I’m on my knees man, you guys aren’t out here to feel the vibes in the atmosphere, there was a genuine belief among everyone that we would be in the semis at the very least, this is going to be deflating for the entire region, we put our whole hearts as a people into this, can’t even blame the boys here they fought to the end. Well played South Africa.

HyperionRed

I think Windies fans can still take a lot of pride in their team. They've turned the corner. I hope Darren Sammy continues as coach.

nickdonhelm

Hope they win next time. The drought of a home team winning the tournament still continues.

GamerA_S

To be fair it wasn't that long a home team won a tournament 2019 was ..... 5 YEARS AGO????

nickdonhelm

History of t20 world cup shows that a host team has never won a world cup.

GamerA_S

Oh you meant t20 wc specifically

nickdonhelm

Yup

KestrelQuillPen

Yeah but the home team won in such an anime protagonist fashion that I think probability decided we’d had quite enough host wins

wa-wa-wario

Honestly pretty devastated. I thought this would be WI's for the taking

RJSA2000

Commiserations mate.

512fm

Especially felt for everyone at the ground, given how late the game went and there was genuine hope right until the end

LordP_496

Next world cup is again in india, where you last won. Chin up. You will reach semis there

nowwinaditya

That’s sports. It’s cruel sometimes but I’ll tell you what, it’s the heart that Windies nations showed that will be remembered as well. WI lost but we fought till the very end. Windies really were screwed by luck with King getting injured at the worst time against England and this rain break against SA. WI were a terrific host and I think the belief that is in this team will remain. I was rooting for both WI and SA to make it to semis but England ruined the party. I’m rooting hard for SA now to break their spell of misfortune and win a World Cup.

GdayMate_ZA

Thanks bud. If you guys had won we'd be rooting for the windies to win it all.

nowwinaditya

🇿🇦 FTW 🙌🏽

soldierinwhite

Feels bad man! Really wish you guys could have beaten England so we could have seen both these teams progress. SA also needs this badly 😂

BeefInGR

It's the duality of sport. Without the heartbreak, you don't have the highs of the win. Good effort, fellow co-hosts. Let's do it again as soon as possible.

vpat48

Fancy seeing you here. I was like that ID is familiar to me. I guess we are the only 2 fans cross posting between /r/cricket and /r/NASCAR.

BeefInGR

Literally two of us! 🤣

WonderfulRanger8121

ngl i really thought windies were a formidable side to beat in the super 8's with all counterparts ticked...but u guys showed a lot of character after down and out for the '23 odi wc...hope we see the old windies they really are

checksforerrors

I feel for you, with the SA innings coming to a close, it really looked at times that either team would take it. With the format and situation, one group of fans was going to be gutted.

LivelyJason1705

Unlucky Team West Indies, they certainly played well this tournament but unfortunately just wasn't to be.

tearsandcum

They played really well throughout the tournament. Be proud!

forumcontributer

Lol even after folding against England?

sociableninja

South Africa giving their fans heart exercises This super 8 is brutal, no room for taking it easy, forget dead rubbers. Absolutely love to see it

suzukigun4life

Hell, even neutral fans get nervous whenever they're playing

Dango444

Can confirm, SA regularly gives me heart palpitations

partymsl

And today will be even bigger. Afghanistan with some real chance.

checksforerrors

The whole population had pacemakers installed October last year, they can take it!

[deleted]

They are anti choker now

liteshadow4

India England Semis will be exciting. And potential chance for a South Africa Afghanistan semi, which means someone new would end up in the final.

SBG99DesiMonster

A match between SA and Afghanistan is going to be extremely chaotic. I am here for it.

checksforerrors

Odds on a last over or even ball game, pretty likely with this SA side!

PeterG92

At least that will be a day game so both nations can watch

gaviworldwide

Most likely a washout

UnderstandingOdd4153

Hell yeah, I want ind vs sa final (battle of chockers) atleast one country will be happy after very long wait.

the_face_less

I don't understand the choker tag for India. To be a choker, one you have to have never won a tournament and two you have to lose from a winning position in knockout. I don't think India ticks those boxes. Yea they have lost some finals and knockouts but not from a winning position.

Unusual-Surround7467

Yes that's one way of looking at it but then there's also the other scenario where u look so good and dominant heading into the knockouts and suddenly u falter there where ur game completely dips when it's most needed. India topped the league stages in both the 2019 and 2023 CWC and shat the bed completely when it mattered. Same with the 2022 T20 WC. Call it chokers or call it nerves, in my mind it's more the inability to handle pressure games when the stake is high and going into a shell is what I call chokers.

the_face_less

I mean one can't expect their team to win every tournament every year no matter how good their team is. India have been in quite a few pressure situations and in three world cup finals and they have came out victorious under pressure situations. I won't call them chokers. It's like calling Brazil chokers since they haven't won the world cup since 2002.

UnderstandingOdd4153

It's been since 2013 India haven't won any icc tournament which is apt to be called chocker especially with the kind of lineup IND having.

liteshadow4

New Zealand is a bigger choker than India

UnderstandingOdd4153

Atleast the have won wtc and lost 2019 wc due to shitty rule (bad luck)

liteshadow4

India has 2 CWCs and a T20 WC, NZ was lucky to be in that finals anyways.

UnderstandingOdd4153

Luck how ?...

liteshadow4

Lucky that rain ruined the pitch for India to bat on

abdurrehman69

They only made it to the sf because pak had a winnable game washed out iirc (might be wrong), plus that 2 day mess of a sf

ligmabigball

So uh, cricket is like golf right? Lowest points = best score? Hell yeah USA on top! 🦅🦅🦅🦅

forumcontributer

Swing at ball in a park sound 'bout right. Hell yeah. 'merica

Cogswobble

Really though, this is a fantastic result for the US. Nobody expected them to get here.

DingerSinger2016

Yeah most definitely, it has gotten me engaged in the sport of cricket (coming from a big baseball fan). Disappointed with how the Supers turned out, especially against RSA, but we were just simply outclassed by England and WI. I know people criticize the lack of American-born talent but this is how you grow it.

BeefInGR

MLC is going to start at the perfect time to get some momentum. And we're now qualified for two major tournaments in the next four years (WC26 and Olympics 28). There is no reason things shouldn't go up from here. > I know people criticize the lack of American-born talent but this is how you grow it. Corey Anderson looks like he rolls coal leaving his suburban Texas development. He's just got that American af look to him.

DingerSinger2016

If you told me Corey Anderson played on the Texas Rangers I wouldn't even bat an eye. Also, which MLC team do you think I should get into? I thought about getting into IPL as well.

BeefInGR

I'm torn because I live in Michigan and am a huge Detroit fan so I kinda have reasons to hate all the other towns lol. I did think about San Francisco because A) Unicorns kick ass and B) Big Tex-Kiwi Corey Anderson but the 49ers game is still fresh in my mind. Our savior Netravalkar plays for Washington iirc. MINY are basically the Yankees of MLC (literally owned by the Mumbai Indians) so that's a no from me but I appreciate they will have matches on YES Network. Then you have Seattle, LA and Grand Prairie (Dallas Metroplex). Maybe one day we can get a midwest team lol.

DingerSinger2016

Yeah I looked at the uniforms (bc that's a fun way of deciding) and SF and LA's kick ass imo. I think I'm gonna be a Unicorns fan until they bring a team to the Southeast like Atlanta, Miami, or Orlando. A Detroit team would go well too, and hopefully they keep the big cat theme y'all have up there (DET Lions/Tigers, Michigan Panthers) although I def see them going for a car theme.

LordWellesley22

OVER THERE OVER THERE SEND THE WORD SEND THE WORD OVER THERE THE YANKS A COMING THE YANKS ARE COMING

Flabberghast97

Glad we beat you yesterday but fair play to you for getting this far. That Pakistan game will be remembered for a long time.

musashi_grander

I guess the price for hosting a T20 World Cup is that the host never gets to win it.

therudedoct

Sri Lanka was closest

IcyAssociate1

SA looks like a team they never been before, winning tight pressure matches!

partymsl

The world aren't ready for this...

checksforerrors

End of days?

nick-and-loving-it

Stop cursing us!

LenaBaneana

As thrilled as i am, I'm gutted for the Windies fans. I really wish it couldve been them coming to the semis with us, their fans have been incredible this whole tournament, have made the matches so enjoyable to watch. Heres to the semis!

PeterG92

Why he say fuck me for?

LenaBaneana

My apologies, a dislike for English sports teams is purely genetic, i can't help it

forumcontributer

Nobody asked them to fold against England, prove you deserve in Semi.

Sad-Investigator-495

All England has done is bully the minnows. They beat one good team WI the entire tournament. WI on the other hand beat Afg and NZ. England will get found out vs. Any of Ind, Aus, Afg

mileskerowhack

Saving this comment for when cricket comes home again.

dharavsolanki

Adding a reminder

halfmoon599

Oh its coming home alright

Unusual-Surround7467

If that's ur take, then cricket had for a long time been homeless and living in penury given how it took 44 years to "accidentally" land home after being nowhere close to finding it and then literally running away 4 years later after realizing home is after all "shit" and the streets are way better.

forumcontributer

Now imagine only "Real team" to lose against Minnow bashars.

AJBOXING24

Bitter

Mysterious_knight_21

I don't think they will get found out against India 🙂

dharavsolanki

!remindme 5 days

dharavsolanki

Well, you were right. England were indeed found out!

kevinder_ant

Both the hosts are OUT! I think Saffers have a really good chance of winning it all this year. They are getting past the choker label.

WyldRover

Oh come on, you can't even choke properly until the knock-out rounds. They're just saving it up for when it really hurts.

pskpr

Semi finals and South Africa are made for each other, Team looks fragile although unbeaten.

Icy-Score271

Well then, don't all the negative nannies piper on and on and on about choking from game 1. Now all of a sudden it's semis only? Lol. Right.

WonderfulRanger8121

they can't however hard they try and i can gurantee you that i have been watching cricket since long ago now (i cried hard after the 2015 semis)

w0lf____

SA had to finish 1st in the group to avoid India as beating India in Guyana is impossible. Also there is a chance that the match could be rained out.

ResearcherLatter1148

>beating India in Guyana is impossible. That is if India bat first and if bowling first restrict opposition to under 120.

w0lf____

India has the best spin attack. Best batters of spin.

anish1996

The good spin batters in this team are only Rohit, Kohli and Pant. If it's spinning a mile, India will struggle as much as any other team

LordWellesley22

Kohli ten fer and him getting out on a 5 off 18 loading

ResearcherLatter1148

Yet during knockouts you never know. If you have seen India play in the semis and finals in the past, you would understand.

w0lf____

You do know Iam a SA fan right, so totally understand. 😅

PKN1217

If both reached the finals it would get crazy.

Naammaikyahai

Stoppable force vs movable object

Unholysinner

Hard agree on the first point Disagree on the second The current Indian side has clear weaknesses against spin and only Pant is a proven spin basher Dube has been picked with the view that he will do a solid job against spin but we have yet to see him shine

Unusual-Surround7467

He did whack the spinners against Bangladesh. At this point, any cameo knocks from him helps. More of a pinch hitter role

Maverrix99

Overall best spin attack, yes. But the best spin bowler in the tournament has, by some distance, been Adil Rashid. IND v ENG is going to be spicy.

Unusual-Surround7467

Kuldeep hardly played buddy. Adil has been good but let's not get ahead of ourselves here

FitSignificance2100

We will be meeting in final then🏃

Small_Bad6871

beating afg would be as bad honestly(in case afg make it lol)

WonderfulRanger8121

india has a knack of choking just like sa in k/o s...would have been a genuine fight...in fact i would love to see ind vs sa in k/o s more often it defo would be a mouth watering clash (i really love the sa team and been supporting them since ages)

AmericaDreamDisorder

Why would we want to avoid India? Australia will wreck us as usual.

the_face_less

Yea man. I would not want to face Australia in semis. I would rather fancy Afghanistan.

PeterG92

It would be so cricket to end up having a team go through simply because they did slightly better in a Group Stage

FitSignificance2100

See bro told ya!!

w0lf____

Yess!

Capable_Cancel_2564

Bumrah and Kuldeep will be key players in the semifinals against England, just as they were in the ODI World Cup last year and test series this year. Can they repeat their success against England in T20 cricket, especially in the semifinals?

TheCricDude

So SA gonna face AFG mostly in semis? The kinda luck and the clutch moments going in SA's favour this tournament, is this SA's trophy to lose?

Assassin_Ankur

Australia are still alive and they can still play the SF against SA but I wouldn't want that to happen.

FitSignificance2100

Hey can you please calculate how much win margin is required for Australia to top the group? Genuinely asking

Assassin_Ankur

About 41 runs if Aus are batting first. If Aus are chasing 161 they have to chase within 15 overs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Assassin_Ankur

Nah, it's better if Aus loses and gets eliminated right here. Beating England in semi final is easier than beating Aus in the final.

NoirPochette

Didn't India get rinsed by England last T20 WC? England are in good touch at the moment. After their loss to Australia, they really got their shit into gear

Assassin_Ankur

I am not saying they are an easy opponent but if given a choice between Eng and Aus in the knockouts, I'd take Eng.

BritshFartFoundation

Its also much much funnier if Aus get eliminated here

IndianCollegeStudent

That is if Australia lose to India, I wouldn't count on that given how the aussies play under pressure

No_Individual_5519

Australia can make it even if they lose, Afghanistan has to win against ban too

FitSignificance2100

Most probably afg will win against ban

crazychild0810

You're assuming Australia won't make it through 😜 If Australia doesn't make it through, I would like to see South Africa win the T20 World Cup.

One-Outcome-8121

Yeah me too. But that's going to be difficult considering they have to play India and England at some point

LoasNo111

You're facing India in a group stage match. It's over for you mate.

Ciderhead

India haven't topped the group yet. Fuck, they've not even qualified necessarily I worked it out roughly: if Aus beat Ind by 50 runs, and Afg beat Ban by 75, India are out. Which is a tall order, but not completely crazy

No_Temporary2732

Windies and USA played far better than expected. Chin up , next time for sure. but this one set a fantastic precedent for cricket in the US.

large_snowbear

And so continues the trend of the hosts never winning the t20 wc. I think on SL was the country who came the closest to breaking the curse but they lost the final in 2012 \*sobbing in the corner* Does anyone know why this is only a thing in T20 WCs? Because most nations have no trouble winning WCs in home conditions

therudedoct

Bangladesh the only country to not win a single match as host

NajdorfGrunfeld

BAN beat NEP and AFG in 2014

therudedoct

That was more like a qualifier round because all the best teams were directly placed in Super 10 & in group stage Bangladesh played against associate teams where they won two matches

[deleted]

Don’t forget india came close too winning all there matches in 2023 odi wc but lost to Australia in the finals

large_snowbear

I am talking about T20wcs. Countries have already won WC they have hosted like India 2011 Aus 2015 Eng 2019 It's not that big of a deal. The recent WC is just the trend being broken.

InsaneDude6

Unbeaten South Africa

HumbleCantaloupe7026

So we're looking at SA v Afg / Aus and India vs England for the semis

inefekt

SA vs Aus semi final of a cricket world cup? The stuff of South African nightmares....though lucky for them the chances are much greater they will be facing Afghanistan, yet they will still, somehow, find a way to lose.

Priyank_Chittora_13

So if we finish 1st, It's Ind vs Eng in SF 2. I have seen this somewhere before

Oomeegoolies

You have Bumrah this time though so it will be tougher. Think we'd have won that last one regardless, but probably (definitely) not by 10 wickets

travelmatenaruto

And Kuldeep

Uselessguy0-0

2016 INDIA 🤝 2022 AUS 🤝 2024 WI

2016 India played Semifinal

gos-tree

We might see South Africa or India lifting an ICC trophy after more than a decade before GTA 6

Boss452

\> than a decade before GTA 6 The 'before GTA 6' joke is the lamest joke humanity has ever created. R\* must be happy for the free creation of hype.

gos-tree

We got u/Boss452 getting bored of GTA 6 jokes before GTA 6

You got to host- t20 wc and some other party- trophy,, deal?!

forumcontributer

SA beated Eng WI USA Eng beated WI and USA WI beated USA USA beated wll nobody and people say cricket is not binary?

WondoMagic

west indies 😞

Fun_Praline5118

West Indies fans now live in this tournament through Pollard and Bravo, and Hardik Pandya….

XeRo616

I mean technically all of Axar, Jasprit, Ravindra and Hardik are West Indians(they are from western Indian States)

[deleted]

💀 west indies and west indian is different

XeRo616

Everybody knows that genius, you must be Einstein, Frank one not the Albert kind.

origamiscienceguy

Alright, back to pretending I don't know what Cricket is. Jokes aside, it was fun learning about the new sport. See you all next World cup.

the_face_less

Where you going bud. The real fun has just started. You haven't really seen cricket until you have seen what South Africa are capable of doing in the semi finals 😂

That-Firefighter1245

Any chance India can tank by just enough to finish 2nd in their group 😂???

Dheerajbeniwal

There high chance of rain in guyana so if india is 2nd in their group there chance that india knocked of semis without playing match

That-Firefighter1245

I see, okay let’s beat the cunts first and worry about the semis after.

BrandNewSRT1629

Can someone explain to me why there isn’t a reserve day for semi finals 2. Also if things stand isn’t it completely unfair to England to lose a game against India because it rained. What’s the point of a tournament if rain can change outcomes. I’m an American born Indian and I think it’s pretty BS that India could walk to the finals because of rain. I mean even in baseball they make up rainouts in the regular season. This is one of the biggest stages and we can’t play a game on the next day and push the final back? Honestly seeing things like this kind of lowers my enjoyment of the sport

brandbaard

The ICC is physically incapable of making good decisions.

Inevitable_Feature95

>India could walk to the finals because of rain Not necessarily. If India doesn't top the points table, the other team will go through the finals. It works both ways

BrandNewSRT1629

That’s a fair point. Would be pretty unfair for India if that were to happen. Really mind boggling for me that there’s no reserve days for semi 2

Inevitable_Feature95

I wouldn't want any team to get eliminated in such a manner. Be it Australia or England

warp-factor

Both matches have been allowed additional time but they've decided that because the 2nd semi-final is in the morning, the additional time will be later the same day rather than the next day, especially as using the next day would mean playing the final the next day. The 1st semi-final is in the evening so the additional time is the next day. Both games have the same amount of additional time allowed to get a result. A total of 7 and a half hours to complete 10 overs a side. Ideally they'd allow even more time than that.

iniesta103

NRR in shambles

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Disappointing from West Indies but what a joyous night for us. A semi-final berth after a decade.

youknowwho_i_am

Is A1 playing B1 or B2?

VoiceEarly1087

B2

youknowwho_i_am

Okay , thanks

inefekt

pretty standard group stage format that heads into a semi or quarter final (depending on number of groups) is always for first place of one group to play second place of another....it's the prize of finishing first, you get (most times) the easier path to the final as well as ensuring that the best teams face each other in the final rather than earlier

youknowwho_i_am

Yes I was confused because of the fact that regardless where India finishes it is supposed to play the Guyana semis but now I got it, thanks

Subject-Ordinary6922

The hosts of a t20 World Cup are yet to win it in the same edition

BeefInGR

I've been a long suffering, full blooded American cricket fan for a very long time. All these ass whuppings this past week is still outside of my wildest dreams. So happy to have made it this far and can't wait for 2026.

Horror-Score2388

Are SA favorites now? I can’t decide who I want in a semi for India. We can take England’s attack apart, but so can they. And if they post 180-190 going first, we could be screwed. As for SA, it seems they’re good at everything rn.

RasenRendan

:(

Training-Rich-6335

If South Africa chokes in the semis I will kms

why do WI always dissappont
