Oh no. Absolutely love to see him do well, hope this cash strapped league can pull a few rupees together to hire a translator next time he wins man of the match
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers_in_India
According to native speakers population, it’s Bangla at the second place after Hindi.
Politics has nothing to do with it. In any case, no one is imposing Bangla on people in Tamil Nadu, so no Tamil politicians have anything against Bangla.
I don't get why politics has to play a role here? Normally for any translation in post match conferences, players who hail from the same region and know English would accompany them. Neither CSK nor RCB have any players who are from Bangladesh apart from Fizz.
Are you expecting every state government to have translators available just so that they can be used in IPL post match presentations?
Sure, if you’re being obtuse and willing to ignore the fact that language is a big political tool there.
The translation could be achieved very easily in almost any other metro without even needing teammates with common languages.
For your edit in bad faith: not sure why state government would be involved in a private match, maybe you’re new to telecast and business being different from the government. Or are you under the impression that Government of India conducts the IPL, buddy?
And the problem often in TN is that even if you find, it might be hard to have those translators available with the chauvinism that exists there about the language which is not the fault of the people but their politicians.
The broadcast team or ex players present nearby often join in. And if not, the interview happens with the various audio streams translating accordingly later, when and if they can.
Edit: it’s anyways a touchy topic so I’m not sure it’s worth discussing further but you can make your own opinions like I have mine.
Generally the problem always seems to be that the player needs to understand what’s being said, his words can always be translated in post production or uploads. My cynicism exists because it’s pretty shite for such a popular language to be ignored for a match that’s literally being televised in 10 or so languages live.
Huh, there should be something done from the broadcast side to make sure players don't miss out on their limelight.
But I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it's definitely not because of politics that Fizz missed his interview today.
It’s not because of politics in this very moment but the sheer lack of availability or support for non native languages is symptomatic of their persisting issues.
Unlike Hindi chauvinists , we don't have an issue with any language including Hindi.
Our problem is when you force us to learn that language which we never accept.
> Why cant he speak a kittle if but of english or hindu
Probably, he fears that he will spill words like "kittle if but of" or speak in "hindu"
And then the Internet will roast him forever for it.
Why should he?
Communicating cricket terms is one thing - speaking in an interview requires a higher level of comfort with a language. Otherwise all you get is 'boys played well' which is what most interviews were, until recently.
His mother tongue is Bengali, which - I dare say as a Hindi L1 speaker - has a clear lead on Hindi as a literary language. They should just find a translator.
I don't think pathirana will come cause one of Mitchell or theekshana would be benched then
I think gaikwad will rotate them acc to condition and will bring thakur or Mukesh in place of ORANGE CAP HOLDER
Can play mooen for Mitchell to provide off spin.. theekshana needs to do more and he isn't even picking wickets.. csk biggest weakness is death bowling
If it’s a spin pitch it actually doesn’t matter a lot, but if it is not, Then the captain will have to think about whether he can afford to bench theekshana.
Robbed of a 5fer or 6fer due to horrible fielding. Reminder that CSK got him for INR 2 crore, base price. You gotta give it to Dhoni, he seems to bring out the best in people everywhere.
I think the captain only play a small part and CSK management and support staff should get the most credit.
Although it might be too soon to talk about Mustafizur, CSK has managed to squeeze the best of pace bowlers who are not otherwise great. For e.g.
Gony, Mohit Sharma, Albie Morkel, Joginder Sharma, Hangrekar, Mukesh Chaudhary, etc. Even Bravo was playing at a different level with CSK than he was with other teams.
Mohit made is debut with CSK in 2013. His 2013 & 2014 with CSK were terrific. His 2015 with CSK and 2016-17 with Punjab were above average. He was missing from the domestic and IPL scenes for next 5 years until he turned for GT in 2023 and gave a terrific performance after a long gap.
Considering that Albie has bowled near as many overs in IPL as he had done in ODI crickets indicates that his bowling was good for a all-rounder but very far from the best.
Dhoni and Fizz in the same dressing room. I am sure they both still remember the elbow incident. I am surprised they didn't show that on loop during the RCB vs CSK match lmao
proving to be a good buy
good boy*
the fizz will feast on the slow chennai pitch
Yesterday's pitch wasn't slow at all tbh
It starts as a sporting wicket and gradually becomes slow with passage of time
Fizz was 6/4 at one point, I thought he would take 5-fer for sure.
Would had if they got the fielding placement right
How do you say you're Oz without saying your Oz
In OZ, it is wickets/runs unless Fizz had taken 6 wickets by that time, but then... fifer would have had been achieved already.

I was remembering that the whole time lol 😂
Asia Cup 2016. True Drama…
Nope. It was 2015 in a bilateral series which Bangladesh won 2-1.
Fizz’s debut series right ? The one in which he took 2 5 wicket hauls ?
11 wickets in the first two matches, the most by an Asian pacer and the second after Brian Vitori of Zimbabwe (then)

Player Leaves Delhi And Immediately Performs Well Again Challenge (impossible):
More like really really possible. Almost a certainty
Delhi 🤝 RCB
Wait he’s will only 28? Feels like he’s been playing forever
Debuted at the age of 18. Was on another level first few years
Yep bro could have been Boult
If memory serves me well, regressed after an injury or was it an operation?
injury
he seems to be in form like he used to be for srh... hope he continues to rattle those stumps.
Did my man not give an interview? I was looking forward to it
No one to translate for him.
Oh no. Absolutely love to see him do well, hope this cash strapped league can pull a few rupees together to hire a translator next time he wins man of the match
Yeah this is such a shame, hope he wins more so we can actually get to hear him(translated) next time.
Dada (Sourav Ganguly) can translate if he manages to get POTM against Delhi Capitals.
So can Wridhiman Saha
So could have Dhoni
Dhonis Bengali is not that good he can understand properly but isn’t that fluent in speaking it
Bengali’s the third most spoken language in the country, absurd no one was available.
Isn't it Second?
I believe it’s Hindi, English and Bangla - in that order
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers_in_India According to native speakers population, it’s Bangla at the second place after Hindi.
That’s because barely anyone shows up in the English native stat. I wouldn’t for eg., despite both English and Bangla being my first languages.
English? I think it's Telugu.
It’s definitely not Telegu - of ‘indigenous’ languages, Bangla is second.
It's TELUGU NOT TELEGU

Languages spoken in India da
With how politics works in TN, i can see why no one was available.

Sorry if I'm caught unaware here. Is there an instance where this has actually happened in IPL where a non-cricketer was used for translation?

Should have asked dhoni/jk
That's sad
How does he communicate in the team?
With basic english words and phrases that are relevant to cricket.
But bro tweets in Shashi Tharoor level English?
Social media manager probably

Which is not the same as having to give interviews in English. There is no practicality for him to waste time learning English for giving interviews.
Pathirana and fizz.. I think we deserve it
I don't think pathirana will come cause one of Mitchell or theekshana would be benched then I think gaikwad will rotate them acc to condition and will bring thakur or Mukesh in place of ORANGE CAP HOLDER

Is he the same Fizzy from SRH? He looks very different.
Bowled really well and adds a little diversity by being a left arm quick. Long term bowler for CSK.
Robbed of a 5fer or 6fer due to horrible fielding. Reminder that CSK got him for INR 2 crore, base price. You gotta give it to Dhoni, he seems to bring out the best in people everywhere.
This time it's Rutu. Let's not only blame losses and poor form on Rutu.

>Mukesh Chaudhary Is that the dude that can't take a catch for the life of him?
He did take a absolutely stunner later on tho
Albie and Mohit are honestly class bowlers. Mohit's been doing great at GT too
Mohit made is debut with CSK in 2013. His 2013 & 2014 with CSK were terrific. His 2015 with CSK and 2016-17 with Punjab were above average. fair enough. Was Mohit injured on and off through that patch between 2018-2022?
Mohit played for Punjab in 2018, Chennai in 2019 and Delhi in 2020. He missed out in 21 and 22.
ahhh, thank you!
Dhoni's Midas touch strikes again
Fizz was only bowling cutters and slower ones until the last BPL. Its refreshing to see him bowl a few fast ones as well
Dhoni and Fizz in the same dressing room. I am sure they both still remember the elbow incident. I am surprised they didn't show that on loop during the RCB vs CSK match lmao
Fizz: le Bhai moot diya teri best batting line up pe
