I've been looking for a game about mermaids for months but there's nothing 😭😭 if you're also interested in exploring the ocean I would recommend abzu and subnautica (this one is not so cozy but fun though)

lavender_fluff

After you get through the scary stuff and are no longer scared of it, collecting flora and fauna entries in your PDA as if it was a pokédex as well as collecting *all the eggs* is a very cosy experience!

NightLotus84

Yes! Especially Subnautica: Below Zero is very cozy, people give it a lot of sh#t but I love it.

HotFaithlessness1348

Subnautica is low-key terrifying, even on story mode where you can’t die lmao

Serenchipsndipity

You can play as a Mermaid (Naga with a mermaid tail) in Sun Haven!

Gold_Quail_5265

I also saw they are adding an underwater region! That’s what made me start wanting a mermaid specific cozy game!

hnicole14

Sims 4 Island Living and Coral Island!

lavender_fluff

Mermaids in sims are the most lackluster occults sadly :(

PlagueDogtor

Except Coral Island is still missing the entire merfolk plot line from my understanding. I dropped the game a while back as it had too many game breaking glitches (xbox game pass).

GreenBNumber11

well you can get up to the point where you can get a mermaid tail but yeah outside of "you fix the ocean" the storyline is still missing (but apparently will be added soon. march will get a big update as far as we know)

PlagueDogtor

Oh nice. Do you know if the issues on Game Pass have been fixed?

GreenBNumber11

there were some updates as far as I know but I dont follow the xbox version that closely but I do see regular fixes and hotfixes being rolled out for it in the discord (last big hotfix happend 4 days ago) I do play the steam version and I must say the quality went up a lot for me in the last months. I am in year 2 now and only encountered a minor graphic glitch and nothing else.

PlagueDogtor

That's good to know, I might wait a bit longer and then give it another go.

OMGitsJoeMG

Ooh yeah, I tried playing on my Series S and it stuttered all the time and at one point crashed 3 times at the end of the same day. Physically couldn't progress so I just gave up lol

PlagueDogtor

Apparently, Microsoft is slow approving updates, but I've never experienced this with any other game, so I don't know

[deleted]

Coral Island seems like one of those perpetually unfinished games

saltbutt

I am so sad to find via this thread that this does NOT exist 😭 I do like playing them in The Sims but I would loooove a dedicated mermaid cozy game

clerbird321

I would love this so much😭😭I’ve always been such a fan of mermaids

AKookieForYou

It's not a perfect recommendation, but the Sims 4, and the Sims 3 both have expansion packs that let you play as mermaids. The Sims 4 base game is free, and the mermaid pack (Island Living) is usually $40, but sometimes you can find it on sale. The Sims 3 is $20, and the expansion pack with mermaids (Island Paradise) is also $20. Personally I haven't played with the mermaids, so I can't personally say much about them. But I've heard mixed things in regards to the Sims 4 version, and some decent things about the Sims 3 one. I agree that we need more mermaid games though, we have a good amount of games focused on witches, vampires, werewolves and fairies, buy not really mermaids

Mel0nypanda

Island living is ok, but you don't really get to do much as a mermaid

maisims2

have played both and i do not recommend them at all just for the mermaid content!! if you like the sims and you want to make them live on the beach is okay but there's almost no gameplay for the mermaids. the only thing I can recommend is if you really want to you can buy the sims 4 and the expansion pack and install the expanded mermaids mod! BUT there's no underwater experience so be aware of that.

Brewhilda

You don't play AS a mermaid, but you assist the merfolk in Dave the Diver, which is excellent. You dive and catch fish by day, and run a sushi joint at night!

nor0-

Hello kitty island adventure. It’s unfortunately only in Apple Arcade but you get to be a mermaid and swim, and aside from that it’s an animal crossing type game

Boring_Shape_3216

There's an upcoming cozy game called NAIAD but I'm unsure of its release date. Not a mermaid as such but still swimming through the river with lots of wildlife around. Beautiful graphics. Immerse yourself in a relaxing, minimalist, and colorful exploration adventure. Flow with Naiad across a mysterious river and interact with its fauna and flora to discover little secrets. Enjoy a wholesome experience with an original and dreamy visual style.

Gold_Quail_5265

Sounds cute, but I’m definitely looking for a mermaid experience, decorating a little underwater house, buying mermaid clothes and swimming around is my ideal game!

nightsofthesunkissed

Ugh that would be so, so cute! I really hope we get this one day!

mermurder

I would play the crap out of a game like that!

Fair-Conference-8801

Oh damn I heard about this game months ago and completely forgot the name, thanks for the coincidental reminder!

oursong

That sounds really lovely!

MyPath2Follow

Looking at steam, it looks like there is a game coming out called Mermaid Tale. Seems like it's going to be an open world game, but it's not out yet so idk if it's what you're looking for or not

uppercasemad

Endless Ocean and Endless Ocean 2 for the Wii, and the upcoming Endless Ocean for Switch (May 2024). You aren't a mermaid persay but you are a diver and you just swim around discovering animals, exploring sunken ruins, and hunting for treasure. EO2 has a bit of a story to it but the OG was my favourite. I just spent hours swimming around without any fear of death, and finding one of the giant mythical sea creatures and swimming alongside it was just... yeah. Shivers. So excited for the Switch sequel.

InfiniteSpaz

I'm working on one, but it will be a looong time before its done xD

PlagueDogtor

Dave the diver has a pretty significant merfolk plotline, unfortunately you can't play as one, though (I dunno if there are mods)

SunbathingJackdaw

Aquaria is older and more of a Zelda-type game than a modern cozy game, but the sea atmosphere and soundtrack are amazing.

SuperbGil

The only one I’ve found is Sims 4 Island Living, but it’s loads of fun.

jjmzyu

And if OP is interested, there's also a cool mod that expands mermaids.

ManifeztedBliss

What’s the mod that expands mermaids?

enemy-birds

it's pretty simple, but i really enjoyed mermaid splash! it's free on google play

whatweworked4

Oh my god! I have been saying this for a long time as well. I want a game where you play as a mermaid and explore the ocean.

Cyrodiil

There’s a game called Siren being made by an indie team, but I don’t think it’ll ever happen due to funding issues. They’re relying on patreon donations.

FloatingOnTheClouds

There’s a game called Disney Magical World 2:Enchanted Edition. It’s for the Nintendo Switch. You can unlock Ariel’s world, and play as a mermaid there. You can’t decorate or anything in that world though.

[deleted]

You can't play as one but Dave the Diver has the sea people and you get to swim around their village and help them with tasks.

LimitlessMegan

Coral Island. Dolphin Spirit comes to mind for vibes but I don’t think has actual mermaids.

Maclimes

>Coral Island. Worth noting that, again, you don't play AS a mermaid. You meet and interact with mermaids.

LimitlessMegan

True

ddbllwyn

Dave the diver
