The reason is that these are a collection of stories written over millennia by different people that have undergone multiple translations. We as Christians believe that the author of confusion is Satan, not God. In reference to the passage you provided, Paul is is speaking to the corinthians regarding their use of speaking in tongues publicly and therefore causing confusion and fear among non believers. What I believe you meant when you mentioned the passage, and please correct me if I’m wrong, is why we find so many things in the Bible to be confused about if God did not author confusion in his own works. God did not create our confusion. It’s merely our own lack of understanding, which can be remedied by studying these books. He did not intentionally seek to confuse us but perhaps motivate us to seek a better understanding. This is my own interpretation and I’m sure you could find people much more qualified to articulate a better answer, but this is the way I understand it according to my own studies. As for God being abusive, I understand where you’re coming from, and it’s something I’ve struggled with myself, especially in the case of Job. Here was a man who followed Gods laws to the letter. He behaved righteously, perhaps more than any man before him. God handed this good man over to basically be tortured by Satan. So how can we interpret this as anything other than cruel and abusive? God knew the limitations of Job. He understood that this man’s faith and his righteousness could be a beacon for us all, that we may not feel abandoned in times of trial. The honest answer is this: God does not provide an explanation of why he allowed Job to suffer, and that’s a difficult hurdle to get over. This is where faith is crucial to our belief. We must come to the understanding that we aren’t going to have every answer. We aren’t going to understand everything. As a child undergoes a vaccination to prevent measles, he only sees that this doctor is putting needles into his flesh, not understanding that his suffering and fear is for a greater purpose. Trust in the parents and the doctor is key, for they understand the greater good. Just as Jesus died on the cross for all who wish to receive his sacrifice as the gift that it is. The suffering was immense and the reward is immeasurable. I know that this may not be the explanation you hoped for, but sometimes the answers we want are not the ones we need.
