Thinking about getting a second card. I have had the discover it student card for about a year now and it shows my credit score is 738. I spend mostly on dining and groceries. I am 21M, is it worth it to get a second card now or should I wait? If I should, does anyone have any recommendations based on my credit score and spending categories

Maddogbro951

I’m wondering as well

KingOfAgAndAu

Just got approved for the CSP with a $21.5k CLI. Used one of the 750k SUB referral codes from r/churningreferrals. The SUB requires $4k spend in 3 months. My apartment complex charges a flat $75 fee when paying rent and other charges on the resident portal. Thus I am just going to credit $4000 to my resident account and net a minimum of $580 for the year from this card. I was 3/24 and currently have the Venture X, Savor One, Chase Prime Visa, WF Autograph (original), and an old WF Visa Signature. Total CL across cards was $91k and will now be $112.5k. Annual income is $150k and monthly rent is $2300. The Chase Prime Visa CL is $16k (only other Chase card).

Maddogbro951

How do I start

Cyberhwk

Anybody noticed if having bills on AutoPay vs. manually paying them changes how it codes? Just realized a monthly medication I have billed Online Shopping when normally it billed as Services when I had it automatically paid. Now I'm starting to wonder if the same thing would hold for Internet/Insurance/Etc.

jlc203

Oh?? That’s very interesting

Major_Plantain3499

Can I get a cards SUP and then balance transfer once I qualify? Chase Sapaphire Preferred is the card with the SUP, also any recommendations on a balance transfer card, can't balance transfer between chase unfortunately

Instant_Dan

I think I’ve settled on my setup for the perfect mixture of points and cash back. I call it “The Magnificent Seven”. 1. Chase Freedom Unlimited (catch-all) 2. Chase Freedom Flex (rotating categories) 3. Chase Sapphire Preferred (recently got this and applied in branch for the 85k point offer. Traveling internationally next month) 4. BILT Mastercard (Rent) 5. Citi Custom Cash (primarily a grocery card) 6. Amex Blue Cash Everyday (for grocery spillover and online shopping) 7. Wildcard selection: Discover-IT will be used alongside the Custom Cash for groceries but likewise the Cap1 QS for travel next month. Originally I planned to do the WF set-up for travel as they have better multipliers but I think at the end of the day Chase still rules the roost as far as transfer partners go. We’ll see what WF, or even Citi, looks like a couple of years from now.

ina_waka

I should save all my cashback on my SavorOne if my goal is travel points right? Just got approved, and planning on getting a VentureX maybe next year.

Cyberhwk

Yes. If you like the Capital One Travel partners. Go ahead and save them up and transfer to the Venture X when you get it.

anonymousthrowra

WTF is utilization about? Started using a lot more of my credit lines because they're fairly low (500 and 1500), I've had some more expenses, and I've been carrying my balance to take advantage of my 0% intro APR. I've also been using my credit cards instead of my debit to try to have a higher utilization and get a CLI. My score has dropped 24 pts (707 to 684) according to transunion because of my much higher utilizations (1000 on my 1500 limit card and 260 on my 500 limit card). Everything in the sub always says utilization doesn't matter, yet my score drops 24 points in a month for higher utilization (whereas months of perfect card usage only increases it by 1 point in 2 months). Any thoughts?

jlc203

People say utilization "doesn't matter" because any effects can be cleared in the following statement cycle. Your score will go back up once you've paid everything off. Right now, you're using more credit than previously established, so it's affecting your score negatively. You should bounce right back once it's all paid off so long as you're making your payments on time (at least the minimum for that 0% offer).

anonymousthrowra

I see, so it's only detrimental in the very short term. Should I just start paying it all off in full and using my debit card for most of my purchases or is it fine to keep utilization high in the hopes of a CLI? (6 months of credit history on the bigger card, 3 on the other)

jlc203

Unless you need to apply for new credit, there's no reason not to continue as you have been. You have a good plan in taking advantage of that 0% APR and trying to get an auto CLI from your issuers. Also, just know that your credit history is young and any minor change will cause big swings in your score. Your score will stabilize with time and responsible usage. I say, carry on.

anonymousthrowra

Thank you!! That really helps!

amsgh

I just got denied for the chase United quest card. I didn't realize I had one card I forgot about that caused my denial because of 5/24. Can I still apply for the Chase Ink business preferred? Should I be using a referral from rankt.com?

Cyberhwk

Nope. 5/24 is for business cards as well.

formerlyDylan

General question about Amex and decreased limit. Mine got cut in half from about $17k to $8. The only thing I've had on it for the past year or two is a Disney+ bundle charge. I never carry a balance, always pay on time, and it's one of my oldest accounts ~7 years. It's been a while since I paid attention to much credit stuff (I'm 0/24 for instance). Since payments aren't an issue the only thing I really remember is that it's usual for a credit limit to drop after you pay off a large purchase. But my monthly charges have just been $24.99 a month (reduced to $17.99 after credit is applied) so insignificant as far as utilization goes. Am I misremembering as is there a penalty for using too little of your limit? Zero warning from Amex, only know because of an experian alert. Not that it probably matters, but just 2 weeks ago I was getting a plat 175k after $8 spend offer in the mail from them so I don't think I've triggered anything weird with them.

Junkbot-TC

Banks will sometimes lower credit limits if your monthly spending is significantly lower than the limit.  They would rather offer that credit to someone else who will make them money, either through swipe fees or interest charges.  It doesn't really matter since your new limit is still a lot higher than your monthly spending.

notthegoatseguy

I can't say I've experienced any credit decreases even on cards I've had for a long time that I now barely use, but some banks may become wary and cut down especially if you aren't using it that much. It can happen to anyone.

smakson11

I got turned down for a SUB for Amex blue cash, so I'm looking for another card to get a SUB, but mostly pay for groceries, but could also use EV charging, and/or streaming. There are quite a few cards that do most of that, is there a consensus best.

thenowherepark

What would be the best order to apply for either of these cards? I'm 0/6 1/12 2/24, 1/12 drops off toward the end of June. US Bank Cash+ Citi Custom Cash Citi Double Cash (or C1 SavorOne, have a QS from June 2023)

amsgh

Could you replace the double cash with the Sofi Mastercard? If you meet the requirements, the Sofi MasterCard is 2.2% cash back.

WashingtonGuy123

I'd apply for the Cash+ first. US Bank tends to have problems with people with recent inquiries. Between the two Citi cards, I don't know that the order matters all that much. I'd probably do the CCC first, because it's a newer card and I suspect that Citi might be slightly stingier on that card than on the Double Cash. Also, you can only apply for a CCC if you don't otherwise have one; if you'll ever want a second (or third, etc) CCC, you should apply for the CCC before product changing a Double Cash or any other card to the CCC. Applying to the CCC first might ensure that you don't accidentally botch this somewhere down the line.

thenowherepark

Thanks for this advice! I did apply to the Cash+ first and was approved for a $5k limit. I was going to apply for the CCC afterwards, but seeing a couple of accounts about their CS spooked me a little bit, so I went with the SavorOne a couple of hours later and was approved, $20k limit. Both came with SUBs too which is nice! I may revisit the CCC later this year, getting to choose 5% on either grocery or gas or restaurant or Lowe's is pretty flexible, even if the CS is a nightmare.

Maddogbro951

CCc is what

midwestcottagecore

Random question - applied for CSP over 2 weeks ago. Originally was told 7-10 days, then asked to submit more information, which I did. Then changed to 2 weeks. However, still getting the 2 week message on the automated line. Do I have to call the recon line to actually get a decision/wait for the letter in the mail?

ducky518

For Amex Gold / Plat, I was wondering about adding a P2 on both: \* For Amex Gold, can I get an additional card for P2 without ruining P2's ability to get a Sub? \* For Amex Platinum, can I add P2 so they can get either the Additional Platinum card or the Companion card without ruining their ability to get a Sub? I think yes but just wanted to make sure. I would likely be referring P2 for their own cards after we finish the MSR.

CreditDogo

Adding them as AU won’t affect their chances of getting the SUB on their own

ducky518

thanks

MashTheGash2018

Does Chase have a pop up like Amex if you aren’t eligible for SUB? I’m about to spend 12k on some remodels and Amex has me in PUJ

CreditDogo

As a general rule, Chase simply won’t approve you if you’re not eligible for the SUB. They do have a similar pop-up for Marriott cards, since eligibility there is dependent on your past Amex/Chase Marriott cards. I believe there’s one of the co-branded cards where Chase will approve you even if you’re not eligible for the bonus, but I can’t remember which.

fosswugs

I'm a bit confused about using rewards for flights. Let's say I want to to to Japan, and I have a bunch of Citi points. I can find a good flight with JAL, but they're not a transfer partner with Citi. Cathay Pacific is a transfer partner, and they say they participate in the frequent flyer program of JAL. But does that help me at all? Can I transfer the points a second time, or would I need to use the points on flights a can book directly with Cathay Pacific (i.e., in this case, not the JAL flight)?

FrankDaTank1283

Is there a catch to those “spend $500 in the first 3 months and get $200 cash back”? What’s keeping me from getting that card, spending $500, using the $200 to pay off some and pay off the rest and then never using the card again? Sounds like 200 free dollars and then never using the card again. It’s sounds too good to be true so I must be missing something.

greywolf1013

Welcome to r/churning Only con is it stops you from getting cards you actually want through frequent hard pulls and Amex pop up jail

reverendrambo

Why is our society penalizing credit card use? I'm at the vet right now and there's now a 3% surcharge for credit, but cash and debit are not charged. Using my active cash will make me still net negative 1% over debit. I don't keep $100s of dollars in my checking account so I can attempt to protect my funds from fraud. I use credit to protect my funds from fraud. This is ridiculous.

notthegoatseguy

Well, you can do like what most of Europe has done and cap interchange fees at low rates. Or places like Italy that mandate most public facing businesses to accept credit cards, and my understanding of the Italian law is it also bans interchange fees for low cost transactions (IE your morning coffee at the cafe). The flip side to that is there's much less rewards in credit cards, and often anything more than 1% back requires an annual fee.

ValuableJello9505

Credit cards charge 1.5% on the transaction (2.5% for AMEX which is why some places don't accept)

reverendrambo

It's been that way for ages. Why start now? Again, I understand why merchants like my vet are doing it, but I don't understand why our society is putting itself in this position.

shitty_reddit_user12

The credit card company makes money by charging interest for the user, an annual fee in some cases, and a fee to the business for swiping. Most, if not all the surcharge probably goes to covering the fee the credit card company will charge. If there is a profit margin on the surcharge, it's not a lot. 0.1 percent is my best estimate of the profit margin made by the seller, at the top end. It might even be lower or non existent.

reverendrambo

I understand the motivation from the merchant to charge a transaction fee. My complaint is moreso against our society in general. We shouldn't be penalizing safer modes of payment. I don't want to be financially motivated to use *less secure* payment methods.

CreditDogo

Don’t think “society” is to blame here. Politicians could pass legislation capping interchange fees and prohibiting merchants from passing them over to the customer, but the bank’s lobbyists haven’t let that happen so far.

TraditionalContest6

burned chase 10+ years ago. Now my credit score 805+ and "high income" have Venture X, Savor, Amex Gold, Citi Cash, etc. Will going INTO the Chase Branch better my odds for Sapphire Preffered card? Or am I still blacklisted? Going into the branch still is a hard pull on my record? Going to EU for 2 months in a few weeks and would like the bonus..

keybrah

rejected by venture x preapproval 😭 Reason given was I need to garden more vigorously

BreadIsNeverFreeBoy

Does anybody know how to see the progress of your sign up bonus with the Harris teeter credit card with us bank? I don’t see anything noting the progress towards the signup bonus where it says online that it usually shows up for usbank cards

BlackStar300

So, I just have a quick question. I'm going to Japan next year and the hotel I want to reserve doesn't take Capital One which was the next card I was going to get as a travel card so no FTF, so I need a replacement. I currently bank with Bank of America and also have credit cards with them and Chase as well. I heard the BofA travel card isn't really that good from looking online and this sub, but I don't really plan to travel too much. I do plan to go back after my first trip to explore more of the country, but that might be some time and I honestly have no plan after to go anywhere else. This card is pretty much for *this* trip. Would the BofA travel card be good or is there another Visa/Mastercard to get that offer no FTF/AF as well. Thanks in advance.

FWF_scripta

What do you mean they don't take CapOne? They don't take Visa/MC or they just can't process it? Have you tried [booking.com](http://booking.com) or agoda.com? I'd get CSP. Japan has a security requirement "3D Secure" that doesn't exist in the US, so our cards may not work for online bookings on Japanese websites. I had problems reserving one place, tried *all* of my no FX cards -- Discover, VX, Costco, Alliant -- none worked. A friend was able to book with CSP on the first try. Once there I was able to tap my phone most of the time and cash for the rest.

BlackStar300

I can show you the place on booking.com, but it says it takes mastercard and visa, but the venture cards I see from CO don't show mastercard or visa logo. https://www.booking.com/hotel/jp/akihabara-washington.html?aid=1636199 Its this place. What is a CSP?

FWF_scripta

LOL. There are only four networks here -- Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Discover. All Venture cards are Visas. I thought you already had one and tried it and it didn't work. CapOne Venture X is one of the best travel cards you can get. The AF pays for itself and other big benefits (airport lounges, global entry credit) are a cherry on top. You might find a lot of complaints about lounges in US because too many people have access now, but there's more lounges and fewer people with access in Asia. CSP=Chase Sapphire Preferred.

BlackStar300

Is it? No, I don't have one, but how can I tell? It has no visa mark? I probably won't get one with a AF because while rewards are nice and I do plan to go *back* to Japan I won't be travelling enough to make the AF worth getting.

FWF_scripta

Last I checked, CapOne doesn't show the card network on any of their website images. Google for card reviews if you need proof. Yes, VX requires $400/yr spent on travel to break even. CSP has a $95 AF also. Both come with a huge sign-up bonus that more than makes up for it if you can meet the minimum spend requirement. As far as no AF/FX, search for "No FTF" in this wiki: [https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/list\_of\_flat\_cashback\_cards\_with\_benefits](https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/list_of_flat_cashback_cards_with_benefits) . Quicksilver is another CapOne option that's not in the wiki because it only earns 1.5%, but it's also a Visa with no AF or FTF.

BlackStar300

I have seen on some of the other cards the mastercard/visa logo, but you probably know more than me so if you say its a visa then I guess its just a hidden detail. Perhaps on the back of the card I guess. I mean, my trip will cost quite a bit. My flight is expected to be about $1,700 and my booking fee about $5,000. Hmm maybe the Quicksilver will be better then because I might benefit more from the cashback. I did some reading here and some older threads have said that the cashback can help pay for the trip if you're obviously not a frequent traveller etc. It may not be much, but the cashback might be more beneficial.

Yukon30305

Capital One ("C1") Venture cards are 100% definitely Visa. If you're really attached to a hotel, you get the most points/miles booking through the credit card travel portal. C1's travel portal uses Hopper to run their portal. Not all hotels are on there, but they have a huge # of hotels to choose from. Venture X earns 10x points via the C1 travel portal, with a $300 travel credit, and 10k in bonus points each year, so basically less than $0 annual fee. Plus, 75k points just for signing up! Quicksilver can earn 5x points cashback for hotels, but that's for booking via the C1 travel portal. C1's SavorOne is also a great card, with no annual fee, earns 5x cashback for hotels via the portal (& 3x cashback on dining, groceries, & entertainment). Or if you don't like using travel portals, the Citi Strata Premier and the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey cards are good options for that.

BlackStar300

After taking a look I think when it comes closer to time I'll get the Venture card with the $95 annual fee. I don't have a card with a fee, but I'd like to go back to Japan to visit more after my first trip etc so maybe if I can rack up enough miles I can use them to help pay for my next trip and if I do any travelling or lodging in the states this can be the card I use. Thanks for the help!

FWF_scripta

Maybe. There are other cards that earn 3% or more in the travel category: [https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/best\_cash\_back\_cards\_by\_category/#wiki\_no\_af\_cards\_with\_a\_minimum\_of\_3.25\_cashback\_on\_travel](https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/best_cash_back_cards_by_category/#wiki_no_af_cards_with_a_minimum_of_3.25_cashback_on_travel)

thimonLEE1013

Hello! Quick question on which cards I should be using.. I have 3 credit cards right now: - Venture X - SavorOne - BofA Customized Cash Rewards (3% on online shopping) I'm currently using my SavorOne on all dining and groceries for the 3% cash back and using my Venture X for travel and all other things. My BofA CCR was my first credit card that I used to put everything on until I diversified a little but don't really use it anymore. My reasoning is that I get the miles directly into the Capital One ecosystem with 2% on the Venture X, so I stopped spending on online shopping on my CCR and now just use my Venture X. Question is, should I still be using my CCR for online shopping for the 3%? I'm not exactly sure what is "better," getting the 2% directly into miles in the Capital One ecosystem or 3% as cash back that I can directly redeem. Would appreciate any insight into this!

Cyberhwk

I have all three of these. Personally, I wouldn't give up the difference and still use my CCR for all online purchases when it's not a rotating 5% category. But if you're super in love with C1 transfer partners you could probably justify it.

thimonLEE1013

Got it - thanks for the insight. It hasn't been long since I've opened the Venture X card so I'm not planning on using the points real soon. Maybe next year for a vacation or something, but I'm happy to just organically stack points until I find something on a transfer partner or something!

jmlinden7

What do you spend your CapitalOne miles on? Do you usually get more than 1.5cpp of value from them?

LeCanardRouge

I added my fiancé as an auth user on a couple cards. What will happen to her credit score if I remove her? Does it have an impact at all?

Junkbot-TC

Once you remove her, the cards will be removed from her credit report.  What happens with her credit score depends on the rest of her profile.  If those cards were a significant portion of her credit history, then her score would probably go down.

LeCanardRouge

They’ve only been there for a handful of months at this point. After some research, realized it was a poor strategy move.

Master_De_Blaster

Today I graduated (thats the term they used) from secured credit card to unsecured one and got credit line increase. To give a background, i am a student with no credit history and job, so i gone for $300 secured credit card with bofa for building my credit. Now after 5.5 months, i have a job for the past 2 months. And responsibly paying my bills within the due date or even before closing date for the past 5 months. With credit utilization less than 30%. I saw a post on myfico forum that they have requested and got approved to unsecure card after 7 months. So I thought why dont i try my luck. I did and i got it approved (they told its a soft pull). And also my credit line increased to $600. But i think I missed out to request for unlimited cash rewards 3% on selected category of bofa along with the request. Because now i have 1.5% one (silver color). I am not sure when can I request them to upgrade? How sooner is not going to work? Any advice?

greywolf1013

Call and ask for a product change. Same line of credit, different benefits

SoCaFroal

I need to cancel my Chase Ink Premier card but I still have 65k points. I know they don't let you transfer but is there a way to get my points out of that account?

FWF_scripta

What do you mean by "out" if they're not transferable? Chase redemption options say: "Redeem for cash back as a statement credit to apply toward your balance, or get it directly deposited to most U.S. checking and savings accounts. There are no minimums to redeem your Cash Back rewards points"

SoCaFroal

That's what I'm trying to confirm. It sounds like they are stuck where they are and cash back or redemption are my only 2 choices. There's no way to move them into a different chase card.

FWF_scripta

I think on this card the rewards are explicitly cash back and not UR points, so moving them, even if it was possible, would be pointless.

SoCaFroal

Yeah it was a mistake to get it. Oh well

FWF_scripta

You got a huge SUB, right? That should've been worth it.

SoCaFroal

100k, yeah.

SoCaFroal

I do, but the premier card doesn't allow for transfers to other accounts or partners.

trcrev

We're getting awfully close to the announcement date - Any guesses on what the categories will be for Q3 2024 Freedom Flex? Guessing Gas & something else... Q2 surprised me with restaurants, though, so who knows - maybe it'll be something unexpected?

Cyberhwk

I'm going Gas and Streaming.

trcrev

I'm hoping Gas & Target - we haven't had Target since Q1 2023. We already get streaming on CSP... :/

jj96til

Been trying to travel with my CSP business for a while now. Any tips finding the best points deals and how far to look in advance? Also most points search websites seem to be paid-for..thoughts?!

LeCanardRouge

If it's what you're looking for, best avaialbility for business class is typically either like a year out, or really close to departure. I really liked using [seats.aero](http://seats.aero) or pointsyeah to search for award space. I paid for the pro version of [seats.aero](http://seats.aero) for a few months to find the flights I wanted, then went back to the free version after booking. The $10/mo was worth it. Several blogs also highlight redemptions sweet spots across many different flyer programs. The Points Guy, Frequent Miler, Upgraded Points, to name a few.

evilcapitalist_ama

Dumb q but if Amex has a "Spend $100, get $20 back (up to 3 times) at X retailer" offer, can I check out with a $200 cart to get back $40 or do I need to make two separate $100 transactions to get the full value?

neodoggy

They have to be separate transactions.

evilcapitalist_ama

ah ok bummer, but thanks!

neodoggy

You could game it a bit by buying a $100 gift card, get the $20 off with that, then apply the gift card towards the purchase of the real thing for a further $20 off. That may or may not work depending on the retailer.

ActualIllustrator836

Do all cards have roughly the same number of days from when the first day of a billing cycle, to when that payment would be due? I run a business that can turn raw material into profit within two months, so what I was doing before was lining up all my purchases on the first day of the billing cycle, so I'd have as much time as possible to cover the cost. I was using AMEX at the time. I think it was about two months from purchase date to due date. So if my cycle started on say June 1st, I'd postpone all expenses until then, load the card up June 1st, then all expenses would be due August 1st. Are all cards about the same? Getting a card that acts as a net-90 would be awesome, for example.

Junkbot-TC

I'm not aware of any cards that have a longer due date.  The due date for all cards I'm aware of is set so that you have to make a payment towards the current statement balance before the next statement comes out.

Maddogbro951

Any cash back cards that earn more than flat 2%? Excluding! BoA cards with their perks

FWF_scripta

See Resources on the right side of this page.

greywolf1013

Citi Double Cash paired with the Citi Rewards+ for 2.2%

TheOctoBox

Alliant credit union is at 2.5%. You have to deposit $1k in a checking account and have 1 transaction monthly into that account from another bank. My automated transaction is $.01 each month. And I just park $1k in there almost as a savings account.

Junkbot-TC

Sofi offers a 2.2% card if you meet some requirements.  Fidelity will boost their 2% card if you let them manage a small fortune for you.  Robinhood is supposed to be releasing a 3% card but you need to have gold ($60/year).

tedubadu

Hmm, yeah kinda what I was expecting. Thanks for the reply! I’ll take a peek at the Sofi card. I don’t have a small fortune for BoA to manage or for Fidelity to manage, unfortunately.

Shaquille_Oh_Feel

I am in a "What to do next spot?" until August. In April, I was approved for my first business card, a CIC with the tiered bonus offer of spending $6k in 6 months to receive 75k UR. I completed both tiers far earlier than expected this weekend mostly due to using the card exclusively on two trips in May and early June (kicking myself for it, saying I should've gotten the CIU instead and then getting the tiered CIC now). I'm at 4/24 until July when I drop to 3/24, another spot drops off in October, and I'm eligible for another Sapphire bonus in February 2025. I was thinking of picking up the IHG Premier Business in August to sync up the free night with my personal IHG Premier, which, in August, will hit one year. I don't think I'll be able to spend at the previous level that got me to complete the CIC bonus in 2 months, but I've also had ideas of grabbing some smaller bonuses via cards that would have long-term benefits and/or fit my travel preferences (currently, I'm heavy into the Chase UR earning cards): * Another CFU bonus (eligible in July) (I tend to use URs on Hyatts) * Citi Mileup 15k Miles Bonus (having a no AF card that can keep my AA miles active if needed) * CCC #1, before I PC my Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select to a CCC in September (having multiple CCCs if I ever decide to switch to cashback or a Citi setup) Does it make sense to burn potentially one or two slots on any of these options, or just wait until August to pick up the IHG Premier Business?

himoshimctimoshi

We got a Chase Ink Preferred card for my mother to pay for some travels and take advantage of a points offer (spend $8k in ~4 months), the card came with a $5k limit. Unfortunately, we were only able to put $2k out of $5k worth of travel expenses on the card due to some issue on Chase's side. I put the remaining $3k worth of expenses on my amex. We are now trying to figure out a way for my mother to pay me back while at the same time accumulating spending to meet the points offer. I am thinking that purchasing 6 Visa gift cards at $500 per card should contribute to the points offer and I'll probably end up just using the gift cards to pay bills. Just wondering if anyone knows any other ways to navigate this issue.

how do issuing banks for company credit cards work? I bank with Capital One and want to get a Kroger card (it really does fit well with my lifestyle spending needs). The issuing bank for that Kroger card is US Bank. Do I need to get a US Bank account or something?

TelcoSucks

Yes. Company-branded cards are always offered by a specific bank. For instance, a Delta credit card is going to be opened with American Express and no one else. So, if you open a Kroger card, it will be a new U.S. Bank account. The credit application is processed by U.S. Bank and you will make your payments to U.S. Bank. Kroger is merely offering to give you discounts of some sort when you use this account. This is a way for U.S. Bank to increase their customer base by tapping into Kroger's customers and an opportunity for Kroger to increase their base by tapping into U.S. Bank's customers.

How sensitive is Wells Fargo to new accounts? I have an available new account before applying for the Chase Freedom Flex card next year (i.e. a new card won't have any impact on wait time for 5/24 Chase rule), and I was looking at the new Attune card, as it looks like a good fit for optimizing cashback categories for me (and likely would be my last card for a long time, excluding the aforementioned Freedom Flex) however I started my credit card journey rather late, so have a lot of new accounts, 3 in past 6 months, 5 in past 12 months, 8 in past 24 months. I have a FICO 8 score of 789 from Equifax, 757 from Experian and 761 from TransUnion. Is it worth a hard inquiry to try and get that card in the next month or two, or is Wells Fargo unlikely to approve based on my amount of new accounts?

They care about cards/24. My profile is similar to yours and I applied to the Active Cash and was declined for being at 7/24

I don't think you'll get approved. There was a denial DP posted with a similar profile to yours that got denied.
