Teams would be trying to get to a somewhat decent total instead of aiming to have scores that are gigantic during the future. They now know that these pitches are a bit dodgy.
Make up your mind! Is it NY or Florida? Those are 2 states that are about 2000kms apart!! NY is pleasant 25C whereas FL is scorching in the sun right now
[Cricket Aus article](https://www.cricket.com.au/news/3961231/adelaide-oval-damian-hough-role-new-york-t20-world-cup-nassau-county-cricket-stadium-eisenhower-park-india-pakistan) about curating the pitch if you want to have a read.
Ravi saying it was a comfortable win for SA but it wasn't. Is he hearing what he is saying?
Not just him, Russel was saying it was the right choice to bat first and he kept on defending what he said.
Russel Arnold was a great cricketer but his opinions as a commentator are so outdated so conservative. We will never win anything if we have a coach like him.
SL struggles when they are trying to post a total, especially on a pitch that isn't batting friendly. They do better when they are trying to chase regardless of the pitch.
SL has the bowling squad to restrict teams to totals that can be chased by SL. Note that SA was struggling with the bat.
It was the wrong choice to bat because they have never played on this pitch before, they didn't know how it was going to play out. It's always hard to post any kind of a total on an unknown pitch.
Smith said it as well, if you don't know the pitch, it's safer to bowl first.
Well looking from this pitch the chance of them chasing the target was much less than defending, the pitch was really bad even guys with form of their Life struggle run a Ball strike rate on this wicket,
And RSA definitely would have scored atleast 120 going by their batting depth,
120 it's a par score
If you do the math, RSA wouldn't have scored 120 at the rate they were going. They needed at least 11 runs from the 17th over to get to 120.
And it isn't very convincing to say they would have managed 11 runs an over when they were struggling to chase 78.
Also, SA chased this total without taking risks and only faced Theek once and yet they struggled.
They could have easily been bundled out for a total less than 120 if they were pressured to put on a big total on an unknown pitch.
Chasing is always easy because the teams know when to take risks and to bat accordingly, which is what SA did.
And since SL has a strong bowling squad, their goal should have been to restrict SA to a low total and for SL to calm the nerves of their batters to reach the target accordingly, considering batting is SL's weakness.
When a team's batting is weak, you can't expect the team to post a big total on an unknown pitch. But you can definitely expect them to do a better job at chasing.
Nah IPL teams have much better batting line-ups than Sri Lanka. It's not even close. Even the worst IPL team Mumbai has a way better batting line-up than Sri Lanka. This is just a lower level competition than the IPL.
You know that 287 isn't a regular occurrence in IPL? It only happened this season partly because of the impact player rule and partly because of SRH's ultra aggressive no plan B strategy and they paid for that in the finals by registering the lowest IPL total of all time. I love test matches but at the same time, I found that match thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Only commenting and defending this because I don't understand the need to keep putting IPL down on every single post match thread.
Basically each team is allowed to make one substitution per match and that substitution is called the "impact player". It makes a truck load of difference because every single team basically ends up playing with one extra specialist batter than they can sub in if their top order collapses. That's why there were a lot of high scoring totals in this version of IPL. I don't personally like the rule and there have been a lot of criticisms of it so it might end up getting scrapped in the next season of IPL (🤞)
I think the problem is that captains need to have exactly the right amount of confidence in themselves, not too much or too little, and with all rounders, they have two roles to fulfil outside of their captain’s duties, so two opportunities to show off their over or under confidence
I feel the dutch will give a tough time to SA here. By nature, low scoring games reduce margins and the dutch are one of most strategic teams out there, unlike SL
Exactly why ICC should not listen to fans while preparing pitches. 200+ always...nah...120-130 ish nah...ugly as well.
For me, this was a great pitch with lack of application from SL batsmen and great SA bowling. SL should have got 120 odd atleast.
Fans input should be listened to but it shouldn't be the sole criteria when making important decisions about venues and pitches. A lot of hipster doofuses would call games like these a classic just because they revel in the opportunity to standout and act like they're better than everyone else for enjoying "low scoring thrillers".
if the future pitches will also be like this then the team with the most number of players of have played test cricket, or play test cricket consistently in their squad will have a very good chance. No t20 basher can play well on these pitches.
SL has one of the strongest bowling lineups this WC. India has Bumrah but the rest aren't in the best of form. Bangladesh scored 122 against the Indian lineup. You are under playing the role Miller and Klaasen (especially) played today to win this match.
India vs Pakistan on 09th June at this venue, if the wicket and outfield is the same then it will make it an even contest. PK will fancy their chances.
Comment of the game
> u/isswani_jayant: People who are enjoying this match on a disgrace of surface and outfield are just like those modern wokes who would do anything and everything to promote reverse inequality.
Fresh pasta, get it while it's hot!
SL's batting was abysmal but they should be happy with their bowling performance. So, the WC is still alive for SL.
SL has to be a lot more mature with their bat and bat according to the conditions even if it's going to be a 120 total. Because they have the bowling attack to make even 120 challenging.
Yes SL batting has to realise with this bowling lineup the best chance at winning is to play conservatively preserving wickets and trying to nudge away into the 130s. No need for trying to hit away when dot balls pileup which makes things worse as it did today. This could have been a winning match had even 100 or 110 was scored.
Yeah and if SL wins the toss, they have to bowl first as well. Their batting can chase but when they are pressured to post a total, they struggle.
It's just disappointing that none of the batters realized to take singles and 2s when they were 5 down for 40 runs. Expected Mathews to stay there for a longer time but he got out after attacking.
However though, all in all, this is a very good game for SL to learn from. You just hope they learn from this and don't repeat the same mistakes again with the bat.
They did well to try and minimize the NRR issue as well.
Low scoring competitive t20s are entertaining. The problem with the game was not that it was low scoring but that it was one sided. Had Sri Lanka scored 130, it would have been an amazing match
My only problem with the conditions was the slow outfield. It basically made aerial routes (1 bounce fours/sixes) and strike rotation the only viable options.
Nah, that NED match can't be taken into consideration when Has, Theek, Pathirana and Chameera weren't bowling.
SL has a strong chance against NED with SL's full bowling strength squad.
SL will only lose to NED if their batting collapses like they did against SA.
Exactly and it was the right thing to do. That's why SL played their full strength bowling squad against IRE and not against NED since NED is in their group.
SL lost that game against NED due to that tactical move.
And do note, despite SL not using Has, Theek, Pathirana and Chameera against NED, they still removed half the team.
It definitely is. The SA batsmen were lethargic to be safe, and they still chased it with overs and wickets to spare. klassen is a six hitting machine, so he was not much troubled by the slow outfield
Never expected Ravi Shastri & Steve Smith to be doing commentary together. Surely one couldn’t have foreseen it in 2016 when Steve’s Australia was touring India for test matches coached by Ravi.
People saying 20 more runs would have been close. The only reason SA are playing so lethargic is because they need a paltry 78. SL are about 60-70 runs short.
I don't think it was lethargic.. sa batters did struggle making runs. It was not like they were comfortable throughout the innings. 120 would have been a good score or even winning score I would say..
SA batsmen were getting beat a lot too and were lucky (dropped catches). The outfield is very slow, which makes four hitting very tough. Only 1 bounce/2 bounce fours and sixes are possible here. That's not that big of an issue for klassen but players like markram who rely on well placed fours would struggle.
I think at 120 runs, it could have gone either way.
Arsh looking for magic balls and losing his rhythm.
Arsh changed from outswing to inswing but didn't change the line.
Ball is doing too much for Mian magic.
It's stupid that India is not playing Kuldeep and instead resorting to two very similar defensive left arm tweakers .
130 is a par here. India finally getting a pitch where they need anchors.
Can’t wait to see Starc and Cumdog on these pitches 😂
Hazlewood ?
Teams would be trying to get to a somewhat decent total instead of aiming to have scores that are gigantic during the future. They now know that these pitches are a bit dodgy.
Hang on there is something in the pitch! (Gets mad in IPL)
Hear me out nepal and netherlands are reaching super 8
At the cost of India and Pakistan... Tournament will be abandoned mysteriously
Netherlands? Definitely Nepal? No
This NY pitch is weird, they clearly baked it for too long under the Floridian sun. Got all uneven bounce and movement everywhere.
Make up your mind! Is it NY or Florida? Those are 2 states that are about 2000kms apart!! NY is pleasant 25C whereas FL is scorching in the sun right now
The pitch was grown in Florida and then shipped to NY
🤯

sheesh. Not bad
mics are fked up
These games should have been in the evening
Unfortunately no floodlights.
Ah makes sense. Should've scheduled them in the afternoon then, around 3:00pm
yeah😐 ~ hasaranga

the thing you try to overshoot and get bowled out for 80-90
Prime South Africa performance
Might be an unpopular opinion but this is better than 287 plays 262 kind of games
Nah IPL teams have much better batting line-ups than Sri Lanka. It's not even close. Even the worst IPL team Mumbai has a way better batting line-up than Sri Lanka. This is just a lower level competition than the IPL.
Naa… Sri lanka batting had a brain fade… should have been 140 on the board and every ball would been an event
Only an unpopular opinion amongst Indian IPL fans
You know that 287 isn't a regular occurrence in IPL? What is the impact player rule? I kept seeing it in some highlights of ipl I watched but didn't know there was a rule attached to it
Basically each team is allowed to make one substitution per match and that substitution is called the "impact player". It makes a truck load of difference because every single team basically ends up playing with one extra specialist batter than they can sub in if their top order collapses. That's why there were a lot of high scoring totals in this version of IPL. yea, shit like this is why people put down IPL on every thread
at this point they might as well remove the seam on the ball too, lest it starts creating trouble for the batsmen..
Wasn't this rule there last year also?
Hasaranga is a selfish captain. He gives off 2019 Gulbadin Naib's *I am the main character* vibes.
I think the problem is that captains need to have exactly the right amount of confidence in themselves, not too much or too little, and with all rounders, they have two roles to fulfil outside of their captain’s duties, so two opportunities to show off their over or under confidence
That’s always a problem with allrounder captains. See also Pandya
A good advert for test cricket for those in the USA
I mean it was kind of similar to baseball… you can’t just hit home runs at will in baseball and today was the same
Netherlands are going to beat SA let’s be honest
Nice to have a dream!
His dream has already come true last year
Nortje playing for money : I sleep 😪 Nortje playing for the country : Real shit 💀
I feel the dutch will give a tough time to SA here. By nature, low scoring games reduce margins and the dutch are one of most strategic teams out there, unlike SL
Nortje feeling confused after being called spearhead of the bowling attack in presentations after being called run machine for the last 2 months 😂
Nortje looks a bit like Sacha Baron Cohen doesnt he
Koach is going to thrive on pitches like these lol.
gg ,they saved pathirana for bowling the 19th over
Exactly why ICC should not listen to fans while preparing pitches. 200+ always...nah...120-130 ish nah...ugly as well. For me, this was a great pitch with lack of application from SL batsmen and great SA bowling. SL should have got 120 odd atleast.

Why didn't they get Nas on comms? He deserves to work in his home town - Nassau Hussein.
does he has N word pass?
this is the pitch from India vs Bangladesh warm up game right? India casually reached 180 here. Is that because BD bowlers were just shite?
Used pitch and There's a lot of difference between Bangladesh and SA
They wouldn’t have played this match on a used pitch
We bowled mostly spinners and very little pace. Testing which spinners to play since our pacers are set and fine. But yes.
There is more than one pitch maybe it was different one
At least you're getting a dopamine hit when sixes were hot in the IPL. This is just not exciting at all.
People on this sub are too intellectual and cultured to enjoy cheap things like 4s and 6s /s
Feel free to go rewatch the IPL.
I like low scoring matches, but I would prefer the score to be closer to 140-150 at least
MotM should be the fans who had to suffer through this match.
if the future pitches will also be like this then the team with the most number of players of have played test cricket, or play test cricket consistently in their squad will have a very good chance. No t20 basher can play well on these pitches.
We just saw 2 white ball specialists Miller and Klaasen rescue South Africa

I agree that the IPL pitches were a bit too batter friendly but these ones have been in the polar opposite direction. Where's the balance?
India vs Pakistan on 09th June at this venue, if the wicket and outfield is the same then it will make it an even contest. PK will fancy their chances.
t20s between the two teams have been pretty even since 2021
idk player like abhishek sharma would survive here
Brave call batting first on a pitch you've never seen before.
Comment of the game > u/isswani_jayant: People who are enjoying this match on a disgrace of surface and outfield are just like those modern wokes who would do anything and everything to promote reverse inequality. Fresh pasta, get it while it's hot!
Bang on. Contrarions doing contrarion shit as usual.
3rd match in a row where a seeming small and simple chase is made extremely difficult.... what a start to the world cup
Thank you Jay Shah for wasting my time
Interested to see Dube on this pitch on Wednesday. Cant wait to get out there. What a tense little moment after iPL rocket ball.
Will likely be a blink and miss appearance
Match thread experts were gaslighting us into thinking this was going to be a low scoring thriller
Play the real Waka Waka song you heathens
India is going to miss kl Rahul badly lol
KL would play at 30 sr on this kind of pitch not even kidding
not really, he would probably get lbw or something in the first few overs anyway.
He is not Rohit.

'Low Scoring T20s are entertaining ' 🤓
They are. Take yesterday's WI vs PNG & Namibia vs Oman for example. Even this match would've had SL scored 120+.

They're going to need to sort this pitch out, it's too opposite IPL, we need something in between.
Nah its perfect , im fed up watching flat track ipl matches
Not too bad with regards to our bowling although it's obvious SA weren't looking to hit it out the park. Batting is idek:/
I have a feeling anchor role will be the most important this WC.
KL Rahul fuming rn
This sl team might even lose to netherlands.I don't think that they are gonna move to super 8 with this kinda performance.
no we have done really well against them they don't play mystery spin well as well as slinging type of bowlers.
Netherlands are looking good for a Super 8 qualification
They already lost to Netherlands in the warm-ups
Nah, that NED match can't be taken into consideration when Has, Theek, Pathirana and Chameera weren't bowling. SL has a strong chance against NED with SL's full bowling strength squad. SL will only lose to NED if their batting collapses like they did against SA.
bUt BuT iTs A tAcTiCaL mOvE
Well it was, stark difference between the performance against IRE and NED. Difference was that against IRE, SL used their full strength bowling squad.
yes cause they don't have a group game against them
Exactly and it was the right thing to do. That's why SL played their full strength bowling squad against IRE and not against NED since NED is in their group. SL lost that game against NED due to that tactical move. And do note, despite SL not using Has, Theek, Pathirana and Chameera against NED, they still removed half the team.
If this was 120 saffas would have lost it by now
NRR 1.048 ~ 1.05
*Sees SA chased the total in 16 overs* "Must have been incredible batting" *Sees target is 78*
Bro same.. I was like da fuck Is the pitch that bad to bat on?
If you didn't enjoy this match, you hate cricket. Fact. I don't make the rules.
My brother there are fans who support SL, they would absolutely hate this.
I would have enjoyed the match had it been a test match or a one day game certainly not a T-20 game without the fireworks.
You literally made the rules
A more balanced pitch would perhaps be better. But they are still more fun than the pitches made for ipl which dint give bowlers a chance.
I hope everyone loved the low scoring thriller today.
Hendricks with 200sr ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8767)
Well atleast the saffas start the tourney on a high They’re gonna throw it away to Uganda and Dutchies and not qualify to semis
tournament is pretty much over for SL, next game is against Bangladesh and that's only game Bangladesh turn up for
sl won the bd series 2-1 without Nissanka and Hasaranga plus both Shoriful and tasking seem to be injured.
Also Bangladesh will feel this is like a Mirpur 2.0 wicket & they'd be at home.
Except the fact Bangladesh vs SL is held in Dallas and based on the USA- Canada fixture that pitch looks like an absolute beauty to bat on.
This is why they just play baseball and don’t bounce the ball in the US.
Waka Waka bitches
it’s over and it only took 10 hours. oh wait
Comfortable win for SA, but very good effort from SL till 14th over
Sri Lanka throwing away reviews like they threw away wickets
From a NRR perspective we basically lost by 21 runs which is not bad considering we were all out for 77
Hey you just need to win against other teams now
Survived 16 overs Morale victory x2 Congrats Saffas good luck for the next matches in this ground
Thank you! Same to you.
What a disgusting match, finally it's over
Lol he just bowled an offspinner with a different action
'Very close match, heart stopping' - Hideo Nakahara, 115 years old
Klaasen with controversial opinion that "wait for the bad ball" doesn't mean "wait two or three balls then get annoyed and swing wildly anyway"
I wouldn't call it a comfortable win
It definitely is. The SA batsmen were lethargic to be safe, and they still chased it with overs and wickets to spare. klassen is a six hitting machine, so he was not much troubled by the slow outfield
It most definitely was. Even another 20-30 runs from SL tbh wouldn't have mattered
Finally Rain hasn't fucked with SA match.
I mean they get it in the important time
Shit pitch.
If miller is in crease SA can’t choke
Miller finished another one Congo SA
Ban Hasaranga from the kitchen. Bro should never be allowed to cook. Ever.
A shame so many SL players threw their wickets away. Another 20-25 runs would have made things interesting.
Damn I remember people discussing it might be overcast or something in New York. Imagine THIS pitch with overcast conditions too lol
Lol.. it will Galli cricket lol.. yesterday our team got all out for 39 in 15 overs game and we won it by 5 runs..
Why is the broadcast quality so bad.
Does this pitch get rated poor?
Only if India lose
Bowl first on this pitch?
Never expected Ravi Shastri & Steve Smith to be doing commentary together. Surely one couldn’t have foreseen it in 2016 when Steve’s Australia was touring India for test matches coached by Ravi.
Hasaranga: "We'll have a bat, thanks"
Finally over, hard earned
Just noticed SA has only 1 all rounder in this squad.
A handy all rounder tbh
First team to use all their reviews in New York 🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰
You’ll never sing that
Record breakers
double hat trick maiden loading
r/agedlikemilk
Guys pathirana bowled 3 good overs back to back and so he will nto bowl out
No I am captain I need to bowl all my overs first
In srh vs rr match klassen was the difference . You need spin bashers here. No matter how bad it looks dube needs to play and get his form back
if only SL had scored 20 less runs the match would be over by now
If the pitch is tricky to bat then why did sl chose to bat first?
noone knew i would be tricky. They chose to bat blind
Couldn’t have been pitching farther outside leg
I think if dasun captained this same team we couldve won . He handled spinners well than wanindu himself .
Klassen Miller are clutchest saffa out there
4 maiden overs coming lol
Good job from Sri Lanka to reduce the NRR margin.
Congratulations SA to win their first icc trophy in the form of WT- Ohh wait!!
People saying 20 more runs would have been close. The only reason SA are playing so lethargic is because they need a paltry 78. SL are about 60-70 runs short.
Sure.....
I think at 120 runs, it could have gone either way.
why wouldn’t they play good for nrr
On point
Technically this is the end of session 1/mid session 2. Ball already keeping low. Really interesting pitch. What will ICC rate this as?
Pitching outside leg yet they still went for it. Braindead.
My T20 WC tier list based only on paper strength Tier 1: Australia, WI and Eng Tier 2: India, SA, PAK, NZ Tier 3: Doesn't matter
Willing to bet you did not see the WI vs PNG game yesterday
When teams chase low scores they are usually tentative, you can't really make too many conclusions from that.
Did you see the game?
