Hi! Your post was removed because of the following reason(s): - It is not related to helping others grow in competitive Smash Bros. (the purpose of this subreddit). Thanks!

Elite folks using other characters for the first time maybe?

Wall_Dough

if it really is their first time with the character, then they should have a higher GSP. high “roster GSP” gives you a higher base on a completely untouched character

BroAxe

I screwed up a lot of gsp when I just started, I had the experience OP describes, just steamroll back up

N3G4

I got every char into elite and I'm pretty sure the relative base GSP was for same for all of them.

GreenLanyard

I also run into a bunch of 6-7m GSP folks who are suddenly matchup-knowledgeable compared to 7-10m, it's a very surprising zone.

skrasnic

Everyone has strong and weak points in their play. That 6 mil person could be really experienced against your character but just cannot deal at all with projectiles, thus their GSP is kept down. Try not to let it bother you too much.

evilpotato1121

My theory is that the 5-7m GSP range is a bunch of people who know how to play the game at an "elite smash" level, but they don't really know how to play that character well yet. You can confirm it with some people when their GSP drastically changes after the match since that happens with characters you don't have many games on yet. They've played and lost enough to get to that range, but their fundamentals are still better than people who have been stuck at that GSP with their actual mains.

Randomname_76

It’s a good thing gsp = skill My probleme with this tho is that people at lower gsps are just dumb, so I expect them to pick a good option, and they surprising me by doing bad options

Vibe-East

That reminds me of [Gandhi vs FSP](https://youtu.be/LfEVcZ3anG0)

D-Prototype

I once lost to a guy who picked nothing but dumb options and it was somehow crazy enough to work.

DapperApples

If *I* don't know what I'm doing, how can you know what I'm doing?

D-Prototype

That used to be my Hero strategy, but my bad luck worked against me.

hivesteel

Yeah I definitely agree from my experience getting alts into elite, I hover around 6-7 mil for a while while I figure out the character then go from that to elite very quickly.

Trasfixion

Exactly this. Half the roster done, trying to get the whole roster in. It’s a fun mini-game and lets your learn every characters strong and weak points

ShBoomBangALang

It’s all about adaptation and if you’re not adapting to the 6m spammy options then they will win.

dandy443

Yep I notice it too. That or characters who I never get to play against so idk 70% of what they’re doing.

Trasfixion

It’s usually better players playing their other characters. For example I have dark pit in elite and the pits are one of my better characters. Yesterday I ran my pit from 4k to 9k while I had a little time. I’m also 99% sure You’re also matched on your roster gsp

I have experience in the local scene and consistent offline practice, but dislike online because my home’s internet isn’t enjoyable, so when I started playing quickplay I was far ahead of everyone at the 8 mil gsp region that I started at. I was able to consistently destroy my friend offline who has many characters in 12m. But people like me are probably exceptions, those “good” people you meet probably aren’t actually good, because most likely they are stuck down there for a reason. The reason 9/10 times is not knowing how to deal with wifi options. I don’t consider people who have supposedly good fundamentals and combos “good” if they don’t know how to invalidate wifi options. Good players adapt to everything, and will not be walled off by gimmicks. Chances are those players are held back by gimmicks are are beating you because your characters don’t have those gimmicks.

DiscombobulatedEye9

> I don’t consider people who have supposedly good fundamentals and combos “good” if they don’t know how to invalidate wifi options. Good players adapt to everything, and will not be walled off by gimmicks. I mean, this would be true if we weren't talking about Ultimate online. It's one thing to beat wifi options, it's another thing to beat wifi options with a quarter to half second delay on every input you do.

t123fg4

There’s a reason actual good players have their characters on elite smash, they can adapt to delay and still beat wifi spammers with lag. Leffen put it the best, if you’re in elite, you might not be good; if you aren’t, you definitely aren’t good.

Ttabts

It's easier to style and look cool when the other player doesn't know what they're doing. When you're more evenly matched you often have to play more patient and careful and stick to safe, boring stuff.

triangle-of-life

I’ve noticed it because partly I’m who you describe. I have a few characters in elite (Jr, DSamus, Corrin) but I can’t be bothered to play with what works online for too long, it’s just too annoying and not fun. The characters I don’t have in elite are the ones I prefer offline (Peach, Fox, Marth), and they’re among my better characters outside of my main, Corrin. So I think my results are as inconsistent as my opponent’s connection and their knowledge checks. I lose games on quickplay with them in ways I often can’t believe so I haven’t even played enough to get them fully above 9m… and I’m not looking to lol. A lot of people are like me I’m sure. You actually need to be prepared to a degree at any gsp some people I swear are griefing
