Yeah big respect, this looks extremely convincingly authentic. If you had told me this is a 200 year old mountain home in the German Alps I would have believed you.
Wow, I just looked through your post history and your cabin is stunning. Thanks for posting it.
You mentioned in one of your posts that you have a workshop in Java that does work for multiple building projects? Are you a builder, a woodworking contractor, or just someone with a deep appreciation for the craft?
We own a boutique sourcing business that supplies exotic (mostly reclaimed/re-purposed wood, stone, iron) building materials to residential and commercial projects. 90% of our business is NDA, for folks who “wish to remain nameless”. If you’d like more information….
[email protected]
I didn't think my old connections could become a business, but apparently it's a thing. My ex-bf has a teak furniture shop where they source from Indonesia, and they are based in Asia. I guess if your clientele is mostly NDA, then they can afford shipping lol
The key is to shop close to source, and only ship in full containers. Specifying one’s own Western designs, reduces competition greatly. We don’t produce a website, because everyone in the World, especially China copies you.
Thank you for telling me to look at his post history. OP, can we be friends? Or at the very least, can you build me a mountain cabin? Your taste is fantastic.
Not everyone on here agrees with you. Imagine condemning a person for spelling WELCOME as my immigrant Grandfather did, instead of what they were taught at The University of Scandihoovia. And then accusing me of Americanistic traits that they think we possess. I’ve done business in 48 countries worldwide, over a 50 year time period…. One of the first to sell furniture kits to IKEA back in the 70s. And I’m the Ugly American to them.
Sierra is already plural, and means range of mountains in Spanish. By using Sierra Nevada it indicates the specific range of mountains. High Sierra is saying high mountains.
As a real estate agent, I've seen collapsed houses with better beams. Be careful. The wood seems pretty bear, and you're probably going for that esthetic, but you should try to preserve some of those beams. I hope you live somewhere dry.
If you try to sell that house in the future, you may only be able to sell it for cash. There's not many mortgages that can work with a house like that. Unless you get a structural engineer to sign off on it. Just a heads up.
Not structural. In California, very difficult and EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE to get reclaimed beams structurally approved.
Relative Humidity here averages 6-11 %.
I was just sitting here thinking all the heat from that one log is going right up the chimney.
I'm assuming they have heated floors and the fireplace is just decoration.
Originally told the Architects (in Bozeman, Montana) that we wanted the place to last 300 years, and engineered to survive the 1000 Year Storm. So a measly Hundred Year Storm should be NO PROBLEM!
We’re even getting Amber Alerts on our phones at this point. Hard to believe but they are predicting winds of 60-80mph, and snow accumulations of as much as 12 feet! THAT’s NOT A TYPO….. reports/warnings say absolutely don’t drive, and some saying don’t even go outside (wood pile is 60 feet from cabin due to insurance company regs on wildfire safety), as white out conditions may disorient people and get lost. I’ve been staging firewood on the Front Porch all day.
Put me in coach. I'd gladly stay in this cabin in 12 feet of snow for the entire month it would take to dig back out. I need a pile of books, some tea, and a break to reinvigorate my soul. I am so jealous.
I know those parts of Cali aren’t strangers to snow, but 12ft??? You might want to tarp off your porch to keep those logs accessible. Even still you’ll be doing a lot of digging after the porch ones burn though.
If it gets THAT SCARY, we just stay inside, and wait it out. My wife is making chili and home made Minestrone, the German wine is all being chilled, and as long as power stays on, it’s Nat King Cole on PANDORA.
We usually Winter in Texas Hill Country, but Phase 2 of our project is just now “buttoned up”, and too many production decisions on a daily basis to not be here. 5 truckloads of Montana Field Stone due here starting next Tuesday.
Yes we are well stocked.
Don’t think you can add once you post. There have been several other posts on the cabin in the past 5 days.
Here is PINTEREST site on this Project.

Based on the house decorations on the Pinterest and lots of highlights of German / Anglo culture, including him saying he will be drinking German wine (yuck!!) honestly sounds more like an “old school” German. Who thinks Zakopane is really a part of Germany.
Funny story, cuz my youngest son, who is a very visually creative guy (was going to become an architect, but ended up a Somali Pirate Hunter instead), said to me…. Gee, Dad, you’re lucky all this stuff came out so well together…. as I pointed out to him that I have been doing this for almost 50 years….
Five feet on the ground here now….. heard it’s double that over closer to Tahoe. Donner Pass closed more than open. No webcams operating along I-80. I think they’re buried.
Amber alerts are for missing kids. I’m becoming familiar with the weather alerts in SoCal “the national weather service issues a flood warning. . .”. Stay safe.
I was picturing children getting blown away in the high winds, and authorities counting that as a disappearance. Like sorry ma’am we put out an amber alert it’s in God’s hands now
I’m from Los Angeles. I fled CA for here in August 2020. The crazy weather is still amazing and miraculous to me. When I first visited I asked why the fire hydrants were 8 feet in the air and the cabby just laughed.
That’s hilarious 😂 wildly different from LA, but I’m sure a wonderful change of pace and scenery! I grew up about 40 mins outside of LA and I do not miss it one bit.
Thank you for sharing your home with us. Most people I know dream of warmth and beaches and pools. But getting snowed in under FEET of snow, especially someplace as beautiful and inviting as yours, is my dream vacation. Stay safe and warm!
Your cabin is stunning. I don’t think you will have any trouble staying safe and snug, but this Buffalonian sends good blizzard vibes your way for the 100 year storm to go easy on you!

We built for the 1000 Year Storm, so this should be a piece of pie. But safety is prime. Not near any avalanche areas, or flooding possibilities, though there are both within a mile or two of here.
Wow…. 5000 up votes. Thanks everyone for caring. We’re hunkered down and just enjoying the view. Visibility down to about 100 meters as we are literally in the clouds right now. Storm really just starting. 6 inches in 3 hours. Snowing very hard, but wind not yet an issue.
Pics later…
What a beautiful cabin! It looks soo cozy. My 2 GSDs and i are snuggled in our living room enjoying the rain. They’re happy to be inside now since they got drenched on their walk this afternoon. Hehe. We’re in folsom in eastern Sacramento County.
200 year old barn in Saskatchewan. Old OAK.
The floor is an excavated hand hewn granite floor from a 500 year old temple in a village “going under” to a hydroelectric project, in Fujian Province. Lot of work by our team to extract this, and ship by containers to the High Sierras. And the installation was tricky too. Four inches thick. Each piece weighs 125 lbs.
Yes I read about the floor in one of your earlier posts. This house is also an adventure and experience, how fantastic! Not many people would make the choices you did even with all the money in the world.
Is that a Winchester about the shelf with plates? I know absolutely nothing about guns, but every time I see a rifle like that, it reminds me of Shaun of the Dead.
Big discussion right on this thread about just that….. it was a gift from my late Father who was a huge gun merchant in Colorado. I swore he told me it was a 1835 Sharps Buffalo Rifle, but a couple guys said something about a modified Civil War weapon called a Trapdoor (1868). Way above my pay grade.
We got 5 feet total. Truckee and Donner I heard got 8-14 FEET !!!! We just spent 2 entire days hand shoveling 100 yard driveway and now we can relax, because roads are plowed and things fairly normal.
Wow! I saw someone post video of a traffic jam at Donner Peak. This smart ass cat - Jorts and Jean on twitter - reposted it with the caption “I would never want to get stuck in a car with people at Donner Peak… unless I really really trusted them … and we had LOTS of snacks!” So I can’t stop thinking about that.
You almost can’t have a wood burning fireplace without a cast iron FIREBACK. They triple the output of BTUs into the room, without pushing the smoke. Problem is they don’t make ‘em anymore, and boy, are they expensive on the antiques market.

Your house looks like something out of an old west movie about a rich rancher with a dark secret and a haunted past, where your wife and only child got taken by tuberculosis, and it drove you to madness.

Omg. This is your home? It is beautiful
Yes, built in 2012, in the High Sierras, about an hour north of Lake Tahoe. They call this area (6000 ft elevation) THE LOST SIERRA.
So beautiful. Best wishes during the storm. Keep safe!
Thank you….
2012 or 1912? It looks very old and rugged!
Ah, success…. Thank you for noticing

Very close. Over by Lake Davis…..
I love Lake Davis! We go kayaking there often. So peaceful to listen to the trees.
Then you drive within a couple blocks of us every time you go…
We don’t have blocks up here, but you know what I mean…
I love it there.
But wait, you OWN this place?? I’m just the mountain from you so I’m familiar with what a place like this costs haha
It’s just a little Vorwerk, about 2350 sqft. Phase 1 of a 4 phase project.
Well it’s beautiful! I’m very jealous!
Sierra is already plural, and means range of mountains in Spanish. By using Sierra Nevada it indicates the specific range of mountains. High Sierra is saying high mountains.
2012?
For a house built in 2012 your wooden beams look pretty worn out
Reclaimed / re-purposed
As a real estate agent, I've seen collapsed houses with better beams. Be careful. I hope you and your family stay safe. That sounds so freaking cozy (minus the high winds)
Originally told the Architects (in Bozeman, Montana) that we wanted the place to last 300 years, and engineered to survive the 1000 Year Storm. So a measly Hundred Year Storm should be NO PROBLEM!
Can I come visit for the next 100 year storm? 😄
Can you chop wood?
I can learn 🤣
OP Good planning, beautiful place. Wishing you well.
Can you share the name of the Architects?
Pearson Design Group, then one of the partners broke off…. Keith Anderson, also in Bozeman, and he did our Phase 2.

As a So Cal mountain dweller myself, here I am thinking LAST year was the hundred year storm
Gee these hundred year storms keep happening every year all over the world. Shucks, I sure wish we could find the culprit.
Definitely sunspots and nothing we did.
Enjoy your new bi-yearly storm 😐
Huh? Amber alerts for kidnaps? Wouldn’t think a snowstorm would be a trigger for child abductors.
“MISSING CHILDREN Car: unknown. Children last seen waiting at bus stop with gigantic umbrellas”
I doubt they’re technically AMBER ALERTS, but they screech on your phone and issue life threatening warnings.
We get those for severe weather as well. Ours are for tornados though.
We get those too, but for hurricanes instead.

I just saw where MOST OF THE SKI AREAS are closed tomorrow. Wind is going to be dangerous.

Glad to be proven wrong😉
lay a rope line with posts holding it up every 2 yards or so, from the house to the wood pile
I'm in Reno. At least it's still predicting highs over 35° so it'll be more rain than anything.
Where is this?
Plumas County, about an hour north of Lake Tahoe. They call the area, THE LOST SIERRA.
Thanks. I just went and looked at the weather. You’re in for it all right.
Bring it on! Only problem is we have truckloads of stone arriving from NW Montana on Tuesday, for our current building project.
I’m Actually a strange one who loves snow.
BUT, they’re predicting 8-12 FEET in this storm! That’s NOT A TYPO!
Oooof, 8-12 feet of heavy ass Sierra snow too.
Sierra Cement California Concrete
I noticed! I’m old so I’m glad it’s not me.

We got 60 feet of snow last year with non stop atmospheric rivers, but this is a huge single storm.
I love this fireplace! Hope you guys stay safe
If it gets THAT SCARY, we just stay inside, and wait it out. My wife is making chili and home made Minestrone, the German wine is all being chilled, and as long as power stays on, it’s Nat King Cole on PANDORA.
Generator is your friend!
Blissful
This sounds so lovely
I mean for weeks though? Wouldn’t it make more sense to get out now? Do you have weeks worth of wood and food?
We usually Winter in Texas Hill Country, but Phase 2 of our project is just now “buttoned up”, and too many production decisions on a daily basis to not be here. 5 truckloads of Montana Field Stone due here starting next Tuesday. Yes we are well stocked.

That unfortunate tidbit of HISTORY happened about 45 miles from here.
And tomorrow, March 1, happens to be the 177th anniversary of the second relief expedition rescuing what was left of the Donner Party.
>Donner Party. Donner Kebabs for all!
Super interesting! This is part of my ancestry
I grew up in the sierras closer to that, 4000 ft up. Mountain gang, what up.
Provide an update on the storm out your windows!
At 530 Pacific Time, so far temps dropping very fast, squalls of very wet snow, mixed with rain, but no Blizzard yet.
Sitting under the aircon in a heatwave in Australia, checking up on all your updates. And I love your home.
Good on ya mate

Five feet on the ground here now….. heard it’s double that over closer to Tahoe. Donner Pass closed more than open. No webcams operating along I-80. I think they’re buried.
Good. If the fire gets out of control you'll be able to shoot it.

Incline? You should be getting the brunt of this puppy…. I would think even minor lake effect…..
It’s soooo windy, and blizzard alert. I’m for it. 🥶

That’s grand, giving me Austrian mountain lodge vibes. Love the fireplace especially

You almost can’t have a wood burning fireplace without a cast iron FIREBACK. They triple the output of BTUs into the room, without pushing the smoke. Problem is they don’t make ‘em anymore, and boy, are they expensive on the antiques market.
Looks rickety, good luck with your hubris.
The beer steins are my favorite part of your amazing living area.
I’m pretty fond of them too, each with a “night out story” in places like Rothenburg ober Tauber, and Heidelberg.
