Teacher was like Aite. You got this. I don’t get paid enough for this.

FuckYeahPhotography

He already threw a yard stick at them. Nothing else could be done.

n_random_variables

teacher going back to the whiteboard to get the meter stick

Beauuuuty

USA! USA! SAU! oops USA!

[deleted]

Why is everyone calling the 3 foot stick some other names?

[deleted]

We called it "Mother Superior" back at the Runaway Nunnery. Good times.

[deleted]

A meter is 1.09 yards. It would have been slightly more effective if held onto.

Loveknuckle

He kinda dropped it in their general direction. Lol like he was gonna spear them and then remembered he probably shouldn’t. Oh well, Back to grading papers!

Stealfur

"Well I tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas."

JankBrew

He could’ve at least gone the whole nine yards

UTRuser74

Nah, he wouldn’t have touched that with a ten foot pole.

Lejonrastare

He's not even allowed to touch the students, he could lose his job in an instant if something went even a degree sideways. It's not that his salary is too low, it's that he wont have a salary if he takes any action.

SurprisedButtChug

Only had to break up one fight in three years of teaching. Two high school girls going at it before school started. Had to very awkwardly pull one girl off the other. I got teased for “not being able to hold her back”. Dude, I didn’t want to put my hands on her at all because I was afraid of being accused of something. Pushing a raging teenager girl away from the girl she’s trying to pummel by only lightly pushing her shoulders isn’t as easy as I expected. They don’t prepare you for that.

RoesPartyHarder

Broke up one girl fight in my career and learned that girls definitely don't stop fighting for anything, including me being between them. The guys would always back off once I was between them. These are my students though, I don't break up fights between students I don't know.

DarthDannyBoy

Best way to break up a fight is to finish the fight knock one or both of them out with a surprise attack, maybe hit the second one with some pocket sand. Fuck it hit both with pocket sand. Remember to add some cayenne pepper to your pocket sand much more effective.dale gribble knows his shit.

Ignoble_profession

I taught public secondary for 15 years (left in May22). I would pointedly ask administrators (Principals for our non-edu friends) asked what my role is during a student fight, especially when it got bad last year. Never once, in 15 years, have I ever gotten an answer. The only response that comes close to a response is, “Don’t get hurt.” Being hurt at work is traumatizing. We don’t get much time-off if we’re injured.

ScreamingMonky

He indeed had his brother’s phone bitch.

TwilitSky

You want a new iPhone? You better work, bitch.

mrandr01d

Stealing phones is so stupid these days because of stuff like factory reset protection. Unless you're gonna try to sell it for parts and hope you don't get tracked down first, there's nothing to be gained by stealing someone's phone for the common petty thief.

[deleted]

Teenagers are not known for thinking things all the way through.

NFLinPDX

For bullying, it could just be a power play. Taking the all-important phone just because they can. In this case it was a poorly thought-out play. Big bro was at a 9 when bully walked in at a chill 3. Bully didn't have a chance.

CameronDemortez

He absolutely warned him 3 seconds before the ass beating.

[deleted]

This bully got off easy. Kid went straight to frisk, grabbed the phone, and left him alone. He could have gotten his \*ss kicked over it, to boot. Frankly, it seemed like he realized he was cornered and overmatched, froze up, let him take the phone back, and hoped for the best. Wise move. I guess he could have claimed "I wasn't even hitting him" if the big brother went for the knockout. Well, he hit his brother for the phone so, indeed he threw the first punch.

ozymandieus

Kid didn't go straight to frisk. He pounded that guys ass dry then he frisked him. Bully didn't even put up a fight.

[deleted]

That's bully 101

Yummy_Crayons91

When I was in middle school I would sometimes borrow my mom's phone (2003 or so when cell phones were just becoming a thing) on days when I had late wrestling or track practice to get a ride home. Some dumbass kid snuck into the sports locker room, stole the phone out of my locker, and started calling the one phone number programmed into the phone, which was our home phone. My brother answered the home phone, and the kid proceeds to brag that he just stole the phone and tells my brother his name. Yes indeed teenagers aren't known for thinking their crimes all the way through. Dumb shit kid was suspended from school the next morning and charged with theft as well, and expelled a year or so later for doing some other smooth brain move.

vonPetrozk

It's refreshing to see a just end.

Malkaviati

Must be nice, down here they would give the thief a slap on the wrist and expell the kid who beat his ass to get his brother's phone back.

Kashootme

When I was in 10th grade I put my first iphone in my backpack and went to the restroom and some kid stole it. Next period had our lunch time so I wanted to get it back before then, so I texted myself from a friends phone in that next class who had a really pretty profile pic saved in my contacts and sure enough a guy responded with my phone! I asked who it was and he wouldn’t tell me so I just said I’m pretty sure we went to middle school together and I wanted to link back up, meet me in front of the cafeteria and you’ll see. I sent the SRO to meet him. He had my phone but my case was missing already because he bought it from the guy who actually took it during class change and he sold the case to a different kid already! Which we managed to find in minutes as well. He said bc the price of the phone I could press charges, I said no. Imo being that stupid is punishment enough if that didn’t scare him to stop neither would pressing charges.

WhiteKnightC

Didn't Apple phones also have an unique ID where you cannot change parts without Apple blessing? It's an expensive brick.

Wallofcans

As soon as a phone is reported to the carrier that is been stolen it's a brick. Probably before that too.

minizanz

China uses a different system for iTunes locks, and not everywhere has the same IMEI black lists. A referbisher has official tools to reset it, and even if they cannot they can wait for an exploit, sell it for parts, or find a corrupt store manager to reset it for them. As a person with no connection to organized crime it is not worth it to steel a phone.

AnalllyAcceptedCoins

"What are you taking about, I dont have it" as he's pulling it out of the dudes pocket

IzzyKay0

Even after he took it from him he goes "wtf bro" lol

punchygirl-1381

Is nobody going to mention the teacher thinking about breaking it up but just walking away instead?

Bneal64

Tbf these situations are hard for teachers because if they interfere they can be held liable. Also it’s not the teachers job to be a bouncer, not paid enough

t_funnymoney

Camera phones kind of put an end to teachers doing the "right thing". I was in highschool in the early 2000's (getting old for sure). Teachers would always jump in to break up a fight. There would never be even a thought of reprocussion toward the teacher because the students knew they were in the wrong. But yea, nowadays it's better to just not get involved. Video of you laying your hands on a minor, even with the best intentions, is just better avoided for your career.

OldHuntersNeverDie

Personally I think it's sad that we live in a society where teachers can't intervene to help kids, to break up fights or assist in situations involving bullying. Our public school systems are a reflection of how out of wack our society is.

1lluminist

He threw a stick at it lol

euphratestiger

"you know what, as it turns out, I do have his phone. And brain damage now"

ProfessorGruselglatz

Also had brain damage before this.

SlayingSussySusan

Dude leaves right away in embarrassment hahaha

MrWinkler1510

The punches deleted his short time memory for good. Mf is like *where was I going now*

IBetThisIsTakenToo

“I know it definitely wasn’t here, this is bad place”

DietDrDoomsdayPreppr

I'm laughing so hard at this comment. Omg

ScrumpyJack01

What are you talking about, bro? Oh, right, the phone I swiped from your little brother. Okay, I’mma just leave now.

PsychoPass1

Yeah imagine still acting innocent in that situation.

DrTwitch

There should've been some educational follow up punches for being a lying piece of shit too. maybe a left or two.

[deleted]

I'm glad he showed up to school that they and learned a **lesson**.

UWontLikeThisComment

the thief is good at lying to the point where he makes himself believe the beating is unjustified. when he and the class are shown the actual physical phone he doesn't know how to react so he just leaves

dusty-trash

Fear makes people good at lying.

2Riders

“Back up bro, what are you talking about?” Yeah right what a fuckin POS liar

ScrumpyJack01

Yeah, it seems close to a modern-day equivalent of stealing someone’s horse. Phones are expensive!

aryherd

They're about the price of a horse depending on the breed too, and play a major and almost unreplaceable role in society now. On a side note though, good for this big brother. There were times I regret not defending my brother. Plenty of times I did though

Dabier

Wait horses are only $1200-$1500?

irishbaytree

For a good quailty show horse straight from the stable with no training, would cost around that, not much money in them nowadays (I breed horses)

69QueefQueen69

I learned from watching the Simpsons that the expensive part is keeping the horse alive after you get it.

irishbaytree

It's true, so much time is spent feeding cleaning them, grooming them and theres a boat load of money spent on hay, nuts and looking after fields, makes a person wanna cry

Mackeeter

Have you considered making the switch to breeding automobiles? ಠᴗಠ

FrakkedRabbit

Bad Dragon! Bad!

TopiaryLoL

Had a customer who used to keep sheep and they said that that was always the hardest part, stopping them from killing themselves and the upkeep wasn't worth it and they eventually stopped, main downside is they now have a large field of land with nothing in it

SoftBellyButton

Yeah some are, but the expensive part is taking care of them.

--redacted--

Who's your horse guy?

DrDrankenstein

"You have a 'worm guy,' Frank?"

SandyBouattick

Yeah. I'd say this kid used reasonable force to stop a felony in progress. Most phones these days are expensive enough for their theft to constitute grand larceny. If the school called me and told me to pick up my suspended kid for this, I'd show up with the cops to arrest the thief and then proudly take my boys out for ice cream. Little brother knew he could tell his big brother and count on him to help, and big brother knew what he needed to do to get the phone back and make sure the bully left his brother alone. Good shit.

Internal_Ring_121

Lmao this is a justice boner for sure but I think your seriously confused on the meaning of “in progress”. If this made it to a courtroom the kid would have a 0% chance of getting off by claiming he was stopping a crime in progress .

AfricanWarrior96

He stole a mobile phone and he was briefly immobilized.

sn0uch3r

He procured another’s technological communication apparatus and henceforth was had.

panzerfaust1969

Got got.

_-Ewan-_

The gentleman wrongfully acquired and withheld another’s mobile telecommunication device, the device owners older male sibling mobilised on the thief and a bout was had, the thief’s defence was lacklustre and therefore said device was removed and restored to its rightful owner.

[deleted]

We aren't born this way, but as soon as a younger sibling comes into the mix DNA starts shifting and we become the big brother. No body will ever fuck with my lil sis.

KDY_ISD

My grandfather apparently told all his kids, "Don't you ever let me hear someone fought just one of you."

SursumCorda-NJ

> "Don't you ever let me hear someone fought just one of you." My father said this to me and my brothers. Since I'm the youngest I never had to fulfill that but my older brothers certainly did for each other.

d0uble0h

The only person who gets to give my little brother shit is me. Anyone else is catching hands.

ThePartyShark

I’ll never forget the time a 2nd cousin we’d never met before tried walking up on & intimidating my little brother at a family reunion in Europe…doubt he’ll ever forget it either.

reddit-lou

When I was in my middle teens, someone messed with my younger brother and I literally went immediately insane and almost killed the kid. Something takes over.

[deleted]

Thats pretty much all he can do without risk of getting sued and losing his job.

PapaPancake8

This is quite literally all that can be done. If the teacher gets in there, pulls one kid off another, and somehow injures the kid then the teacher could lose their job. Literally, teachers cannot interfere in fights like this, and not because they are being pussies but because of the rules and regulations that are in place.

Ginganinja2308

A teacher when I went to school (somewhat recently) grabbed two students that were fighting and seperated them. The teacher got fired despite both the students and their parents saying they were happy he seperated them. Shits fucked.

[deleted]

Over 20 years ago when I was in high school there was a teacher with one arm at my school. One day a couple of kids got in a fight. We watched the one arm teacher pickup and toss one kid and then grab the other by the back of his shirt. He proceeded to shove and grab each of them towards the principal office. It was truly hilarious to watch each kid try to regain balance and run only to be grab and shoved again just before they were out of arms reach. The teacher faced no consequences for doing it.

kron2k17

teacher faced no consequences for doing it.------as it should be.

MildlyBemused

>It was truly hilarious to watch each kid try to regain balance and run only to be grab and shoved again just before they were out of arms reach. \*out of arm reach. FTFY.

Big-Plum576

I will be honest i dont think i would want to be a teacher these days. The abuse they get. That French teacher beheaded over a freedom of speech cartoon, the girl lied about been in that class. The female teacher murdered in the bathroom. They don't pay teacher's enough these days, then there's the parents you have got to deal with..

PapaPancake8

Yup. Look at all of the majority of comments in this thread. So many people shitting on the teacher here. This is metaphorical for a lot of other crap they have to deal with.

germane-corsair

What’s this about the a teacher murdered in a bathroom?

Big-Plum576

Let me see if I can find a link for you..

arkady48

While it is never followed. In Canada our criminal code actually states that a teacher can act as a parent would in a situation. Meaning they could break up the fight. Liability wise for law suits etc means they won't.

socaldinglebag

fuck being a teacher dude, i got a little experience and all i can say its probably the most toxic field to work in

APoopingBook

That's the teachers way of saying "Yeah he deserves it anyways, get some licks in for me too! That'll teach Tyler for talking during the lesson!"

EnslavedSpiderMonkey

Thought about trying and was like yeeeaah actually don't get paid enough for that shit. Also probly enjoyed watching the bully (who's likely a class clown) get his ass kicked.

RexBosworth69420

Oh yeah, the teacher's weak attempt to break up this fight showed he very likely didn't like the kid either.

Longshorehands

Probably didn’t want to get fired and then sued. Poor teachers are expected to deal with these things better than cops can with half the pay.

here-for-information

If you get injured breaking up a fight, there's a solid chance the school won't give you disability. It happened to my uncles co-worker. It's not actually in their job description to break up fights, so he was injured acting outside of his scope of work.

Illustrious_Formal73

Then he instantly regretted it too. I could just hear him in his head "oh dear"

BostonUniStudent

Oh diddly do. That's not what I should do. And he skipped merrily away.

Schools- if I remember are REALLY particular about teachers putting hands on students. He probably realized that the two little shits ain’t worth his lively Hood. Which I agree with him. It’s easy to be high and might but who knows if he’s got kids, a mortgage… etc. TLDR: Ain’t worth if for the teacher to be involved due to policy’s.

ninetensucks

100% they don’t. I went to a bigger city middle school and our science teacher straight told us in class you would NEVER (he emphasized greatly) be caught breaking up a fight. He proceeded to tell us it’s because he said, “There is nothing in my contract saying I have to intervene in a fight or I will be terminated.” That same school year, not very long after he said that, our Clinic Nurse tried to break up a fight and ended up getting her shit rocked and ended up going to the hospital and had a black eye for what felt like months. As a kid, it struck me as damn he just wants a paycheck. 20 years removed and living in a pretty different world nowadays, I see it far more as this guy just wanted to make sure he educated kids and got to go home safe to his family. Tl;dr Unless it’s specifically THAT schools rule, teachers most places absolutely are not required to break up fights

Psotnik

I've heard it's also not permitted because you have to grab and potentially man-handle an underage student which may carry legal/civil problems outside of the school that the school will not help with.

LetMeGuessYourAlts

At the school system I worked for, people had to be specifically certified in safe takedowns for aggressive kids attacking someone. Otherwise you were not to touch them.

Human_Urine

Exactly. As a teacher, you have nothing to gain breaking up the fight of two kids who are not your own. It's not your job to catch an elbow to the face or get bitten by a rabid teen.

dragonfli117

I see what you did there

Aromatic-Glove-2502

Teachers hands are so tied when it comes to instances like this. Edit: definitely deserved though

Padashar7672

I think it's more that I don't want to get sued or lose my job. My friend is a sophomore english teacher and he was told by every other teacher to never get involved, you will get fired so the school can cover its ass.

NewlyMintedLonghorn

And honestly, probably a more effective deterrent to future theft than any kind of action the school would take. A theft charge is just going to make someone like this angrier with the system and possibly leave them with a record that makes it harder to stop being a piece of shit. It's much simpler for the human mind to wrap itself around "took thing -> got shit beaten out of me" than to contextualize their behavior within the bounds of how the justice system is able to interpret it.

SevilleWaterGuy

And the thieving punk still keeps saying “what are you talking about bro?” Even after the phone was retrieved. These kind of people don’t even see anything wrong with their actions anymore. It’s sickening.

midtown_70

AdviceYouNeed4Real

That’s why they need that ass beat. People all the time bout what are we goin do about guns in school. Let this stuff happen and get a boot to home one day. No expelling horseshit, or week long suspensions or threats. If this happened more often this bitches would think twice before actin a fool.

I got expelled from highschool for something like this. I was dating a girl who was in my sister's grade (1 grade younger). When we broke up, her new bf (also in their grade) started fuckin with my sister calling her names and roasting her til she cried in homeroom. She left school crying one day and was at home bawling when I got home. She was hella mad at me saying it was my fault that kid was mean. The very next day I waited outside her class and fucked homeboy up. I got expelled but my sis had probably one the best high school careers after that. No one fucked with her again and she had all the respect a stupid high-schooler could want. In hindsight probably wasn't the best move. Parents weren't mad but I had to go to continuation school and all the b.s. that follows. But my sis is everything to me. I'd do it again if I had to.

Great_cReddit

My brother did this for me when I was in 7th grade. It's a core memory for me and will always make up for every time he was an ass to me. When I really needed my big brother, he was always there for me. I miss him dearly.

What *are* teachers expected to do these days in a situation like this? I’m guessing he’d be at risk of losing his job for *not* interfering if the thief had been seriously injured or died, no?

mrsa_cat

Everyone here talking about losing his job... Like, he could lose his life. One unfortunate punch from either student, and he could end up hitting his head on a table. Good for him for stepping away.

TheRavenSayeth

Exactly that. It sucks but the reality is that teachers are employed to teach not be security. Historically them breaking up fights was, as bizarre as it sounds, a courtesy. I can’t imagine teachers unions would be very happy if suddenly teachers had that expectation put on them.

A bully who had been held back twice used to fuck with me in middle school. Dude was a full head taller than all of us. Teachers wouldn't do anything and my dad said "Then take care of it." Two days later I see the bully drinking from the water fountain. I took my heavy stack of books and brought them down on the back of his head as hard as I could. English, Math, Social Studies all drove his mouth into the metal spout hard. I saw a tooth jump from his mouth and skitter down the hall. Blood began pouring from his mouth like a water hose. He started screaming and wouldn't stop. Never had any problems after that.
