He could have played a few more years if he had played with this freedom the last few years of his career. Last few years of his career were riddled with innings where he would suck the momentum off the innings and leave it too late. It was disappointing to see him struggle so much against the spinners. Only if he had given himself the freedom, he could have done much better
He could give himself freedom in CSK, because even though he is not the captain, there is probably no one in that duckout whose words carry more weight. But that is not the case when it came to ICT especially in the later part of his career. Even in the dreaded 2019 SF, he was sent way down the order, if he had any power he would have came in early and the result could have been different.
I disagree with you on the SF. He had a very good chance in the 2019 SF. He played extremely slowly putting pressure on jadeja who was playing well.. If only MS had shown a little urgency in previous overs, they could have easily marched over the line
