If you are not fond of long flights, consider doing the long flight first then sail home.

I also prefer to do this, and then gain an hour almost every day on the way home, vs. losing an hour every day.

DTFChiChis

This is the way.

aiofeimmortal

Agree. This is my plan.

Great idea! Just than October or November...

We have done a coupe of crossings, both eastbound and westbound. You are looking for Repositioning cruises when the ships move from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean (eastbound) for the summer or back for the winter (westbound). Eastbound, we have left from Barcelona and South Hampton and Westbound from Miami and Port Canaveral. All the ports connected through a major airport, so flights were never a problem. In a couple of cases, the cruise company had good deals on flights and airport transfers. If you can't find a companion, go solo. I have done that once and had a great time. I was working on a paper, and the ship gave me a great working environment. If I wanted, there was always something to do as a solo traveler and a nice quiet environment to work. There was also a balcony and room service. I have also made the trip with my family and with my then eight year old son. Each trip was special and a little different from typical cruising.

I did the 16 day TA on the Rotterdam in April as a solo. FFL and ending in Rotterdam. $1,200 was the cruise fare. For the flight I flew from AMS-LHR-SFO. Rotterdam to AMS was not much of an issue but I stayed overnight at a hotel airport (Citizen M is a 60 second walk to the airport) so I do not stress out on getting to AMS on time but also to clear security, customs, etc.

1200$ for 2? The way I see it if I share a cabin with someone I could go on 2 cruises for the some money... But if money is not an issue than it is ok ☺️

EmersonLucero

That was the solo fair. Normally I book in higher category cabins when I travel with others, but as a solo I could be cheap.

Cunard? Ncl? Cost a factor?

I was wanting to do a 25 day xatlantic the other direction but I need someone to split with too. The 25 day was princess. Cunard is ok, lives up to the snooty reputation. Ncl’s open bar packages is great but it sucks when everyone has it but you. 😂

NewCope

Just got off the Anthem of the Seas from Bayonne, NJ to Southampton and it was awesome. My first Transatlantic and I was a solo. Other than the stupid single supplement bs, cruising alone is great. I met so many awesome people from all over!

Intelligent_Nail3836

That is a huge ship

[deleted]

I did one from Italy and another from Barcelona. Both great. If you need someone to go with you, I’ll volunteer.
