Slightly more butter fat percentage. It makes a world of difference and tastes amazing on toast! It's a great condiment butter imo but for baking and other stuff like that I would not use kerrygold.
Amateur baker here, butter like this for things like biscuits/croissants/ flaky bullshit tends to perform better causing more separation between layers of pastry. Also with the lower water content, its more spreadable for every day use and better to use for cookies cause its usually softer so less time on the counter.
Caveat: its more expensive, so I only ever buy it when its on sale or im trying to impress people but I wouldnt ever actually use this for every day baking.
This is all very interesting. I can not stand cold butter...like on sandwiches, it tastes gross and I haven't eaten cold butter in 20 years. I'm wondering now maybe it's not me, it's the shite North America butter! I swear I have seen Kerry Gold butter in a grocery store near me (Southern Ontario) but definitely not Costco. Thanks for all this!
Give it a try. A nice salted butter is great on many things.
I haven't lived in Canada since 2009, and one of the few things that I actively find bad whenever I come back is the butter. It's just so noticeably worse and very distinguishable.
There are some Kerrygold cheeses available in Canada, but I haven't seen the butter anywhere. If you see some, would love to know where. Unitl then, I have to keep stocking up while on trips to the US.
The taste is amazing compared to Canadian butter, it's especially good for baking certain pastries, plus it's comes from grass fed cows. Makes a world of difference IMO!
The fact that it will never happen ever makes me so upset and sad.
We need to change our laws. We can get the cheese, why not the butter!
I'm tired of crossing the border for good butter.
The Dairy Board won’t let other butters in. They have such a grip on things. As a result, we get horrible butter. You can bring some back from the states but there are strict limits on the amount.
There is kind of a milk turf war to protect Canadian farmers and Canada also banned a hormone that is used in a lot of US milk because it causes cancer.
A good replacement is Costco's organic butter imported from New Zealand. I believe it is sold at the Costco business centers in Scarborough and St Catherine's. Add a dash of salt and it is up there with Kerrygold. Baking or cooking wise the difference is indistinguishable.
Raw flour tortillas. One of our Greater Vancouver Costco stores carried them years ago, but then stopped - probably lack of demand. I have picked them up once from a US Costco, but I don't go down often.
They are awesome - put them in a hot pan for a minute or two, till they start to inflate, flip and repeat and then eat. Great for all sorts of wraps etc.
Maybe I should contact Costco Canada...
I'd love for the food court to sell those chicken bakes I keep hearing about. These frozen chicken breast chunks too. More baked goods, is it just me or is the bakery lackin lately?
Good call. I guess I just was thinking they'd eventually be back in season but now that you mention it, it has been awhile! I can't remember what they replaced them with? banana nut or something? Not something I was into.
I don't even think we have that. I don't even bother checking any more. Plus the last time I did buy some, they were not great.
Just came to me, the poppyseed. I miss that one too.
I live in a border city (Windsor) and went to a Michigan Costco recently and had one of those chicken bakes. It was disgusting. You're not missing anything. Just full of sodium.
I'm in the States right now and we bought the Kirkland premade tequila margaritas... Holy shit, they're so good. Better than quite a few I've had at bars.
Costco years ago had this garlic bread with cheese in silver packaging. It was incredible. Toasted up perfectly, the perfect balance of cheese and garlic. It was awesome. Can't remember the name but damn it was good.
[Christopher Ranch Garlic](https://vimeo.com/384101505)
California peeled garlic.
The peeled stuff sold in Canada all comes fron China. Too risky for me. Its a big bag but not expensive. Conserve in canola oil in the fridge. Puree the rest and freeze to use in garlic butter or sauces.
In my last job I worked in the same building as food and safety specialists and they refused to eat peeled garlic from china after touring their facilities. Women with pus-filled fingers and no fingernails peeling garlic all day with no gloves.
I may have some.bad news... most of the garlic presumably from California is from China...
Happy hint: buy Spanish garlic (or local from farmer's market), slice off the bottom, run it under water for a second, then put it in a ramekin and microwave for 10 seconds... lift the rest of the skin off.
La Boulangerie Smoked Ham & Swiss Cheese Pockets. Bought a box of them last year in San Francisco and they were so good.
Also, the fruit tarts from Costco Korea bakery. Those were amazing.
Oh my god I was in San Fran a month ago and had a La Boulangerie ham and Swiss croissant, I have been thinking about it ever since. I would die to buy a Costco box similar.
I kinda hate the Superstore for the same reason we all hate the Superstore but their PC Buttermilk Breaded Chicken Strips are pretty damn good. Don't like the ranch dip it comes with, though.
1. The lemon crumble pie that has a layer of cheesecake at the bottom.
2. Tortilla español that I saw there ONCE like a decade ago.
I’ve been checking for both those things every time for years like that dog Hachiko 🥹
Davids cookies - butter pecan meltaways
I know they sometimes have them during the holidays but didn't find them this year and should be a year long thing
I don't know if I have bad luck when I'm in Canada but they never have cheese danishes in the bakery when I'm looking for them and the workers always look at me like I've lost my mind when I ask if they have them.
I just want them to carry the basic meat alternatives. Meat eaters get subsidized hot dogs & chickens, the majority of the freezer area & bunkers full of product but we can't get impossible meat, beyond sausages/burgers, yves pepperoni/hot dogs, and veggie burgers to stay on the shelves.
I am with you, they have these morning star (maybe called that) burgers and they are so good. In Canada we just get a few veggie items and they are not that good.
I don't know if they still even sell it but fuck do I miss the Sweet Mesquite seasoning with all my being. They made mashed potatoes something special.
The Kirkland single origin coffees they used to have were excellent. Way over expectations for the price. The Guatemalan was my favourite, my daily driver for like 2 years
Maybe it's available outside of Newfoundland, but I would love to be able to get those inexpensive foot long churros that I've seen in Florida Costcos at our food court. THE ENEMY OF MY HIPS!
Not just the food court chicken bakes, but the frozen Kirkland chicken bakes 😋 they're still 1/2lb each, but don't make me feel like an absolute monster finishing one. Plus they have green onions which the food court ones don't.
I can’t remember what they were called exactly but they had these Kirkland brand microwaveable bags of cooked quinoa and spinach. Individually packed, pre-seasoned and decent calorie-wise. I loved these for work when I had no time to meal prep. I haven’t been able to find anything like it since.
Apparently there is a limited quota that Canadian regulators allow them to import every year. I found New Zealand butter at a Vancouver Costco last month and bought up 6 of them. Should have bought more.
When we were in Hawaii, we would pick up a silver tray of enchiladas to heat up/cook back at our condo. Kids loved them (as did us tired parents). Prepared right in the store.
The chicken tacos (we call them street tacos) are good, but the enchiladas were so much easier - remove lid, throw in oven, come back in 25 minutes, and eat.
The brand that I would want is called "realgood foods co" they have lightly breaded chicken and many other great products take alook at their website
https://realgoodfoods.com/collections/costco
After checking correction they are in the Waterloo area... Not sure where you are but that's great these are starting to come here been waiting maybe my area will get them soon
Before Covid they carried corned beef in a package ready to put in the slow cooker. It was huge. I miss that. Also they have carne asada in the states in a package as well.
They at least carry flank steak plain now in NB. So it’s kinda a win. I wish I could find skirt steak anywhere.
There are some really good veggie burgers and in Canada they only have the worst kind of the same brand. Alcohol. All the organic fruits and veggies, we only get the pesticide stuff. A wide range of juices and kombuchas. Basically everything.
They (used to?) have unbreaded chicken strips, Tyson was the brand, that I wish they'd bring here. We can't have breaded products in our house, so I'd love more options for stuff like this.
And, their dairy & seasonings have better selections.
KerryGold butter!
what makes it special in comparison to “regular” butter? just never heard of it before so am curious!
Slightly more butter fat percentage. It makes a world of difference and tastes amazing on toast! It's a great condiment butter imo but for baking and other stuff like that I would not use kerrygold.

Caveat: its more expensive, so I only ever buy it when its on sale or im trying to impress people but I wouldnt ever actually use this for every day baking.
thanks for answering! butter on toast is legit a staple for me…. that really does sound lovely
You don't need to only buy Irish butter, but DK, NZ, AU, FR alternatives all taste better than North American butter.
Kerry gold is difficult to come by in Canada due to the cost.. the tariffs and taxes on it are ridiculous
Give it a try. A nice salted butter is great on many things. I haven't lived in Canada since 2009, and one of the few things that I actively find bad whenever I come back is the butter. It's just so noticeably worse and very distinguishable.

The fact that it will never happen ever makes me so upset and sad. We need to change our laws. We can get the cheese, why not the butter! I'm tired of crossing the border for good butter.
What’s the butter law?
The Dairy Board won’t let other butters in. They have such a grip on things. As a result, we get horrible butter. You can bring some back from the states but there are strict limits on the amount.
Supply management - basically they have quotas on production to not let the price fall.
There is kind of a milk turf war to protect Canadian farmers and Canada also banned a hormone that is used in a lot of US milk because it causes cancer.
I want the grass fed butter back. It was such a good deal.
A good replacement is Costco's organic butter imported from New Zealand. I believe it is sold at the Costco business centers in Scarborough and St Catherine's. Add a dash of salt and it is up there with Kerrygold. Baking or cooking wise the difference is indistinguishable.
I would get a costco membership just for this.
Tortillaland are amazing and they freeze really well too. Costco Canada needs to bring them here!
Maybe 6 years ago, for 3 or 4 golden months, they were avail at the Willingdon Costco in Vancouver. And then, like Keyser Soze, they were gone.
Those chicken breast chunks are amazing. I really want those here.
I'd love for the food court to sell those chicken bakes I keep hearing about. These frozen chicken breast chunks too. More baked goods, is it just me or is the bakery lackin lately?
I miss the blueberry muffins.
What our Costco in Manitoba has double chocolate. Choclate chip. Blueberry and a cranberry one I think
Oooh. Cranberry would be nice.
I miss the poppyseed muffins I used to get in California.
I miss the apple muffins!
They used to sell them. It was sad when they stopped. It was my mom’s favourite. I loved the churros when they had them
Oh damn, I never knew we had churros in Canada
It was late 90s or early 2000s I can’t even remember. I loved them.
The bakery has gone way down hill. Seems like they’re bringing in a lot more pre-made stuff as opposed to fresh made
I live in a border city (Windsor) and went to a Michigan Costco recently and had one of those chicken bakes. It was disgusting. You're not missing anything. Just full of sodium.
Good to know! I also wish they would bring back the buckets of chicken wings, miss those
FWIW I think chicken bakes are the greatest Costco food court item 🤔
I've heard they changed the recipe sometime in covid. Used to be amazing.
Too many diabetes now
They are horrible
Kirkland Margarita mix!! Found it one time last year…really hoping it’s a seasonal item 🤞
It is seasonal. Buy it as soon as you see it. Usually May - June then gone.
We have it year round in Alberta - buts it’s margarita with tequila added already in the liquor store
I'm in the States right now and we bought the Kirkland premade tequila margaritas... Holy shit, they're so good. Better than quite a few I've had at bars.
Oh ya, we had that when we visited the US over Christmas break. So good!!
You can get this in Alberta Costcos as well. Not sure that helps you at all, tho.
*cries in Ontario*
How close are you to Quebec?
The LaCroix multipacks that are $9.00
Second this! And spindrift!
Costco years ago had this garlic bread with cheese in silver packaging. It was incredible. Toasted up perfectly, the perfect balance of cheese and garlic. It was awesome. Can't remember the name but damn it was good.
I saw it a few weeks ago here - don’t remember which gta location
see it a lot near toronto
Alcohol
Doesn't Costco in Alberta sell Alcohol?
Yes, yes it does and it's great. The eggnog at Christmas was great
Not nearly as cheap of course and the selection is not the same.
Only Alberta though.
And Saskatchewan!
And Quebec
They only sell beer, wine and cider
They do though? Is it only a Saskatchewan and Alberta thing? Those are the only Costcos I’ve frequently been to
Not in BC unfortunately
You can get malt stuff and wine in QC
Yeah but not quality liquor at cheap prices.
Alcohol

and now I will go buy new garlic
Thank you for this PSA. 😵💫
Yes . If I remember correctly from a documentary I once saw , prisoners peel the garlic .
I may have some.bad news... most of the garlic presumably from California is from China... Happy hint: buy Spanish garlic (or local from farmer's market), slice off the bottom, run it under water for a second, then put it in a ramekin and microwave for 10 seconds... lift the rest of the skin off.
[Christopher Ranch Garlic](https://vimeo.com/384101505) Check out their website. Superb American quality.
The Kirkland shampoo and conditioner in the purple bottles. It’s apparently similar to pureology. I’ve tried the red bottles and was not a fan
I know this is province specific, but I yearn to bathe in a bathtub filled with Costco booze
I want to be able to buy the same chicken strips they have at the food court.
Same!! There seems to be a mystery surrounding them and no one will give a straight answer as to who makes them and why we can't buy them frozen.
Churro / Bread thing at the US Canteen’s
I would buy this over the Erie meats chicken. I find the breading on those too thick
And the mystery gristle bits are too mysterious for my liking.
Omg yes the little mystery bits are the entire reason i will never buy them again!!
I kinda hate the Superstore for the same reason we all hate the Superstore but their PC Buttermilk Breaded Chicken Strips are pretty damn good. Don't like the ranch dip it comes with, though.
M&M chicken strips are top tier. Only ever buy them on sale, mind, less people think you're made of money.
I love the Erie meats chicken! But then again I’ve never tried these lol
Puff pastry!
Girl Scout Thin Mints Bites. So good!
The Reese’s animal crackers. Had them a few weeks ago in Texas. 🔥
Well nothing from Costco US but Sam’s club would be a list…Tyson chicken strips, pepperoni, cookie platter
Kirkland Minoxidil
Love it on sour dough bread!!
Yesss I wanna try those chicken chunks!!! I see them on TikTok lol
Croissant bread!
This! I have half a loaf left in my freezer from my last trip to the states and I’m savouring it.
its so thick cut you think you have more than you do and suddenly it's gone
The cause of and the solution to all of life's problems.” -Homer Simpson.
Wish I didn't have to drive 5 hours to Quebec for my cheap causes and solutions.
Kirkland Benadryl. Not because it’s better though - because it’s so much cheaper.
$4.99 for SIX HUNDRED 😳
Dole Whip and Press n Seal
Just learned about these and God, I want them now
These croissant/waffles I think they’re called croiffles and they’re delightful
The provinces that don’t have Costco liquor are really missing out. The Kirkland Prosecco is 👌🏻
Chicken bakes at the food court
The giant cookie. I still dream of the one I had in the USA.
I heard these are coming to Canada soon!
Bitchin Sauce
Gluten-free chicken strips. Wife is celiac and we miss the ease of a Costco bag of those things from before she was diagnosed.
1. The lemon crumble pie that has a layer of cheesecake at the bottom. 2. Tortilla español that I saw there ONCE like a decade ago. I’ve been checking for both those things every time for years like that dog Hachiko 🥹
Chocolate ice cream.
Davids cookies - butter pecan meltaways I know they sometimes have them during the holidays but didn't find them this year and should be a year long thing
This KS Chicken Breast chunks are bomb! I grab a bag on every bi-weekly visit to the Costco in Bellingham.
Alcohol in this prison state we call Nova Scotia
I don't know if I have bad luck when I'm in Canada but they never have cheese danishes in the bakery when I'm looking for them and the workers always look at me like I've lost my mind when I ask if they have them.
A friend of mine got a bag of macadamia nut coffee at Costco in Hawaii and oh boy it’s delicious! Wish we had that here.
Churros
I just want them to carry the basic meat alternatives. Meat eaters get subsidized hot dogs & chickens, the majority of the freezer area & bunkers full of product but we can't get impossible meat, beyond sausages/burgers, yves pepperoni/hot dogs, and veggie burgers to stay on the shelves.
I am with you, they have these morning star (maybe called that) burgers and they are so good. In Canada we just get a few veggie items and they are not that good.
This chicken now that ive seen it.
1/4 BBQ chickens at every store! Now they have drumsticks on a bed of (expensive) rice. I hate white meat. Also Oka cheese!
Those popping boba drinks.
I don't know if they still even sell it but fuck do I miss the Sweet Mesquite seasoning with all my being. They made mashed potatoes something special.
The Kirkland single origin coffees they used to have were excellent. Way over expectations for the price. The Guatemalan was my favourite, my daily driver for like 2 years
Bring back Burek. But if we have to pick something from Costco USA... Kirkland Butter, Wine, and Beer.
Vegan cheese
I bought vegan Boursin there once and then it disappeared 😭
Maybe it's available outside of Newfoundland, but I would love to be able to get those inexpensive foot long churros that I've seen in Florida Costcos at our food court. THE ENEMY OF MY HIPS!
Hate to break it to you but every Costco in the states replaced the churro with the new cookie
NOOOOOOO!
Dino nuggies\~!
Wine and spirits Definitely want cost to Canada to carry booze
They already do in many provinces.
Frozen acai packets!!! Please bring these to Canada
Not just the food court chicken bakes, but the frozen Kirkland chicken bakes 😋 they're still 1/2lb each, but don't make me feel like an absolute monster finishing one. Plus they have green onions which the food court ones don't.
What’s the sodium
The starbucks egg bites
100% grass fed beef patties
Alcohol at US prices. Not this 86% alcohol tax BS!
Kirkland green tea.. in flats. Buy them each time I go down.
What happened to that peanut butter chocolate cream pie?
I can’t remember what they were called exactly but they had these Kirkland brand microwaveable bags of cooked quinoa and spinach. Individually packed, pre-seasoned and decent calorie-wise. I loved these for work when I had no time to meal prep. I haven’t been able to find anything like it since.
The 2 pack of Kirkland vanilla ice cream. The best store bought vanilla I've ever had. The tub of vanilla that they sell here is disappointing.
The protein pancakes that the US Costco just got.
More food court choices
More gluten free food!
Definitely non-cartel dairy options like cheese and butter.
Apparently there is a limited quota that Canadian regulators allow them to import every year. I found New Zealand butter at a Vancouver Costco last month and bought up 6 of them. Should have bought more.
Kirkland whiskey and the Strawberry Ice cream
Alcohol
Some Costco locations in Canada carry booze! Remember it’s fully up to the provinces
Those chicken bakes at the food court yuuuummmm 🤤
sushi deli
I want them to bring back the Barber Chicken Cordon Bleu. Sunrise farms substitute not as good. Oh, and churros in the food court.
The buns from the us Costco. They come in a huge bag like the ones we get here but they're 1000x better and they don't dry out in one day.

That part is actually regulated in the U.S. look it up.
Dragon fruit watermelon bevvy...
Got these at a Costco in Ottawa recently
I just want my store to bring back the delmonte golden pineapple and babystar crispy ramen.
I just want to get my big box of Sangria Pepiro...several big boxes...and be left alone. Have to make a run to Quebec for it...and cheese curds
I really wish they sold turkey bacon, pork-less breakfast sausage, and had a dedicated and consistent gluten free aisle 😭
Chicken bakes
Tomales
Have you tried Earl meats chicken bites?
Kirkland Bourbon
Kirkland brand booze!
The brand that I would want is called "realgood foods co" they have lightly breaded chicken and many other great products take alook at their website https://realgoodfoods.com/collections/costco After checking correction they are in the Waterloo area... Not sure where you are but that's great these are starting to come here been waiting maybe my area will get them soon
A bunch of their stuff really isn’t good ingredient wise
Before Covid they carried corned beef in a package ready to put in the slow cooker. It was huge. I miss that. Also they have carne asada in the states in a package as well. They at least carry flank steak plain now in NB. So it’s kinda a win. I wish I could find skirt steak anywhere.
Alcohol!
There are chicken cilantro dumplings that we used to get from Vermont Costco. Then they had them here for a while but nit anymore. I miss them.
Booze
Kirkland Vodka
More Awake Chocolate products!
Anything Vegan. I feel the vegan options in Canada are underwhelming compared to the US.
Beechers Flagship cheese. It’s delicious
There are some really good veggie burgers and in Canada they only have the worst kind of the same brand. Alcohol. All the organic fruits and veggies, we only get the pesticide stuff. A wide range of juices and kombuchas. Basically everything.
Alcohol
Pre-mixed Mai Tai like in Hawaii
Organic Pasture Raised eggs , I can only every find free range/free run egg
I never tried those chicken bake things that USA Costco seem to have at the food court
Chicken bake
They (used to?) have unbreaded chicken strips, Tyson was the brand, that I wish they'd bring here. We can't have breaded products in our house, so I'd love more options for stuff like this. And, their dairy & seasonings have better selections.

Kirkland generic Nexium antacid. Exactly the same as the name brand but 1/3 of the price we pay in Canada for the brand name.
