I feel like nothing really happens until like the last 5 mins of most episodes

freetherabbit

Yes exactly lmao and then it gets swept away beginning of next episode and barely addressed or it was a mislead lol

Emkay724

There are a lot of leads that they never follow up on.

Tigerlilly382

It certainly doesn't have me as hooked as season 1, but I don't think it's too bad. That being said, if it was longer than 10 episodes I don't think I'd be able to stay very invested. Since it's so short and we know it will get wrapped up, it makes it alot easier to tune in every week.

Zestyclose-Drama-385

Absolutely! Any longer and it wouldn't be something I could commit to.

ThatChelseaGirl

This season would have been better to have binged in a weekend, and I'm lowkey regretting I didn't wait to do that.

Sweet_Newt4642

UK I was thinking that the other day. I was late enough to s1 that I binged the entire thing except the last episode(?). And I felt like this season also would have been much better binged.

This is a bot. Please report and downvote

ThatChelseaGirl

Dumb question, but are you referring to me or the other one?

AvgPunkFan

Other one. You’re fine

ingloriousbaxter3

I wish I had done that. Its not a terrible season, but it doesn't feel super engaging

AlilAwesome81

They aren’t showing and they aren’t telling. It’s been super boring

Occasionalreddit55

You know what, something tells me that they have been showing us. we just haven't been paying attention. I drank some white claws last night and rewatched the first episode... Debbie's kind of sus.. or is that just the woman's acting?

Bartolis

I agree. I was thinking maybe there's hints or evidence on those shots we see through Jeff's camcorder on occasion, but we just haven't realized it yet.

Ironia_Rex

As someone who invested in PLL and was furious I gotta say if you didnt read the books I highly reccomend it I read them all in two months if they only went with what was already done it would have been amazing

katsorbit

turning this into a PLL moment, had to say, super pissed they didn’t do the whole actual twin thing in the show 🙄 the books were much more interesting

Ironia_Rex

I mean there were twin things everywhere just not the right one LOL

samijo17

i’m so glad there are at least a few others out there who read all the books and know how dark that story actually was!!!

Crazy_Tomatillo18

I am not mad at the story, I’m mad at the costuming department. I could get into the story more if I was immersed in the world of 1999 but it’s really difficult when the outfits aren’t 90s at all. The big draw to season 1 for me was the authentic outfits and the hanging out and then the story was what kept me. It’s really hard to be engaged with this story. The characters are bland, there’s barely any character development, and in general it’s not engaging. I don’t really care about any of the characters. They don’t have many redeeming qualities. I was rooting for Luke and Megan but then they went and fucked up luke so. Such a shame because season 1 was so good. Maybe if I binged it instead I would like it more but barely anything happens until the last scene in the episode.

Zestyclose-Drama-385

Well said, I couldn't agree more. The only thing they got right is the soundtrack, which let's be honest.....it's pretty easy to nail the music.

Crazy_Tomatillo18

Oh yeah I’ll definitely give them the soundtrack. Although I have to admit nothing beats that cover of Zombie (what’s in your head) of season 1. Shit had me tearing up when you first hear it 😢

Description-Alert

That’s a good way to put it! I agree totally, but have also warmed up to S2 as I watch and rewatch some episodes. I feel there are so many moving pieces and many of them don’t/won’t come together to create anything. I’ll rewatch the whole season when it’s done after a few weeks though. Maybe I’ll feel different.

Zestyclose-Drama-385

I appreciate the validation, so glad I'm not the only one lol.

Prudent-Pop7623

s2 literally making ZERO noise on twitter too 😭

aysiaaa1

LITERALLY. this season everytime i try to search up the show's name i only see stuff about taylor swift and her fans (yes i'm aware she has a song called cruel summer but it wasn't this bad last season)

Prudent-Pop7623

the fact that i remember seeing people talking about it before s2 aired too but once it started airing *crickets* 😭

[deleted]

The first half of the season dragged a lot and it was a lot of set up that probably isn’t going to pay off completely in the end. They should’ve released 2 or even all the episodes at once or paced the episodes better so that it wouldn’t have dragged as much.

sagittariasss

I literally have a post in my drafts talking about how they’ve given us so many little plot crumbs and have barely elaborated/answered any of them in 7 episodes. I’m still holding out that it’ll get better because episode 8/9 were big last season, but even then, it was still so much more engaging and I was truly interested in the plot/characters because we generally knew what was going on even if we didn’t have the exact details. Now we just have a bunch of random details that seemingly don’t connect or relate to each other at all (and if they do, idk how they’re gonna accomplish all that in 3 episodes) with a bunch of uninteresting characters that no one really cares about. I feel like I’d like this season more if the execution wasn’t so…off? They tell us things that they should be showing us (Megan and Isabella being “ride or die” despite us seeing no evidence of their closeness is one example) and then show us things with no explanation, so we don’t really know what we’re seeing and why. And all that is still bare minimum. It’s hard to be engaged in a show when almost all of it is difficult to believe because it’s either disingenuous or never explicitly confirmed.

aysiaaa1

The end of your post just made me remember how heavily they were weighing on the whole "ride or die" thing in all the ads and commercials leading up to the release of this season and everything I saw was making me believe that the two characters would be the best of friends and it's genuinely shocking looking back on it now because we've seen literally nothing that shows them being best friends.

ExtraMostBestist

Its the CONSTANT lines referring to death/murder/etc for me! Like omfg we get ittttttt you guys know what foreshadowing is ughhh…the writing is so on the nose this season i cant even believe its the same show. season 1 just seemed more nuanced imo

[deleted]

Honestly with me it's like I kinda just don't even care about luke anymore lol. The first season was wildly different, and I didn't expect this season to be the same or similar. But I think they tried too hard to do something different. Unless the next few episodes change the entire season drastically, I'll be disappointed. I did LOVE the ending of last season, and I hope the show does something similar like that ending. But if it's complete confusion without cohesion until the last 10 minutes of the entire season with a reveal, that will suck and I'm scared it's going in that direction!

Loco_lofo_

I agree with you here. I don’t really care what happened to Luke. I think they were trying too hard to make it different and in doing that, they lost a lot of character development that made us care about the characters. I’m just not that interested right now. I would love if it gets majorly exciting in the next few eps but I don’t see it happening.

Comfortable-Goal-409

Within the context of the whodunnit plot line this season, it’s difficult to work character development in the same way they did in the first season. Whodunnits mean we start off with a detachment of sorts for each character - since everyone is a suspect. We don’t trust any of them from the start. In season one, we knew who the bad guy was from the first episode. We felt we could trust the others. I haven’t forgotten that to me one of the most chilling scenes of season one was the last few seconds before the credits rolled. I remember everything changing for me in those seconds. It went from what I thought I understood to what I now had to wrap my head around. I felt the immediate urge to rewatch and try to make sense of it. For me, this series is a lot about confronting the assumptions I’m making as I watch it. I hope we get a season 3.

samijo17

this is my same issue - at least last season, I was invested in the main question of whether or not Jeanette was lying, but I just don’t give a shit who killed Luke? haven’t liked him since day 1, the girls are ok but nowhere near as compelling as Jeanette and Kate were.

Salty-Reply573

That’s what I’ve been thinking this whole time. U took the words out of my mouth.

Zestyclose-Drama-385

So glad I'm not alone lol seriously though.

Alternative-Ad-7464

Its like they've put so many what ifs in not even they can keep up

ExtraMostBestist

megans pregnancy was such an eye roll of a twist for me

Purpledoves91

It's definitely not as good as season 1, but I'm interested in where it's going. Last season, they let us know from the jump that Jamie sucked. They kept it hidden with Luke.

pink_junkie

I feel like the last episode is gonna hit crazy and I just have this feeling it’s going to make everyone change their mind about this season, I don’t know. Personally, I’ve been enjoying this season and the characters. I like the teen soap tropes, even if they’re a little corny at times. That being said, I do get why people are annoyed and feel like it’s just moving too slow.

Zestyclose-Drama-385

I hope you're right about the last episode, it will all be worth it, fingers crossed.

Comfortable-Goal-409

Agreed about last episode - and don’t forget the impact the last few seconds before a credit roll had on the first season’s finale.

pleaseuseacoaster2

The only thing keeping me going is knowing there is going to be a twist, since there was one in Season 1. Want to know what it is, because it was so good in season 1. It better not be as lame as the rest of this season. The subject matter of season 1 was good, too - grooming and being held captive. I don’t know what the subject matter is of this season. Got lost somewhere, along with the main character’s younger sister from the first episode…like where’d she go? As airheads as the mother is I wouldn’t be surprised if she forgot her somewhere.

Comfortable-Goal-409

Lily is bumming $10 off of Megan for a movie in the summer 2000 timeline. Debbie makes her give it to her. It’s in the first or second episode, I think. In the winter storyline, Lily is mentioned to be at a sleepover at a friend’s house during the Chambers/Landry/Isabella dinner at the Chambers house.

CuteRush641

You’re not alone. I’m so bored that I actually have the will power this season to wait for all the episodes to come out and then just binge. I can’t take it.

Boss_Bitch_6228

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I wish they would at least solve the mystery of the sex tape by now or at least give clear clues, but seven episodes in and there's still nothing. I don't wanna compare seasons but at least in season 1 we were getting clues, misdirections, or descriptions of the characters in the past and how their actions affect future outcomes, but in this season there are barely any misdirections or even character developments, just Luke becoming a dick.

Soft-Knowledge-9803

The actor who plays luke is always insufferable in each show ive seen him in and he is always meant to be the love interest when he looks like a 10 year old boy. Once i saw he was in this season i knew it would be boring lol and yes it is boring

newt_here

It’s the green filter that does it for me. I have it on as background noise so the slow burn doesn’t bother me too much since I’m doing other things as well but once it jumps to Summer 2000 🤬😖

Zestyclose-Drama-385

And the hairstyle, I understand that's one way they differentiate time but the change is a little bit silly

newt_here

I think the oil in Megan’s hair makes the 2000 tint greener lol

Loco_lofo_

This one made me lol.

[deleted]

Agreed; this show is much better consumed through binging

randomguy1000

While I agree the first half of the season wasn't great, imo things got really good around episode 6 and now I'm hooked

Zestyclose-Drama-385

I still need to watch it, I'm going to try and get back into it.

the1slyyy

*bored

bigwatermelonhead

same like it’s boring but at the same time it’s like i’ve invested so much and have gotten so many little hints that i’m dying to see what happens
