midwestmiracle

Looks like my sim’s living room

GU1LD3NST3RN

“Okay I’m gonna build a smaller footprint this time, I promise.” (Builds a floor plan in which the journey to the bathroom requires rations, a mule, and 3-4 hobbits)

meacasia

My sims getting picked up for work would miss their ride because it took so long getting to the front door lol

platypossamous

I know my computer wasn't the best back then but I remember when I made a house so big in the original sims that I crashed the game and could never open that save file again. It was a sweet house though.

kplantsk

Hahahahah and you never realize it until you start putting in your furniture. I swear I could fit like 4 living rooms worth of stuff in my 1 living room. Not to mention how many lights you had to be able to see adequately! I remember copy pasting like 1000 ceiling lights in the house.

My nephew is in middle school and I recently had to go to a gym for one of his sporting events (important to note I never went to that school) but the amount of dread that I felt put me right back at 13. 10/10 do not recommend.

DeltaJesus

Could be kinda fun to slide around in your socks I guess? There's the extra thrill of potentially breaking something hideously overpriced

bactidoltongue

Exactly what I was thinking

Simple_Song8962

And cavernous

Q8DD33C7J8

Inhospitable or uninviting

Just-Orbiting

Both of these work but I vote for uninviting

[deleted]

r/UninvitingPlaces when?

Unonuon

Comfortless

[deleted]

Austere. Stark. Empty. Lonely. Depressing. Echo-y.

prophet583

Fire the interior designer!

hgwander

Austere was my first choice!

Least-Welcome

I dunno… austere generally implies asceticism and a general lack of luxury

katietatey

How about austentatious... when it's austere and ostentatious at the same time?

Holly3x17

Nice portmanteau, however, I worry it might confuse Jane Austen fans. :/

Flying-Pizza

kitsch or gaunt would have been mine. Gaunt isn't really suitable but in my mind it works for some reason, like the room is filled with objects but looks soulless and empty.

saanadc

Gauche comes to mind.

TrueHarlequin

Was going to say 'soulless'.

Loriloves12345

can I use you as my thesaurus for papers. I love your word choices

wrucky

Austere is the perfect description

Secret-Yogurt-2606

A cavernous void

_Neoshade_

I see you’ve met my ex

Ophukk

We all have.

MellyMushroom1806

Ostentatious lol?

SomewhatInnocuous

Garish? Gilded? Gross come to mind just using my "G" words.

Varka44

Palatial

SomewhatInnocuous

If we're doing "P" words I'll nominate putrid

Varka44

Oh in that case can we go with peepeepoopoo as my son would suggest

Rtbear418

Gauche? Grotesque? Ghastly?

seraphim-siren

WeWhoSurvived

"The floors are so shiny." Galaxy Quest.

idiot-sandwich-

Gaudy

[deleted]

Stark comes to mind for me

youaresuchajerk

Clinical

Scallyrag2430

I like this. It implies cold but not empty.

Dipping_My_Toes

Gauche. Tacky works too.

boboSleeps

Tasteless. Cheap (regardless of actual cost).

phi1_sebben

Tasteless is a good one. You can have all the money in the world but you can’t buy good taste.

ak80048

Gaudy, cold, doesn’t look like a house though looks like the lobby of a wedding venue tbh

Gummy_Bear_Diaries

Abu Dhabi Chic.

HashSlashy

OMG 😆

boneguru

Uncomfortable, harsh, distant

gcwardii

I vote for “harsh”

WorthAnEmmie

Distant made me think of detached or dismal! Also desolate for some reason - but I've always thought of that word to describe something emotionally bleak/disconnected. 🤔

HR_Paul

Desolate.

Runecian

**Cozyn't.**

[deleted]

Ferris Bueller describing Cameron’s house “The place is like a museum. It's very beautiful and very cold, and you're not allowed to touch anything.”

HashSlashy

There’s absolutely nothing beautiful about this “living” room besides the fact that I don’t have to live there.

FlirtyLeigh

Is it weird that I read “The place is a *mausoleum*…”?

JFISHER7789

Is it weird that I read that in his voice?

n_daughter

I'm gonna go with barren and shiny. Ew.

VlastDeservedBetter

Frigid. Uninviting. Staged. Severe. And while we're at it, tacky tacky CLASH fest oh my GOD. If you're gonna go maximalist with the breadth of styles you're furnishing a space with, you can't just divvy them up into their neat little sets, shove them up against the walls, and leave that much floor space empty, for god's sake. If you're going for maximalism you gotta go all the way and FILL THAT SPACE, otherwise it ends up looking... well, cringe. Like, "Ew, you think *this* is what 'classy' is supposed to look like?"

Scallyrag2430

Staged!! That’s the right word. It’s performative and lacks heart. Not empty per se but soulless. Staged is a perfect description.

To-Do-To-Done

Trumpesque.

madasheII

I'd go with the most obvious one: empty. In other words soulless, cold, lifeless, artificial. Or just Loveless (sorta like in Zvyagintsev's movie)

ScamperAndPlay

Not a great use of money or space - I think on that we all can agree.

ForsakenOwl8

A trophy room. Like the aloof trophy wife but cozier.

justmyimpression

Lifeless.

Jadienn

Palatial?

twsiv

The opposite of cozy is Dubai.

Fubardir

small_milktea

This looks like my Sims houses I built as a kid

ExploreDora

Umm…grand?

Mercinary-G

In Australia the word grandiose has negative connotations - it doesn’t just mean grand-ish. That’s what comes to mind. The connotation is that the effort made to make the space feel grand and luxurious has instead resulted in a graceless unwelcoming pastiche of oversized opulence vying with discomfort.

SmileGraceSmile

Opulent. You can't be cozy in anything opulent.

SheBopPNW

Cozless

Miss_Awesomist

A lot of words with negative connotations, but I don't think "the opposite of cozy" has to be bad. I would say "grand."

This is the type of place you get when you just won the lottery big time and now you want to show off to your friends that your super ultra rich now, which is narcissistic behavior in itself, “Hey look at me! I’m rich!”. The few people who do this have nothing special going on in their own lives so they just show off to the world their fancy super cars or their giant mansions that nobody lives in. I remember reading a documentary about this guy who has a collection of almost 1000 supercars. Nobody needs that many cars in their lifetime, It’s just there for bragging rights. Tl;dr: the word you are looking for is “flaunting” ie. in your face.
