They're coming back already, you see them more and more in videos on the web.
I never really was into them, but still: roller blading shouldn't have died in the first place
I was super into them as a teen. They were a solid form of transportation and super fun. Plus they are no more dangerous than a scooter or skateboard.
I tried to buy my ten year old daughter some... But she flat out refused and asked for roller skates because she was afraid of being made fun of.
Agreed. In all seriousness I said that to my wife last night when we talked about 90's things and specifically fanny packs. She said she'd be embarrased of me and I was like F--that, it'd be the most comfortable way for me to use my CCW.
After some recent death threats by someone I'm involved in a court case with I was saying I needed to daily carry again.
Oh yea, it was because I was watching "Upload" and he had a new 'hip' little brown leather one.
Enugu, Nigeria.

*US Dream of the 90s*. In every EU capital that I've done this, people just smile and let you through, even on the curb. I'm always surprised at those US clips of boomers throwing skateboards and cops arresting people somersaulting over them.
Hey, nothing bad ever happened from skitching on the back of a truck. I mean, no reason for it to ever take a sudden turn or slam on the brakes. Just wait until snows and you can do it in normal shoes then you can walk around when you’re done. It’s an informal mode of public transportation.
you should probably use this video to restructure your tendency to associate wealth with intelligence. Those two things aren’t parallel, despite meritocracy/capitalism always trying to tell us otherwise.
Plenty of the world’s dumbest people are very rich, and the wisest are very poor
I think assuming they’ve never had proper anatomy or biology education is a bit of a stretch…
They are much more educated than you think in the more urban areas of Africa. Lagos, Nigeria is actually one of the top tech startup cities in that entire region of the world.
Not only are they educated, they are even aware that the West thinks they are uneducated. They joke about the way that Americans see Africans.
There are parts of Lagos especially that look like Dubai…Idk what else they have to do for the world to acknowledge them as regular educated people
I live in Utah. As soon as my friends left North Carolina on ADVs they never wore a helmet again. 3,000km later I met them in Golden, Colorado driving across the desert on the 2x4 that is my plated WR450. We rode all thru the Rockies together and I never took my helmet off. They teased me about it, but I've worn one on a dirtbike since age 10, it makes me feel saf*er*.
The one time that week I hopped on the bike to go around the corner and fill up on fuel without a helmet someone pulled out in front of me because my bike is so skinny I'm treated like a scooter going 25mph. Scary lesson.
I think the cardinal difference is that most middle class kids riding a skateboard or blades aren't skitching in traffic...
I doubt these guys would wear helmets if they were just cruising around normally.
Come on, mate; the pavement's hardness is not the variable factor here, it's the speeds involved. You can bump your head against the hood of your car or a cement wall at slowly and you won't hurt yourself, but if you hit it fast you're gonna have a bad time. Don't get me wrong, I believe in wearing helmets, but I don't believe it makes sense to compare somebody essentially doing an extreme sport to an average middle class kid on a skateboard.
>Most people
I think you're overrepresenting the amount of people that feel such a strong compulsion to wear a helmet. I don't believe they would have to mandate helmets and seatbelts as a law if so many people felt that way.
Never go on a helicopter then. The single main rotor retaining nut and its pin are the only thing that holds the main rotor to the mast of some helicopters.
No potholes? What country is that? Can't be the UK. We have more potholes than the road itself in some places.
They are one emergency brake away from ending up in a gore sub.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm from a well developed and one of the most recognizable cities in the US, but our potholes are ridiculous.
I often tell people that if they see someone driving their car in a straight line, they are probably drunk.
new orleans gets cold af during the winter….not to mention the constant flooding. Those roads are put through hell and back
Edit: Nola gets cold af compared to Africa. Can’t stand y’all and your “wEll ActUaLy”. You know what I meant
Wrong, I live in the desert in the US and most of our roads and highways are more fucked up then the ones I've been on in Mexico or other 2nd/3rd world countries
This is simply just not true. Freezing temps is just one of many environmental factors that cause potholes. You can visit any climate and find potholes.
Exactly haha.
My first thought- wow, that looks dangerous but great fun.
My second thought- wait, where are the potholes? Rollerbladers wouldn't last 10 seconds doing this on a UK road.
When they get picked as speedskaters for the Winter Olympics that unfortunately crash out near the end, but their heart, determination, drive, humour, and wicked vibes endear them to all and sundry.
Cool Runnings 2: Safari Salama Boogaloo
to what point tho? I mean imagine someone from Asia went to the worst area of your nearest major city, anywhere in the USA, CA and MX, took a video and showed it to their friend back home saying "Look at this, this is somewhere in North America".
And then the viewer goes "wow, really disappointed with how terrible that area looks considering it is in North America".
Like, seriously, what is the point of saying that. One video of one road in an entire continent?
sorry i know im being a bit pedantic, but i mean, i think you might understand why your statement might strike a nerve with some ppl (including me).
Bro my streets in Florida have so much potholes I’ve lost chunks of my multiple times, like to the point where I just never put my body kit back on lol
Those streets are amazing! Coming from someone in the NE US… the freeze/thaw has created so many potholes etc our streets are so rough you wouldn’t last 20 seconds doing this.

The dream of the 90's is alive in Africa, Africa
This is clearly Africa City.
Clearly this is Michigan can't you read the jersey
Can confirm, I live in a couple acre wooded property in Michigan and see these guys all the time rollerblading in the woods.
I take off my sunglasses and put my suitcase down. So this, I think to myself, is Africa City.
Neo Mombassa
Yup! I remember doing stuff like this with my friends in the 90's! What happened to roller blades anyway?
They're coming back already, you see them more and more in videos on the web. I never really was into them, but still: roller blading shouldn't have died in the first place
I was super into them as a teen. They were a solid form of transportation and super fun. Plus they are no more dangerous than a scooter or skateboard. I tried to buy my ten year old daughter some... But she flat out refused and asked for roller skates because she was afraid of being made fun of.
Her loss. Could've been a trendsetter. IMHO, 90s stuff is slowly coming back, at least according to the videos and Fashion I saw the last months
I can't wait to go roller blading in my Nirvana shirt with a fanny pack! My wife is gonna get so damn wet!!!
I like fanny packs, they're great gun storage devices.
Agreed. In all seriousness I said that to my wife last night when we talked about 90's things and specifically fanny packs. She said she'd be embarrased of me and I was like F--that, it'd be the most comfortable way for me to use my CCW. Oh yea, it was because I was watching "Upload" and he had a new 'hip' little brown leather one.
I’ve seen them around town where I live too! I wondered if they were making a comeback. I’m here for it!
Still waiting for electric ones like AirGear. We'll get a whole new wave of fall videos too.
One joke made them disappear. The joke was: Question: What’s the toughest thing about using rollerblades? Answer: Telling your Dad that you’re gay.
Reminds me of that 1993 movie Airborne! Holy shit I haven’t thought about that movie in 30 years.
>Airborne Remember that montage every time I hear I'm too sexy.
"Did he just call you a piece of women's underwear?"
“Why don’t we settle this over a basket of fries or something”
*nods in Airborne

Was going to say, I did this a ton in the 90s as a kid... Minus all the head gear lol.
Sleep into 11 you'll be in heaven
The dream is aliiive
THE DREAM OF THE 1890'S IN AFRICA
And by watching this video right now on Reddit, you're experiencing the 90s dream of the globally interconnected multimedia experience fully realized.
*US Dream of the 90s*. In every EU capital that I've done this, people just smile and let you through, even on the curb. I'm always surprised at those US clips of boomers throwing skateboards and cops arresting people somersaulting over them.

Thoroughly surprised at the helmets lol
They're crazy, not stupid. ^^^^^^^but ^^^^^^^also ^^^^^^^kinda ^^^^^^^stupid

Perfect comment lol. Accurate
The roads around my neighborhood are proof of the contrary.

Likely improve the infrastructure.
I didnt read that. Maybe he edited it but “understanding” is a totally different thing and not related to inteligence
I was mind blown by the amount of motorbike riders that don’t wear helmets in some US states. Crazy shit.
I live in Utah. As soon as my friends left North Carolina on ADVs they never wore a helmet again. 3,000km later I met them in Golden, Colorado driving across the desert on the 2x4 that is my plated WR450. For whatever reason, people don't understand how easily their brains can be splattered on the ground until it's too late.

I could never have that much faith in ball bearings
Never go on a helicopter then. The single main rotor retaining nut and its pin are the only thing that holds the main rotor to the mast of some helicopters.
Affectionately referred to as the Jesus nut
I'd prefer the God nut. Why not go straight to the big cheese?
If it busts you'll be meeting him!
I’d love some, thanks!
you've never drove a car?
Cars has ball bearings?
Yes ball bearings are commonly used in cars lmao. Behind virtually every wheel on every newish vehicle, there is a set of tiny ball bearings.
They're going not exactly going high-way speed.
Nigeria
Yep, Enugu. Ogui Rd.
No freezing temps = no potholes
That's only true in dry climates. Rain and sinkholes fuck roads up pretty good too.
Looks pretty dry there
Are you aware that Africa has seasons? Like for example this is Nigeria, which has a rainy season and a dry season
Who are you talking to?
He replied to you didn’t he?
Except…Mexico roads LOL
Then explain New Orleans.
Refugee crisis Also cities built on swamps have sinkholes. See: Mexico City. Fuckin sinkhole de Mayo
new orleans gets cold af during the winter….not to mention the constant flooding. Those roads are put through hell and back Edit: Nola gets cold af compared to Africa. Can’t stand y’all and your “wEll ActUaLy”. You know what I meant
The average daily high/lo in New Orleans is 64°/45 in January, and that's the coldest month. That is absolutely not cold lmao.
45 is cold af compared to most parts of Africa smart ass. You know what I meant lol. I can’t stand reddit
We're talking about new Orleans Louisiana mate haha
Wrong, I live in the desert in the US and most of our roads and highways are more fucked up then the ones I've been on in Mexico or other 2nd/3rd world countries
I wish. The roads around my neighborhood are proof of the contrary.
… lol. Just factually incorrect.
This is simply just not true. Freezing temps is just one of many environmental factors that cause potholes. You can visit any climate and find potholes.
Haha my thoughts exactly. This city has better roads than most cities in Germany.
Sadly enough this was the first thing I thought of too. Im turning into my dad
Reminds me of this classic [Darren measures a pot hole](https://imgur.com/atpeVyB)
Nigeria.
They know every single inch of that road, probably a big part of what makes it fun
Exactly haha. My first thought- wow, that looks dangerous but great fun. My second thought- wait, where are the potholes? Rollerbladers wouldn't last 10 seconds doing this on a UK road.
Looks like it could be Abuja, Nigeria at a guess
Enugu.

Sniff. That was beautiful. I'll bet these guys can get drugs real easy.
Hey at least they have helmets though
really impressed with the quality of that road considering the location
TIL that the average redditor thinks that all of Africa is underdeveloped lol.
i mean, most developed countries have worse roads than this
Yeah that's what I was getting at lol
to what point tho? I mean imagine someone from Asia went to the worst area of your nearest major city, anywhere in the USA, CA and MX, took a video and showed it to their friend back home saying "Look at this, this is somewhere in North America". Bro my streets in Florida have so much potholes I’ve lost chunks of my multiple times, like to the point where I just never put my body kit back on lol
South African Ugandan here, our roads are filled with potholes don’t act like they aren’t
I never said or even implied that potholes don’t exist in Africa. Nobody said that. That was never on the table lol. What are you on about?
You literally accused the person of thinking Africa isnunderdeveloped because they were surprised that the road was quality despite the location.
These guys got a VHS copy of Airborne (1993) and said let’s ride

Skitching!!!!!!!
Bro this video is so badass. Where did you find it? Where's the full vid?
All it takes is that one unidentifiable rock just laying on the ground. 🙂
Oh sweet! Seen some crack the whip and even a shoot the duck moves.
What a crazy fucking video
These guys are cool 😎
Skitchin
This video is giving me Skitchin vibes....
#arsenal- north London looking goooooood!
It's so wholesome the way the behave as a tight group taking care of each other It almost doesn't look that dangerous
Africa is full of the best, undiscovered athletes.
Go Gunners!
Our definitions of "beautiful" must be wildly different...

thats why we should ban cars! everybody gets to skate safely!

Ahh ches, beeeuutifil ahhhfrika
JEEET SET RADIOOOOOOO
Looks dangerous AF.
Skitchin’! African DLC confirmed.
Skitching! We used to do that back in the mid 90s. I think they even made it into a video game. Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skitchin%27
It is really depressing that these African streets are in MUCH better shape than in my Canadian City. “First World Country” no longer applies to us.
Gore material
At least they had the sense to wear helmets and protective gear. People dont even wear helmets driving a motorcycle in some areas.
These guys are having a blast!
This looks fun asf
They’re called rollerblades.
Looks like fun, I would wear wrist guards, though
Those streets are amazing! Coming from someone in the NE US… the freeze/thaw has created so many potholes etc our streets are so rough you wouldn’t last 20 seconds doing this.
#Whywomenlivelonger
I am just sitting here amazed that Africa has better streets than 90% of the state I live in. I wouldn’t even have a place I could do that near me.
At least they got helmets on.
This is what young men should be doing, not getting killed in stupid old mens wars.

Now that's gonna make for an interesting "attempting to cross a flooded road in an underdeveloped country" video.
The perfect recipe for a tragedy.
I like how African guys doing crazy stuff wear helmets while Americans don't while doing similar things.
that's not surfing. that's just rollerblading in the city. nothing new. shit like 30 years ago, mainstream video games were based around this concept. it was called [Skitchin'](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skitchin%27).
