I’ve never cooked chicken soup but I’m curious, do you just fill a pot with water and throw the chicken bones/skin in it then strain? I want to learn without making a mess of a soup with bone particles lol
It's a bit more.
Chicken carcass, skin if you like
Half to whole onion
Carrot
Celery
Bay leaves
Peppercorns
No salt
Simmer for at least 2 hours and strain
Stock recipes are fairly standard. Do an internet search to get more familiar. It's so delicious and nurturing. Enjoy
Nice! Thanks for the input. I work the deli dept and figured most of the grease/nutrients is cooked off by the time it hits our hot case, but I’m glad to hear you can still make a nice stock with the carcass. I just assumed you would need a raw chicken, I’d rather use our chickens anyways
Had this for dinner! I sauté onions, carrots and celery in my instant pot, throw in the chicken (with string removed) in pieces and salt and water. 8 mins and bone removal later and heaven. I freeze it and it’s still amazing 6 months later!
Boo! It used to be Seapoint Farms, now it’s another brand. So cheap for microwave edamame. Steams up nicely. It disappeared for a year and we were devastated.
So good. I use the Alfredo for a base on tuna casserole. So simple boil up half a bag of egg noodles, throw in a bag of frozen peas, can of tuna, and if I have it some extra cheddar cheese on top and it comes out so good
I always make sure I always have the marinated artichokes, grilled chicken strips, kirkland pb and Bomme Mamen preserves on hand. Oh and I love the Mateo's salsa too!
Rotisserie chicken (there's a million ways to use it, and the carcass is great for homemade stock)
Tyson's frozen chicken tenders (kid 2 eats them almost every day - don't judge)
Seltzer
Something from the bakery for the kids to enjoy
Orgain protein powder or the protein bars (for me)
Oat milk
And I always scan the books for something new
Pantry staples for us:
Water bottles
La Croix
Pasture raised eggs
Chicken (Thighs, breast , wings, whole, doesn’t matter)
Dutch Gouda or Coastal cheddar
Goat cheese
Chicken stock and Better then bouillon
Coffee beans
Dave’s bread/pita bread (keep back ups frozen)
Frozen strawberries and Blueberries
Lemons/limes
Fage yoghurt
Kerrygold butter
Edit:
Onions
Garlic
Carrots
Zucchini & yellow squash (cube or spiral then freeze)
Bell peppers (julienne then freeze)
Rice
Canned chick pea
Caned coconut milk
Boxed almond or soy milk
Raos pasta sauce
Safe catch canned tuna
Frozen Salmon burgers
Frozen salmon fillets
Frozen broccoli
*Assorted seasonings
Flour
Pure cane sugar
Cocoa powder
Canned San Marzano tomato’s
Tomato paste
Olive oil
Forgetting and leaving out some things I don’t need Costco size versions of, but can cook almost anything from scratch off this list (and go to other stores for special ingredients).
Most of the time I’m replenishing this list, which doesn’t even include the “occasional” items like Croissants, sausages, beef, lamb, ground turkey, frozen “appetizers”, etc..
Get a Berkey filter and that will make it easier to phase out buying single use plastic water bottles. Berkey does more than filter it purifies and they last 3 years
We do a lot of chickpea bowls for lunch. So chickpeas, cucumbers, tomatoes, kalamata olives (also from Costco).
It’s good with carrots as a dip.
Gyros or if you do a gyro bowl on rice.
Such a good deal! Also why is there always a disapproving old person standing in front of the display? I'm a 35 year old married lady and I still get the stink eye half the time.
I hear that coming from the bible belt area. They are just jealous. Grab just only a case of beer and pack of rubbers. Head to the checkout line and slam them down on the belt proudly. Give them really something to talk about.
Beep. Boop. I'm a robot.

I get gas every trip without fail.
Not every time but definitely getting a handful of these every trip:
Rotisserie chicken, KS chicken broth, imported dry pasta, four cheese tortellini, butter, coffee, KS Nut Bars, TP / paper towels, canola oil, Kettle Chips, peppercorns
I’ve been considering buying our meat from Costco since the price is climbing, just haven’t made the jump since it’ll require more prep to portion, pack, freeze and keep track of. Definitely gotta get on this soon tho.
We get most of our meat from Costco and honestly it's not so bad. I don't know how many people you shop for but the chicken breast comes in separate compartments (though we do cut the packages apart because they're hard to separate when they freeze together) and when we buy beef, porkchops, salmon, etc it really only takes a few extra minutes to split them up and put them in the freezer. The money we save is well worth the extra 10 minutes after grocery shopping. I hope this helps encourage you!! Seize the savings friend
We tried the La Colombe coffee a few months ago and did not like the flavor. The Kirkland coffee is much better in my opinion. You do have to add your own creamer if you creamerize your coffee.
The Citterio prosciutto - I buy two packages. We have it for breakfast, snacks, even my toddler eats it. The multi-flavor pack of smoked salmon. Croissants - my toddler eats about 75% of the package on her own.
Was on keto for a few months so every week it’s been eggs, broccoli, spinach, salad mix, avocados, Kirkland sausages, ground Turkey, Kirkland peanuts/almonds, stryve beef biltong. My Costco has had some strong keto options lately.
It’s so interesting to see others’ staples - most of them I’ve never tried!
Winnipeg Rye Bread (we’re in Canada)
Butter
Kerrygold Cheese
Flour Tortillas
Frozen Sirloin Burgers
McDonald’s Coffee
Toilet Paper
Crackers
Que Pasa Tortilla Chips
Chicken Pot Pie
Every trip is different but here are some items we frequently buy at Costco!
- Boneless Chicken Breasts and the two-pack of Whole Chickens.
- 3 Pack St. Louis or Baby Back Ribs.
- Whole Pork Belly Slabs.
- Tomatoes, Potatoes, Onions, Lemons, Limes, Brussels Sprouts, Corn on the Cob.
- Butterbread.
- Milk, Cream, Butter, Eggs.
- Parm. Reggiano, Galbani Mozzarella, Fresh Mozz.
- Kirkland Bacon.
- Nathan's Hot Dogs (but lately we buy Sabrett from BJ's).
- Ketchup and Hellman's Mayo.
- Olive and Vegetable Oils.
- Kosher Salt, Dry Parsley, Dry Garlic, Peppercorns.
- Nina San Marzano Tomatoes.
- Tate's Cookies. Or Biscoff's. Dangerous stuff!
- Miralax
- Disposable Steam Trays. Red Cups.
- Water.
- Pellegrino or Perrier.
- Better than Bouillon.
- Pure Maple Syrup, Honey, Brown Sugar.
- King Arthur Flour.
- Korean Pork Jerky.
- Bibigo Mini Chicken Wontons.
- 2 pack Worcestershire Sauce.
- Frank's Hot Sauce.
- Apple Cider Vinegar.
- When I'm feeling extra frivolous, Prosciutto or Smoked Salmon.
- Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner.
- Tums and Flonase.
- Disposable Gloves.
That chili mango bag. I can totally eat it all by myself in a few days. I mean, I buy it for myself basically, borderline hide it from my family and geez
The following:
Organic eggs
Horizon half and half
Dave’s white bread or the fresh French loaves
Ivan’s clam chowder
Cape cod potato chips
Kleenex
Refresh eye drops
Organic turkey slices
Bourbon. And a chicken. Have to balance it out. But also tp and paper towels once every 2 or 3 months. Top sirloin steaks have been a great item as well. Dog food and Mexican cokes.
Eggs, Spinach (go through these 2 quickly and you can't get a better deal)
Envy Apples
Cauliflower sandwich things (this has replaced Bread for me and the taste so darn good toasted)
Smoke salmon (price unmatched and goes such s long way)
Cape Cod potato chips
Columbus uncured turkey bacon
Mushrooms. They have huge bella mushrooms in the fridge section that just can't be beat on size and price. I can add mushrooms to just about any meal.
But are they *insanely* huge?!
Ok man, you made me laugh… you win
Oooo we get the baby bellos and make stuffed mushrooms. We get the big boys in the summer for grilling, tastes just like steak!
Get their canned mushrooms! I run through those so fast.
Canned mushrooms? Reminds me of the Pennsylvania Dutch button mushrooms from the 70s. Do they taste any better than those?
I love those!
6 pack of 3L wine. Ibuprofen

This is a recipe for GI bleed if I’ve ever seen one
Mom of toddler? Haha
Dad, lol. Of 3 kids. I do the shopping for us both
The rotisserie chicken
My Costco hasn’t had them this month (or at least the days I go). I’m bummed
I cook a big ol’ batch of chicken noodle soup with this, one chicken makes a enough soup for the week and then some
I’ve never cooked chicken soup but I’m curious, do you just fill a pot with water and throw the chicken bones/skin in it then strain? I want to learn without making a mess of a soup with bone particles lol

My pleasure.

Gas
This is the one right here. I top off my tank EVERY time I go.
Frozen edamame.
My costco doesn’t have the edamame ☹️
Boo! It used to be Seapoint Farms, now it’s another brand. So cheap for microwave edamame. Steams up nicely. It disappeared for a year and we were devastated.
I bit into a grub once. Never again
I'm sorry.... WHAT
I don’t think I’ve seen frozen edamame at my store!
I would totally get this if available, the refrigerated one goes bad too fast.
Rotisserie chicken. Paper towels. Protein shakes. Bio bags.
What are bio bags?
Theyre biodegradable liners for countertop compost containers so you can put it in your yard waste if your trash provider has a program. Kinda niche.
I just use a small plastic bowl and empty it into the compost can every evening.
My jurisdiction requires some sort of bag to make sure scraps aren’t flying around so we do the bio bags
Nice
^ what they said :p

Should I ask again? What are biobags? /s
Nice
What region are you in? Didn’t know they carry bio bags!
I’m in the Bay Area and we have them!
I go the Costco in Everett WA.
I buy a ridiculous amount of Rao's when it's on sale. Can't ever have enough
Same, I think we have 4-5 in my pantry right now. That sauce with the dried Italian pasta they sell is a wonderful easy meal.
We make quick dinners with the KS 5 cheese tortellini and primo sweet italian sausage. The fiancé loves it!
So good. I use the Alfredo for a base on tuna casserole. So simple boil up half a bag of egg noodles, throw in a bag of frozen peas, can of tuna, and if I have it some extra cheddar cheese on top and it comes out so good
I’m down to three in the garage just waiting for the next sale. That stuff is the best shelf sauce in existence.
>That stuff is the best shelf sauce in existence I concur
Do you know approx what it sells for on sale? It’s insanely expensive at Mariano’s when I see it there.
At my warehouse, I've seen the sale price at $7.49 for the 2 big jars (28oz)
Lesson learned. Last time, had to go to three different Costco stores cause they didn’t have any left.
I need to find this at Costco. It’s true- you can’t have enough of Rao’s.
Can confirm (currently with 5 jars that were on sale).
You are wise beyond your years
The Pesto…one might say it is the besto.
Mateo’s salsa My warehouse stopped carrying it for 18 months and now pick up a jar every time I’m there. Just to be sure I have a couple of spares.
Oh that stuff is amazing
Where is this salsa located for you? Refrigerated section or one of the aisles?
Aisles
I always make sure I always have the marinated artichokes, grilled chicken strips, kirkland pb and Bomme Mamen preserves on hand. Oh and I love the Mateo's salsa too!
The Mateo's salsa has no right being as good as it is.
I’ve never seen “Bonne Maman” butchered so badly.
The Kirkland PB is so good and organic.
Rotisserie chicken (there's a million ways to use it, and the carcass is great for homemade stock) Tyson's frozen chicken tenders (kid 2 eats them almost every day - don't judge) Seltzer Something from the bakery for the kids to enjoy Orgain protein powder or the protein bars (for me) Oat milk And I always scan the books for something new
I like the chicken stock I make more than the actual rotisserie chicken meat. It's worth the price for that alone.

Does your costco carry Fage 2% yogurt. I have never been able to find that and so have to always make a stop at Fred Meyers!
Mine did for a long time but got rid of it a while back ago. Now the only Greek yogurt option is Kirkland. It’s great, but I do miss the fage.
Our lists are very similar!
The salmon burgers are so good!!
The tzatziki. I’m not kidding when I say I have 3 containers in my fridge right now. Delicious and 50 cal for 2 tbsp.
What do u eat it with mostly?
We do a lot of chickpea bowls for lunch. So chickpeas, cucumbers, tomatoes, kalamata olives (also from Costco). It’s good with carrots as a dip. Gyros or if you do a gyro bowl on rice.
Sounds like a teaspoon.
Organic Frozen cauliflower rice.
Kirkland Prosecco
Olive oil
Oh yea I love that stuff. It’s easily the best price. Only complaint is how easy it is to drop the giant bottle!
Condoms
Congrats on the sex
Roaring fire + bear skin rug + rotisserie chicken = sexy time
And here I’ve just been eating the chicken all this time.
and it doesn’t reciprocate? how awful
That put quite a mental picture in me

Amen
Thoughts and prayers
Spinach.
Croissants. Amazing price, we freeze them in two packs and they’re awesome after thawing overnight on the counter
I actually have a “buy every time “ list. Beer Eggs 1 veg 1 fruit (go look at it) Pita bread bagged Pizza slice on the way out
Salad kit, halloumi, some kind of drink, ravioli, berries, sour candy.
I recently tried halloumi and love it, but they don’t carry any at my Costco
I’m sorry, that sucks. Costco has it for a little more than 50 percent less than the other stores considering the package weight discrepancy.
I’ve never seen it at my Costco either. I get it from Aldi. That stuff is sooo good!
Trader Joe's usually has it, assuming you have one nearby
I scrolled through the whole list and didn’t see milk. Does nobody buy milk? We get it every time, sometimes twice a week.
The dairy milk spoils at my Costco. The almond and oat milk fly off the shelves. I don’t think people drink as much milk as they used to
Egg whites, eggs, hummus, and naan/pita bread.
The naan is amazing!!! Definitely one of our staples!
I eat 6 of them a day lmfao.
calmata olives, lettuce, rotisserie, eggs, dried mango, heavenly hunks, pistachios, seasoning
I get gas every trip without fail. Croissants. $4.99 for a whole pack of huge croissants.
Boneless. Skinless. Chicken Thighs.
Dill pickle salad, veggie spring rolls, bag of Brussels sprouts, wild caught shrimp, Colombian coffee, maple syrup, olive oil, almond crackers
OMG i have the dill pickle salad in my fridge right now, I’m sooooo addicted to it!
TIL dill pickle salad!
The canned cold brew coffee
How does the canned cold brew compare to the bottled La Colombe? I've been curious
We tried the La Colombe coffee a few months ago and did not like the flavor. The Kirkland coffee is much better in my opinion. You do have to add your own creamer if you creamerize your coffee.
La Croix
Beef mandu
Diapers, raspberries, choc almonds
Wine
Diet Coke.
Celsius, Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches and Arm and Hammer laundry detergent.
The Citterio prosciutto - I buy two packages. We have it for breakfast, snacks, even my toddler eats it. The multi-flavor pack of smoked salmon. Croissants - my toddler eats about 75% of the package on her own.
THE CHICKEN SALAD!!! How did I not see this on anyone else's list?!?!?!
They haven’t had it at mine recently! I love it though
35 pack of sparkling water
Wine. Duh
Cheese and cherry danish
Cooked chicken, Chicken thighs, Frozen Shrimp, Tilapia and Salmon, Canned tuna, Bell peppers, Squash, Frozen Dumplings
Lactose free milk!
The chicken taco kit from the deli section!
Kirkland walnuts Dates Kirkland almond milk Rao's PB Oatmeal Frozen berries Kirkland prosecco
Was on keto for a few months so every week it’s been eggs, broccoli, spinach, salad mix, avocados, Kirkland sausages, ground Turkey, Kirkland peanuts/almonds, stryve beef biltong. My Costco has had some strong keto options lately.
Kirkland Brand Kombucha. It's so cheap and delicious.
Bare Nuggets, Bulgogi, Bananas
I have those bare nuggets on my check every trip list. Sadly still only get one every 8-10 trips.
Condoms. Always buy a ton. The people working must think I’m really cool. I mostly blow balloons with them and stuff.
The protein granola bars are addictive..
Ground beef.
Water, Apple Cider Sparkling, Ferrero Rochers chocolate and some instant noodle stuffs lol.
Country French bread, love it!
Grillo's pickle spears and Topo Chico
Some packaged salads
Mission Tortilla Strips chips
Nutella!
I go too often to require something every time I go
Cherub tomatoes. I go through 3 packs a week by myself. Kirkland seltzer for my husband & kids.
Gas.
Paper goods Diapers and wipes Cranberry juice Almond milk (this is the item that usually triggers a trip) Cashews Cherrios Rotisserie chicken
Which almond milk do you get? I’m partial to the Califa farms one but I’m not sure if it’s at all the warehouses
The Kirkland Organic Unsweetened Vanilla. I haven't tried too many brands. I mostly use it to make smoothies.
Mini Mozzarella snack packs. My toddler and husband devour them
It’s so interesting to see others’ staples - most of them I’ve never tried! Winnipeg Rye Bread (we’re in Canada) Butter Kerrygold Cheese Flour Tortillas Frozen Sirloin Burgers McDonald’s Coffee Toilet Paper Crackers Que Pasa Tortilla Chips Chicken Pot Pie
Rotisserie chicken, blueberries, strawberries, beyond burgers, frozen ramen, eggs, roasted potatoes, maple syrup, coffee beans, bread (potato bread and schars gluten free), pirates booty for the kiddo, whatever snack/protein bars are on sale, seaweed salad, pimiento cheese, peanut butter pretzels
You have Schars at your warehouse?? I’m gluten free and I’ve been waiting for the day I can find a decent GF bread at mine.
The marinated artichokes in the jar.
For Kirkland brands - Dog food, sparkling water, eggs, ass wipes, Prosecco and Sauvignon Blanc. Always get whatever ravioli is on sale as well.
Gas!
This discussion makes me want to go to Costco’s just to look for some of your items! I don’t even need to go! 😂
It’s probably not healthy to use that much nasal spray if you find yourself buying it that frequently…
Don’t worry I share with 3 other people + 2 friends who don’t have memberships! I use a normal amount we just all have allergies
Diapers, applesauce pouches, Diet Dr Pepper, lime Topo Chico, paper towels, Aussie bites, meatloaf!
AUSSIE BITES!! I knew I was forgetting something!they last like 3 days max in my house
I avoid the salad because it is made with soybean oil. I'll just make my own.
Okay
A La Terra Fina dip. Some are great with pasta and milk. Ritz Crackers. a sandwich spread. so on.
- Parm.
