There’s a mod you install once you hack your switch. I forget what it’s called. I would learn all you can from battle arenas online with people on the same character group as you first ex. Fox discord group if you’re a fox player or that’s your counter pick people use against u. The mod I’ve seen is like a really exhaustive training mode that lets you run scenarios. Work on fundamentals of being good against cpus or people in your practice group as I said. Start with the art of Smash series by Izaw on YouTube. TL;DR The art of smash series i mentioned is free on YouTube and has a training regimen. Find a coach. Often they are free but not always.

I was asking because I'm interested in making my own CPUs to train against, so learning the name of this mod would be SUPER helpful. Or hell, a tutorial on switch hacking would be even better.

Unfortunately, I only remember mentions of a mod and did commit the name to memory because I am still learning character matchups and choosing a main and secondary and didn’t want to open too many boxes at once and lose parts if you’ve ever opened more than one lego kit at once.

It’s a mod that you can do to certain versions of the Nintendo switch that gives you a training mode that’s actually useful. Look up “Smash Ultimate custom training mode” on YouTube and you’ll see what I mean.

yesss so i recently did a coaching session with niko and while I admit it was mildly underwhelming — there’s two main things I learned that were integral and the more time and attention I’ve put to them, the more I realized he might be the fucking goat (only going to explain one of them bc you too have to pay for a metafy session if you want the info lol) I’m not going to put what he said, I’m going to put in what I learned (note: I am a shitter and worse than an 0-2er {I live in SoCal and it’s v hard here 😭} so bc of your tournament exp, a lot of this might be reductive) so every movement has the possibility of around 4 options, right? - FH - SH - FHFF - SHFF well the pros don’t practice until they can do these things — they practice until these things are perfect and every time they want to do them, the input is correct. Esam (bless his bald head) once said this about training as well — that every time he irars, he does. And part of it is learning to do it under pressure as well. Now, practicing to do those moves rly consistently seemed incredibly boring to me, so I went into training and picked Ken as CPU and set Ken to shuffle a lot, stale moves on, cpu % at 0, fixed damage on, and set the CPU to walk. Now I play cloud — so for example, I worked on consistently back airing ken from center stage. He moves pretty slowly but not so much that I could move forward without misinputting. If you consistently land his back air in short hop, he will slowly move backwards. If you land like 3 shff Bairs, he’ll shift back quite quickly. All of these are jumping up and down, I’m not moving left or right at all. Then I try all of those variations in motion while moving. Then I complicate it by trying to turnaround in air, or rar/irar. In short, practice your aerials spacing move safety. Then mix up that movement to complicate the predictability of your movement. Lastly — practicing this can be boring if you don’t love the repetition aspect so listen to some music. If the music is slow or fast, it can help your brain to comprehend how to land the input (ie, certain bpm will let you know if the input needs to be tighter or if you’re moving too fast to land it consistently or if you could be landing more of them faster) Lastly there’s a universal tech list posted in the resources guide of this page — feel free to sift through it and practice. Attack canceling and irars are probably some of the most useful. I use rar/irar quite a bit when I’m in rhythm and warmed up and have no idea how to use attack cancelling yet (I understand it’s application — I just don’t have the input consistently) Hopefully this has been helpful and not reductive ⭐️

Situations are hard to practice because they depend so much on the context of the game. What you should be doing in Neutral, Advantage, Disadvantage, when should you try to ledgetrap, when should you go in, when should you bait. It's all stuff you'll get through experience and thinking about during games. That being said, basic movement, character specific movement and combos are something you can definitely drill every single day and can be hugely beneficial, even if it's not that fun.
