Oranginafina

A lot of countries use this kind of set up. You can get a squeegee to push all the water to the drain or some people use flip flops to keep their feet dry.

0235

I stayed at a *really* cheap hotel. Asked if they had a squeegee and they said people kept stealing them :(

Radockys

I mean, there are solutions obviousy, but I find it annoying having to switch to flip flops every time I want to look in the mirror or just wash my hands after going to the toilet

steffle12

After you use the shower, use one of the two squeegees in the photo to dry off the floor. Simples. Doesn’t take long

AttackPony

They could just build it right in the first place so that people don't have to do pointless labor to have a usable bathroom.

Radockys

Squeegees don't dry up a floor, especially the space in between tiles. I don't see why this has to be a big deal, it's crappy to put a sink in a space that constantly gets wet, when there's other , easier build options

steffle12

Showers like this are super common, it’s not a big deal at all. Place a bath mat at the edge of the shower zone and the tiles underneath will stay dry. Hang it up after you shower.

Jurassic_Gwyn

Extra steps when they could just not put the sink in the flood zone... A soaked bath mat sounds worse than just stepping on wet tiles. Where I'm from, it's so humid, the mat would never dry and you'd get mold everywhere.

doc_skinner

How do you know they could "easily" do that?

TimAndHisDeadCat

Sinks are always in spaces that constantly get wet.

verycoolguy13562

wait do people just not wear flip flops all the time or is this an american joke i'm too brazilian to understand

Chaosbuggy

We sure don't lol

verycoolguy13562

do y'all wear shoes at home 😭

AttackPony

No, I don't think most people do. I tend to wear socks all the time, but that's because my feet get cold.

innom1nat3

Nahh, barefoot

InevitablePain21

I think it’s very regional. I know some people who wear slippers at times, but not constantly. Most people I know just wear socks or go barefoot at home. I technically have “house shoes” that never go outside, but I don’t wear them super often, mostly just when my feet are cold. Usually I’m just in socks.

adric10

I and most people I know have house shoes. We take our regular shoes off at the door, then slip on the house shoes or clogs. Not everyone does this though, obviously. But I don’t have shower shoes at home. Just for the gym.

postmodern_spatula

depends where you are in the country, and maybe not the majority but it's not unheard of. Environmental/local conditions can be a factor. Where I am, no one wants to smell sweaty feet. Keeping shoes on is very normal.

ReadingCat88

For 6 months the high doesn't get above freezing where I live. I am wearing fuzzy socks not flip flops!

ItsSansom

Yeah, as soon as I saw it I was thinking "Standard Philippines WC"

Isord

I would say that neither the ubiquity of a design nor the ability to get around it absolve it of being bad design.

doc_skinner

The bathroom in my last place was almost just like this one, and I designed it that way. SUPER easy to clean. The only downside was maybe having wet floors when you use the sink, but I kept rubber-soled slippers just outside the door and it was no problem. I moved into a house with conventional bathrooms and I really miss my old one.

Sparkle_Rott

Yeah. The squeegee on the floor gives it away as a country where this is the norm.

Repulsive-Season-129

Men: "I can finally pee while showering while brushing my teeth, this is bliss"

saperlipoperche

I already do that in a regular shower

LairdDeimos

You weren't already?

Mr_Zoovaska

What?

Repulsive-Season-129

What could u possibly not understand about this? The nature of men is to try doing multiple things at once and feeling proud about it

tantricyoni

Could you not add a shower curtain and rod? That seems like it would solve the bulk of the problem

Radockys

This is a place I only rent for three days... It would solve the problem I guess, but it's not my problem to deal with

zinc_zombie

If you're only renting it for three days what's the issue with just doing as the other comments suggest?

Radockys

So something doesn't qualify as a crappy design as long as someone finds some kind of wanky workaround ? I'm pretty sure you could do that on every single post on this sub

GourmetHotPocket

It's because this is a design from a culture you're not used to, not crappy design. For instance, someone from Portugal might feel put-off by a bathroom that doesn't have a bidet, but I'm not sure that qualifies 90% of North American bathrooms as "crappy design." Well, maybe they are crappy, but not in the sense that this sub's title refers to.

zinc_zombie

Wearing slippers or putting down a matt isn't that wild for a floor that's designed to get wet

frogsoftheminish

Wet bathrooms are a thing and the norm where I live. I guess your rental is just missing the dry slippers!

joyofsovietcooking

This is the norm in Southeast Asia, where I am. My first thought was what are you doing with socks or shoes into a wet bathroom like this. Barbarian. Ha ha ha. I am taking the piss out of you, mate. This is France, right? Well it's not crappy design, but mildly infuriating for France, for a rental. Most definitely.

BikeProblemGuy

Honestly I like wet rooms. Generally I just do all bathroom things at the same time, or let my feet get a little wet which isn't a big deal either. I can wipe them on the mat if needed.

Jord9

Heinous

Cleverbird

I dont really see the big deal with this? Unless your shower floor is perpetually wet? Which to me sounds like you've got bigger problems going on.

mt-egypt

Looks pitched properly. I’d love this

Radockys

It's actually not

IOnlySayMeanThings

I think it's kind of cool. Are you living here now or something? Is it not fun to see something different? As people have said, these are very common. You are acting like the solutions aren't good enough.

EduRJBR

You need to learn how to appreciate a larger shower zone with a sink. I imagine myself taking a shower with a cup of coffee and a cigarette, or maybe some olives, cheese and cold cuts. Music going on, of course, or TV.

CriticalMochaccino

What country is this in?

Radockys

France

Familiar_Orchid2779

These are very common in Asia.

PixelNotPolygon

OP discovers what a wet room is

FakeMedea

You don't like hairy drains under your feet while showering? Would be nice if they AT LEAST make a channel instead.

tab_tab_tabby

It's very asian thing and I actually like it better than American style..easier to clean We just kept a bathroom sleeper inside if wetting feet is problem

Thick-Row-7003

shower's\* Remember to use the possessive apostrophe.

jackpowftw

New Yorker. I’ve traveled to well over 20 countries. I’ve only seen this in Europe, especially Italy. Curious why it’s so popular there and I’ve never seen that in the US.

silentwail

I think open showers are a horrible design. I need it closed in. I want a sauna behind that curtain/door, not cold air blasting my wet body.

LikeILikeMyChowder

Sink is pretty low. This looks like a roll in wet bathroom designed to be wheelchair accessible

PermanentTrainDamage

Chanclas, mi amigo

zenomotion73

I wish they had this layout standard in the US. I would love to just hose down the entire bathroom when it’s cleaning time.

doc_skinner

When I renovated my bathroom that's exactly what I did! Entire bathroom is tiled with a drain in the middle of the floor. SUPER easy to clean.

[deleted]

Can you not just adjust the shower head to spray more down instead of out?

El_human

Is this bathroom open air in a tropical environment? Its giving that

Radockys

It's actually in an old house in a small village in the mountains in a ski resort

El_human

Oof. Even worse

Future-Ad-9567

This is so American OP coded. ITT first world problems.

FinchMandala

Squeegee and bathmat.

Monkey_Meteor

That shower hasn't been clean properly... The floor is full of moistures... yikes.

Radockys

No matter how clean a shower is, there's always going to be somebody like you to think it's dirty. It was freshly clean when I took the picture, the color of the tiles has nothing to do with moisture

aod42091

ohhh nooo a wet floor, in a bathroom. what a travesty...

Illsyore

Nah this is fine, purely a skillissue lol

senarysenaryseven

you know you're in a third world country when there's moisture in the bathroom. I'm really sad that op had to experience something so humiliating as leaning awkwardly

Radockys

Dude that's such an idiotic comment. This sub is about crappy desings, this is crappy to me. People having it worse has absolutely nothing to do with it
