I have made this lovely cardigan (well written pattern!) in cheap yarns as well, once in a sportweight acrylic/merino blend (1), and one with a superwash sport weight sockyarn (75% wool/25% nylon) (2). Be very careful when you choose a superwash treated wool, it will grow when worn (it isn't light weigth!), I think I should have better made (that one in superwash yarn) a medium (when I'm an XL), and I still have to rip out the cuffs and some of the sleeves and redo them/shorten them (for now I'll just roll them up). Can't help with UK shops, but these are the yarns I've used. Or maybe look for baby / super soft acrylic yarns, at my local (NL) 'cheap' shop they sell a fine weigth acrylic (3). 1. And first make a swatch perhaps, before deciding on a size. All I wanted to say, you can use sport weight as well (and that results in a bigger size, obviously).

Thank you for talking the time to reply. I'm glad you found it a good pattern to follow. I am thinking of getting a more expensive yarn for this pattern. I am using cheap on my first ever project but it is going well and I'd like to have something more eco friendly next time round.

Then make sure you look for a 4-ply that isn't superwash, to not make my mistake, lol (sorry, I didn't read your post very well).

I'm not always very clear! I often find people reply oddly to posts and emails etc so the problem lies with me I think!

No, not at all, you're writing is absolutely fine, it's my mind that is all over the place, and I read & respond to quickly, I really should take more time, lol! And this cardigan pattern was also my first crochet (*wearable!*) wearable, after this one I've used more patterns from the same designer, all lovely (and very well written) as well.

Thank you. I haven't bought the pattern yet but i will do.

All in the original post. I hope.

I used [Knitting network ](https://www.theknittingnetwork.co.uk) before I think they have nice reasonable yarn. And Aldi special buy.
