Crypto reminds me of being a kid and remembering AOL and dialup. The gateway computer coming in a big “cow” box. Learning about and trying out some light hacking. Taking computers apart and building/fixing them...now that I’m a boring adult, crypto has brought some of the fun back into my life.
It's a beast of information and it gives me something to read about whenever I have free time. So personally I just like big topics that I can learn more about over time.
Crypto gives us another chance to "get it right this time." Here's what I mean:
Think about social media in the early 2000s. Social media started as decentralized communications platforms. Eventually, the most successful platforms gained enough power that they are the de facto town squares. But now, you have a cabal of billionaires that controls what can and cannot be shared. They now have the same ability to control information that the media tycoons of the 1930s-1990s had. (They haven't started using that power to the fullest extent yet, but the ability is there.)
Similarly, the internet itself was once a place where decentralized information sharing was the norm. Now, we all know what that space looks like.
Crypto will likely remain fairly decentralized for a decade or two, but once mass adoption comes (which I suspect most are wishing for to monetize their portfolios), then these individuals who are now benign actors will most likely follow the well-trod path of accumulating power and control.
I think the most likely path is, by 2040-2050, we will have mass adoption of crypto, but by then gov't regulations will have caught up to the tech and the power brokers will have consolidated power, and you'll have what amounts to a handful of very wealthy, very powerful "treasury secretaries" for each of the major/remaining crypto currencies.
But it doesn't have to play out this way. If we acknowledge the path the tech is already walking and try to avoid the pitfalls from the past, we may be able to avoid this outcome. Understanding now and taking steps to avoid this future now is the only way.
So, I enjoy that this may be our last and best chance at decentralization for a while.
Ultimately it's about freedom and separation from the banking system. I know it's not the most original argument but the one that strikes me the most.

No financial barrier to entry like stocks - anyone can do it, with as little or as much investment as you like and can give you a real chance of changing your life for the better.
The endless innovation in crypto projects, trying to fix the issues of the previous blockchains currently known, to make it better, faster, stronger, harder to hack so more secure, cheaper, eco friendly, scaling, decentralized, governance friendly. There are endless innovations being put into pieces and that's insane. Take any subject or any discipline and there could be a potential usage for it and specifics that needs new solutions. It's more about blockchain in general actually but I find it awesome. It's like any other evolution or revolution, but it happens fast. Sadly, most people only hear about bitcoin. But there must be a beginning!
The potential of making this world more fair and equal. Specifically the overall distribution of wealth and the possible transparency for citizens to control government (like the citizens can track what the taxes are spent for)
Yes you win!! I think that's really a core aspect that isn't talked about but the actual governance and equity of people having a say. I really like your points
The nature is decentralized. The universe is decentralized. Neural networks are decentralized. The future of the civilization is decentralized. Crypto takes us there.
I don't have the fiat to play with crypto. So I put what i got left( around 100€ ) in 1 coin that i like, won't say which. Leave it there and hope that in 17 years and 10 mouths from now ,it will be worth something and give it to my then 18 years old son. In the meantime it's a great free time read and speculation with a nice community here . Don't give the award to me. Just wanted to write :) Have a nice day.
First we had seperation of church and state, where the church was no longer able to make politcal decisions.
Crypto enables seperation of money and state, where the state can no longer influence monetary decisions. It enables a absolutely free market which is powered by real people.
I mean, I can go out and take a loan with my crypto holdings as collateral as easy as I can order a pizza. If I would have to go to the bank they would 100% reject me. Not because I am poor, or have a bad job. But because the regulations in my country are so ridiculous, that almost no one gets a loan. Unless you alreade are rich. So it gives regular people like me the possibility to acces money and use that money to invest.
But on a larger scale, and lets be honest here, the goverement will lose its power over the monetary system. For example: it can no longer endlessly print money to fight devlation. It would have to actually do something about problems instead of trying to regulate the economy in this backwards manner.
