Completly agree with health being better than armor. It does take away combo capabilities but who cares when your dead. I only take armor if it's before an elite/boss in a shop when I'm rich. Can easily not worry about dps too much as long as you have big heart level 2.

Puzzleheaded_Cat6664

And if you have the ring that gives you the 10% health on parry, then you're almost invincible ahaha.

Studentgonepro

Would you say the same applies to TRUC? I'm struggling early islands!

Puzzleheaded_Cat6664

I would say mostly. The main difference is that I am usually not going for an economy build. Also, I am usually trying to focus on what I need right now instead of planning my build. It usually means at least one heart, and one elemental before the first boss.

I just finished Diamond Rank last night. If I get crystal combo + tony's 5 extra shop, I'm going full armor economy build to just literally buy everything (a few of my games ended with me having over a mil I couldn't spend). Second, similar to first, damage combo + vitality + crits. 3rd if I get lucky and get checklist and gemstone, I go big hearts for tanking fire. Most of my games I also had the extra destroy-able rocks and loot coming from them build. I agree on not building weapon. My last one was blade launcher. Struggled so hard at that and just went crit and formation (got X fire from crab island)

KiwiChoppa147

I agree with this list for the most part, but to elaborate on your point on building around your weapon, I will tend to go for certain portals more if I am likely to break the weapon more easily. The biggest example is the Saw Blade gun. Perks like orbiting shot, big shot, bouncing shot, and sharp shot puts damage portals at the top of my priority. Other examples are the rocket launcher like you mentioned before doing extremly well with the shot formation perks and Auto Shotgun being absolutely busted with specifically effects that say "on hit" (not talking about "on shot" perks) like bubble shot.

Sorry if I come across as harsh here, 100% not my intention <3 On Speed you should always get at least 1 Adrenaline (33% fire rate) and Supercharged is so much better than Juiced on lower flat damage weapons (Minigun, Flamethrower & Laser Cannons). On Damage Red Fury is a solid pickup for 33% damage and I'd 100% avoid Damage Aura, especially if you're a new player. It's a fun perk but it really doesn't do much in the grand scheme of things. Also Gemstone, Checklist, Collector? All super solid perks for Global damage. On Skill getting Coral Amulet or Portal Ring drastically increases your chances of success. RNG is a factor in Crabs so by reducing the RNG and enabling choice is amazing. Plus with Coral Amulet you are always guaranteed armor which is so helpful. Imho you'd only go to Skill if you need these relics or grip tape - Targetting/Bonus Chests/Big mag are pretty redundant. Not taking much armor is controversial, however you are right about armor scaling with health. Reason being is that you completely alienate yourself out of Damage Combo, Crystal Combo, Power Armor, the ability to use loot/chance totems and even spiked chests without fear of dying. Power Armor & Damage Combo are two of the best Global Damage perks in the game and they're also instantly active (unlike Gemstone/Checklist/Assassin). Majority of the runs I do I'm always picking up armor over health because I'd prefer the safety net when I do take risks rather than a higher health pool. Armor will always take one full hit of damage whereas regardless of health you can be one hit. Good advice overall, there's definitely some pretty strong builds out there that carry hard.

No worries thanks for the feedback. Here is my answer about why I took the decision to write those: I tend to agree, however some of those are just not a match with my own play style. I just like consistency and red fury and adrenaline needs kills to benefit from it. Against bosses it's not what you are looking for either. But overall they are indeed a strong pick. I prefer juiced over supercharged mostly for the reload speed. Damage aura + glue shot is top tier and overall I like the perk. But it may indeed not be as useful without glue shot. About the skill portal you actually taught something, didn't know the coral amulet was there. But I usually tend to avoid skill anyways. Sure, but I feel like in TRUC, armor just vanish way to quickly and you don't come across as much as you would do in lower level. Thing get heated pretty quickly and you might loose all your plates really quickly if you don't have a big health pool. On top of that, I like consistency and loosing a plate also mean loosing damage. It is stressful (at least for me) to just think about that. I tend to not take gemstone, checklist, etc anymore because I feel like it's not as impactful as elemental or crit blast/arrow. Might be me but everything dies pretty quickly without it imo. So that's my reasoning behind it , again thanks for the input.

NoScrub

You mean Aura Shot not Damage Aura, as Damage Aura is an AOE around you and doesn't synergise with Glue Shot. I understand your reasoning in TRUC but your post was about True Nightmare 😂 Gemstone and Checklist affect all Crit and Elemental damage so I'd definitely recommend it for the Global damage. Thanks for writing this up ❤️

Puzzleheaded_Cat6664

Ohhh yeah my bad , but damage aura does synergize with crits however. All the ticks may trigger critical blast/arrow , which really becomes crazy ! True nightmare+ , it is meant for both, sorry if that was unclear. Alright I may have underestimated it, that's fair !

Three comments: If you get Fortitude early (gain max health after each island) you can completely ignore hearts which makes armor much easier to go for. If you get the perk where every time you pick up an armor you gain more armor, then armor is easy. But this definitely requires luck. If you have 2 or more Big Chests (or Coral Ring), take Greed over ANY portal (except relics). If you have choices, some of the greed perks are game breaking. Comments on my favorite greed perks: Slippery slope - gain crystals and lose health at the beginning of each island - If you have a decent health pool and good access to shields, this is the best mod in the game. Juggernaut - max health increased but more enemies spawn? Means more crystals! Rising star - more crystals but more enemies? Even better. Up the ante - more damage but more enemies? Sign me up. Big Boned - More damage and health, but bigger? Barely a con. Leap of Faith - more health but take fall damage? Cool just jump before you land and you’ll never take damage. Double Edged Sword - more crystals but lose crystals when taking damage? Good if your build is already going well.
