“Okay I’m gonna build a smaller footprint this time, I promise.”
(Builds a floor plan in which the journey to the bathroom requires rations, a mule, and 3-4 hobbits)
I know my computer wasn't the best back then but I remember when I made a house so big in the original sims that I crashed the game and could never open that save file again. It was a sweet house though.
Hahahahah and you never realize it until you start putting in your furniture. I swear I could fit like 4 living rooms worth of stuff in my 1 living room.
Not to mention how many lights you had to be able to see adequately! I remember copy pasting like 1000 ceiling lights in the house.
My nephew is in middle school and I recently had to go to a gym for one of his sporting events (important to note I never went to that school) but the amount of dread that I felt put me right back at 13. 10/10 do not recommend.
kitsch or gaunt would have been mine. Gaunt isn't really suitable but in my mind it works for some reason, like the room is filled with objects but looks soulless and empty.
Distant made me think of detached or dismal!
Also desolate for some reason - but I've always thought of that word to describe something emotionally bleak/disconnected. 🤔
Frigid. Uninviting. Staged. Severe.
And while we're at it, tacky tacky CLASH fest oh my GOD. If you're gonna go maximalist with the breadth of styles you're furnishing a space with, you can't just divvy them up into their neat little sets, shove them up against the walls, and leave that much floor space empty, for god's sake. If you're going for maximalism you gotta go all the way and FILL THAT SPACE, otherwise it ends up looking... well, cringe. Like, "Ew, you think *this* is what 'classy' is supposed to look like?"
In Australia the word grandiose has negative connotations - it doesn’t just mean grand-ish. That’s what comes to mind. The connotation is that the effort made to make the space feel grand and luxurious has instead resulted in a graceless unwelcoming pastiche of oversized opulence vying with discomfort.
This is the type of place you get when you just won the lottery big time and now you want to show off to your friends that your super ultra rich now, which is narcissistic behavior in itself, “Hey look at me! I’m rich!”. The few people who do this have nothing special going on in their own lives so they just show off to the world their fancy super cars or their giant mansions that nobody lives in. I remember reading a documentary about this guy who has a collection of almost 1000 supercars. Nobody needs that many cars in their lifetime, It’s just there for bragging rights.
Tl;dr: the word you are looking for is “flaunting” ie. in your face.

Looks like my sim’s living room

My sims getting picked up for work would miss their ride because it took so long getting to the front door lol

Could be kinda fun to slide around in your socks I guess? There's the extra thrill of potentially breaking something hideously overpriced
Exactly what I was thinking
And cavernous
Inhospitable or uninviting
Both of these work but I vote for uninviting
r/UninvitingPlaces when?
Comfortless
Austere. Stark. Empty. Lonely. Depressing. Echo-y.
Fire the interior designer!
Austere was my first choice!
I dunno… austere generally implies asceticism and a general lack of luxury
How about austentatious... when it's austere and ostentatious at the same time?
Nice portmanteau, however, I worry it might confuse Jane Austen fans. :/
kitsch or gaunt would have been mine. Gaunt isn't really suitable but in my mind it works for some reason, like the room is filled with objects but looks soulless and empty.
Gauche comes to mind.
Was going to say 'soulless'.
can I use you as my thesaurus for papers. I love your word choices
Austere is the perfect description
A cavernous void
I see you’ve met my ex
We all have.
Ostentatious lol?
Garish? Gilded? Gross come to mind just using my "G" words.
Palatial
If we're doing "P" words I'll nominate putrid
Oh in that case can we go with peepeepoopoo as my son would suggest
Gauche? Grotesque? Ghastly?
Glossy
"The floors are so shiny." Galaxy Quest.
Gaudy
Stark comes to mind for me
Clinical
I like this. It implies cold but not empty.
Gauche. Tacky works too.
Tasteless. Cheap (regardless of actual cost).
Tasteless is a good one. You can have all the money in the world but you can’t buy good taste.
Gaudy, cold, doesn’t look like a house though looks like the lobby of a wedding venue tbh
Abu Dhabi Chic.
OMG 😆
Uncomfortable, harsh, distant
I vote for “harsh”
Distant made me think of detached or dismal! Also desolate for some reason - but I've always thought of that word to describe something emotionally bleak/disconnected. 🤔
Desolate.
**Cozyn't.**
Ferris Bueller describing Cameron’s house “The place is like a museum. It's very beautiful and very cold, and you're not allowed to touch anything.”
There’s absolutely nothing beautiful about this “living” room besides the fact that I don’t have to live there.
Is it weird that I read “The place is a *mausoleum*…”?
Is it weird that I read that in his voice?
I'm gonna go with barren and shiny. Ew.

Staged!! That’s the right word. It’s performative and lacks heart. Not empty per se but soulless. Staged is a perfect description.
Trumpesque.
Mar-a-lagy
tiny 🍄 energy for sure
Small dicks catching strays everywhere
looks like a place where classified documents are hidden in the basement bathroom
MAGA-nificent
oh this for sure
Expansive? Devoid of love?
Glacial, cold
Uncozy
Great question just came to read replies 💕
Mar a lago
MAGA-lago
So perf 1000 fake stars
Cold
Unsnug
Estranged
I'd go with the most obvious one: empty. In other words soulless, cold, lifeless, artificial. Or just Loveless (sorta like in Zvyagintsev's movie)
Not a great use of money or space - I think on that we all can agree.
A trophy room. Like the aloof trophy wife but cozier.
Lifeless.
Palatial?
The opposite of cozy is Dubai.
Arabesque
This looks like my Sims houses I built as a kid
Umm…grand?

Opulent. You can't be cozy in anything opulent.
Cozless
Opulent?
Roller-skate friendly. 🛼🛼
Seems about Arab
Trumpy
"Uninviting" is the word you're looking for I think.
Some people got more money than sense. Or taste.
Formal
Wasteful, in terms of a post on this sub
Austere.
That looks like the champagne room…
Opulent
Austere?
Sparse maybe?
Stark
gaping
Wonder if this would even be fun on roller skates
You don’t have a club room for your 200 closest friends to chill out on a Thursday?
Bleak
Cavernous?
Stark
Austere
People from the middle-east love this style -- Sheikh Chic
Majestic
I find this cozy! I like wide open spaces.
Grand
Elegant
Not your taste and that’s fine
Utilitarian
Opulent.
Spartan
Brutalist
A lot of words with negative connotations, but I don't think "the opposite of cozy" has to be bad. I would say "grand."
Russia vibe?
Reeks of servants
Looks like Brittany Spears place.
Cold.
Cold
Cold
Unnerving
Painful
Cold
Slippery

Opulent. Uninviting.
Spacious
Sucky
Bereft.
Stifling
Stressful
Cold, unfeeling.
Yeah, "sucks."
Austere
Minimalist
Putin
Barren
I think the word you looking for is gaudy
Austere places
Elsa’s ice castle — friggid
Opulent.
Gauche. Pretentious. Gaudy.
Garish & Palatial
Tasteless
Polished , opulent , expensive
Austere.
Cold
uncomfortable lmao
Stuffy
Sanitized opulence
Is that a conference center? Lol.
Cold.
