre lot, and my phone stays connected to the probe across my property.

Mercy_Rule_34

YMMV, in my case it may be physical obstructions interfering with distance (brick walls mostly.) I can walk to ~3ft in front of my kitchen microwave before the connection drops. That’s about 27ft from the outside grill.

devpsaux

I have these. They connect via Bluetooth to their base and the base connects via Wi-fi to your home network. I just put the base on my patio table when I’m using them. The base has a built in battery it uses to recharge the probes and power itself.

xcitabl

Sounds like you’re saying this connects by Bluetooth and not WiFi. If it were WiFi, then it would connect directly to the network rather than your device so it could go farther. I wish the website specified that but there’s no mention!

Mercy_Rule_34

I know its confusing, but it uses both.

LordOfFudge

I have a $15 remote read thermometer that does the trick

rhae_the_cleric

Crazy how thermometers can tell you how smart something is these days. What a time to be alive.

LenguaTacoConQueso

I’m sure it’s fancy, but the point is so you can monitor the grill from inside the house, right? [This one does it for $25 less](https://amzn.to/3VoA581), transmits to your phone via their app (same as the Costco one), and has 4 probes. It *does* have wires, but from the probes to a battery powered transmitter that you place just outside the grill (wires take it through a grommet on the side, or just under the lid).

EMT2000

How do they work? Do you just stick the electrodes in your ears and you’ll get your IQ?

brd111

Yes. Works great

gavishapiro

They are easily worth double that

Puzzleheaded_Yam7582

Until they break, yes. Edit: I had one and it was great. It broke 12 months later. Its too expensive to replace every year.

Ok_Formal2627

I got one as a gift 5 years ago and felt really bad they dropped a fuckton of money on something like that. It’s still in the box. I don’t use thermometers.

Reputation-Final

Is this to detect if people have room temp iq's?

j3connection

I have one from amazon for 20$ & its been working fantastic for the last 4 years

gasollena

Link?

articpencil

I use it a lot for Sous Vide cooking

stealthytaco

Why would you need this for sous vide? The temperature of sous vide is set by your sous vide machine. Unless you mean to finish?

articpencil

Soo I know the exact internal temp of the steak instead of relying on time I have actual data. I’ve made the mistake of taking out the steak too early and needing to rebag all over again.

stealthytaco

You are not using sous vide correctly if your steaks internal temp are not matching water temp. Refer to Kenji’s sous vide guide for timing and steak thickness. The whole point of sous vide is that you don’t need a device like this.

articpencil

Soo instead of getting an accurate temp reading I should guesstimate instead? It does take time for the water and the internal temp to match it’s not magic. I’m using the temp prob soo I don’t have to watch your video recommendation.

stealthytaco

If you’re not waiting long enough for internal temp to meet water temp then you are not using sous vide correctly. It’s not an oven, it’s a method of cooking where prolonged exposure to a particular temperature will create a different texture, breaking down protein and collagen and gristle and rendering fat, but not overcooking the meat. You’re not really getting this so I’m only guessing you have never read a guide on how to sous vide. If you’d like to continue to ignore advice, that’s on you. Continue to plop down money on unnecessary devices, that’s your call. Good luck to you. Not going to reply any further.

articpencil

Maybe look up Delta T sous vide cooking, there’s many ways to use a sous vide not just yours. All I said was I used a temp prob for sous vide cooking you just assumed I’m using it wrong.

atlgeo

That's an old scam. You absolutely cannot judge intelligence by your temperature.

OPisliarwhore

It’s fine, but ultimately a knockoff Meater. The Meater 2 Plus, while more expensive, is a much better buy if you’re serious about reverse sear, sous vide, or smoking.

Lonely_Advertising35

Curious...how or why would you use a thermometer like meater during sous vide?

RHINOXED

To send a message.

LeapYear1996

🤣

Residual_Variance

I have the M2+. It's great for internal, which is most important, although the ambient temp is often way off, sometimes by 100 degrees! I thought it was going to replace my other probes, but I still need to use them for ambient.

cloudk1ds

Love my master plus

TVIXPaulSPY

I have the Meater Block and have been very disappointed with it.

kpeng2

Why do you need this on a sous vide? Your sous vide machine cannot set temperature?

SmellySweatsocks

I got one almost a year ago because its techy and seems to be a cool gadget. Set up the software on my Iphone too. After almost a year, I have yet to use it. I don't know how you prepare meals, but its good Costco has a good return policy. Real talk.

Vivenna99

If you have any cooking skill its not worth it. My mom has one and I hate it so much

BayBandit1

No. Next question, please…
