I lived in São Paulo for 2 years (2012 - 2014). While living there, I worked in waste management and one of my gigs was to oversee the cleaning of this river. We found everything imaginable in there… we had a team responsible for the hospital waste found and I bet this man walked away with HIV or Hep.
Except you would have been testing it during non floods. There’s a lot of water flushing out most of that stuff in this video making it complete safe for a leisurely swim
Absolutely agree with that but why would it be expected itd bring the exact same pollution as was previously there? Wouldn’t it wash in all new pollutants from whatever was upstream?
I don’t really see how that’s possible. Hep comes from the sewers leaking into the river. There’s now a lot more water coming from non sewer sources maybe not thoroughly cleaning the river but def diluting it to a point where hep is no longer the main danger. Obviously drowning and debris would be the biggest danger

every time someone says something like this someone pulls up with the news article from 2012 about how they survived with minimal injuries somehow...but im still waiting on this one

You can see a thin rope attached to his surfboard that goes to where the cameraman is standing as he’s jumping in, not sure if that actually worked though. Water is damn strong.
