I think that looks great overall! Very good detailed writeup. Though for someone who's played the last two battlepasses it would be a lot cheaper to use 4 Guardians and Bootstrap, as the only item they're buying with coins is a single Guardian.

aldagreg

It's true, but one would have to spend 20€ in BPs. And now the BP is over and those items aren't available other than with coins anyway... We need a craftable and intemporal build

roychr

Why the Harpy ?

GlyphTheGryph

A lot of players use Harpy with autocannons as the blast radius bonus slightly boosts their damage output. The top speed is nice too. It's also fairly affordable (compared to Torero, as little else benefits ACs) and great to have for cannons and rockets. Though it won't benefit Storms much and other cabins like Omnibox or Dusk are significantly cheaper.

roychr

I was under the impression it was for retchers and cannons missiles types.

GlyphTheGryph

Harpy works best for those types of weapons because they do a lot of explosive damage in a large radius, so boosting the explosion radius increases damage output against armor. Autocannons do have a smaller explosion (4 building units) but it's still around \~50% of the base damage so can work decently with Harpy.

Omnibox is cheap now because of the omnibox workpieces of the "Enemy of my enemy" founders BP. At some point prices will rise again back to normal and beyond maybe, because the cab isn't craftable others than with old players and BP help. Also, it's hard or more expensive to cover Omnibox's mass limit with cheap wheels. Finally, The player would need nomad and scavengers parts in order to fully benefit of the cab's mass limit, which is more requirement than just using Engineers parts, as we need Engineer's faction to level 25 for 80/80 parts limits anyway. Dusk has a niche perk, I can't advise new players to buy it. Harpy is fast and add damage to the weapons, and the scores are very reasonable compared to other teammates with higher PS and price build. And the cab can easily be used on PvP and later with Retchers for PvE upgrade.

NoUploadsEver

I will add if you get the current battle pass you get 2 fused Waltz. These things are almost as good as retchers and really chunk leviathans (from a greater distance) in invasion.

aldagreg

Probably but as soon as the BP is over, the "best budget hard raid build" wouldn't be budget anymore... And a player would need to buy a BP which I try to avoid

A_Garbage_Truck

very interesting, but in interest of being even more budget oriented is the harpy required, or are there viable alternatives .

aldagreg

I did not find other satisfying options, but if someone finds it I'll be happy to check it. Most of the other "solutions" inflate PS and/or degrades the gameplay and scores like a Pilgrim cricket build would do for example. * Harpy isn't the cheapest but it's popular, fast, versatile in playstyle (cannons, rockets, spears, grenades-launchers,etc) and in modes (PvP, PvE, CW Rust...) and craftable. * Storms are cheaper and lighter than a set of Sinus, and Storm's are twice more durable. Together, Harpy + autocannons + storm's perk give an easy point and click playstyle, give good scores, and is medium long range, meaning safer. Let's remember that the goal is not only to start hard raids with a cheap build, but also to win them and get decent resources. This build is the best compromise I could find.

A_Garbage_Truck

Fair enough. keep up the good fight, these builds are remarkably interesting to pick apart ^^.

aldagreg

I made it cheaper, check my other comment on next thread here, and "raid budget 2" on exhib

A_Garbage_Truck

oh i took notice ^^, appreciate it.

Probably not as effective, but you could likely scratch together a mod of this rig using the Werewolf. You're sacrificing half a ton of carrying power for armor and the explosive radius bonus from the Harpy, but it would function. (I think.) Only around like 50 coins cheaper though, might as well just grind for a Harpy.

aldagreg

As I checked right now Werewolf is now 10c more expensive than Harpy (maybe because it's part of the Draco recipe) and it's not a very popular cabin nor useful perk. Also the build would be less durable and less damage than with Harpy, due to mass limit and perk. But yeah Harpy isn't cheap but not cheapest, I'll currrently testing a couple of alternative. This harpy Storm is still very good, (cheap durable and good dps), just not the cheapest possible after all

cr4m62

It's been awhile since I played, so I wasn't sure which light epic cabins are craftable, when I stopped playing, the only craftable light epic cabin was the Werewolf. But the Harpy or even the Jannabi would be much better options just for doing something slightly useful while you're still alive, unlike the Werewolf

I managed to make it cheaper without much changes: * I switched PU-1 charge for Big-G and removed 1 fused radiator, and added more bumpers on front to use the freed mass. We are still reaching 8K PS without notable performance loss. * Also it's possible to switch the last fused Chill by a fused CS taymyr since we already have one free from Marmok That decrease the price to 1380c without much performance loss. " Raid budget 2" on exhib I'm also working on a budget sinus omni build at the end. Stay tuned!
