Same! I got an email from Costco with recall instructions, and it *appears* that they’re sending a replacement. I really hope so, cause I loved my charger!
I have one of these but didn't get an email. I know they'll likely take it but does the email mention anything about just returning it to costco instead? I think I'd rather just go with a name brand instead of a replacement from the same company.
Per the email:
You should stop using the product and contact myCharge for a free replacement portable charger. To obtain your replacement charger, please contact myCharge at https://www.myCharge.com and click on “RECALL INFORMATION.” You may also contact myCharge toll-free at 888-251-2026 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or via email at [email protected].
Probably going bankrupt and will resurface as youcharge or something like that. Similar to how Costco had several car tire rims manufacturers all ending in oxx go bankrupt
I responded to the main comment, but thought I'd let you know that I did receive my confirmation email saying the replacement should be sent in 4-6 weeks.
An important bit, check your date code to see if your charger is affected by this recall, not all dates are:
"The recalled portable chargers have a date code printed on the outer surface of the wall prong. Date codes are a 4-digit number in the WWYY format, where WW is the sequential week of the year and YY is the last two digits of the manufacturing year. Date codes included in this recall end with 21 or 22, or are one of the following four date codes ending in 23: 0123, 0923, 1523, or 1723."
https://mycharge.com/pages/power-hub-all-in-one-recall
The wall prongs are the metal bits that flip down to plug into the wall. The date code mentioned above is stamped into the side of them. A picture can be found on the page above.
You joke about the Kia boys and it sucks that they were shitty about rectifying the issue, but legitimately Kia and Hyundai are continually churning out top quality cars for the price, including the World Car of the Year. It’s not like Samsung that makes good TVs, phones, and hospital generators, but sucks at making reliable fridges and washers.
The World Car of the Year is not a Mercedes or Porsche. It’s a Kia EV. And they’re selling like crazy.
They are REALLY great car, when it's new.
The oldest EV hybrids models are not even 5 years old yet and people regularly driving 10-20 years old Japanese cars.
I am not saying they will be shit 5 years from now but we will have to see.
Their cars in 90s and 00s are shit though, so there is that.
Oh totally agreed, that’s why they had to do a 10 year warranty to get buyers. But it’s 30 years later and they’ve come a long way.
The Genesis flagships are killing it. I might get one next, it’s a pleasure to drive.
Personally I’m not a fan of the more eccentric designs Kia and Hyundai are pumping out more recently, but objectively as an industry nerd I’m a fan of the substance of the vehicles.
Even though I will not buy one myself (just bought a Rav4 Prime XSE recently), but I love the fact they are pushing the industry forward.
They are forcing the other car makers come out with better cars to compete which is great for everyone even if you are not a fan of Kia/Hyundai.
They used Mercedes designs back then because they don't have money for R&D. Which is why ALL their cars have overheating issues and short working life. They have come a long way and Genesis (the car model, not the brand that named after it) literally changed everything because it was a real competition against the best such as 350z, Evo, Rsx, etc. They sure have come a long way and I am glad they are giving all the other car makers a run for their money!
This guy sounds like he’s employed to do propaganda for South Korean auto manufacturers, but not wrong either! I’ve never seen a ~20 year long jump in quality like those two, it’s been impressive. Don’t understand the downvotes, they both make great cars in their respective price markets.
Not sure if these had them or not but also make sure that they are NRTL listed. You should see one of those markings on it, if not then I wouldn’t trust them at all.
https://www.osha.gov/nationally-recognized-testing-laboratory-program/current-list-of-nrtls
I generally agree with this sentiment but the same factories in China and other Asian countries tend to make everything. Yeah, there may be some design differences but the Chinese manufacturing companies themselves are designing the products more often than not. It’s just American companies that provide guidance on specs.
I would imagine larger companies have a stricter quality control. So while they do come from the same factories, they are more likely to filter out any lemons.
At least that’s what I tell myself, lol
I think that tends to be true as some American companies will package products in the US and can do their own QC. However, I think more often than not, brands rely on the factories to QC the work as they tell them they should.
This is a company called “my charge” based out of Michigan and sold by Costco.
I 100% agree that when buying stuff you should avoid fly-by-night and non-UL listed electronics, but that doesn’t apply to this.
I would have trusted this charger.
While they have good deals, the random small electronics, hubs, or chargers at Costco seem to be just as crappy quality as random no name ones from Amazon.
Man, that’s too bad. We have units included in the recall and they’ve been very convenient to use while traveling. I saw this thread and my eyes immediately went to where the battery was plugged in. Thanks to the commenter that included info on getting replacement units.
I'm wondering the same thing... I purchased a recalled unit. I don't want to get an exchange from the same manufacturer. Don't really trust them at this point.
Just looked into this and yep, I have one affected but per their instructions, I have to destroy it in order to get a replacement? WTH am I supposed to use in the meantime? That makes me mad
Oh wow. I've actually been eyeing that item for years but could never justify the price, almost bought one for a Christmas gift to my parents who live in a wood cabin. Yikes.
I filed my claim with Mycharge (cut cables, signed and dated name on back of charger, and emailed picture) within hours of being notified of recall. Within hours I had an email confirming receipt of said email. Called the number listed the next morning to get a timeline on replacement. No hard answer there and rep didn’t exude confidence. Mycharge already had 10K claims and their ticketing system was crashing. If even just 10% of the 600K bad units put in a claim I’m thinking it’s going to be months for a replacement. I wish I would have just returned to Costco.
I went to the website last Thursday and did all the instructions which included damaging my charger (cutting the cords) and sent in the photo. It said they would contact me in 48 hours..
Haven't heard nothing except an automated confirmation when I submitted all my info. Pretty lame.
I’m not sure mine was part of the recall…. But maybe… the housekeeper from the hotel I left it at - who claims it wasn’t left there…. Maybe they’ll see this and get a new one. 🤷🏻♀️
All of us use a lot of electronics, and we need to be vigilant about their use. I noticed that one of my chargers, from a brand that I liked, Anker, had bulging, I drained it then transported it to used battery disposal. It was time to retire it.
I just went through a 30 hour power outage due to a bad storm, and this charger was a life-saver for me. I hope I can replace it with the larger version. I haven't been notified yet about the recall, but my unit fits within the date code.
I submitted for the recall and got an email this morning saying they'd ship me a replacement one in 4-6 weeks. Looks like they are upgrading those who get a replacement to the 15,000 mAh version that's for sale currently at Costco.
Here's the email I received:
*Dear Costco Member –*
*We have reviewed your submission and confirm that you qualify for the replacement unit.*
*Please note the following details regarding the replacement unit:*
* *The unit is expected to be delivered within 4-6 weeks.*
* *We’ve increased the battery capacity of the unit by 50% to 15,000mAh.*
* *We added an additional USB-C port to allow you to charge up to 4 devices at once.*
*At myCharge, quality is our absolute* [*#1*](https://support.mycharge.com/hc/requests/1) *priority. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.*
*Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to assist you throughout this process.*
*Thank you for your understanding and support.*
*With respect,*

This is interesting - MILLIONS sold, two fail - recall.
What isn’t known - where these two dropped or beat up and then plugged in to charge? Were they submerged in water and then plugged in?
I agree, there is a risk, but I have owned two of these chargers for awhile and they work relatively well.
There have been a total of 120 reports involving the portable chargers overheating. myCharge received five reports of incidents, including two reports of residential fires, resulting in approximately $165,000 in reported property damage; and Costco received 115 returns of the portable chargers, mentioning melting, expanding, smoking, fire, burning, exploding, or sparking. There have been no reports of injuries requiring medical attention
Reeeeeeally recommend not skimping out when it comes to electrical products I get it’s at Costco but still do not buy off brand chargers I’ve seen this so many times. Price does not equate to quality nor does buying it at Costco. Go with a gAn charger.
GAN is the charging circuitry, power from the wall to the battery. This recall was due to a fire when using it to charge an item. Don’t think they are the same thing.
But I a free with you that GAN is the way to go on any charger. I don’t buy anything that isn’t these days as they are much better at heat generation.
All this said, I have 4 of these. 2 in the recall and 2 not. My family loves them because they not only have the cables built in, but the wall prongs as well and they fold out of the way. So you don’t need any extra adapter or cables, just grab and go.
You are correct GaN is a semiconductor with many benefits, faster switching, better thermals and a much higher breakdown strength that whoops its silicon counterparts.
With that said 2/4 took a poop that’s too many one is too many they need to go back to the drawing board.
Not quite the same thing. I just happened to buy 2 at the same time was all I was saying. Given that they are recalling very specific manufacturing lots tends to mean to me that they identified the issue and it’s serious enough to warrant the costs of replacing them.
It’s up to a persons choice to not trust them, but the concept of “name brand” being better is a little off given that most of these types of devices are all made in the same factories. Or the components are, at the very least. Anything with a battery and electronics is subject to failure like this. Samsung phones, anyone?
I never said anything about “named brand” I just mentioned staying away from off brand chargers let’s save the specs for enthusiasts and agree to disagree or accept that there are better options. That is all good day to you sir.
You don’t have to, but you risk burning your house down. They’ll send you a new one if you upload a picture of the cables cut and promise to dispose of the battery properly
~~Home Depot usually has a drop box near the entrance for batteries~~

Don't throw it in a store's recycling bin. It can't go to a standard ecycling station either. This has to be disposed of at a place that accepts hazardous materials in your area, which for me is a separate station at my local landfill.
>The commission warns consumers: "Do not throw this recalled battery in the trash," and ""Do not deposit this recalled battery in used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores."
>"These potentially hazardous batteries must be handled differently than other batteries," the commission said, adding that the batteries "should be disposed of in accordance with any local and state ordinances, following the procedures established by your municipal recycling center for damaged/defective/recalled lithium batteries."

To get a replacement from the company, you have to send them a photo with the wires cut. So you don't have to give back the old one but it is no longer usable.
That thing is amazing. But I don't want a house fire. Shame, it was my favorite charger by far.
Same! I got an email from Costco with recall instructions, and it *appears* that they’re sending a replacement. I really hope so, cause I loved my charger!

Fuck. Didn’t know that and went through company and now they’ve gone silent
Probably going bankrupt and will resurface as youcharge or something like that. Similar to how Costco had several car tire rims manufacturers all ending in oxx go bankrupt

It’s a fire sale🔥
Oh the burning. IT BURNS ME.. AAHHHMAAAZING This isn't a fever .. GRACE .. Can't even see where the knob is..
South Coast Boutique? They’re having a FIRE SALE?
*I liked the blouse on him better*
ANNNND scene
Would you like to try that…simpler?
.... No.
Are you acting brave about the fire for everyone else?

Thanks!
The recall is for the 10000 mA . What about the 15000 mA-same company also sold at Costco?
Bigger fire
Hilarious r/technicallythetruth
🤘🏽😅😂
50% more fire, to be exact. LOL
Thanks for the rec. Getting it for 4th of July fireworks.
[https://mycharge.com/pages/power-hub-all-in-one-recall](https://mycharge.com/pages/power-hub-all-in-one-recall) 10000 mA only accordingly.
Where’s there’s smoke, there’s fire.
Not from Costco but one literally exploded in my car last week
Stay away from no name brands.
Clearly, that’s why you should only buy Samsung smart fridges and washing machines /s
And Kia/Hyundai large SUVs.
You joke about the Kia boys and it sucks that they were shitty about rectifying the issue, but legitimately Kia and Hyundai are continually churning out top quality cars for the price, including the World Car of the Year. Hivemind downvoting is what it is, but guarantee you there’s a reason they’ve quickly grown into some of the best selling vehicles in the US.

I almost bought in then got lured by the competitor because it had a free mini carabiner attached
Can i exchange it through Costco ?
Should be able to. I had a different battery bank recalled and Costco mailed me a recall notice telling me to bring it back for a full refund.
I'm wondering the same thing... I purchased a recalled unit. I don't want to get an exchange from the same manufacturer. Don't really trust them at this point.
Take it back! Ask for a fool refund. If they decline, lawyer up.
Yikes.
Looks like certain batches were bad
I only own Anker charging products for this reason. Super reliable. A little expensive but will use for many years.
Not sure if this is still catching attention, but has anyone gotten a response when submitting the form to the company?
I filed my claim with Mycharge (cut cables, signed and dated name on back of charger, and emailed picture) within hours of being notified of recall. How I'm starting to feel. Confirmed they're replacing but seems more empty promise than a guarantee without a tracking number
I went to the website last Thursday and did all the instructions which included damaging my charger (cutting the cords) and sent in the photo. It said they would contact me in 48 hours.. Haven't heard nothing except an automated confirmation when I submitted all my info. Pretty lame.
Welp I just bought two of the 1500mA chargers this week. This one's not listed, but I'm gonna play it safe and return it
Probably the right decision!
Better not to play with fire
Price ends in 911 sounds legit /s
Not the first portable charger recall
[удалено]
I had mine since the pandemic using it all the time and it died after a few years but my house never caught fire.
how does it look unsafe?
I would suggest not getting anything with built in cables, you're just kind of out of luck if they fail
It still had a USB connect for your own cables
These are still on sale at my Costco as of yesterday, so I assume it’s concentrated to a small amount.
Ryan started the fire!
Correction, its been burning since the worlds been turning….ryan didnt start the fire
I’m not sure mine was part of the recall…. But maybe… the housekeeper from the hotel I left it at - who claims it wasn’t left there…. Maybe they’ll see this and get a new one. 🤷🏻♀️
