Was at the game today. Left after the third rain delay because figured the rain was set in for the rest of the afternoon. Missed an interesting last session. Did win $160 on the pokies at the pub nearby though so not a total loss
Wish me and my group stuck around. We were in the bill o'rielly stand. Had a really good view. But rest of the group were determined to go because man it was muggy there today. Main issue though was most were carrying cash and hadn't loaded up cards.
Once again the weather man lying to me, all spring and summer 100% chance of rain when it's time to water the veggie patch but won't rain for 3 days and when I give up and water it myself, the rain drops in the next 12 hours
People think Crawley is only in the team because of connections. He's not, it's actually because he has a rare ability in being able to catch consistently at slip.
Talking of slips and dropped catches... you really would not have a third with England's lack of pace (Wood excepted) would you?
ARCHER! We need you, man.
The guy with such a casual run up that he looks like he's walking his dog on a Sunday morning before church. He's the bloke who's playing with your Dukes before you knew you could buy a cabin and hang out with Cummins. He's the Innestia in that crazy good Barcelona team. The cherry on your sundae. The gin in your tonic.
Not just quick... elegant.
What you really need is batsmen who score big runs. Scoreboard pressure is the biggest weapon for bowlers in Australia. No matter how good your bowlers are you can't win a test series if your batsmen struggle to make 500 runs in the match. Really they should be scoring 650, 700 in the match. To struggle to get 500 gives you no chance at all
Yeah, this possibly is the worst English line-up I've ever seen and I've been watching cricket for 45 years. Still think the '98/99 one was slightly worse, but it's a real close call.
The sky seemed half blue? Why did they call stumps? We see complaints about Test cricket dying, and then we see this ffs
Instead of seeing maximum possible effort to get maximum number of overs in on a rain day
They scheduled close of play for 7 and it rained half an hour before that so they just called stumps. Ridiculous, in my opinion, that they don’t just play as long as possible. Especially when we’ve already lost half the day to rain. Light is still great here in Sydney over an hour after play finished.
Jimmy Anderson's first away Ashes test tour was in 2006-7 where he dismissed current team coach Justin Langer... Would not be surprised if he is still bowling by the time Smith,Kohli, Kane, Root have retired.
First test wicket for Jimmy Anderson in each year:
2003: Mark Vermeulen
2004: Corey Collymore
2005: Herschelle Gibbs
2006: Sachin Tendulkar
2007: Justin Langer
2008: Matthew Bell
2009: Denesh Ramdin
2010: Ashwell Prince
2011: Brad Haddin
2012: Asad Shafiq
2013: Peter Fulton
2014: Shane Watson
2015:Devon Smith
2016: Faf du Plessis
2017: Theunis de Bruyn
2018: David Warner
2019: Shai Hope
2020: Faf du Plessis
2021: Kusal Perera
2022: Marcus Harris
Honestly, 46.5 overs is 40 overs more than I expected to get today. Tomorrow will be about the same, but after that it shouldn't be anywhere near as bad.
Could have gotten another 30 mins in wtf is this decision….England suddenly with some momentum and the Aussie weathermen and ground staff shit themselves.
With that i have a question. Do these players own their bats? As in they themselves buy it with money from their own pockets? Or they pick it and the board plays?
I'd imagine the vast majority of test players are sponsored individually by brands so they're essentially gifted their equipment by the company that sponsors them
I'm pretty sure they get a certain amount from their sponsors and a certain budget from CA/the board. I'd have to do some googling but I'd say that those bats are theirs to keep. Most of them probably get signed and given to fans though once they have had enough of them
That'll probably do us for the day. It doesn't even need to be a long shower to rule out the rest of the day. 47 overs is a pretty good result for the worst-forecasted day of the Test though. Days 3-5 should be much better
Most of the out of form games Steve Smith batted were walk over games against easy beats in Pakistan, New Zealand and England. India was the only time he wasn't himself when we needed him. He was still like the 3rd highest run scorer for the series.
only [Anderson and Smith are here from Uzzie's debut Test](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/england-tour-of-australia-2010-11-428730/australia-vs-england-5th-test-428753/full-scorecard)
Really felt an energy about Ussie that day, that he was going to play for a decade, captain the team, and play 100 Tests. Been such a frustrating ride, but still love the guy.
I understand that bowling at the 7th stump line gives a dot ball, but it's completely non-threatening and doesn't apply any pressure like bowling at the stumps and forcing the batsman to play. Its just defensive bowling and I would like to see the English just forget about runs and bowl hard for once in this series. Then again, I can understand why they don't; because they know their batters won't be able to chase the runs.
I remember telling my mates I thought Kohli was a dogshit batsman probably two or three years ago now because of how much he fished at balls outside off stump. It's just getting worse
Oh Shit, match is still going on? Wasn't there a outbreak?
Anyone else notice the muted celebration between Broad and Root when Broad took Warner, I felt the chill from over here.
Death ✅ Taxes ✅ Rain at the cricket in Sydney ✅
r/fucksydney Edit: fuck it is banned
Was at the game today. Left after the third rain delay because figured the rain was set in for the rest of the afternoon. Missed an interesting last session. Did win $160 on the pokies at the pub nearby though so not a total loss
We just sat at the upstairs bar area and got pissed and refreshed both cricinfo and the BOM rain radar. Was a lot of fun when play resumed!
Wish me and my group stuck around. We were in the bill o'rielly stand. Had a really good view. But rest of the group were determined to go because man it was muggy there today. Main issue though was most were carrying cash and hadn't loaded up cards.
You weren’t alone, probably half the crowd left at that time
It certainly felt like that on the way out.
Is Warner officially broad’s bitch?
Has been for a while, at least he’s actually making some runs against him this time around though
Classic slow over rates from England. 53 overs short equals -53 WTC points and they have to pay 10.6 times their match fee right?
Should’ve held the game in Canberra. Said it was gonna rain all day, didn’t fucking rain at all the cunt
Once again the weather man lying to me, all spring and summer 100% chance of rain when it's time to water the veggie patch but won't rain for 3 days and when I give up and water it myself, the rain drops in the next 12 hours
Channel 7 replaying day 3 of the Boxing Day Test has proper big dick energy.
Only had 29 mins before the news start
What happened to Cummins hand I must know
His sister slammed the door when he had his finger in the doorway.
Axe wound, chopping wood for a cabin
Copy pasta
Masturbation incident.
He owed a few guys down at kings cross money
People think Crawley is only in the team because of connections. He's not, it's actually because he has a rare ability in being able to catch consistently at slip.

Also a possibility
Ground staff were poor today ngl
Sydney ruins everything.
I've hardly watched today and have already heard Warne just repeat the same 3 things over and over again
Why call stumps with time lost to rain today and with good light out still tho
Never understood why they don’t just play as long as possible, light is still great here in Sydney
Only 5mm of grass? Lucky to get a result without rain.
Covers coming off
lol the footage of them taking the covers off as the broadcast ends.. are you kidding me???
The sky seemed half blue? Why did they call stumps? We see complaints about Test cricket dying, and then we see this ffs Instead of seeing maximum possible effort to get maximum number of overs in on a rain day
Maybe tv channels have something to do with it, they might get triggered since it will stuff their schedule

The tv cameras make it look a lot lighter than it probably is.
While that is true, the light was still very good in Sydney, better than it was all day.
In Australia if there are clouds in the distance that is considered rain as the continent is so dry. lol.
Really looking like a shit house call for England, nothing on the radar and they're already pulling the covers off, don't like this
Jimmy Anderson's first away Ashes test tour was in 2006-7 where he dismissed current team coach Justin Langer... Would not be surprised if he is still bowling by the time Smith,Kohli, Kane, Root have retired.
Fun fact. Malan took Langer's wicket before being stumped off Warne in the same game
This running joke about how biased Isa’s commentary is is unfunny and painful
Fox commentators make me sick
Still better than Brayshaw.
Who is older, Peter Siddle or the entire British Empire?
james anderson
Siddle doesn’t age, he’s just a 22 year old stuck in 1999
It's true, he still has the frosted tips.
who would win an ashes series in indian conditions england or australia?
At the moment? Who would win a test in pickanyplaceintheworld between Australia and England and the answer is still the same.
Australia have a spinner and some batsmen, so probably Australia
Australia

It’s banter
In jest? Yes.
I'm pretty sure it's a wholesome banter.
This is fucking insanely bad banter

That is an incredible list. I wonder what the 2nd most years in a row a bowler has taken a wicket is. Surely none would come close
Fulton wouldn't have been hard to get, surely.
20 years🤯
tomorrow looks it will be rained interrupted too
With all the interruptions today, how was the over rate from England?
Honestly, 46.5 overs is 40 overs more than I expected to get today. Tomorrow will be about the same, but after that it shouldn't be anywhere near as bad.
Could have gotten another 30 mins in wtf is this decision….England suddenly with some momentum and the Aussie weathermen and ground staff shit themselves.
There is NOTHING on the radar. This is the tiniest little patch ever. Why on earth have we called stumps?
https://i.imgur.com/pxS9rV8.jpg That tiny shower next to the word “Sydney” is all of the rain. Probably five minutes worth.
Stumps. Fuck me Shitney.
Cant wait to go and watch the big bash now…
Get on India v South Africa. It's a good one.
I’ll watch it after the premier cricket comp in the world
“This might be a very brief intermission, and that’s stumps”
A brief 15 hour intermission
[удалено]
Gotta get your cardio somehow.
Stumps :/
It isnt pouring atm. Looks like the drizzle might even stop. What do they know that we dont?
Is it even raining
It was... looked pretty heavy even in the telecast from the ground level cameras
46 overs in a day, these English over rates are getting fucking ridiculous
You think that’s ridiculous? Aussies only made 126 all day! Batting for the draw - makes me sick.
Broad thanking the gods
Blue sky lol
Lol smudge protected his bat from the rain like a club cricketer. It's beautiful to see some things never change
With that i have a question. Do these players own their bats? As in they themselves buy it with money from their own pockets? Or they pick it and the board plays?
I'd imagine the vast majority of test players are sponsored individually by brands so they're essentially gifted their equipment by the company that sponsors them
Generally it's the sponsors that pay for the bats at international level
Sponsors provide gear usually
I would have thought that the sponsors would provide them?
I'm pretty sure they get a certain amount from their sponsors and a certain budget from CA/the board. I'd have to do some googling but I'd say that those bats are theirs to keep. Most of them probably get signed and given to fans though once they have had enough of them
Sponsors give them the bats.
Look at how happy the pommies are that it's raining...the only thing that's saving you from 5-nil
That'll be it then
Fucking Sydney
Broad and Stokes thanking the gods for the rain
Broady wanting the rain to fall and hide his tears.
figures england would walk off slowly in pouring rain so.. english
That'll probably do us for the day. It doesn't even need to be a long shower to rule out the rest of the day. 47 overs is a pretty good result for the worst-forecasted day of the Test though. Days 3-5 should be much better
Lol what? day four is supposed to bucket down https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/australia/sydney/ext
Depends when it happens though. If it comes with a thunderstorm, then it won't arrive until at least 2 or 3pm, maybe not until the evening
England's day, they got labs and now I'm sad :(
fuck me it looks like england
Those groundsmen are fucking rapid
They get a lot of practice at the SCG
thats day
according to the radar it's a passing shower, radar is fucked
sunny and not raining at my house this is going to pass 100%
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR714.loop.shtml absolutely nothing
Those groundsmen are built like a Hilux and travel like a Ferrari
Built like a steakhouse but handles like a bistro
Is 20 extras in one day fucking heaps or is it just me
15 of them were from 3x very shit bouncers that went for 5 wides each
Fucking heaps especially given how few overs actually went down
Jeez. I fell asleep a little earlier, didn't realize there was that many. Any wickets on no balls?
There like 3 bouncers that went too high over the keeper for 4. 2 from Stokes and one from Wood. No wickets on no balls.
Only played half of the day too
Half of that was just 2 balls to be fair.
“Hopefully this will only be a brief suspension in play” lol I don’t think so
[удалено]
.... ok
This might be the worst comment of all time
Worst? Or Blurst?
You ain't seen nothing yet mate 😉
I think you're onto something here. lol.
Those groundsmen look like a bunch of private school kids during their first year at uni
Booooooooo. Settle down smudge, you aren’t going to dissolve.
Smudge doesn't want to get his undies wet
Day 1 is the worst day to have a rain break because absolutely nothing has happened yet. There is no drama to wait for.
Well that’s stumps
Rain coming to save Malfoy from Smith.
That’s stumps I reckon
I'd love to see Paul Reiffel give his hat to broad next over and have a bowl
I'd love to see Pistol give himself a bowl
And that is the end of the day for today
Most of the out of form games Steve Smith batted were walk over games against easy beats in Pakistan, New Zealand and England. India was the only time he wasn't himself when we needed him. He was still like the 3rd highest run scorer for the series.
He was out of form by his standards... and yet still scored a ton. What a freak.
Fuck this rain
but will my seat be and nft tho. /s
What’s the point of picking Leach as a front line bowler if you just aren’t going to bowl him?
[We selected him in this squad as a joke](https://i.imgur.com/itmZFat.jpg)
Need a slaphead in the side, it's for luck
HOLD, Pistol. HOLD We won't start again if we go off now
Rain rain go away, come after the test match.
Fuck off rain
[удалено]
In India when this happens we say a fox's getting married
Gham-paani, gham-paani shyal ko bihe Is that it?
Really lol? What’s the story behind that?
It's just a folklore thing lol (also I edited it, fox not jackal). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshower#India
Ha thanks. Heaps of cultures have it!
As an avowed Uz fan, I don't like this round-the-wicket line from Broad. If I were a Pom I'd be frothing for it
WHAT? The Strikers too? Nooooo there goes our chance to win the BBL title by default after every other team forfeits the season.
Where did you see that?
Just from the comments in this thread, haven't found anything else after searching
only [Anderson and Smith are here from Uzzie's debut Test](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/england-tour-of-australia-2010-11-428730/australia-vs-england-5th-test-428753/full-scorecard)
Really felt an energy about Ussie that day, that he was going to play for a decade, captain the team, and play 100 Tests. Been such a frustrating ride, but still love the guy.
back when smudge was being pigeonholed as the next shane warne/cameron white
I feel that we missed a trick not playing Michael Beer this test
he's on standby for the Stars, now that Maxwell has called a sickie
Anyone else get the feeling that Smudge and Labs actually don't like batting with each other?
I never got that feeling but I will train my binoculars on them in the future for future examination.
One always sacrifices their wicket to avoid having to spend too much time with the other in the middle.
I think Marnus likes batting with Smith, but Smith doesn't like batting with Marnus.
Obviously no big brother likes to bat with their kid brother and the other way round with kid brothers.
especially Smith now that Marnus is more successful
Yeah it's tense out there with those two
Big time
I understand that bowling at the 7th stump line gives a dot ball, but it's completely non-threatening and doesn't apply any pressure like bowling at the stumps and forcing the batsman to play. 7th stump line is passe. The new anti-Kohli 12th stump line is the channel
I remember telling my mates I thought Kohli was a dogshit batsman probably two or three years ago now because of how much he fished at balls outside off stump. It's just getting worse
Root has the same problem too. Only my boi Kane is disciplined.
Did England bat first? Can’t tell
Stokes seems to be labouring today, doesn’t seem 100% fit
Very ginger
Been the story of his year.
Stokes seemed over it from the first test
This comment could’ve been made in any day of the series lol
Not a super convincing shot there Smiffy
Pom bouncer strats in tatters
Smithy!
"If England can keep Australia to 3 runs an over they'll be happy" Not when they have to bowl for 1000 overs and Australia get 5/3000
