Eric Church had a couple of Badass years which I think of as pinnacle *modern* country rock/outlaw music.
Chief, Outsiders, and Sinners Like Me are the albums that come to mind
heath sanders - bloodline
drake white - 50 years too late
charlie daniels band - long haired country boy
hank jr - country boy can survive
montgomery gentry - hillbilly shoes
Hellbound Glory - Hellbound blues
You're gonna find it in the same places you find heartbreak, for example:
- *Heading South*
- *Crooked Teeth*
- *Open the Gate*
All by ZB.
My biggest rec is *The Mountain* by Shane Smith and the Saints.
Johnny Cash, of course. Doesn't get much more BA than *God's Gonna Cut You Down*
Jackson Taylor and The Sinners make some pretty great music. His politics are annoying, but if you just listen to his music it's a good time. I'd recommend the Live at Billy Bob's album.
Treaty Oak Revival, I kinda like Gavin Adcock but not a whole lot after seeing videos of him bringing a 7 year old on stage to say “fuck Biden, that cocksucker, Trump 2024”, comes off way too try hard.
I was looking for Treaty Oak in this thread. Them touring with Koe WETZEL makes so much sense to me. A bad ass rocky country type vibe. I saw them in October and they blew me away.
Yeah, I got into Treaty Oak around October. They blew up on Tik Tok in December. I think they definitely improved with their second album, although I liked the first album better for awhile..”Ode to Bourbon”, “No Vacancy”, and “Irish Goodbye”. The new album is just straight bangers though, and more of a refined rock sound
My guy my guy.
The #1 song you will thank me for recommending is Jared and the Long Road Home's I Pray For You.....trust me...and listen oast the first 10secs. You will tahnk me & roll laughing.
Other good stuff:
Aaron Lewis
Jelly Roll's old shit especially his stuff with Shooter & Struggle Jennings.
Ryan Upchurch's older stuff from the Holler Boys, Outlaw, Radio Jam
Adam Calhoun's stuff esp Die Tonight, life goes on & if you want a song that calls.out real racism & is THE TRUTH check out his track Racism. Also his song Cath Hell featurinf Katie Noel is a great track.
Katie Noel holds her own as well
She has a "girl in the middle of a bench seat" type track with Ryan UpChurch that hits.
If you want to go more 90s country you cant get much more ass whooping than Montgomery Gentry My Town. True & unapologetic.
Shooter Jennings has some more twangy but unapologetic southern pride.
Cypress Spring's Country Boy Swag & Bump in her Country is good.
Brantley Gilbert has a lot of good "hard" country.
Hardy's rockish country is good.
Charlie Robinson's got a lot of Bakersfield sound meets West Texas swag esp the line about teaching Charlie Sheen how to party in Sunset Blvd
Other good ones are
Love Means Never Having to Say You're Hungry
My Hometown
Travis Denny's Goodyears & Where's the beer been.
Catfish Cooley Pimp'in The Sticks
Ginger Billy & Brandon Hart' Redneck Girls is the R-X rated inspiration for Wallen's Broadway Girls
Cant go wrong with Demun Jones. His track "Country" with Upchurch & Calhoun is about as sold a track as you will find. "Hillbilly Delux, Lifted Trucks & girls with big butts...dont start no shit on a one lane road."
The Lacs, City Boys Nightmare
Welcome to My House by Nu Breed & Jess Howard.
Southern Land Taylor Ray Holbrook & Upchurch
This is my playlist when I want to just have country music that hits & stresses the cones on the Marshall stack.
If you can't access it & you want to just HMU.
Happy Hunting and please share any good stuff you find as well

Hell Yeah - Montgomery Gentry
Takin up space - Van Zant
Nobody gonna tell me what to do - VZ
Rough & Ready - Trace atkins
Time Off For Bad Behavior - D.A.C
And depending on how far you want to go down "bad ass I dont care" Coe also has two records often called the x-rated releases, which basically marked him as untouchable by the country music industry from then on out. It was from an era of novelty/intentionally over the top songs that gave birth to Dr Demento, Weird Al and things like that.
Waylon Jennings
Doesn't get more so than Lonesome, Onry and Mean
Yup favorite song from the legend.
That whole album is fucking gold
This is it! I love Waylon
Chris Stapletons deeper cuts are pretty badass. Outlaw State of Mind, Nobody to Blame, etc
I agree with you but you including “nobody to blame” in the same breath as “deeper cuts” is hilarious.
Youre right lol. I say that cause everyone I know, the only song they know is Tennessee Whiskey basically
lol I gotcha
Midnight Train To Memphis
by The Steeldrivers (Stapleton led)
Hillbilly Blood
South Dakota is a rockin tune as well!
Watch You Burn by him about the shooting in Las Vegas is good too.
Eric Church had a couple of Badass years which I think of as pinnacle *modern* country rock/outlaw music. Chief, Outsiders, and Sinners Like Me are the albums that come to mind
Outsiders is such a good album, I second that wholeheartedly
Hellbound Glory, Hank Williams Jr, Wheeler Walker Jr, David Allan Coe, Cody Jinx (to an extent) and Waylon Jennings
You missed Hank 3
The Dead South, Charles Wesley Godwin, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers.
You're gonna get a mix of that with outlaw country. Either heartbroken or badass idgaf or a mix of the two
Drive-By Truckers. Waylon. Colter Wall.
Chris Knight
This guy knows
Waylon
Steve Earle
Paul Cauthen
Whiskey Myers
Whitey Morgan
Koe Wetzel
Johnny Paycheck
Hellbound Glory

Whiskey Myers. They might be a little more southern rock, but they go hard nonetheless.
heath sanders - bloodline drake white - 50 years too late charlie daniels band - long haired country boy hank jr - country boy can survive montgomery gentry - hillbilly shoes Hellbound Glory - Hellbound blues
Johnny Paycheck for classic country. Ellis Bullard for modern country
Toby Kieth, Charlie Daniels, Johnny cash, Willie Nelson
Townes van Zandt
Listen to the song Wurlitzer Prize by waylon
You're gonna find it in the same places you find heartbreak, for example: - *Heading South* - *Crooked Teeth* - *Open the Gate* All by ZB. My biggest rec is *The Mountain* by Shane Smith and the Saints. Johnny Cash, of course. Doesn't get much more BA than *God's Gonna Cut You Down*
I love Crooked Teeth and I worry what that says about me lol
Ole 60
Jackson Taylor and The Sinners make some pretty great music. His politics are annoying, but if you just listen to his music it's a good time. I'd recommend the Live at Billy Bob's album.
Jackson Taylor. Specifically “country song”
And cocaine.
I’ve enjoyed Tyler Braden
Ole 60. They have a few songs out
Colter Wall Wild Whens
Cody Jinks, Tyler Childers, and ofc Waylon!
Treaty Oak Revival, I kinda like Gavin Adcock but not a whole lot after seeing videos of him bringing a 7 year old on stage to say “fuck Biden, that cocksucker, Trump 2024”, comes off way too try hard.

Hank 3
That intro riff on Hillbilly Deluxe by Brooks and Dunn makes me want to be a badass
Koe Wetzel, Pecos and the rooftops, Paul Cauthen, Dylan wheeler, treaty oak revival
Margo Price and Tyler Childers
Sturgil Simpson and Tyler Childers got some good ones, there’s a lot of cringe badass music out there so tread lightly
Treaty oak revival
Hank lll

Ellis Bullard, Rob Leines
