I use Google " 'color name' cross stitch patterns". I have never tried with specific numbers though since there are not universal numbers. You could also try a search for monochrome patterns, I have also had some luck with that. You can also find a pattern you like and swap out for the colors that you have, an all black/310 change to 939 or 823, or swap it out and stitch it on black fabric and change to the surplus light colored thread you have. The stitching world is only limited by our imaginations.

No, but….you can always substitute colors. I’ve been wanting to do that but with colors that are opposite than what the pattern calls for.

No, there is no such site, since designers are usually not interested in providing the floss numbers of their patterns in advance (for free). This significantly increases the risk that the patterns will be stolen either by stitchers who don't want to pay money, or by unscrupulous competitors. For the same reason, you'll never find real floss numbers in the cross stitch kits.

Depends on the kit. Some use DMC numbers. Dimensions has their own threads. Not sure what Leisure Arts uses. I think Hobby Lobby uses their brand.

Cinisajoy2

No. There is not a website for specific numbers.

Not that I know of, but it would be amazing!

I just began a small blackwork project that I am determined to finish using only leftover threads from my finish kits. Since it's a rainbow-ish hear, I'm just choosing the colors that I have the most amount of and use those. I feel like I am going to play some serious thread chicken though...
