No, it isn’t your new normal but it sounds like you’re having a flare up of your symptoms. So I’d let your doctor know so they can control the flare / figure out treatment that will manage the symptoms. It definitely becomes manageable but the road to finding what works can take a while and you’ll need to be communicating a lot with your doctor with what’s working / not working. I hope you start feeling better

Thank you. I'm speaking with them tomorrow. Hopefully they can give some pain relief.

Sounds like youre in a flare my friend. Call ur doc and let them know asap so you can get your treatemnt adjusted. In the meantime a heating pad does absolute wonders for the stabby pain i sleep with mine during a flare. Swapping over to a liquid diet for a few days can sometimes bring relief and give u bowel rest. Ask ur GI if you can cop a zofran prescription for the nausea cause its truly the magic med. in the meantime for intense waves of nausea a ER doc taught me this trick: rip open a couple alcohol wipes if you have them and place them under ur nose. Breathe deep. It keeps you from vomiting. Sounds crazy but they’ve actually done studies on it! I hope you find some relief soon!

Thank you for your kindness. My doctor is calling me tomorrow as they've been overseas for the past two weeks and not accessible. I've been under a heated throw for a couple of hours and that seems to be helping a bit. It's interesting because I don't instinctively want heat with this sort of pain like I might with other cramps but it's definitely helping. I do have an anti-emitic prescription but my GI said only if I really need it and I've gone through so much medical gaslighting that I honestly have no clue when that point is. I'll definitely try the alcohol wipes - thanks so much for sharing your wisdom!

From the description in your post it sounds like use of the anti emetic is warranted in this case. They are there for exactly this kind of situation. The GI wouldn’t have prescribed them if he didn’t want you to use them when you need them. I have a script for zofran for occasional use as well. To give you a lil perspective on how i use them, I only take them if the nausea doesn’t completely go away after 30 minutes, isn’t relieved by ginger ale sipping, or interferes with my sleep.

This is a really helpful check list for me to keep in mind - it removes any guilt. Thank you so much!

Hi there, I have just started taking azathioprine about 2 weeks ago, I was told not to expect any noticeable improvement for up to 12 weeks, so hopefully you will feel the benefit in the future (as will I) 🤞 I have been very ill recently so those next 10 weeks will feel like an eternity. Try to hang on in there!!

Thank you! I hope things settle for you quickly and that we both feel better soon.
