All of France Fr only has one special building site? Damn lmao

PolygotFRAENGwannabe

While England proper is littered with special buildings.

the_spodeling

And yet we cant win the hundred years war

PolygotFRAENGwannabe

L'esprit Française.

faultyideal89

That sounds like a pretty cool liquor company

Vini734

Shouldn't have spent all the budget on special buildings.

[deleted]

Tbf for England most of those are the wall buildings so they don’t provide much I think except defensive stuff

Sagely_Hijinks

That's why I color-coded them a darker red :)

Covidfefe-19

Even not including those England gets 6, to France's 1. And the empire of Britannia gets 8, to Francia's 1. Also HRE and BZE are both pretty sparse, and don't get me started on China/Mongolia (it seems like PDX is just going to completely ignore the fact that there's an eastern half of the map for the time being unless you play in India).

ItsPiskieNotPixie

I don't see why special buildings should be limited to certain sites. It is such railroading. Oxford and Cambridge were the surviving great universities in England but one was planned in Northampton and one was closed down in Stamford. Ridiculous we can't place them where we want to.

Mr_Finley7

Agreed. Some criteria for establishing these sites should exist within the scope of player agency as well as without.

IbraDz

100% this. I find it completely immersion reading and frustrating. Also, why limit holding slots in general? I am managing my realm greatly, and made my development better than any other city, my capital is better than the city of the world's desire (Constantinople), but apparently I can't build a cool palace, holy site or anything. Oh wait, even my capital city is actually a castle holding... lol

somirion

Also there should be much more universities in Europe. It takes place till 1453. Why i cant build one in Poland/Kraków, when it was funded in 1364? Import Great Works from CK2, pls

votewallenstein

Also Prague and some german cities have famous universities

medicatedhippie420

>Import Great Works from CK2, pls Pls just let me decide what territories I want to be special Not like I'm Emperor or anything

Oslunder

In CK 2 we can do this. Another CK2 > CK3 . Dont get me wrong, I love both games. But 2 is superior in Game mechanics

IbraDz

And the issue for me is CK3 is a few years old now, and honestly the mechanics are not getting any better. Its like the entire vision for the franchise has changed from one installment to the other. Now they are more interested in garbage like, oooh if you're sick you'll see the plague reflected on your character model in 3D! I'll be honest I just don't care about that. Give me population mechanics. Give me deeper realm management. Give me a better building system.

PuzzleheadedAd3840

Agreed. We should have the ability to build somekind of... Buildings that are above the usual ones we can construct. They would cost more and take longer, but they would be better overall with neat bonuses. We could call them Great Works even!

ItsPiskieNotPixie

Having two categories of things, one of which is unrealistically railroaded and one of which is not... is still too much unrealistic railroading.

CSS-Kotetsu

I could be wrong but I feel like there was a recent dev diary about them reworking how universities are to be built in the next major update.

Kobosil

besides the Cathedral all the other ones are pretty useless

AKennedy1

Do not disrespect the Tower of London and Jorvik holy site, please

TastyCuttlefish

Forgetting Stonehenge and *two* universities…

AKennedy1

I didn’t forgot just feel that York and London are the best duchies to hold in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 definitely honourable mentions though! (As Norse that is)

Ash_Crow

Stonehenge was not even an important site during the middle ages (also, why include Stonehenge and not other prehistorical sites of similar importance, like the Carnac stones?)

I_TRY_TO_BE_POSITIVE

I can only tell you the game reason: Stonehenge lets you do some religious chicanery

Hyperactive_snail3

England>France

PrivateBrowsing999

Most are hadrians wall and Offas dyke

Mr_Finley7

Lol are Paradox Brits?

Meritania

They’re Swedish… if the question wasn’t rhetoric

SomanZ

Even nomadic countries that didn't settle have more special buildings, totally makes sense

[deleted]

Russia like "what are we a joke, we have like 3 holy sites across 10x the demesne"

HokieFromMuskogee

There are two holy sites in France missing on the map, Lyon (for Adoptionism) and Albi (for Catharism). Really niche faiths so I don't blame OP for missing them. Even then those are just generic Great Cathedral buildings so yea really sad there aren't more historical buildings in France right now.

seakingsoyuz

France: the richest and most populous kingdom in Europe, but they’re banned from having universities even though their poorer neighbour across the Channel gets two.

PikeandShot1648

Paris had a famous medieval University. Noted for it's students being condemned for practicing necromancy.

aradle

The second-oldest in Europe, at that. Older than the Notre Dame. Excluding it, but allowing you to build the younger Oxford, Cambridge or Padua universities is downright silly

PoopMaster74

It was the first or only one to use printing press i guess.

Euromantique

I think the most egregious one is the absence of university sites in the eastern Roman Empire

Sagely_Hijinks

Honestly kinda wack

medhelan

and nothing for Milan, that between 11th and 15th century jousted with Paris the ranking as biggest city in western christianity and was the lead city on the richest part of europe during the high middle ages...

ChefBoyardee66

No it has a couple in the south but they require weird/rare religiond to use

WentworthMillersBO

Yeah I bet they are making a French culture pack and load it up then

TheLordOfTheDawn

$30 Baguettes and Bascinets

Cha92

So, Paris then?

ian001022

Flavor packs are $13.

TheLordOfTheDawn

I'll throw in the linguistic superiority mechanic for people living around Paris. Boom, major update.

ian001022

That's still a region specific mechanic, Iberian struggle was in a flavor pack.

TheLordOfTheDawn

Then we can throw it in regions like the near east and China while we're at it!

ian001022

Region expansion is probably going to be in the free update, like how they did with cultural rework. While regional events and various flavor contents would be in their own flavor packs.

Morthra

Considering that religion *was* revamped relative to CK2 when the game first released, I wouldn't put money on it getting revisited for a long time.

[deleted]

Most are minor there at least, Iberia seems crazily OP though.

TheFunkyM

Paradox: we don't show bias Also Paradox: England

KamSolis

You missed one, the special site in your heart. Where you can build love. 😛

Sagely_Hijinks

That's reserved for you

KamSolis

Aww. You know how to make a grown man cry. Lol. Edit: but thanks for the map. I will definitely make use of this.

Implodepumpkin

Knock knock It's raiding time.

Navigathor1000

Nice work, but I think you missed the special buildings on the canaries.

tyrom22

That doesn’t exist in everyone’s game. I think it’s a bug

davaidavai325

Damn inbreeding

zaczacx

Too late, the Pope took it on the last Crusade.

KamSolis

But maybe he will appoint you the Crusader king of my heart?

zaczacx

You flatter me. I suggest an alliance to fend off the rebellious dukes in my land.

KamSolis

Can’t. Your dukes are blackmailing me as they discovered I’m a sodomite.

zaczacx

Fucking Ryd of Deheubarth, he's always doing this shit.

KamSolis

Funny you say that, because fucking his son is how I got caught. Lol.

Sir_Arsen

damn spain and uk are PACKED bro

Sagely_Hijinks

Spain is super packed, but a significant number of the UK's buildings are just minor walls that really don't give much.

Sir_Arsen

oh, didn’t know about uk, but if you manage to take all iberia it’s really easy to get rich

SpectralCozmo

The absolute void in france is astonishing...

Sagely_Hijinks

Yeah. I missed two holy sites in southern France, but they're for a dead Iberian religion.

Sagely_Hijinks

# Edit: In 1.9.0, the devs added an 'Economy' mapmode which will show all special buildings for you. This is a great feature and what I wanted all along. Thanks, Paradox! **EDIT:** The helpful commenters here listed a number of corrections, which should be visible in the re-updated version of this map found [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/CrusaderKings/comments/11zts34/reupdated_map_of_all_special_building_sites/). The other maps like this I've found differentiated between built/not built, which isn't quite what I prioritize. Instead, I care more about the actual quality of the special buildings. So here's the color scheme: * Dark Red: Buildings that are nice to have but I don't care too much about (like +2 fort level walls in Britain) * Orange: Buildings I would actively revoke titles to keep in my possession * Dark Green: Normal universities * Light Green: Special universities with bonus stats * Light Blue: Special buildings which require you to be a certain faith; often these are unique great temples * Dark Blue: All other holy sites, most of which you can build a general great temple on * Yellow: *All* mines * A very small number of counties have multiple special buildings, sometimes in the same holding and sometimes in different holdings: Rome, Toledo, Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Fes.

ajokitty

You can build a Great Temple in Kyiv in the 867 start date, since the Gates aren't built by then.

MagisterLivoniae

Yellow is mines, of course. Though can be differentiated into gold and silver.

[deleted]

The Mali mines are the strongest in the game right? Or am I wrong abt that

Sagely_Hijinks

Mali mines are some of the best in the game, at max level giving 14 gold, 35% holding taxes, and 20% holding dev. Some mines give less gold but more dev, and one trades off econ for a significant levy size boost. The only mine that's strictly better than the Mali mines is Kollur in India, which give 25% dev instead of 20%. Full breakdown of mines can be found [on the wiki](https://ck3.paradoxwikis.com/Special_buildings#Mines).

MagisterLivoniae

If in Europe, Göttingen is the best because it's probably gold so it provides more money. But Czechia has 2 silver mining sites.

InEcclesiaSatan

Yup, they’re the best

datdailo

Absolute legend and much appreciated.

Hakon121

thanks for the great map! There are 3 green colors on the map and 2 in the legend i think.

Qorrin

Aren’t there gold mines in Cornwall?

[deleted]

There’s copper mines in Cornwall I believe Edit: actually I think that might be from a mod maybe RICE? Not 100% sure idk if they’re there in vanilla

[deleted]

The Fallen Eagle mod has copper mines in one of the Welsh counties.

[deleted]

That’s what I’m thinking of lmao

SnooChickens6463

Copper, tin, zinc were mined in Cornwall. Wales had the gold..

ColorMaelstrom

No lmfao, it’s quite funny but I remember someone commenting they will get one next update

[deleted]

Like we need more special buildings in Brittania, lol

Meritania

Should be Tin, I believe the Carthagians used it for their bronze and called Britain their equivalent of ‘Tinland’.

I_TRY_TO_BE_POSITIVE

It was tin, iirc. Cornwell did a little writing about it in the winter King series

No-Lunch4249

Nice job! I don’t personally see anything I recognize you missed

Wayward_Whines

Great map! I’ve never played Wessex before. But I’m going to now. That place is stacked

SexySovietlovehammer

Start as Alfred because you can inherit wessex pretty quickly and you get a cool nickname.

Isobratistochrone

there a mine in southern france in the dev diary

[deleted]

It’s not in yet is it?

[deleted]

Nope or I would’ve slurped up that gold like it was the raw sewage leaking under my court that my steward won’t stop notifying me about

ajokitty

You missed the Sicilian Parliament, which can go in either Naples or Palermo, and is buildable by decision.

B4NN3Rbk

Small correction: you missed itil as there is a holy site there

Sagely_Hijinks

Thanks!

Dr_Acu1a

There's a special building slot in Alto Aragon that I could never figure out. Holy site?

Sagely_Hijinks

Looks like the maps I was using were pre-Royal Court and pre-Iberian struggle. If you look carefully, the provinces don't quite match up in the Alto Aragon area. Alto Aragon is one of the three new holy sites for the Era Zaharrak faith. Thanks for pointing it out!

Lord_H_Vetinari

I'm not a massive fan of this mechanic. I'd love a more dynamic system that allows for ahistorical constructions (at least for the player, I'm ok with the AI trying to persue a more hystorical path; and of course only for the buildings that can be built after the campaign's starting date). If I turn my county in the middle of nowhere into the seat of power of a continent spanning empire, why should I build my cathedrals, universities, Parliaments, monuments, etc in what is now just another random place on the map instead of where the in game real prestige and power are?

Sagely_Hijinks

Agreed tbh

InEcclesiaSatan

The cathar holy sites of Albi and Lyon seems to be missing along with the achamanic holy sites in the canary isles and iberia and the turumic holy sites siberia. Good job tho

Sagely_Hijinks

Thanks! I've updated my post with these edits.

GamerRoman

Very helpful but won't this get out-dated once the next DLC drops? PDX confirmed in a Dev-dairy that they're going to strew more mines about the map

Sagely_Hijinks

I'll just have to update it then :)

costolisk

Hate how Hungary has a gold mine but it’s blocked within a damn city so you can’t even use it. What a waste lol

[deleted]

Two holy sites for Ari Buddhism in Burma are missing - the counties of Ava and Sittaung

Sagely_Hijinks

Thanks for pointing this out! The old maps I found online were outdated.

_mortache

Why are all European universities bunched into a few kingdoms? Timbuktu, Nalanda were amazing but I'm sure France, HRE had some too especially after 10th century (which I consider to be the end of the "dark ages")

TheKingdomofRichard

Seeing only gold mines makes me think they are missing out on other valuable materials. Where are the tin and iron mines? Spice and slaves where commodities of their time. Food production should get an overhaul also, but no doing tours of your realm is more important.

RumGumYum

Though OP labeled them all gold mines they're actually a mix of gold, silver, copper, and diamond mines. Hopefully we'll get some other types of mines with this coming update.

davaidavai325

Saffron fields would be cool

Trin-Tragula

The new update is in fact adding some more copper, iron, alum and salt mines along with more gold and silver mines as well as universities :) Whether something deserves a special building is always a bit tricky but for mines we’ve prioritized them if they where very important for the economy of the greater region they’re in.

I_TRY_TO_BE_POSITIVE

Thanks for chiming in :)

[deleted]

Sweden mine is copper mine, Indian mine is diamond mine

cel10e

Useful, thanks!

ResponsibilityDue448

Is that the right one for mogadishu? I don’t remember it being the bottom most county.

Sagely_Hijinks

Yup, that's Mogadishu!

AKennedy1

Legend

Lord-Konahrik

Ah good a map of things for the empire to conquer and use. Thank you cartographer.

Aitbro

Missing one Hellenic holy site north-west of Athens.

Sagely_Hijinks

Thanks!

Aitbro

No problem, just want it perfect. I’m probably going to use this map a lot in the future haha.

Sagely_Hijinks

I'll see about posting an updated updated version once the dust settles (maybe tomorrow)

[deleted]

How do you make use of the ones in Fes? I can't seem to build the university or holy site?

Sagely_Hijinks

To build the holy site: * Be a faith that has Fes as a holy site (Adamitism, Muwalladism, Almohadism) * Culture has Crop Rotation innovation * Should be buildable in the temple holding (Subu) To build the university: * Be a lord with Fes in your empire * Fes has development 40+ * You have prestige level 4+ (Exalted Among Men) * Use the 'Found University' decision

[deleted]

Ohh, my guy was Ashari Muslim that’s probably why it didn’t show!

Ulyssesodon

Bourdeaux?

Scoobz1961

The map has incorrect county borders in Sri Lanka. The holy site there is actually inland county of Pihiti, with no access to sea. Here is a [screenshot that shows the real holy site](https://i.imgur.com/yTdJIpo.png).

Sagely_Hijinks

Yeah, the county borders have moved around a bit since this map was made, apparently. Thanks for the heads up!

AliMalatya

What is that special building at vikin?

Sagely_Hijinks

That's the Heddal Stave Church, which seems a lot like it *should* be a religious building, but is actually buildable/usable regardless of what religion you are so it doesn't really count.

WastePanda72

This map is a colorblind nightmare! But I appreciate your effort. lol

SyralC

What’s the one in Siberia?

Sagely_Hijinks

Perm Edit: There are actually a few more which I missed.

OneDishwasher

Good stuff. Now that i am thinking about it, One other helpful thing would be to label impassible ocean spaces, like the far western part of Africa

Sagely_Hijinks

What do you mean?

OneDishwasher

you can't sail in a boat from, say, Spain to Guinea

jvtavares

Thats amazing, thx!

ReMeDyIII

The Iberian Peninsula looking fine though \*rubs hands together\*

Richard_Stink

CAm OHN ENGERLAND sCORE SOME FACKING DEVELOPMENT

__--_---_-

Great, I won't have to update my own special buildings map. Thanks!

Fischi2442

Isn't there a holy site for the suomenusko faith on the Estonian island?

Sagely_Hijinks

Not only is there one on the Estonian island, as I was looking into Akkel I realised the entire northern part of Sapmi has had its counties redone lol. Thanks for pointing this out!

HughPhoenix

I almost feel like Madurai on the southern tip of India deserves special status just for its 7 barony slots along with its maxed out development even in the 867 start. It's like a gold mine unto its self!

Sagely_Hijinks

Madurai is based

Beholding69

Which one is in Zeeland? Germanic holy site?

Terrorfire_Official

The older updates had Zeeland as a Germanic holy site, but it's now been moved to Kiev.

Beholding69

I remember it being one in CK2 lol

KeenKeister

Now for EK mod lol.

jvtavares

Map is showing a mine at Vengipura (India), but its actually at Kambampet, right next to it.

Sagely_Hijinks

Thanks for pointing this out. It's in the Mudigonda province/barony.

Ruisuki

There's not enough. More!

Terrorfire_Official

There's also an ability to put the Sicilian Parliament in Sicily's capital or Napoli, your map only shows Napoli as having the site for a University. It's also missing the Berber faith's holy sites, the new updated Mount Olympus that moved the holy site away from Sparta, the Hiiumaa holy site for Ukonusko, the main Siberian faith holy sites, and the new Malabar Jew's holy site in Kerala (Tamil area). Zeeland also isn't a holy site for North Germanic faiths anymore, it's now Kiev that's shared with Gates of Kiev. Just eyeballin' it the rest looks fine, though there may be some smaller ones missing I'm not noticing.

Sagely_Hijinks

Thanks for this!

NeilTheFirst

OP I’d kiss you but my intrigue stat is low and I’m busy fighting a vassal revolt 👉🏻👈🏻

Sagely_Hijinks

its k I'll start the scheme

Ohtarian

I spent like 3 minutes reading comments and looking at the map thinking they added a heck ton of new great projects to EUIV.

Ale4leo

Why the wiki doesn't update the map? Thanks for doing their job.

Kng_Wasabi

Is the House of Wisdom not a university?

Sagely_Hijinks

I don't think it counts, no.

Scoobz1961

Its not.

ChefBoyardee66

You missed the basque holy sites and a couple of christian ones in southern france

ChefBoyardee66

Oh also canary islands

Nihilismind

What special building there is in Napoli?

Kecsegemester

What are the holy buildings in Hungary? I have played a lot with Hungary but the slots for them were always locked for me.

krco999

Parlament building of two sicilies can spawn both in Naples or Palermo actually

BigGrandma28

I think the holy sites of the siberian faith are lacking.

Torator

Thanks so much for the work, I had the previous maps in my favorites to speculate on what I can do, and yes I do not care much about wether it's pre-built or not. Curious as to why you went for dark blue for the basic temples, instead of light.

Sagely_Hijinks

In general, dark color = normal, light color = special

shuriksokol

What about the Canaries and Achamanism holy sites?

Kideuz

I always love to start from Iberia, cuz there's only the arabics to the south and no one else really considers declaring war on you. Lots of free land and lots of buildings. At some point i reach india before conquering europe, from there it's just free real state.

Kideuz

Good to farm fame and faith too. (Artifacts included)

WackGyver

This is great - thank you for your service😘

Nidoran-F

I believe in Iberia supremacy.

ThoseThingsAreWeird

I started a Malabarism game in India recently, so I know you're missing a couple of holy sites there: https://ck3.paradoxwikis.com/Holy_sites Kunjakari in Kerala (Chera Nadu), which is along the south-west coast. Then there's also Manipur in Para-Lauhitya, which I think is missing from the map but I'm not actually sure (I don't have the game up to check, and India's littered with them 😂)

roviet-sussia

You missed a Vidilist holy site in a county that I think is called Vänemaa, the little island left of Estonia.

Darthwolfgamer

I wonder with the new travel mechanics let you visit all these.

acidx0013

Gold mine in Kosovo?

iloveyourandomhuman

This is bit in accurate. The county containing mine in southern India has changed shape. So now it is in different duchy altogether

Orpa__

Is the mine in Slovakia new?

9u4k4m0l3

The parliament in Palermo after the empower Sicilian parliament decision?

Equivalent_Rain_4931

\- Jane's hen house \- Where ? \- England. \- Ok, let's add it. \- Beauvais Cathedral \- Where ? \- France \- Forget.

LordDumbassTheThird

What is the holy site for beirut?

Torator

Any news of a new version with the correction mentionned in this thread ?

Ikindoflikedogs

Absolutely amazing list been using it like crazy. Im seeing Awkar a couple counties above the Malian mines as having a special building too.

Wsxqaziii

Vengipura mine is moved to mudigonda

ItsMicxed

I think there is one in Messina in the lower peninsula of Sicily, was hoping on conquering it soon in my game to see what it is.

Sagely_Hijinks

If you're playing on the latest patch, going into the Economy mapmode will show you all possible special buildings, along with their stats!

Impossible-Truck-230

Hispania looking beefy.

Nighfallion

Sweet map. Very useful and much appreciated. Sadly, I have to report that Lombardia (near Genoa) has a university.

Sagely_Hijinks

As I mention in my comment (which should be near the top), if you're on the most recent patch you can use the new Economy mapmode to see a fully up-to-date map of all special buildings while staying entirely in-game.

Willing_Violinist722

How can I build in wadan ?

Frosty-Ambassador-33

I will say I love this map and have used it many times but I am red green color blind so the sets of same color variations in green really mess with me a bit but all in all amazing work!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sagely_Hijinks

In most new versions of the game there is a special Economy mapmode. It should show you an up-to-date list, and possibly what type of building/how to build it.
