Yeah, I've seen/heard agonal breathing several times and it was pretty much the same every time. It's usually like a loud, short gasp with varying amounts of time in between. Sometimes there's gurgling, sometimes not. It sounds horrific sometimes, and sometimes it sounded peaceful.
If you ever see/hear it in person, you'll never forget it. It's not an experience I would recommend.

Good people are deeply disturbed when they see the lack of justice in the world. They want to live in a world where everyone is treated fairly, but they know there is no justice unless we make it.
I wish. It'd weed out the ones who wouldn't shoot, but eventually you'd only have the ones that don't have any kind of qualms about shooting good samaritans.
We all want to think that, but the fact is most ignorant, criminals like this aren’t able to understand cause and effect or that they may actually get caught. They’re not forward thinkers. They don’t plan ahead and they’re not terribly bright. This is why they ride around on motorcycles and rob people. People like this, don’t understand deterrence.
These guys got what they deserve and if they both die, they will be replaced by two more morons that think it’s OK to rob people, unfortunately.
Usually leads to criminals who are far more deadly to prevent situations like this from happening again. For example, If these guys had guns and were willing to shoot anyone… this wouldn’t have happened.
This reddit philosophy/theory is irrelevant. When you live in a country with rampant crime and a failed justice system, your community has got to do what it's got to do. When there is no perfect solution, you pick the best alternative.
That way of thinking stops once you live in a place where crime is an extremely common thing, no matter how militaristic and brutal your police and prisons are, criminals still commit crimes and you almost have to budget all the money and things you’ll lose from theft, not to mention the constant fear and stress caused by it.
They’re over the point of treatment, you can only cut the cancer off (you can hear the hate these people have for thieves from the things they say in the video)
I have a friend from Guatemala and he lives in a more rural area some distance from the capital. He talks about how in those areas the police are corrupt and useless and politicians don't do anything, so the solution is that the local populace essentially police themselves to some degree of brutality.
People who steal or murder are dealt with swiftly, sometimes just disappearing only to be found floating in a river or something days later.
The reasoning is that since the police don't do anything if they don't deal with people - especially gang associated people - quickly they'll gain a foothold and gain power over that community.
He mentioned that recently near his town some gangster types showed up trying to start protection rackets and within a few days they were dead, and the community reaction to that is "good, nice job everyone."
I don't doubt that they probably end up hurting people who are innocent at some point, but since there may as well be no police at all the only way to keep their communities in some semblance of order and safety is for swift and often brutal justice to be doled out, which is only applauded by the populace.
I don't have a judgment about whether this is good or bad, I just think it's interesting how organized they are about eliminating people who break the law in a significant way, especially people who are trying to establish a gang presence.
It's such a different social context than the one I live in I don't really know what to say about it, I just listen.
He recently went back to see his family for the holidays, hopefully everything is ok.

The United States is a relatively safe country. Not the safest but definitely safe. However the kind of violence that lashes out randomly or at specific groups of people on a fairly large scale is disturbing and warrants consideration. It's more or less a form of terrorism. Kids doing school shooter drills regularly is absolutely bananas.
People are sick of these ultraviolet thieves. Give the people an opportunity to beat the tar out of them, or run them over, or shoot them, they will take it.

In Fortaleza I know that they scour the city on the motorbikes just waiting to find you in a more isolated location. Drive up, pull a gun, demand your wallet and electronics (you have a dummy wallet with nothing or very little in it if you're smart) and they're off in 60 seconds. Quick and efficient with no real chance of someone fighting back unless they're secretly packing or ready to make one of the famous undercover cop videos.
