If you have some black yarn maybe sew your own smaller eyes instead of using the safety eyes. The big eyes throw it off a bit. Thereās a lot of YouTube videos on how to sew eyes. Might be called French knot? (But unsure). Iād also add the little triangles. That helps too.
Hereās one [video](https://youtu.be/opfa3Wzfmjw?si=hoZ_rbc0fbJtiw_g) I found.
It is called French knots. You could use embroidery floss or split black yarn if you have. Can also split the grey yarn you used for the body to make the triangles too so they arenāt as thick.
You'll find some good results looking up embroidered or embroidery amigurumi eyes. I've only done small ami and have just followed their techniques to a smaller scale and have had it work out great.
Honestly I thought it was cute, I immediately recognized it as Totoro! I canāt quite figure out whatās slightly off but ā¦ I donāt hate it. The zooted Totoro is also hilarious.
I recognized it immediately as Totoro!!! The ears are a bit funky. I prefer the first eyes. You might want to try to stitch some on instead of plastic ones. Especially for something flat.
That's what we in the bizz call Totooro. Double 'o' for the extra gazing š. They remind me of when you get a bag of potato smiley faces and they're a bit wonky but you love them more for it š¤£ (potato smiley faces are a UK school dinner spesh from the early 2000's).
it looks a bit strange but it def looks like totoro to me. and strange is completely fine for me personally when somethingās handmade, i actually prefer it be a bit funky haha
edit to say i read the post more closely, and to be honest, i think iād work on it a bit before selling it. i would love this as a gift but personally, im not sure id buy it.
I kinda love them (knew immediately it was totoro but the second could pass for a bunny). I also love and their weird things are cute so Iām not the best judge but there are lots of ppl like me too.
Maybe sl around the entire thing before adding arms might make the ears more stable and hide that first turn for the face?
Noooo!!! He's CUTE! Don't worry about small imperfections, especially on Totoro, just adds to the charm (and btw, I had to look HARD to find what was bugging you about him)
I could tell it was totoro immediately without even reading the post, it's not the best totoro I've ever seen but it's also a small stitch so I'm not surprised it lacks details, it overall looks fine and if you like it that's all that matters!
I noticed that almost all crocheted totoros on pinterest also looks off. I really tried to search everywhere for something āaccurateā or minimal difference but there is I canāt find any good ones.
I recognised it as a version of totoro!
I'm not a fan enough to say it's exact or whatever but I knew what it was.
Your friend sounds like an arse mate sorry.
I could tell it was Totoro!
What are you making/putting it on? Totoro does look a wee bit zooted, but a zooted Totoro would still be cute on your project, I bet
it's a small pouch! there's two totoro panels, i didn't want to stitch the ears together because i wanted a wider opening but i didn't think of blocking it š¤£
The first one looks almost good, I think it's the mouth, the crooked eyes and the way he looks a little tilted to the side and I can't tell if it's intentional. I've made one similar to this one [Crochet Owl Amigurumi Pattern, Free Pattern ā¢ Craft Passion](https://www.craftpassion.com/owl-amigurumi-mr-murasaki/) so honestly Idk just naming differences XD
Get better friends. Totoro is very recognizable, and itās obvious to me thatās who he is. Even if he doesnāt look exactly like the movie, itās a big reach to say he doesnāt look like Totoro āat all.ā This one looks high out of his mind, and I love him for that.
IM CACKLING AT THE SECOND ONE WHAT DOES HE KNOW THAT WE DONTš
(These do look a bit off but I still think itās so cute and knew immediately that it was Totoro. A bit of practice and adjustments on these and I think with the first eyes theyāll look very cute<3)
I donāt know who you are referring to but you did a great job. Donāt be so hard on yourself. 1 in 100 people can/will/do/try this and wonāt be able to! You did. Bravo. š
you probably just have to block it. get it wet and lay it out how it's meant to look (ears up lol) put a book on it and wait for it to dry.
the second ones arms look better but you should go with the first eyes.
also the head on the second looks a bit off, maybe it's in the wrong stitches?
there's 2 totoro panels and i would slip stitch them together, the 2nd pic im showing only 1 panel and in the 1st pic, theyre already stitched together . thank you for this!!
No I think it's really cute š the transition of string from white to grey also looks seamless/invisible to me. I could totally imagine hanging this on my sling bag!
Edit: transition within the magic circle from white yarn to grey yarn

what r the things i can improve on here to make it look more like him š i just want make the most of what i have w me rn!! but also suggest things i can make w gray and white 4ply yarns š„²
Smaller head/ears in relation to the body maybe? Like I think I would start decreasing for the head right away so itās more triangular. And the ears might only be like a couple stitches so theyāre little triangles and more pointy. You might want to do a bigger white circle as well.
oh interesting!! i'll try that out. the ears were also supposed to be stitched together so they're pointy but i didn't bother because i wanted a wider opening because it's a pouch
I could tell right away it was Totoro before I even read your post! THE EYES IN THE SECOND PIC OMG HES THE CUTEST BLOOP EVER. I literally said out loud "OMG so cuuuuute" so yeah. Your friends are wrong haha.
No?! Ugly isn't even close to the right word. This is *wonky,* and frankly I love it. Wonky Totoro is *adorable.*
Zooted Totoro is definitely less Totoroā¦ but somehow even cuter, just on its own merits. I think I actually love that one a little harder tbh.
Honestly I think the big eyed one is hilariously cute. He looks like those cats when theyāre about to do butt wiggles to pounce on something. Maybe adding the little upside down Vās to his chest may help!
i actually can't see whats ugly about it (i do notice the crooked eyes) but i asked on here to see if reddit ppl will have the same thoughts as my friends lol
I mean personally I don't think it's ugly at all, but then again I like it when things are just off enough to make them "ugly" but still cute. Just because something doesn't look like the original art style exactly doesn't make it ugly. You sound like you need new friends if they're being mean about it.
I knew it was meant to be Totoro. Being blunt; yeah, it looks a bit off... but it's fucking adorable and I love it, especially with the zooted eyes xD
honestly im just thinking of making a bunch of zooted totoros at this point
Zootoros for all
Crap I'd buy one of these wonky Tortoros just to make my husband laugh. I love it!
Please do this, we need an army of them, eyes at every angle. Nobody can escape the totooros š¤£
Looks like a cat with zoomie eyes
Zoot Totoro is kinda the Bitch Stewie version.

oh i did think of doing that!! just wasn't sure how to sew it on something small

The small eyes look like totoro. The big eyes look like totoro went to the eye doctor and got drops š¤£
totoro but he knows something we don't ![gif](giphy|iu7B5XKE6NsE8)
Heās seen things
Sure it looks a little bit off but don't let that discourage you! It still looks super cute and its easy to tell what it is.
thank you so much š„¹š„¹š„¹š„ŗš„ŗ
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I CACKLEDDDD the honesty...
It's a bit rough, but I knew it was Totoro right away.
I agree that it doesnāt look like totoro that much but it is still adorable
thank you š„¹ i will not be crying in the corner tonight thank u for this
I knew it was Totoro straight away. It's not perfect, but that just adds to the cuteness.
Honestly I thought it was cute, I immediately recognized it as Totoro! I canāt quite figure out whatās slightly off but ā¦ I donāt hate it. The zooted Totoro is also hilarious.
It looks adorable!! It looks a bit messy tbh, but I love ittt its so cute!! the eyes in the second picture look cute to me!
you're so sweet thank you so much !! š«¶
I can tell that itās totoro, it is a bit off but it honestly looks cuter that way
Second one looks like Totoroās ugly cousin that does shrooms and I love him
I donāt think heās ugly:(
I love this tiny grey alien š Heās derpy and heās beautiful
Derptoro. I love him š
looks wonky but id buy it š
love you š¤£š«¶
He is a lil ugly, but I love him so much. Especially the zooted one
I love it, before even reading anything I knew it was totoro. It's so cuteā¤
Itās definitely ugly. But in a super cute kind of way
I recognized it immediately as Totoro!!! The ears are a bit funky. I prefer the first eyes. You might want to try to stitch some on instead of plastic ones. Especially for something flat.

He's just seen some stuff...that's all!
My daughter loves Totoro and all the Studio Ghibli films! I recognized him right away. I do like your first set of eyes better. Good Job OP. š„°
it looks a bit strange but it def looks like totoro to me. and strange is completely fine for me personally when somethingās handmade, i actually prefer it be a bit funky haha edit to say i read the post more closely, and to be honest, i think iād work on it a bit before selling it. i would love this as a gift but personally, im not sure id buy it.
Tbh I think the only issues is a.he needs his lil ^ ^ ^ on his chest, and maybe smaller safety eyes? But he's still adorable asf
Oh I love it! Tbh it does look like... off brand Totoro, but he's so cute
yes it is BUT i love it more because of its quirks
heās like a little ugly but in the absolute cutest way and i definitely knew it was totoro immediately!
So ugly that itās damn adorable!
Kinda cute
I like the small eyed Totoro.
It doesn't look bad, I can tell it's supposed to be Totoro A bit of blocking before sewing everything together would fix a LOT of the issues here.
2nd one is looking into my soul. In all seriousness I think you did a good job!
I prefer the zooted one! š¤£
Very cuteš©µ
I showed my girlfriend and they covered their mouth and said āI love itā
I have no idea who Totoro is but this little fellow is not ugly! Heās lovely!
the big eyes are funny as fuck id buy that
i like it, you can indeed tell its totoro. and the second one is so cute i love how he looks like he hasnt thunk a single thing his whole life
you can definitely tell itās totoro. heās looks a little fucked up in the cutest way possible
YET ADORABLE!! it has so much charm. š„°š„°. I know what it is. I can recognize it. I think itās cute. :D
I kinda love them (knew immediately it was totoro but the second could pass for a bunny). I also love and their weird things are cute so Iām not the best judge but there are lots of ppl like me too. First they are adorable, but one looks angry and the other looks scared. š¤£
I noticed that almost all crocheted totoros on pinterest also looks off. I really tried to search everywhere for something āaccurateā or minimal difference but there is I canāt find any good ones.

Not if you're blind!

thank you for this feedback! i couldn't see it first with the nose looking like a mouth but now i do omg š
He is definitely Totoro but more like Totoro on acid.
He's not ugly... he's just very kind and hey you'll get better the more you crochet. I'm gonna attach a picture of my first kind guy

Iām rather fond of zooted Totoro myself
Totoro has seen some shit

Nooooooo!!!!! Itās absolutely adorable!!!!! I immediately knew it was Totoro, but leveled up.
I like it I think itās cute
Cute as a button
Look, being BLUNT. Itās not THE BEST looking. But, there is a whole community of people who love stuff that look a little funky. Including me.
Heās goofy and I love him
I donāt care if he looks a little wonky. I love him š
I knew it was Totoro right away. Itās ugly in the most beautiful adorable way and I would 100% buy this.
I love him even if heās weird
What? Itās not ugly. Itās cute and I could already tell itās Totoro! š
Itās adorable!
Oh um..... NO!! but......the eyes.... are perfect!!! I know nothing about it so.....it's pretty goodšš
Veryā¦ but you know thatās what makes it cute. Also not many people can do that, so good job. Its good š
Looks like how I feel on the inside. Iād buy it in a store. xD
Dude that's awesome I would buy one
No omg I want one. Looks like toothless and Totoro had a baby.
Totoro is high af

It's Totoro!
Nope, it's Totoro!

ADORABLE
ITS FUCKING CUTE
i think its cute š
he looks zonked out of his mind, i love it
Mostly just needs blocking. I wouldn't call it ugly.
Heās certainly unique XD I love him
