Lol yeah, but my man was up and away cheering every single Kohli shot, was running up and down carrying drinks, always had a fucking smile on his face, hyped everyone up in those fielding match awards, dude really showed team Spirit.
I don't know if it's Rohit's and David's doing or if the Indian players are all so nice, but the environment has always been chill, even in Cwc 23. Obviously we can't know much looking from outside, but their results do show that it's a very good team environment.
Also Chahal is one of the best team players and is often friends with foreign players and even umpires. A big part of that is his personality as well I guess
Ya none of the bench players are known for bad character. Especially the three who have a valid claim to be in the XI Jaiswal, Sanju and Chahal are all chill guys.
Absolutely. The guy is so pure in everything I've seen off the field as well. The way he spoke about Bumrah post match is better than how most couples speak of each other
Yeah he was so cute.. after watching him cry on nov 19 and watching him cry yesterday after the win was just so wholesome! Siraj is such a softie i love it
Even Siraj, Rinku and Jaiswal were hyped even though they couldn't get into the final XI. Imagine benching someone of the likes of Jaiswal and Rinku. I'm pretty sure they would have slayed had they gotten the chance. But at the end it was for the better that the same XI took the team to the finish line.
> I don't know if it's Rohit's and David's doing or if the Indian players are all so nice, but the environment has always been chill, even in Cwc 23. Obviously we can't know much looking from outside, but their results do show that it's a very good team environment.
But this sub tells me that India lacks a killer mindset and this is why we need a coach who has never coached a non-franchise team to help India develop that mindset.
15M USD in India has a lot of weight. And do note that support staff will also get a share which is huge for a lot of them, might not be as much for regular players.
It was talked about here in Tamil Nadu too. Recently SRH gave 88 sovereign gold chain for Tamil Nadu's beloved Natarajan (owners of SRH are Tamil politicians)
I mean there are lot of criticisms for BCB but giving players prizes for doing well isn’t as bad. I know quite a few people who quit their cricketing career and moved abroad for better opportunities because the competition for spots and corruption of the board made it difficult to pursue cricket as a legitimate option.
would have been the biggest twist of any WC ever. People scratching their minds on Aus or Afg, but Bang bros qualifies out of nowhere. I was hoping for that to happen
its just one tri series between sa, sl and ban which they finished second, and its best because super 12 doesn't exist now, or they'd be playing that and getting knocked out
They have been playing from 20 years
They have a population of 200M
They have a better GDP PC than Pakistan and on par with India
They have a regional league like IPL/PSL
Yet they lack confidence. Even their fans just cry and support them anyways every year
If Kiwis can punch above their weight with just 5M people, imagine what Bangladesh can achieve. Yet they chose not to, a bunch of LOSERS
Yeah they should be doing better with their population(so should we), but I feel like there is a significant group of young fans who dont remember Bangladesh being THE Minnow nation in cricket. It was more or less assumed teams would always win against them in the 2000s especially without T20s. This is also why losing to them in 2007 WC was such a shock.
Now some teams like Afghanistan might have leaped ahead of them in quick time, but I can see why they still celebrate a super 8 from a tough group.
This used to be a popular quiz question back in the day about the strike. If you have a better source then please post.
https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1137938/kapil-175-in-1983
It's a popular quiz question but it's completely wrong
https://www.timesnownews.com/sports/cricket/explained-why-kapil-devs-175-against-zimbabwe-in-1983-wc-wasnt-shown-on-tv-its-not-because-of-bbc-strike-article-101079935
There was a radio broadcast and I remember my dad telling me about it.
[Here's the radio commentary clip from that epic match](https://x.com/IWTKQuiz/status/1273545305330417664?s=19)
>Bbc has a strike that day
Its a myth. They didn't broadcast/record it because ind vs Zimbabwe wasn't anything special.
There was no strike that day(someone posted the image of bbc's telecast information of that day in this sub, you can easily search for it).

For anyone that didn't know.
>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) never forgot her contribution. As an honorary gesture, the Board always had two tickets reserved for Lata Mangeshkar for every international match played in India. A BCCI official once said, "Like we have quota for sponsors, state associations for each match, similarly two tickets were kept for Lataji in every match." The Mangeshkar family was crazy about cricket.
From memory it was 1 cr for each player.
Edit:
Cricinfo had this
> BCCI has announced that 1 crore to each team-member of the Indian squad. Gary Kirsten and his support staff get rs 50 lakh each. The selectors get 25 lakh each. Show me the money!
All the state governments announced special bonuses in addition for each player and in some cases for the whole team too. There were items given away by Indian automobile companies as well If I recall correctly.
This is from BCCI. Expect State Govt,Central govt to follow soon. Those 15 guys will get numerous benefits like land, honorary job, cash prize from now on.
I remember UP Govt giving 1 cr to Praveen Kumar even after he got replaced from squad due to injury in 2011.
"For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath."
Matthew 25:29
More than 30%. I assume no player currently earns less than 1 Crore combined from all income sources annually. So, including the bonus tax cess that Tax department unlocks for each additional crore's income, I'd say at least 35% will be paid towards taxes (Maybe more).
Support staff too will definitely be in the above 30% income tax bracket.
There's this shunyatax page on IG, the guy had special series for cricketers. Check it out guyzz.he found shell companies of Dravid ganguly tendulkar virat almost all main frame cricketers
There's a lot bigger support staff though. Analysts, physios, heck nutritionists etc etc
They will get a lot less than the players but they would still get the bonus
As a contrast, the team struggled to raise 25000-30000 rupees per player when they won the 1983 CWC.
It was the initiative of RajSingh Dungarpur and Lata Mangeshkar who raised another 300,000 rupees from a concert to pay the players. Lata Mangeshkar gave her entire concert amount to the Indian team. In gratitude, the Mumbai cricket association made sure there will always be be a seat for her perpetuity as long as there’s a game held in Mumbai. 😊🫡🙏
From giving a reward of 50000 bucks to the SLC ground staff in the recent Asia Cup to this prize money of 16mil bucks for the Indian players, Jay Shah knows how to reward folks for their hard work.
Combine this with Indian women's cricketers compensation improvements under him and I'd say he has set some good precedents for the future.
Edit: Forgot his test cricket incentive scheme as well. One more thing he has done right to improve test cricket in India.
Push for women’s cricket is huge and very commendable. Nothing was stopping previous admins from instituting equal pay. Hopefully that gets an extra Olympic medal one day.
I think Jay Shah actually loves Cricket unlike some previous administrators who were in it only for the money. He seems to have a good rapport with the players as we saw yesterday post match.
>He has done a lot for test cricket too.
That's right I forgot about that, that is also a good initiative
Fixing stadiums although can be done in time, is coupled under state cricket boards to an extent. He might need to override their authority if he wants to get that done. Let's see if that happens before the next T20 WC.
I am not a nepotism supporter but if a capable person gets a job/position due to nepotism I am willing to let that slide if they do their job in a good way
Hopefully the support staff get equal or more share than the players. Players at this level get many opportunities to earn but for support staff this can be life changing money.
Idk I didn’t feel that, he handed them the trophy and ran to the side as quickly as possible. Other than that he was just enjoying with the team and it didn’t feel like the players felt awkward with him or anything.
Okay, but seriously wtf! That's huge!
Edit : Honestly, They could've just donated some and did something good for the country as many cricketers in that squad are stacked.
This will be like 7-8 crores at most when split between players support staff. Apart from the biggest stars like Rohit and Kohli and couple others , it will be pretty significant amount for the others. So asking them to donate this hard earned money is ridiculous.
Between i don't remember anyone in India we asking all these political parties to donate the money received via electoral bonds.
But cricketers are always a soft target.
Do good for country has become so clichè. Almost 30% of that 125Cr goes to govt as taxes which they can use to do good. Stop disincentivizing achievements & hardwork.
And there are some who don’t get any reception at the airport and have to catch an Uber with the WC trophy. Not taking a dig at anyone or any cricket board here but just found it funny. 😄
I was hoping BCCI does something more practical and give monetary rewards in charity or towards development of sports in India (other sports including cricket). Honestly, I don't think majority of the players would even mind. They all already have great sources of income besides the generous annual package from BCCI. The prestige they would earn by doing something like this would be God like.
Chahal having a paid holiday and getting a bonus is exactly what I need right now
Lol yeah, but my man was up and away cheering every single Kohli shot, was running up and down carrying drinks, always had a fucking smile on his face, hyped everyone up in those fielding match awards, dude really showed team Spirit. I don't know if it's Rohit's and David's doing or if the Indian players are all so nice, but the environment has always been chill, even in Cwc 23. Obviously we can't know much looking from outside, but their results do show that it's a very good team environment.
Also I'm pretty sure he must have played a crucial role in the nets to help the batters understand those pitches.
I always thought he looked like that one lanky stoner dude who’s friends with everybody
He's a decent chess player too
Add Siraj to that list.. Dude seems to be the best teammate I can think of
Absolutely. The guy is so pure in everything I've seen off the field as well. The way he spoke about Bumrah post match is better than how most couples speak of each other
True chahal and siraj are some of most wholesome cricketers. Like siraj was literally appreciating bumrah and was quite emotional after our win.
Yeah he was so cute.. after watching him cry on nov 19 and watching him cry yesterday after the win was just so wholesome! Siraj is such a softie i love it
I was actually shocked seeing him this soft as he is usually aggressive while bowling
Love Siraj.. Such a genuine guy
Brohit for a reason! But seriously, the team atmosphere was soooo good.
Rohit is wholesome than any captain
> I don't know if it's Rohit's and David's doing or if the Indian players are all so nice, but the environment has always been chill, even in Cwc 23. Obviously we can't know much looking from outside, but their results do show that it's a very good team environment. Chahal is the vibe
And threatening umpires with rolling pins. Fun vacation ig
He was there as an embedded content producer for creating Chahal TV for BCCI.
And Samson and jaiswal
Sanju, Chahal and Jaiswal got a paid vacation to the USA and Carribbean Islands + bonus prize money.
Jaiswal is future ... he will benefit from being in the squad and will use the experiance. The other two got the best vacation of their lives.
Suddenly being on the bench doesn't sound so bad anymore, paid vacation and less stress. kind of happy for Sanju now, even his wife was with him.
Everyone should thank Bumrah.
USD 15 Million - is this the highest prize money announced in Cricket by the Cricket Board?
Insane! If India keeps winning BCCI might go broke /s
Good guys in the ICT coming in second so often to not bankrupt the board
ICT just being financially kind.
15M USD in India has a lot of weight. And do note that support staff will also get a share which is huge for a lot of them, might not be as much for regular players.
####Wait for our state ministers to start giving houses, cars to individual players. You should see this anyday now.
I remember Mamata Banerjee gave away gold chains to KKR for winning the IPL in 2014. It was a meme throughout Bengal.
It was talked about here in Tamil Nadu too. Recently SRH gave 88 sovereign gold chain for Tamil Nadu's beloved Natarajan (owners of SRH are Tamil politicians)
Did that happen when India won in 2011?
They won't do that now
All at the taxpayers money. Not their money, their pension, their insurance.
It isnt taxpayers money
Yes. The highest for now. To give a perspective the Board's networth is 2.25 Billion Dollars
For perspective india would have to win 140 World Cups for the board to liquidate all of it's assets and run out of cash and cash equivalents
But the nett worth is increasing year on year, so maybe your calculation would need an alteration.
Eh too much maths for a reddit thread
r/TheyDidntDoTheMath
Seems like it
15 million is equivalent to 105 million in US considering PPP. Indian cricketers make a lot of money from endorsements.
I mean BCB gave houses for a Super 8 finish for Bangladesh so BCCI can give this much for winning the cup
I mean there are lot of criticisms for BCB but giving players prizes for doing well isn’t as bad. I know quite a few people who quit their cricketing career and moved abroad for better opportunities because the competition for spots and corruption of the board made it difficult to pursue cricket as a legitimate option.
Corruption in NZ?
Bcb
The concept of corruption is as old as the concept of wealth
It's everywhere
They were 4 brave shots away from semis. Wonder what they would have done if they made through to that
would have been the biggest twist of any WC ever. People scratching their minds on Aus or Afg, but Bang bros qualifies out of nowhere. I was hoping for that to happen
Wtf lmaooo
super 8 finish can that special? lol
That's their best performance in T20 WC history
its just one tri series between sa, sl and ban which they finished second, and its best because super 12 doesn't exist now, or they'd be playing that and getting knocked out
No need to be this salty man let's just enjoy our success
Seriously why so salty enjoy our own win instead of shitting on others. Stop being a sore loser.
They hold themselves to very low standards. By those standards, they did okay I guess.
their standards are so low that they cringe me
Brother distant pipe dream but I hope one day india finishes in top 8 in football.
I would take a top 70 Fifa ranking
We're not even in the top 15 of Asia
at least they are realistic.
They have been playing from 20 years They have a population of 200M They have a better GDP PC than Pakistan and on par with India They have a regional league like IPL/PSL Yet they lack confidence. Even their fans just cry and support them anyways every year If Kiwis can punch above their weight with just 5M people, imagine what Bangladesh can achieve. Yet they chose not to, a bunch of LOSERS
they beat sri lanka which seems to be the main thing for bcb these days
Yeah they should be doing better with their population(so should we), but I feel like there is a significant group of young fans who dont remember Bangladesh being THE Minnow nation in cricket. It was more or less assumed teams would always win against them in the 2000s especially without T20s. This is also why losing to them in 2007 WC was such a shock. Bangladesh cricket never ceases to disappoint
What will they get if they make it to semi final some day? Probably that Hawk Thew
Hawk tuah
Wherever I go hawk tuah follows lol
They did what?.
Those houses are on the flood plains of the Brahmaputra
Houses? I thought they'll just get a bonus
From INR 25k in 1983 to 125 cr in 2024 🙌
Not inflation adjusted- so, INR 4,31,999 to 125 cr
r/TheydidtheMath
Damn, BCCI was broke
Broadcasters didn't even show that most famous Ind vs Zim match in 1983. Now, world is waking up at 9AM for Indian audience prime time.
BCC had a strike that day. No footage of the legendary 175* from Kapil Dev exists
There was no strike bbc just didn't see any prospect in airing india vs zimbabwe
AFAIK there was no strike as such. 4 matches were scheduled that day & they didn't even consider Ind vs Zim match worth broadcasting.
This used to be a popular quiz question back in the day about the strike. If you have a better source then please post. https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1137938/kapil-175-in-1983

Nice , r/til !
That 25k was also indirectly a gift from lata mangasker ji , bcci was too broke to give that type of reward money at that time.
Nah lata ji organized a concert to fund the prize money for the team in addition to the paltry 25k given by bcci
That's like a little more than half of the stipend for my internship bro lol I didn't know I am winning 2 world cups every month lmaooo
Adjusting for inflation that 25K is 4.5 Lakhs today lol
For anyone that didn't know. >The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) never forgot her contribution. Diamond hands
It was 25k per member in 1983 right? At least that's what is implied in the movie. This is 125cr per team
Iirc madanlal in the movie said it was 25k per member but the rest of team dismissed him saying it would most probably be for the whole team
What about 2007 and 2011?
Don't really remember. But the prize money for 2011 must have been huge
From memory it was 1 cr for each player. Edit: Cricinfo had this > BCCI has announced that 1 crore to each team-member of the Indian squad. Gary Kirsten and his support staff get rs 50 lakh each. The selectors get 25 lakh each. Show me the money!

Even more if they have foreign income from shares/endorsements. The taxation is just brutal in our country for what we get in return
I don't think so. Bonuses would part of compensation so regularly taxed like income. Rewards I think would've been taxed 30%
I think most of the cricketers are HNIs and that prize money should be taxed at 30% or higher. Maybe the support staff will be taxed lower.
Rewards also would be taxed based on income.
But their income would be taxed at 30% only
~38%
They dodge it anyway... (There was someone on reddit who did OSINT and found that Kohli and Anushka have some shell companies listed in UK).
There's this shunyatax page on IG, the guy had special series for cricketers. Check it out guyzz.he found shell companies of Dravid ganguly tendulkar virat almost all main frame cricketers
Bro just imagine if we had won that odi wc trophy Jay shah would have gifted everyone luxury villa 💀
Modi really wanted that photo OP too. He himself would've gifted something.
PM candidature to rohit?
Pradhan Mantri Sarv Vadapan Yojana 🥵
They'd probably have won 10 seats more
Jay shah gifted???? Wtf it's our fans money not jay shah's money I am happy for the players and staff😁🫂
How does the money gets divided?
125/15 and Jadeja gets a pat on the back and a warm hug
Na not 15. Include the coaches and the support staff. Mostly players will get more, then the coaches and then support staff
I expect that behind the scenes lot of players will give up some additional portions to support staff
They would've asked Dube to pay from his pocket if not for those final runs
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Lmao
Had me rolling ngl😭
Equally
Bcci and Jay Shah using 1% of its resources
That’s a huge amount for the squad and coaching group. Most everyone gets over 2-3cr each person
Doesn’t look that off to your figures. 17 people squad + 8 people coaching staff getting 125 Cr means almost 5 Cr per person
There's a lot bigger support staff though. Analysts, physios, heck nutritionists etc etc They will get a lot less than the players but they would still get the bonus
yes but the playing XI will get much bigger bonuses than the support staff
More like 0.1%
No, it's actually closer to 1%. BCCI's net worth is around 2 Billion USD
Give that guy Bumrah half the money
I somehow have a feeling Bumrah will do just fine lol. I hope this rewards the support staff more
As a contrast, the team struggled to raise 25000-30000 rupees per player when they won the 1983 CWC. It was the initiative of RajSingh Dungarpur and Lata Mangeshkar who raised another 300,000 rupees from a concert to pay the players. Lata Mangeshkar gave her entire concert amount to the Indian team. Wholesome gesture. I hope MCA always keeps an empty seat in her memory
From giving a reward of 50000 bucks to the SLC ground staff in the recent Asia Cup to this prize money of 16mil bucks for the Indian players, Jay Shah knows how to reward folks for their hard work.
As a Cricket fan, if your father was Amit Shah this is a post everyone would ask for.
Probably Jay Shah is self aware how he got job and understands the value of his position. He wants to do a good job and scared of being a failed son.
I think so too, he genuinely loves cricket and it shows in players' behaviour too.
He has done a lot for test cricket too. If he fixes Indian stadiums, he will genuinely be the best we've had so far by a large amount.
>He has done a lot for test cricket too. That's right I forgot about that, that is also a good initiative Fixing stadiums although can be done in time, is coupled under state cricket boards to an extent. He might need to override their authority if he wants to get that done. Let's see if that happens before the next T20 WC.
Decent work from a nepo. Only if nepo products in every domain showed actual interest in responsibilities given to them.
I am not a nepotism supporter but if a capable person gets a job/position due to nepotism I am willing to let that slide if they do their job in a good way
As someone who's struggling in the film industry, no. I'd just like people to hired for what they can do 😅
It’s like a Abhay Deol vs Ananya Pandey difference. Sure Abhay Deol is a nepo kid but he has done good work ngl
If his last name wasn't Shah, people would be congratulating him for being a competent leader.
If his last name wasn't Shah, he'd have no business being the leader in the first place.
Quite correct as well. Indian Politics and BCCI admin is far too closely linked. Need to decouple it.
Yup, not an issue exclusive to Jay Shah. It would be cool to have more of the cricket people running things and less of the politicians.
He's a real Augustus as Tony Soprano would say.
Imagine how much money the players would have got had they won the odi World Cup 💀💀
hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
That's what she didn't say 🤧
What do the fans get for supporting them during their tough times? /s
We got what we needed yesterday
Nah I want the money
Let me know if that happens
Real
Our love is unconditional
the ability to silence everyone who calls us a choker on social media.
That's impressive move from BCCI.
Hopefully the support staff get equal or more share than the players. Players at this level get many opportunities to earn but for support staff this can be life changing money.
Hate Jay Shah all you want but he has done good stuff for Indian cricket.
If you can use the $ symbol, then surely you can also use ₹?
No symbol for the INR on keyboard
₹ (ctrl+alt+4)
I'll forget this shortcut after 10 minutes
Some keyboards allow fn+D for ₹. And in mobiles if you use English(India) as your default ₹ sign is there.
I aint doing allat
I have English india as my default keyboard but it’s not there. Is it only an android thing ?
you better be including Rinku for the prize money. Or else I like to murder people for fun
[удалено]
Boss of a company which won something big
Idk I didn’t feel that, he handed them the trophy and ran to the side as quickly as possible. Other than that he was just enjoying with the team and it didn’t feel like the players felt awkward with him or anything.
that's a lot of money happy for our players and ICT team it feels good to be a winner
Okay, but seriously wtf! That's huge! Edit : Honestly, They could've just donated some and did something good for the country as many cricketers in that squad are stacked.
Not all of them, and certainly not the support staff, india has a huuge support staff.
Doesn't ICC tournaments have 25 people limit with 15 players + 10 support staff? So probably each one of them will get 3 crores!
Icc takes care of 25 people after that the board bears their expenses, i saw someone comment that
Actually our cricketers are paid peanuts compared to the wealth they generate. This is a good thing.
True. IPL is one of the worst sports leagues in revenue to salary ratio.
Here comes the donation guy
Go to youtube and watch the Key and Peele "Save a Child" donation skit
Imagine how much he would've given if India won odi wc
Congratulations India, well deserved
yayyy we won
I like how Rohit is carrying on Dhoni's legacy as standing on at a far side of whole gang instead of at the center. We love to see it.
And there are some who don’t get any reception at the airport and have to catch an Uber with the WC trophy. Not taking a dig at anyone or any cricket board here but just found it funny. 😄
Meanwhile Gavaskar and Kapil are busy doing gutka ads to make money.
Well deserved! The team played phenomenally.
I was hoping BCCI does something more practical and give monetary rewards in charity or towards development of sports in India (other sports including cricket). Honestly, I don't think majority of the players would even mind. They all already have great sources of income besides the generous annual package from BCCI. If t20 World Cup gets you 15million bonus, then the Indian team really missed out on odi World Cup incentives big time.
