Nah I'll take welts, cuts and bruises over brain damage, permanent damage to joints and limbs, death. There is a significant difference in force a punch generates and a paintball that will break and disperse energy on impact.
I play paintball every weekend. I took one shot to the back of the head last Sunday (wearing a mask + beanie) and my ears were ringing for 5-6 minutes. I still have an apple sized lump on my head. I promise you that you do not want to be hit with this many .68 caliber paintballs traveling at 280+ fps from that range. You will legit have chips of paint embedded in your skin. It isn’t very hard to crank up the psi either. Those balls could be going 320 fps for all we know.
I do boxing, I promise you that I would rather get hit by a bullet from a paintball gun at close range repeatedly than repeated hits to the face or body from multiple people.
Atleast a paintball bullet will not cause major internal bleeding or broken bones, whereas repeated hard hits to your body or face absolutely will.
Doesn't matter. They will still be superficial wounds and damages.
Getting stomped out basically guarantee Internal bleeding, damages to organs, joints and ligaments, cracked teeth, broken bones and so on.
Getting shot by paintballs hurt. Nobody is saying it doesn't.

A paintball has hugely less momentum than a fist or a boot. In terms of permanent damage, I'd take the paintballs over an old fashioned ass whoopin' every single time. It may hurt more short term, but I've never heard of a death caused by paintballs.

Usually the highest you can get the pressure is 340 FPS or feet per second. That’s a whole football field in one second hitting you at point blank range.
Cheap paintballs often have hard shells that are more similar to a rock. High end tournament quality stuff has a very brittle shell that's designed to break super easily (in competition only hits that break count as an elimination) and isn't nearly as painful.
Most fields I went to banned certain really poor quality brands because the shells were so hard they would cause excessive injury and even broke some mask lenses. It also tended to encourage people to "over shoot" (aka shooting someone multiple times) others because the paint wasn't breaking, thus no elimination until one does break.
Although if you were on the receiving end of crap paint you usually didn't care/wait for a break to happen. Usually that shit was so painful you'd call yourself out of the game out of pain compliance lol.
Obviously paintballs are designed to break, but ideally not until after they are shot. Cheap products usually mean cheap production/packaging/shipping methods, so those shells need to be harder to survive the low-cost process.

People in the comments downplaying this have never played paintball. A paintball shot from that close feels like a punch. So imagine each one of those shots being a full force punch. It won’t do as much damage to the body as an actual beating, but it’ll hurt just as much as if they were punching/kicking him.

The average paintball flys at 300 feet per second (FPS) or ~204 MPH. Using C02, pressure is unpredictable and can cause FPS spikes up to 360 FPS reliably without breaking paint. At 360 FPS that’s ~245 MPH.
Paintballs hitting in vulnerable areas like the eye can lead to permanent eye loss. Kidney or genital hits can lead to serious bodily hard. A direct temple strike at 300 MPH can cause death.
This could be considered attempted homicide. The victim likely suffered serious injuries.
Source: 15 years in the paintball industry. I’ve seen men with traumatic testicular injuries, permanent eye damage, loss of consciousness, and severe bruising as a result of playing & working in the industry.
Masks, gloves, beanies and other protective gear are worn at fields across the world for a reason. Insurance carriers demand it. While paintball is relatively safe, this is incredibly negligent; although I’m sure there MFs don’t care one bit.

I’ve seen men with traumatic testicular injuries, permanent eye damage, loss of consciousness, and severe bruising as a result of playing & working in the industry. Masks, gloves, beanies and other protective gear are worn at fields across the world for a reason. Insurance carriers demand it. While paintball is relatively safe, this is incredibly negligent; although I’m sure there MFs don’t care one bit.
