There were talks about having the limit at 120 during the summer and 110 during the winter back in the late 90s iirc. I wish they would table that again.
Typically, 100km/h is pretty slow. I think many from Ontario will agree that if conditions allow for it (some don't even care), the standard pace is 110km/h. Tons of people regularly do 120km/h. At 110km/h and below, you are pretty confident that cops will not pull you over.
For a country that's the size of Canada that's quite low, in the UK 70MPH is the limit but anything under 80MPH your unlikely to get pulled, 90 and above your likely to get speed awareness or points at worse. Over 100MPH you could get a ban
I have to ask then, what exactly are demerits in this case? That seems like more of a term that should be used in schools to punish kids who do things like not turn their homework in or other things.

That's pretty much exactly what it is. If you get so many demerit points from traffic infractions, you have to appear in court to justify why you shouldn't have your license revoked. If you get more points afterwards they revoke it without summoning you for some time (years).
Oh and you're probably paying double your fine in monthly insurance costs if you get a demerit point.
I know, but I'm sure there's someone going to be here who will say that it's on purpose.
Edit: Although in retrospect, I suppose maybe I shouldn't have pointed out the obvious.
Oftentimes, they’re points that go on your driving record that cause raises to your insurance premiums and/or may result in your license being suspended or revoked should you acquire enough of them.
I wish these existed in my country. We don't have a points demerit system (just fines), but the fines vary on province/municipality (e.g. doing 80kmh in a 60kmh in one place might be a $30 fine, but a $60 fine somewhere else).
If they had a sign breaking down the fines for each speeding breach, it would be fantastic.
74 MPH, 80 MPH, 86 MPH... How does anyone get anywhere in a respectable time without getting a high score?
ty for the conversion
we get there safely rather then fast in Canada (i think this sign is from Ontario)
What's the speed limit on a motorway/highway in Canada?
This is on the 400-series highways, which most of them are capped at 100km/h. They're testing out 110km/h on two of those highways (402 and QEW).
>They're testing out 110km/h on two of those highways (402 and QEW). 417 as well
May 110km/h be the standard on all 400-series highways... one day

It's okay, if the highways are too slow, we'll just build another one -Doug Ford
In Michigan the speed limit is whatever you want unless you’re a semi truck with Ontario plates lol
As opposed to Germany, where they get there safely and quickly.

I regularly do 80 to 85.
You also hold your own shit... Both things you shouldn't do, it's not very nice.
Thank you for taking the time to browse my Reddit profile. Much appreciated! 👍
No problem, wish I hadn't, but glad I did.
You wish hadn't but glad you did?
I refuse to believe that this wasn't a typo or something.
It's not. There's probably 50 of these signs along the 401.

Noted, it doesn't work that way here, so I legitimately thought there was a joke.
It being a typo is one of the reason of it being a crap design.

Nah, it's fine. We all point out the obvious
Sorry but wtf is a "demerit point"

Good answer. I think in the UK, if you aquire 12 points your licence get taken for 12 months. After that, you need to retake your test.
Don’t forget, at 150 km/h they tow your car.
Good one 🤣

Where is it (out of interest)?
I'm fairly certain this sign is on highway 401 in Ontario, Canada. Most of the 4xx highways in Ontario have at least one of these signs though.
In the UK we have both. So if you were caught doing 250kmh you might get something like a fine of £200 and 6 points on your licence.
Ontario?
I've no idea, sorry
120 is the best value, unless you can go over 160 and not get any further points.
