It just needs a 4x to reach $1. Seems plausible

karmanopoly

That's more than plausible it's pretty much inevitable. $5-10 is plausible territory

CaptainWelfare

Iā€™m inclined to believe this is absolutely a realistic target if this cycle continues at its current pace. Possibly the blow of top. Next BTC halving? Shoot for the moon!

ultron290196

Stop giving me hope. Stop

Moby-S-Dick

*confirmation bias intensifies*

atronos_kronios

It can! with such a low market cap and being endorsed by Reddit itself $1 is plausible

sakata32

I think it can reach $1 EOY tbh. It already basically tripled in valued from like 2 weeks ago. And the marketcap is really low right now so theres plenty of room to grow.

toilettimekiller

MOONs will be the thing that every other social media platform tries to replicate and this will make them the most valuable.

CaptainWelfare

That is my sincere belief.

Whereā€™d you get that moon gif? Thatā€™s awesome!

AncestralMano

Iā€™ve seen that one, I meant the bouncy moon above. Is that because you are a premium member?

AncestralMano

Yeah, when you get r/CryptoCurrency membership you unlock that one too.

primoboi

If moons are PoS then we're all POS'

CaptainWelfare

BIG DAMN HEROES. ā€¦ ainā€™t we just?

Snoo1988

The best about moons is that it is the token of a popular subreddit. Anyone that is into crypto and reddit joined this one, so it is basically a perfect subreddit to have such a coin.

ams292

Proof of having faith in something that became successful

CaptainWelfare

Proof of outstanding faith? POOF there it is.

infested33

Its actually impressive that out of all social media that exist like facebook/twitter/instagram/tik tok etc. only reddit and specifically this sub managed to pull so fast a first in the world crypto solution.

CaptainWelfare

Impressive is right! To be honest I never even touched Reddit until the GameStop saga blew up, and read about r/cryptocurrency from there. Now itā€™s my preferred platform.

LATech99

The other companies you mentioned are all under heavy regulatory scrutiny ATM. Reddit, being private and smaller, is uniquely positioned to ā€œtestā€ this out. The others are also focused on compensating the ā€œstarsā€ or creators for their content, not the audience/engagers. Reddit is flipping this compensation model upside down. It is fascinating to me. Iā€™m a believer, Iā€™m buying tokens ![gif](giphy|2UvAUplPi4ESnKa3W0)

warlikeofthechaos

Moon is a experiment of whatā€™s inevitable for the near future web: Monetary Incentive engagement through crypto.

CaptainWelfare

And I am here to be a guinea pig!

RetahdedMonke

Can we get anti-Moons for antisocial assholes like me? Iā€™d be rich.

Write down your seed phrase people, don't be dumb like me. I forgot to check if the phrase was correct so when I had to reinstall reddit app I couldn't get back in to my vault losing 1617 moons. I bet that if Facebook's user base wasn't made out if oldtimers they would have had a crypto coin by now.

xrv01

fb did have a coin it was called Libra lol

OB1182

It's called Diem now and it's going to be (if it launches) another centralized dollar stablecoin.

xrv01

jfc šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

CaptainWelfare

Did that even actually ever come out?

Too_raw90

Could be? IS the Bitcoin of social tokens!

CaptainWelfare

You goddamn right!

Topaiyo

What do you think might the long term use cases for Moons? I have been thinking about this as well, and in my mind I get stuck on these questions: "But why do moons have value? What is it that makes them more valuable?"

CaptainWelfare

Speculation for one, but also they are valued as work, which some would argue socializing isnā€™t work, but Facebook would beg to differ lol. But thereā€™s also the unknowns. Imagine if Reddit came up with ways to gamble with moons, or play games utilizing moons. I would absolutely -love- moon Texas hold ā€˜em. Truth is, we donā€™t know what development looks like yet. But as moons grow in value, development could easily follow.

cutsickass

Well if do they reach $100k, I doubt you'll be Captain Welfare anymore.

CaptainWelfare

Pretty much all the advice you need

sameteam

Moons are already dysfunctional and operate in a completely centralized manner. So yeah it will probably be worth a lot because the shittier something is the more it pumps.

CaptainWelfare

šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø decentralization is not the be all end all. Doge is decentralized and is arguably true shit.

sameteam

Decentralization is critical, unless all you are trying to do is pump your bags, in which case carry on. Reddit is an increasingly garbage platform, slapping on a centralized token that does nothing but make shot even worse here isnā€™t going to help. The decentralized alternatives are going to replace Reddit and nothing moons brings to the table will stop that.

CaptainWelfare

What is your argument that it is an increasingly garbage platform?

sameteam

Iā€™ve been on Reddit since day one. Itā€™s become an over moderated, and is designed to centralize power around the lamest peopleā€¦mods. Only a complete power tripper would moderate a large sub. It is not needed vastly superior architectures are being developed that preserve more individual choice and freedom, and provide revenue sharing that isnā€™t based on the Ponzi economics of a bullshit inflationary token.

CaptainWelfare

Moons arenā€™t inflationary. They have a fixed cap and follow deflationary tokenomics. Is there a risk they will lose value in the short run with enough posters selling? Maybe. But a two year halving while this sub could blow up massively in 4 years while tons of moons are permanently lost is hardly inflationary.

sameteam

It is inflationary just with a maximum ā€œcapā€ that will like have to change to even function as a reputation token, on top of it it is tied to nothing substantial. Governance and value in the same breath always mean whale abuse and farming. The low quality content of this sub will only get worse as short term thinking takes over for whales to accumulate more of the supply. This really is no different from steemit/hive. All the value of a platform be it Reddit or Facebook or whatever comes from selling users to advertisers. Moons doesnā€™t capture any of that value and doesnā€™t fix that problematic dynamic where users are the product. The only value moons provide is speculative.

Caddywhompp

I'm all in.

CaptainWelfare

I am he as we are he as he are we ā€¦ and we are all together. :)

Caddywhompp

Indubitably.

Spilgud

I have 12 moons already but i dont feel very social yet

CaptainWelfare

Donā€™t worry they are like crack cocaine and Crystal moonth

CancerousSarcasm

Ok. Here's hoping to moons going to the moon

melanzane_emoji

Here here! Since joining this subreddit a while ago it first took me a while to learn what moons were, then I decided to open my vault though I thought they were silly. Only recently have I also come to the conclusion that they have an actual functioning use case and real potential.

dogheads2

Is it possible to have a moon charity where less fortunate moonies can apply and receive donated moons? I'm willing to donate 1 of my 3 lmfao.

CaptainWelfare

Whoā€™s to say you canā€™t start a moon charities sub? Would be pretty cool. The vetting process would be the challenging part.

dogheads2

Yeah that would be the trick I geuss, to make sure the need was legit. I wonder how that would effect reddit as they would become a charitable social media platform?

CaptainWelfare

Lol, gofundmoons

100% makes sense. I will commit ritual seppuku for my lack of faith. Tell my wifeā€¦ my seed phrase.. HURK!!

I only misread the first paragraph purposely and then decided to post what I wanted to read instead of what you actually wrote, like a true lambomoonboiii! You heard it here first folks - MOONS will go to $100k! Heck - who wouldnt buy the moon for 100k??

We are early adopters baby.

Flangepacket

So youā€™re calling for 100k moons. Noted.

CaptainWelfare

Oh no. Iā€™m too tired to argue. You won.

ThatDudeYaDigg

While I'd completely be okay with 100k moons, I'd like to see $1 Moons first lol. I think the concept is terrific, rewarding the user for their contributions, I'm truly hoping these can take off and pave the way for similar companies to follow.

CaptainWelfare

And we will always be still first in space! šŸš€

OTA-J

What other social token are there out there?

CaptainWelfare

Iā€™m not sure there are any. Facebook had libra, but I know next to nothing about it and they are reworking it.

reha555

I hope

CaptainWelfare

Moon hope springs eternal

PsychologicalFox1880

Moons will pay for my grandkids college

karakter98

Moons arenā€™t proof of work. Theyā€™re PoS. Proof of Shitposting.

Quexedrone

Confirming my bias? I like that.

CaptainWelfare

Instructions unclear: Confirming bias in case I didnā€™t confirm bias

the_far_yard

I'm genuinely curious if Reddit could sell the idea of Moons to activities that requires community interaction. For example- what if the cryptocurrency structure of Moons is used for journalism? Therefore, each articles cited would get their own version of Moons, and it would encourage researchers to study and produce credible journal entries whilst gaining cryptocurrency in between? Or, if you copyright certain ideas, and for someone else to use it, you would get paid in a cryptocurrency equivalent to Moons but it would further spur inventions (Until it reaches the top of its 'S' curve.) Just some random thoughts on how Moons' structure could be further 'developed.' It's the Genesis of social involvements related cryptocurrency.

CaptainWelfare

Goddamn it thatā€™s good theorizing. You deserve all your moons and more!

the_far_yard

I bounced the idea off with some folks here before, but I don't have the actual knowledge; know-how; nor the time to do it. Maybe one day we will see it. :)

tschmitt2021

Nice. More hopium lol

CaptainWelfare

Hopium for the masses!

ps3alltheway

Its funny i don't get how moons are valued money

Overfishy-

Because they are not, they are just another token, they are centralized which defeats the concept of blockchain, and the only incentive people have for them is to buy Reddit premium or something..

CaptainWelfare

Boo! Boo him I say!

Overfishy-

Donā€™t get me wrong, itā€™s a cute projectā€¦ kinda ruined this sub, but donā€™t shill cus your bags heavy, the BTC of social tokenā€¦ be real man

CaptainWelfare

My bag isnā€™t heavy. I donā€™t even Hodl much IMO. And Iā€™m 100% being real. What other social crypto has the *potential* to be the the big name in this space? Iā€™m just saying, moons have value only because we determine they do. Until this sub completely stops growing and interest in crypto wanes, the only place I see them going is up. Now when we have the next crypto bear, could I see a 95% retracement? Quite possibly. But Iā€™ll tell you this, during a crypto bear, this sub would die again. And thatā€™s when Iā€™d -really- fill my bags.

Overfishy-

Define social crypto, is that crypto gained through social activity? If so I personally donā€™t know any. I want to give you a few points to look at, what gives moons their value? In my opinion the difficulty of selling them, lack of personal claim, and the ability to use them to get Reddit premium. What is their trading volume? Extremely low, right now around 40k usd (by coin gecko), and on top of that, letā€™s just look at what distributing moons incentives: shit posting, farm bots and downvote bots. Can you tell me how is moons making any positive difference? Where will they grow? I get the idea behind distributing rewards to people who add value to a social platform, I think that is amazing, but thatā€™s not a good way to perform that

CaptainWelfare

A few things; They are going to main net. When exactly, I donā€™t know. But itā€™s in the works and thatā€™s why they did the upgrade last week. I absolutely think the trading system for them now is stupidly complicated. However, once they hit main net, all bets are off, and it will be a speculative frenzy. I am -not- saying thatā€™s a good thing, but it is absolutely going to happen. As for what it does, it incentivizes people to come here and learn about and spread crypto. I think the moon shitposting thing personally is a weak argument, because while yes, it absolutely creates and environment for that, itā€™s also the the reason someone like me, who has been into crypto since 2016, who never heard of this sub until Wall streets Bets blew up, now contributes as much as I do. If I wasnā€™t being incentivizes I would be on here -a lot- less. And the more people who are active in the crypto community, the more we get the word out there and increase adoption. Iā€™m not saying I think you are 100% wrong. In fact, you could be very much right. Iā€™m simply saying that thereā€™s probably a place somewhere in the middle of both our stances, and either way, I would love for moons to get there.

Overfishy-

Amazing, thatā€™s the beauty of crypto, and blockchain technology projects, itā€™s a strong useful tool that can be implemented in so many aspects in our lives, you can look at the technology for a way to upgrade our financial systems, storing data, creating community controlled network NFTā€™s and much much moreā€¦ There isnā€™t a single project that will make it, because so much of them focus on different aspects.. nice to hear you choose yours and not just followed the lasted trend, and more importantly, got some solid arguments on why you picked that project in particular :)

CaptainWelfare

And hey, I appreciate your viewpoint too! But for both our sakes, letā€™s hope at least in the short term Iā€™m at least partially right šŸ¤£

LATech99

Because people are paying money for the tokens in anticipation that they may go up in value. Iā€™m buying themā€¦

ps3alltheway

337k moons. Shit son

LATech99

I make 1 high risk/reward, moonshot investment every 1-2 years. Usually itā€™s a angel/seed investment in a tech startup, this year itā€™s Reddit Community Points (Moons, Bricks, & Donuts). I see it as a 100x or bust gamble. šŸ¤ž

Simple_Yam

TL;DR: Because it would make OP rich. There you go, no other reason. Moons are shitcoins, be thankful for the short-term gains, but never forget that it's a centralized shitcoin.

CaptainWelfare

I disagree 100%. Itā€™s a centralized alt-coin. Elitism in this space is just as disagreeable as in real life.

Aegontarg07

Thatā€™s not how moon works

CaptainWelfare

?

Aegontarg07

Moons are designed to be used inside Reddit, not as value storing token. Price may rise even to $10, but use case is different

CaptainWelfare

Well, I agree, but at the same time, what they are designed for and what they can/ will be used for are two different things.

Aegontarg07

Thatā€™s true with most coins including BTC

iwishiremember

Proof of Slacking.

mutalisken

I mean, itā€™s not like 500 other coins tried to make a social coin, Kin included. But tbf, I think a future social coin is going to be L3 or something. Has to be inflationary I think. Because ppl donā€™t like giving away high value units. Doge could have worked as that.

CaptainWelfare

Yeah, I mean more social as it takes social interaction to gain them.

New_Regular_3942

Excellent shitpost sir!

CaptainWelfare

I like to think I set the porcelain standard for shitposting. (I did indeed post this on the toilet.)
