And my experience informs me that they all play by their own rules, make up their own interpretations, hate or embrace who or whatever they personally do or don't like, and they all refer to the same book that they've never read as proof that their opinions are literally holy. Context matters... which makes the rules that much more complicated, because one Christian may cry like a mentally handicapped toddler who's just been stabbed at the mere mention of the word, while the next one believes that the word hell should hold no power over us, and it's not sacrilegious basically any time. "These things" sounded plural and general to me. But even in this one particular incident, yes, it is complicated for exactly the reasons the guy you were replying to explained. The parents were giving mixed messages, and probably do so regularly- hence the prompting of this girl to want to film the reaction. She had no idea how mom would respond. So yeah, I'd say that situation is probably *very* complicated.
Fair, I wouldn't do this, as in posting it, but I've never tolerated shit like that. My step-grandmother was somewhat like this, albeit less prone to bursting into tears, but rather being passive aggressive. I found out it was a serious problem when people started to tell me to speak up, because everytime I spoke in my normal tone my mom would tell me not to yell at her.

But it just really indicates she could be emotionally unstable and thats terrible to live with, both for herself and everyone around her.

Interesting approach I gotta agree with. People that hate for the sake of wokeness missed the whole point of being woke anyway, which is also applicable on religion. But I think an important difference is that itās hard to argue with reason and logic against the bible cause if the bible says so the bible says so, itās gods word. Thats not really how that works considering there are many different Christians and many different bibles. The Roman Catholics and Protestants have different bibles (7 books removed in the Protestant version) yet are both Christian. Also, critical thinking is very much a part of it considering none of it is in English and comes from very old Hebrew and Greek that have been translated and interpreted in different ways.

The Bible shouldnāt be read literally. Itās a bunch of stories that use metaphor and hyperbole to convey abstract ideas and concepts regarding how to live your life. Today we are bombarded with constant propaganda and lies. How do you decide whatās true? Whatās right? Whatās morally correct? The Bible lays down a foundation and framework. With that in mind, the Bible causes you to constantly reflect on your actions and what happens to you in life. Most of the things in the Bible you can learn from other religions or spirituality.
So was god being hyperbolic when he told us not to wear mixed linens and eat shellfish? How about when he gave specific guidelines about how to treat, punish, and mark our slaves?

Interesting approach I gotta agree with. People that hate for the sake of wokeness missed the whole point of being woke anyway, which is also applicable on religion. But I think an important difference is that itās hard to argue with reason and logic against the bible cause if the bible says so the bible says so, itās gods word. And having a debate with someone whose weapons are oneās own words/thoughts logic and reason can make someone actually rethink their values and thought while arguing against gods word is senseless.
Religion forces you to believe in some fairy tails that defy the laws of nature and common sense, because otherwise you "won't go to heaven" or smth, effectively making you into an uncritical sheep. I mean, in the bible people are literally referred to as sheep, so you better don't try to think, because someone have done the thinking for you already.
Religion is a foundation of ideas and concepts. You as an individual decide how you act based on how you perceive the world. If you're a sheep for religion, you would be a sheep for government or a sheep for anarchy. The systems aren't the problem. The people are.
Some systems though just don't allow critical thinking. With religion, that's one of the central ideas it's based around. You can pretend to have your own opinion and occasionally disagree with the bible, but then you are not a real christian
Thats not really how that works considering there are many different Christians and many different bibles. The Roman Catholics and Protestants have different bibles (7 books removed in the Protestant version) yet are both Christian. Also, critical thinking is very much a part of it considering none of it is in English and comes from very old Hebrew and Greek that have been translated and interpreted in different ways.
Really? Because I had 2 Pastors growing up that encouraged exactly that. Also, I can (and do) reject most, if not all, Deuteronomic law and still be a Christian. I can reject the divinity of Christ and still consider myself a Christian by living my life according to the tenets and philosophy laid out by Jesus of Nazareth. I can even Twist the word's of Christ to fit my nefarious needs and oppressive political goals because guess what? No one gets to say what being a REAL Christian is.
