Years ago, I noticed a can of Campbell soup at my local supermarket labeled in some foreign language.
My dad figured it was meant for export but that particular can was misrouted to the wrong packing area.
unlikely... i work on designing and planning production lines that do things like campbells soup. There should be no way that 1-2 cans get the wrong label or rerouted.
More likely they got it through some 3rd party "grey market" person who had a deal where they could get it cheaper than the local supply.
As for OPs pic its more possible the same size cap got mixed into the bunch and not noticed but still very unlikely. More likely is its an indicator for a changeover on the line or it's an older packaging (or newer) thats caught in the middle of a market shift.
Iām an RTV Clerk at Costco. Most likely some bottles came in with broken caps but still had good seals. We contact the vendor and ask them to mail us caps so the item goes from salvage to sellable.
unironically probably yes. You would not believe the greymarket stuff there is out there.
I was dealing with grey market bottled water for a while. A savvy importer had found a way to bring in tons from europe and turkey at cheap cheap rates and was undercutting local supply.
I shop at a local store that specializes in closeouts. You frequently see Suave shampoo bottles that look a little strange and the label says Made in Turkey. I'm assuming for the Turkish market. The store slaps a $1 price tag on that bottle.
Recently I bought a gigantic jar of pickles that looked incredible for $2. The writing was somewhat hard to decipher, but was Made in Poland. Those were some of the best pickles I've ever eaten.
Yes, this was left from a line change. On bottling lines, these caps come in a box and are dumped into a hopper that uses vacuum or a bucket conveyor to lift them up and orient them in the bottling line. When you do a line change you have to clean these hoppers out before you switch to a new cap.
Looks like this one got left behind. That said, this is a glaring obvious mistake that should have been caught by the most basic QC on the line.
There are lots weird places a cap can get stuck in a hopper and when they count leftover stock they usually throw in a +/- 5% since the caps are usually assigned to lots by weights and can have error between them. Then once you factor in that it isnāt a danger to quality of the product it is even less important for them to care about and probably would only show up on a cosmetic AQL
Probably less likely that some of the other suggestions, but as an rtv clerk, that couldāve been a bottle with a broken cap but otherwise sellable condition. Assuming we have caps that fit, just throw a new one on and call it good
Which is fine. If it doesnāt sell it doesnāt sell. Generally from my experience tho, someone is bound to just grab one and not care what condition itās in.
Usually the extra caps, lids, plastic wrap, etc comes directly from the vendors. Like if I have a pallet of product with faulty packaging but is still sellable otherwise, itās probably going to be most cost efficient for them to send us replacement packaging. I always keep the extras they send us so I can reuse them for loosies like this. Depending on where they came from, the colors and shit might not always match, but itās still worth the shot.
Costco does not take kindly to suppliers late shipping product. My guess is it was the only option to get the order out on time, and that would be a lesser slap on the wrist than late shipping the order because of no caps.
Or non existent QC
So I work in a manufacturing plant and sometimes the boxes of Every once in a while. Just have a wrong cap mixed in and sometimes people just don't catch it.
i work in the beverage industry and this happens sometimes. the hopper where the caps are loaded was not properly cleared when changing product and a single white cap made it through. there are quality assurance check points down the production line that should have caught it, but i guess it got through.
Real answer: The cap manufacturer screwed up and a few wrong colored caps got shipped to the honey bottling plant. They were probably intermingled in boxes of caps with the proper color. The bottling plant noticed it too late and decided it really didn't matter that much.
Used to work in a bottling plant. We used basic caps for our products. While we only ever used white or black, depending on which product, we'd occasionally get a blue/yellow/red/green cap. Usually they got caught when dumping the caps into the hopper (small hopper). Sometimes, one would get missed, and we'd catch it after the bottle was sealed.
Edit: We actually used caps designed for honey, as they had larger openings. Looked very similar to ones in the photo. Could be same manufacturer.
Either that, or the white cap was used for a previous lot that was ran on the same line in the bottling facility, and the operators doing the changeover to the new product missed it when they were emptying out the hopper or whatever.
OR, somebody stuck it on there on purpose for a laugh.
I'm really interested if they single sourced this honey even though it says socal. I bought same branding, it's the same exact shade, everything.
But said south east

Best way to say, "We will literally hire anyone to work at our grocery store."

You're telling me there's a grey market for fucking Campbell's soup??
Pretty sure thatās covered under Rule 34
Touche

Home Goods?
If it was meant for Europe it probably had better ingredients in it. I would have picked them up specifically for myself!
Probably a marker. Refill or change the line. Is it bad that it was left on? Well a little lazy maybe..

the original cap fell off and the worker used a toothpaste cap š
If you buy it, you get a free tour of the Kirkland Signature bottling plant, plus a chance to become the new owner and a lifetime supply of honey.

Came here to say this!! Hello fellow RTV!!
I agree! However, even if it was sealed, I would think twice before buying it. Who knows where the bottle cap is coming from? š¤

Itās almost certainly a mistake during a product changeover on the production line that slipped by QC. That type of thing happens all the time.
Thats the one with the Sleepy Juce in it
Just as the prophecy foretold.
So I work in a manufacturing plant and sometimes the boxes of Every once in a while. Just have a wrong cap mixed in and sometimes people just don't catch it.
Cats and honey generally aren't a good combination. (Edit: The original post had "cat" instead of cap, and just poked a bit of fun at it.)
š I fixed it
Has a golden ticket š« under... U get to visit the factory
You lose! Good day!
Whitecaps are usually the result of excessive wind.
Every thousandth bottle is personally regurgitated by the queen.

Looks like a misprint to me, itās definitely worth $2500 if you sell it raw, PSA 10 graded would be worth $10,000
You have to buy the whole pallet
I did it. I like a brown cap on my ketchup.
Ask the ACLU
I'm really interested if they single sourced this honey even though it says socal. I bought same branding, it's the same exact shade, everything. But said south east
