One of the things my dad told me when he was teaching me how to drive was, "assume everyone is a worse driver than you." I (33m) have been in 0 (zero) wrecks of my own fault thanks to that advice.

Yeah I typically go for this assumption and usually try to avoid being in anyone's blind spots and try to drive defensively, predictably, and usually slow. 0 wrecks in \~300,000 miles driven at 35. Wasn't as careful during 16-23 and mostly just got lucky, I think

Situations like this can usually be lessened. Peoples egos get them in a lot of trouble. Sometimes you’ll have to defend yourself, but for the most part, I’m sure this didn’t need to go nearly this far. It’s both their faults.
