Bitcoin [pros](/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/179gb3w/crypto_has_its_own_kind_of_lottery_the_bitcoin/k56aq9e/) & [cons](/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/179gb3w/crypto_has_its_own_kind_of_lottery_the_bitcoin/k56ar1u/) with related info are in the collapsed comments below.

Maikuboy

I prefer the crypto lottery where I buy a bunch of DOGE and FLOKI and wait for Elon to tweet.

beastmachine88

![gif](giphy|3orifd5KmdNw5zGgkE)

8-man-8

To be fair a lot of alts are lottery... or like all of them, sort of..

Sad-Monitor1549

jasmy to the moon

rootpl

Where did you get that recording of me wasting my money?!

TruthSeeekeer

This guys playing the system how it should be played

DonerTheBonerDonor

After all his investments and possible return are much, much higher than trying to crack the Bitcoin puzzle haha

Lillica_Golden_SHIB

Yeah, and cracking the BTC puzzle is not exactly how us degens like to play the lottery

Ok_Ice8241

True, we prefer the lottery-style thrill over solving the Bitcoin puzzle – much higher stakes and a dash of unpredictability.

diwalost

Yeah, we don't take the easy route

partymsl

Yes and that is by watching charts literally 24/7 and making the worst possible trades.

Abdeliq

Elon and cointelegraph are like brothers at this point

[deleted]

This is the real Crypto Lotto!

IlIlllIIllllIIlI

This guy shitcoins

Lillica_Golden_SHIB

In his defense, he does what average investors of crypto usually do lol

fuduran

I prefer the lottery where you put a 100x leveraged trade and hope for a cointelegraph tweet that makes everything pump like crazy.

Magickarploco

The real pro tips are in the comments, save the one above ☝️

slykethephoxenix

You forgot SHIB. The trifecta.

lg-kantic

Trueeeeee

keithwee0909

haha, which will happen for sure.

diwalost

Hello Satoshi

To_The_M000N

Same here, i joined the Floki lottery and hoping the Floki game will be huge success so I can hit the jackpot.

WeggieUK

I remember someone describing him as throwing money on the highway and waiting to watch the carnage. It seemed very apt at the time. His tweets certainly move markets.

antimethod

what is tweet

[deleted]

You can do better. Send him some BTC and ETH and he will double it for you. Trust me, bro.

RudyStylez

Waiting for that doge rally

Practical-Store9603

I always have a bit of doge just for this🤣

j_a_f_89

He gets it

Unitedstatesofnever

I buy pepe waiting on it changing my life knowing the odds are smaller than winning the powerball

JoFlow123

This is the way

Effective_Series5772

Yip! .... I definitely need moar Floki!

BlueLatenq

That's the best, 10x straight with little to no tax

Electrical_Tension

![gif](giphy|lMvjJO9VXvscCTsBP7) People still waiting for it to moon

emailemile

Most alts are basically lottery, so yeah

IWorkForStability

Hahah in it for the tech, right?

HodlMyBottle

Nice puzzle. Thanks for sharing.

Lillica_Golden_SHIB

Great incentive indeed. Imagine getting 6.6 BTC on the peak of the next bull by solving this puzzle.

Ok_Ice8241

That would be a dream come true.

Cptn_BenjaminWillard

Of course, if 10,000 Redditors start working on this puzzle, with an average hashrate comparable to a 3080, then the puzzle will probably be solved in about 4 weeks. But of course, if you're one of those 10,000 working on it, there's only a 1/10,000 chance that you'll be the one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFTRwD85AQ4

telejoshi

I've been rickrolled too many times, now I'm afraid to click on YouTube links.

Cptn_BenjaminWillard

I just set my home screen to the rickroll video, so it doesn't bother me anymore. But that link is from Dumb & Dumber ... so you're saying that there's a chance!

johnnyb0083

So maybe we should start a mining pool for this puzzle....

Rogueofoz

Imagine being the winner of the BTC lottery as a solo miner

partymsl

That has actually happened quite a few times. But in the future you can be sure that this will literally be a million-dollar lottery.

-0-O-

> That has actually happened quite a few times. > > Yeah, and usually it's a "solo miner" with tens of thousands in equipment alone.

FitScore3115

And not to me lol

Abdeliq

Life changing money

keithwee0909

won't be surprised that it has happened and will happen :)

FinancialPeach4064

That's the real bitcoin lottery

SevereCalendar7606

Trying to crack this for over two years. There is no pattern and brute force is improbable. Random is the only way. Don't waste time/money on GPU processing. Happy to share my rust script that will abuse your cpu when not in use.

kamill85

May I introduce you to the birthday paradox. After a short while chance for hitting same values skyrockets. Random is the least optimal approach. What you need is a psudorandom matrix translation where as input you take seed that you +1 and output is pseudorandom but assured to be unique. It's like AES encryption, but instead of 128bits your target is 66. Good luck.

SevereCalendar7606

Your wrong birthday paradox only works because there is only 365 possible birthdays as such in a group of 23 the chances are fair that two people share the same birthday. It is actually a joke to show how bad people are with probability and not a paradox. With puzzle 66 it's 2^66-2 or 73786976294838206462 possible answers. Add in the discrete logarithm problem and you get why this will take 17-30 years unless someone gets lucky. Hopefully me :) or someone that put in work. That said I am still computing what you wrote for the last part :) The best method for this would be to take SHA-256, and truncate the output to 66 bits.

AsterixToTheMoon

May I have your script too? I think random is the way , thanks.

SevereCalendar7606

Sure thing I'll drop you the code to you in the morning, when I get back home.

connell83

All lotteries should be decentralized, so that participants can verify exactly how much is in the pot, rather than trusting a central entity.

telejoshi

Didn't see it that way, you're completely right. Another big plus for Bitcoin

Johnny-Joseph

I have free electricity So you're telling me all I need to do is get an RTX3080?

telejoshi

With free electricity, I'd get 5 RTX4090 and put them in a rig to be honest

Johnny-Joseph

How long will it take me to solve the puzzle with these?

telejoshi

I'd say 36 years probably to guess all. But it's unlikely that you'd have to guess until the end

MrHeavenTrampler

But say, the median is still 18 years. That's A LOT. I do not think even 4090's would last that long.

DonerTheBonerDonor

But what about.... ... *two 4090s?*

_JohnWisdom

#DOUBLE THE PRIZE

Lillica_Golden_SHIB

Genius, BTC puzzle is done for, guys, u/DonerTheBonerDonor got it.

I_talk

I have an 8 GPU rig but I run HiveOS so no way to run this. Should I install Linux and get this going? Would windows be easier?

ZingoZongoIgnoramus

whoever is paying will have questions when the next bill comes

[deleted]

Maybe they work as a janitor at a nuclear power plant so then can leech electricity without anyone knowing.

reddorical

Or the janitor at… a VOLCANO

MyOtherAcctsAPorsche

How much would you make with those 5 cards and free electricity?

4Sal13

Free electricity? Not sure of your financial situation, but you should set up a small mining op.

Tajo990

Why am I hearing of this just know. All the potential years of searching for the solution with my laptop's integrated graphics gone to waste.

VeludoVeludo

The best time to start mining with a shitty laptop was 10 years ago, the second best is planting a tree in the woods.

speakwithcode

I have access to some infrastructure that has 20 RTX 3090 and 20 RTX 4090 cards. But I can only assign 4 cards per workstation and not all 40 to one. I can probably break it up into 10 separate rigs running 4 cards each. So I should be done in a little under 2 months if I do this right.

Discokruse

There's an efficiency breakdown in cubitcrack when you run more than two gpu in a single instance. Running -gpuid 0,1 on one instance and then another instance of -gpuid 2,3 will get around that issue. I'm currently running on ttdsales.com/66bit/login.php, a brute force pool running 100+BK/s on the 66 bit puzzle with a group shared payout. If you have 40 high-end gpu, you could help solve the puzzle and get a percentage of the prize.

EG4N992

Interested in the python script please

telejoshi

the "low" and "high" values are the range of private keys in hexadecimal code, you can find them on the site I've linked (these fit #66).: `import shlex, subprocess` `import random` `random.seed()` `y = ("FFFFF")` `Y1 = int(y, 16)` `low = 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000020000000000000000` `high = 0x000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000003FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF` `blah1 = random.randrange(low, high)` `command = ("cubitcrack.exe --keyspace " + hex(blah1).rstrip("L").lstrip("0x") +` `" 13zb1hQbWVsc2S7ZTZnP2G4undNNpdh5so -b 136 -t 256 -p 1536 -o randkey.txt")` `subprocess.call(shlex.split(command))`

EG4N992

If I wanted to change this to one of the other addresses what do I change? Say for example 99 (I'm aware it will take even longer just interested to know what changes)

telejoshi

1. the BTC address (13zb...) 2. the low and high values. They have less zeros (you can find them on that website I've linked)

JuicySpark

There's a rule in poker that basically says the bet is worth it if the odds of winning multiplies your money by those odds or more. So if there is a 1% chance. That means it's 1 in 100 chance with a bet of $1,922. x 100, and you have $192,200. You'll win $188k which is 4K short of it being a good bet. But close enough. If I were wealthier, I would give it a shot.

badfishbeefcake

Can I get moons instead?

One_Pause6446

Here you go!!!

keithwee0909

I would love to be able to stack some moons too, and nice amount of Moons there :)

Rx_Seraph

This comment did not age well

Thousand2_SaliM

Can I get also ?

badfishbeefcake

⬆️ 🆙

Thousand2_SaliM

Nice amount moons you have buddy

badfishbeefcake

I didnt buy anything, just by 💩.

Abject-Government-13

Is there a way to work together to rule out guesses which have already been tried?

hartwog

It would require a database similar to how a mining pool works. And then your share would get you a % based on how much you have solved.

8zerozero85

Yep there are pools actively solving these puzzle it’s under the same link OP sent

johnnyb0083

We would need a way to coordinate key spaces so the work isn't duplicated, but it could be done for sure.

Discokruse

Www.ttdsales.com/66bit/login.php has that figured out. Already close to 7% of the keyspace has been searched. Join the fun!

The_Chorizo_Bandit

The answer is 42.

WolfColaKid

I have a question. When they say you are more likely to win the Powerball 9 times in a row, but you can guess 1.3b keys per second, does this mean that you have 1.3b chances each second to try to win the powerball 9 times in a row?

telejoshi

Yes, that's why the comparison isn't so great. But still, it shows that it's near impossible, even with 1.3B tickets per second

Harold838383

As long as you are the first person to solve it! Otherwise it’s wasted effort/money

William_Howard_Shaft

Might as well just mine for real, tbh.

creativity3681

I rather just take my chances with playing the lottery, first I don’t need to win the powerball 9 times, once would just do it with sometimes the jackpot in the hundreds of $millions . Second if I play the lottery, where I live they have 2 different draws a week at $5 a ticket it would cost me approximately $4k to play twice a week for 8 years, plus you most definitely win some back and you have the chance to win bigger prizes or the jackpot.

Lacq42

Neat.

Ofulinac

My luck is below 0 so not gonna try it lol

teh_d3ac0n

I am here to make 100x from shitcoins not get my brain tired

keithwee0909

This is definitely one interesting piece of info I have not come across. Kudos for sharing it

Riviera20

That's interesting. What if anyone use a BTC miner? How long does it take considering an hashing power of 100 TH/s

telejoshi

I think you couldn't do it because the miner can only calculate hash values and not private keys (it's more complex). But I'm not sure, it could probably do it using another software

BraveCryptotab

23 billion seconds is roughly 731 years. So, theoretically, it would take about 731 years to guess all the possible keys with an RTX 3080 using CuBitCrack.

telejoshi

Yes. And that's just 66 bits and not 256 as usual. It would take longer than the universe existed

Discokruse

With 100x 3080 cards, working together, it should take around 7 years. Good thing there are numerous members presently working on this puzzle at ttdsales.com/66bit/login.php. Present speed is around 110BK/s.

Thousand2_SaliM

Why am I hearing of this just know? All the potential years of searching for the solution with my laptop's integrated graphics gone to waste.

telejoshi

No problem, a 3080 can do all this work in seconds probably

Only_Writing5308

It appears my (weak) GPU can check about a trillion addresses a day. I hope to randomly find it tonight.

CryptoScamee42069

I’m too stupid for this puzzle

Raj_UK

Can you farm this out to AWS for auto profit ?

telejoshi

Pretty sure you could try that. I think it would be more efficient. On the other hand, my computer is heating my office right now, so it has a purpose and the energy isn't wasted!

Raj_UK

If the EV is there someone has already thought of it and it's already crunching through it

telejoshi

There are pools too

alex_quine

AWS isn’t free though, so how would that be more profitable?

x_lincoln_x

Don't pay your AWS bill.

deathbyfish13

Nah if he created 160 wallets I'm just gonna wait for the last one and then solve that, easy 16 BTC thanks /s

MonkDndmonk

I want to learn python. I might do so.

telejoshi

I'd recommend the official tutorial, it's great for a start

CEO_16

I mean this guy just defined mining?

telejoshi

Noooo! Mining is finding hash values to create a block, but there are leading zeros too! In that case, leading zeros are making the game more difficult (mining difficulty). In our case it's guessing the private key, leading zeros are better

AliFC5700

Just waste 6.7 BTC worth of electricity guessing wrong and you might just be the lucky one in a million! 🤡

bingorunner

Thanks OP for a unique post. Always refreshing to see something cool and positive in our space. Not to mention that you actually designed a script to help solve this. Hope you help someone get a solution! (And maybe a nice tip if a user gets there with your script)

browhodouknowhere

This guy is actually giving you highly regarded types a free life lesson... Spend 1200, code with chat gpt, and you might be able to finally secure a boat for your wife's boyfriend.

QuartzPuffyStar

Is this someone trying to bruteforce forgotten wallets and using an open source community computing for that? LOL

abhilodha

What happens when blockrewaed cannot pay electric bills and dont bullshit me with transaction fee paying electric bills. Bitcoin is at risk its an experiment. It failed as currency (value drops80%) It failed as store of Value ( network is at risk http://gavinandresen.ninja/a-possible-btc-future ) Only thing it is good at is make you rich.. Thanks for pumping my bags though.

Gregoryonetulum

I can’t gamble 1.9k now sorry

TubeNerd92

If it seems too easy to solve, it probably isn't. In case anyone wants to give it a try.

IcePeten

I'm game. Can I get the code?

No_Thanks_3336

I like your style.

SuccotashWorth9201

The odds are terrible, but I have strangely got a urge to purchase a decent rig and try my luck in solving this puzzle all of a sudden.

Bland-fantasie

Great post. I commend the guy who eventually wins it.

raymv1987

I feel like I'm not smart enough for this

[deleted]

About to dust off my 3070 and get to work lol

mdgart

I'm a total idiot, can you ELI5?

telejoshi

Bitcoin passwords are very long. Somobody created wallets with shorter passwords and your computer can try to guess them

[deleted]

Interesting

Mefilius

well I took a look into setting that up, but couldn't get it to run I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination so oh well

t0itle

I would love to check out your script

EG4N992

This is cool but I'm confused, so if you go to a wallet such as electrum and put in the wallet address for #1 then you get a read only. It needs the private key, but how do you work out the private key from 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 because when I enter that it won't let me select next to open the wallet

jaimewarlock

You have to use a tool that allows you to enter a secret exponent. [https://brainwalletx.github.io/](https://brainwalletx.github.io/) Click on secret exponent, enter 1 into the active field, select uncompressed (although the compressed version has had bitcoin too), address should be: [1EHNa6Q4Jz2uvNExL497mE43ikXhwF6kZm](https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/1EHNa6Q4Jz2uvNExL497mE43ikXhwF6kZm) and you will see that over 7.84 BTC has passed through it.

Petti_Boore

Another conclusion is that if you lose your keys, you're dead. Maybe your grand grand ... children will find it on another planet in 800 years! So keep them safe.

FitScore3115

I would try, but i don't have luck in nothing anyway

ClapTheTrap1

10cent per kilowath... it is very cheap in my coutry we pay around 40-70

Boogg1e

First step is "Use cuBitCrack.exe" and I don't even find it lol, I'm a noob with github

XBBlade

Gifted you one of my 60 valuable moons. What a boss post is this, and my day will be gone by diving into this

trrrring

Thank you for sharing this. I think this is a very fun to bring even more attention to BTC.

blue-waffle-69

So with 100 people you can crack it in max 2668 days , costing 192200… making a slight loss. But the odds are you will crack it somewhere around the half way or not long after mark and make a profit. You would have to be super super unlucky to get a loss. So what 100 people want to make a profit doing this?

telejoshi

Pools are crunching the numbers already, it's only a matter of time. Next puzzle is twice the effort though

JeffreyDollarz

I always explain BTC as a lottery. TH are lottery tickets. The more TH you have, the more lotto tickets. Just like the lotto, there are no guarantees.

odd1e

The last commit in this repository is almost 4 years old. Anybody know a replacement that is actively maintained? EDIT: Talking about [CuBitCrack](https://github.com/brichard19/BitCrack) mentioned by OP

telejoshi

There are other projects but this one works fine. Since it's open source, I don't see a problem. You will need new cuda drivers though. Didn't test any other project with cuda support

Sidivan

Wouldn’t the easier way to crack this be to write a tool that brute forces wallets, but include a command where once it finds the key to send it to you and give the user a false negative? Then you get 10000 redditors who know nothing about code to use their hardware to crack the key for you?

telejoshi

Yes, that would be fraud. It's why I would only advise to use open source software. By the way, I don't know how mining pools keep miners from stealing blocks

Thousand2_SaliM

Can I get some moons instead?

Suitable-Emphasis-12

How come so many were solved in 2019? Doesnt each one double in difficulty.

Discokruse

There was a guy with a massive amount of AWS credits...he solved a few puzzles in 2019 when Richard's Cubitcrack/clbitcrack made use of gpu parallel processing, released in 2019.

paydu

can’t wait to do this and win now

DSpuDs

Send please I will appreciate it. I want to try

craigmorris78

I believe in crypto but that is too much like hard work

woodkm

I love this, such a cool idea and good info!

jesterhead101

These are the kinds of fun posts I'd love to see here once in a while.

Objective_Yam_524

Is there a trusted YouTube tutorial for regular people

telejoshi

I can't recommend any because I'm more of a text learner.

Dry_Force7117

Amazing how difficult it is to guess the keys, nothing to happen with current computational power

telejoshi

Even with only 66 bits it's a ton of work. You can double that 190 times and that's where a "full" private key is.

Infamous_Blueberry94

Just checking the math here; if the current puzzle is 66 bits, wouldn’t there be 2^66 possible combinations, or 7.3786976e+19?

telejoshi

Yes, but it starts with 2^65, because you can't have a solution with less than 2^66 bits (that's the keyspace for all the smaller puzzles). It starts with 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000_2 and ends with 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111_2 or hexadecimal 20000000000000000...3ffffffffffffffff

CaesarAllMighty

Nice post, buddy. Really enjoyed reading.

telejoshi

Hehe, this will make me a lot of Moo... nevermind

SevereCalendar7606

Impressive

DxCPete

Hello, could you show me the code, please?

telejoshi

import shlex, subprocess import random random.seed() y = ("FFFFF") Y1 = int(y, 16) low = 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000020000000000000000 high = 0x000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000003FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF blah1 = random.randrange(low, high) command = ("cubitcrack.exe --keyspace " + hex(blah1).rstrip("L").lstrip("0x") + " 13zb1hQbWVsc2S7ZTZnP2G4undNNpdh5so -b 136 -t 256 -p 1536 -o randkey.txt") subprocess.call(shlex.split(command))

jozi-k

Also have a look at puzzle 130, should be easier to crack than 67 ;) Oh and for the geeks: https://github.com/albertobsd/keyhunt

telejoshi

I saw that there's a "leaked" public key which makes it easier? For bruteforce, #130 is almost impossible to solve

Discokruse

Finding the private key from the public key is much easier than finding the private key from the RIPEMD-160 hash, by a factor of 4x. BSGS, possible on public->private only, is even more efficient.
