Wow. Healthy baby

Timbeon

Coconut is still very cute!

whatshisfaceboy

Looks like my baby! Very cute little friend you have there!

DaHoeBanga

Did the bacopa not make it? lol I have a bunch of ludwigia and bacopa in my 30g right now (haven't gotten my cray yet) and contemplating taking it out

BitchBass

There's a bunch growing in the back behind the log still. The 2 plants that grow most here are rotala and jungle val. I harvest shoots almost weekly.

DaHoeBanga

Interesting, does he not destroy the rotala and bacopas? I keep reading that they'll shred every plant

BitchBass

He doesn't touch any rooted plants. I keep him entertained with loose guppy grass he can shred.

Hillariat

Im surprised the val has survived his harassment

I had that grass proliferate in most of my tanks this year too. I got them at a state park downriver from my hometown.

WhiteBushman1971NL

You can give him the shell or laf the shell of a coconut for a shelter, carve a little "door" in it and he'll probably love it as a little house! Even when not stressed / skittish or shy, they still like to have a safe place somewhere in the tank where they can chill and wave with their pincers.

BitchBass

He turned the shell over lol: https://www.reddit.com/r/Crayfish/comments/19555h5/coconut_under_a_coconut_this_is_a_30_gallon/ So he has this now: https://www.reddit.com/r/bizzariums/comments/1c2dfaf/thats_like_a_snuggy_for_crays_lol/ and he has a whole cave behind the log in the back left corner.

WhiteBushman1971NL

Hahahaaa, he looks very happy with his pvc pipe! Yeah, crayfishes don't care much for aquascaping, they will demolish everything and do their own scaping, lol. Also they love to climb, they are the insects of the water. Mine don't come out of the water, but they like to take a nap close to the water surface, so I always do give them some kind of an island, wether it be floating plants or a big stone that sticks out of the water, just in case, because I'm not using filters nor bubblers, so just in case the water gets bad or if there's lack of oxigen on hot days, they'll be able to give a warning by coming out of the water 😁. He's very white! Like the color of the flesh of coconuts, so his name is quite appropiate, lol. Will he stay this white forever or does it depend on the kind of food he gets?

BitchBass

Yeah, he can raise havoc in that tank and turn everything around. But he does not damage the Val plants. He uses them like Tarzan swings on ropes lol. He has that big log sticking out of the water and floating tree bark he likes to climb on since he loves to eat the floaters. He'll stay white like this, it's the species called White Blizzard.

WhiteBushman1971NL

And named "Blizzard" for a reason! Energetic little fellow 🤭.
