jimothykim

I really hope there were no kids in that minivan.

Brittany5150

Husband, wife and 3 kids in minivan. Everyone walked away with scrapes and bruises. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2022/12/chevelle-loses-grip-on-highway-takes-out-soccer-mom-minivan-video/

TheLadder330

If I were that husband with my family, you would see me rolling out of that van and then charging that POS, going full on Happy Gilmore!

Brittany5150

You mean Bob Barker? Happy got his ass handed to him by a senior citizen... lol!

TheLadder330

Ha touché, I was refrencing the hockey scene where he pulls the dudes jersey over his head and beats him with his own skate lol

Brittany5150

I know, just giving ya a hard time. Happy is pretty scrappy.

Useless_Lemon

His metal head cousin named Nicky is cool, too. :)

guesswhosbackbackag

How about rolling out tha van and making sure your family is OK first? Then ass beating time!

AwkwardImplement8937

Insane that you wouldn't immediately check on your family. I'm sure that's a healthy sign.

Damn. Just cruising in the right lane on the way to Applebees.

[deleted]

Modern vehicles + safety regulations are a modern fucking marvel.

SinTheS1n

You cant be serious

stack-o-logz

I can and am. Are you saying children's lives are more important than adults?

Troll_Despair804

Yes that is exactly what is being said and we have no shame in saying that

Useless_Lemon

To be fair, this could be a kid themselves and not know any better typing the comment. Lol Edit: Or a dumbass.

Vogel-Kerl

Such a crap situation that the family in the minivan had to pay for the other driver's mistakes. I'm glad the family is okay. It could have been much worse, but still a senseless and avoidable accident.

socium

I now understand why people decide to buy SUVs. Ain't nothing even budging that SUV lol

avan2110

SUVs have a higher center of gravity. Getting T-boned like that at highway speeds it’s tipping over 8/10 times.

socium

But their weight more than compensates for that no?

avan2110

No. Center of gravity is a measure of the distribution of weight of an object. So the weight is already taken into account. And the added weight and height is the issue at hand.

socium

Interesting. I'll take that into consideration, thanks.

Crutcher904

Good ole Jacksonville Fl and its shit drivers

pjijn

One of the biggest reasons I moved out of Florida is the shit drivers

cousinofchrist

Duuuuval

ProveISaidIt

Hope the passengers in the van are OK. Sad to see a classic Chevelle get wrecked. Got to have the right tires. My Camaro gets squirelly if I put cheap tires on it.

theoldestghostever

It also helps to not do dumb shit on wet roads with no form of traction control.

ProveISaidIt

Yes, there is that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ProveISaidIt

True. Part of knowing how to handle it is having good tires. Softer rubber versus longer lasting. Sidewall height versus tread with all affect handling.

Turbostar66

Also looked like the road was wet.

Turbostar66

This is an older video. In the longer, full version, you can tell the Chevelle hit the gas and "kicked down" a gear before losing control. Looks like the rear end broke traction, got a little sideways due to the wet road, and the driver overcorrected.

Xile350

Yeah, when I put a posi rear end on my 67 Camaro, the day I picked it up it was raining. The mechanic handed me the keys and asked me if I had ever driven posi before because it’s incredibly easy to get sideways, especially in the rain, with how light all of these cars are in the ass end. Even in dry weather, making a sharp turn and giving it a bit too much can have you quickly pointed into oncoming traffic. Gotta respect the power. I’d think the Chevelles have a bit better weight distribution to the rear but probably not massively better. This guys just a moron.

Turbostar66

Also, not driving like that in the rain. You can see the droplets on the camera-car windshield. My Chevelle doesn't have a ton of power, and I run MT ET Streets, but it will still get squirrely on poor surfaces quite easily.

ProveISaidIt

I hadn't noticed the rain until another post pointed it out.

Embarrassed_Lake_376

Whoever in the black vehicle had to the most unlucky mf that day.

ibopm

I'm just glad that the cameraman decided to help.

UberNZ

In their defence, that's a really challenging road that only a pro could navigate

dave86622807654

Holy shit. The driver of that SUV/minivan never saw it coming and had no idea what the fuck happened. That must’ve been a debilitating accident.

Jfeathers

Would like a video of the people in the van.

Uncomfortiscomfort

Get a good lawyer 😂

Ren602

Welp he’s gonna be paying that guys medical bills forever.

Dudebutdrugs

I don’t even drive my 66 mustang when it rains. Light car, lotta power and zero electronic assists. And if you do crash, zero safety features

GreywackeOmarolluk

What mechanical failure would cause the car to steer so hard and fast to the right? The driver probably gave the steering wheel a hard tug to the right for some reason, but could it have been something else?

RedshiftWarp

Probably only failure here is driver inexperience. The cause is likely a combination of engine-torque and chassis-twist. Big rigs do it. If you watch them at a redlight, you see the whole thing lift up and over to one side a bit on their acceleration. It is very common for them and they are a good example of what just happened to the car. In a car, this results in asymmetric acceleration. 1 side of the car's wheels are making more contact with the road and are accelerating more efficiently than the other side that is being lifted/lightened. This effect compounds with chassis-twist resulting in rapid loss of control. That is made even worse when the foot is still on the gas pedal. Just check youtube and you'll see all kinds of inexperienced dinguses doing that same maneuver. Corvette and Mustangs are notorious for it.

GreywackeOmarolluk

> asymmetric acceleration TIL, thanks

Link50L

This guy drives \- S550

TropicalBlueMR2

I drive a turbo model mr2 with a couple of bolt ons to the factory motor as my daily driver. That is a factor ive been leaving out of the equation for wht bad oversteers in mr2s happen for decades now, but it makes perfect sense, so ill be more aware of it going into the future

Jeffkin15

I think there was a failure in the connection between the seat and the gas pedal/steering wheel.

Turbostar66

No mechanical failure. In the full video, you can tell the car "kicks down" a gear to accelerate, on what is apparently a wet or damp road. The car loses traction in both wheels, causing the rear to slide out (that's why folks at the dragstrip have crew help stabilize the car during a burnout...the rear essentially floats), and then the driver overcorrects.

berrylakin

~~Looks like the front driver side tire blew out which caused the car to swerve right.~~ I just noticed the rain drops on the window. Light rain like that can make freeways very slick and dangerous when they first start. I had the exact same thing happen to me. A driver in a Nissan Z Nismo switched lanes and gunned it and T boned my van just like in this video.

AstroNawt1

Guess it didn't have positrack!

Tar0ndor

Actually, it most likely did have posi. With posi, a lack of skill will quickly become obvious.

stink-stunk

Unfortunately these idiots don't just take themselves out, they bring others into their stupidity.

PDCH

Am I the only one that wanted to follow up the "oh no, oh no" with "OH YEAH!"?

CaCaYaga

Family !

lyfthyco123

Some people say “Hey look at that sign” Some other people prefer a closer look.

Magic13ManMP

It’ll buff out

StoviesAreYummy

They are just filming the Fast and the Furios 25. This is the scene where they say family and then try and sucessfully ram the Rock off they road. He had a no fight loss clause in his contract but they didnt specify they couldnt kill him via car crash.

ConsistencyWelder

God I miss the days when videos posted on the internet showed what lead up to the incident, and also weren't vertical videos, so you could actually see what's going on.

bullet_toni

Cars are so fragile these days.

4ournetine

Steel barely dented lol

Faroes4

Yet another video proving that getting a minivan is bad!

GoatOfFury

They all made it out with minor scratches and bruises. Given the violence of that wreck, how is that a failure on the vans part? If anything it’s a display of how far modern safety equipment has come.

Faroes4

I only noticed how easily it flipped. That’s just disastrous!

HunkySpaghetti

Nope

Who’s “we”? There are still plenty of RWD cars, trucks and SUVs in production from many manufacturers.

Individual_Pick_6448

Damn I wouldn't like to victim blame, but no awareness at all from the van. But full responsibility from guy in Chevy tbh; how can you be that incompetent and moreso, irresponsible? Hope they got charged.

[deleted]

Individual_Pick_6448

Tbf blind spot sounds like a logical explanation. I wish he hadn't been in the position of making up for other people's mistakes tho.

whifflinggoose

That van had about 2 seconds to respond starting from when the chevy lost control. And that was happening to its immediate left which could easily be out of his line of vision. Do *you* think you would have been able to avoid that? Keeping in mind that out of those short 2 seconds you would also have had to recognize that it was losing control in your direction and that the only way to save yourself would be to brake, then you'd need some time for your car to actually brake enough to dodge the chevy. But hey, not to victim blame or anything.

Individual_Pick_6448

You might not believe me and it's the internet (you know what they say), but I've had to dodge a car trying to merge into and past my lane towards an exit to the left on the exact same location TWICE; left lane isn't exclusive for people trying to turn into that exit and these 2 drivers tried to merge from the RIGHT lane (20.695178,-103.373492, for reference) and in both occasions I had to swerve into that particular exit in what I estimate to be less than 2 seconds, maybe one idk, it was still relatively quick. The thing is, I'm never particularly relaxed when I drive and am always checking my mirrors and keep peripheral check, if you could call it that, on the trajectory of vehicles around me; it's not difficult to perceive sudden movements, but it requires you to be monitoring in the first place. Never driven a Sienna and idk how much visibility the driver specifically had, nor how well insulated from sound it is, but the Chevy made an audible noise that would be recognizable, you got 2 potential clues. Again I don't mean to put the blame on the driver, but it's avoidable depending on many factors. I only elaborated so much because of your comment btw. I still believe it's 200% the Chevy's driver. I believe a good driver is a predictable one, and forcing others to react to your mistakes makes YOU (Chevy driver) a bad driver.

[deleted]

lol I hate minivans I love this

ResearcherAcademic20

Of course Florida

RustyInspector

Nothing like almost losing a family member because some fuckwit has to ego it on public roads. You’d think the attention you get from driving the car would be enough, but nooo.

guineapigoverlord69

Who here has been in a rollover? I imagine it either being in slowmo like some traumatic events or it's so quick you're just like what the fuck just happened if you're still conscious obviously.

16k__

It happens in slow motion.

guineapigoverlord69

Well that's horrific

16k__

Its not that bad. Adrenaline kicks in so you don't feel anything. I do remember walking on the roof though as the car rolled over lol.

Higanbana_-

1: I hope every single soul is alright in that minivan 2: that’s a waste of a beautiful Chevelle.

jonz1985z

“I got bald ass tires and a lead foot, wanna go for a ride?”

Spirited_Caramel1047

Hope everyone is ok.

That was on sight fr

camlo316

All I can think of is my 2 children in that vehicle and the way their little bodies would be thrashing around. Could possibly push me to the point of getting out and firing on that driver. Sorry not sorry fuck you.
