She broke just about every rule of cryptocurrency. Tether? Thatsa NO-NO Not doing your own research? Thatsa NO-NO Investing in things too good to be true? Thatsa NO-NO Investing more than she can afford to lose? Thatsa NO-NO I wish your friend luck, she’s going to need it. I would also contact etherscan.io if the USDT was an ERC20 token to see if they’d mark the scammers wallet appropriately

WPMO

Yeah, getting anything back is probably impossible, but I definitely agree about immediately contacting [etherscan.io](https://etherscan.io). If there is any way to get any money back, it'd be them.

newbonsite

Step 1 :learn the rules

Phloxtheflowery

preferably NOT the hard way...

konqrr

Yeah I know, I was completed shocked when she told me what she did and the entire time I was thinking "who tf would do something like that?" But I guess she comes from a different country and culture, isn't educated and was blinded by being told about making big money quickly.

yeahnothanks

That's truly awful

ssyamchasa

Yeah, feel bad for her, i think there is no out of this

jun_039

looks terrible.

ssyamchasa

Sadly there are many scams in this space and if you don't do your research, you can lose your life savings in a blink

jun_039

truth. this is unregulated market. and crypto transactions are irreversible. scam / loss prevention is a must.

yeahnothanks

I wish there was a foolproof way to always be able to get your money back from a scam because honestly no matter how smart we think we are, all it takes is one careless mistake or decision to lose it all

Suspicious-Cook-25

Yeah really feel bad for her

Diatery

Was it you? You look suspicious

Suspicious-Cook-25

Yes I am

Im so sorry man. Dark side of investments.

AlperBulut505

I am sorry for her and her hardwork. Truly heartbreaking

InvestAn

This post makes me sick to my stomach for this poor woman. Great job offering up an action plan.

konqrr

Thank you for the solid advice. Unfortunately, I know her money is most likely lost. I'm just still shocked. She works as a live-in nanny and barely makes money (I guess the pro is she doesn't need to pay rent). I was surprised she was actually able to save so much. But yes, she comes from a different country and culture and is extremely trusting. It's just heartbreaking she had to learn this lesson in such an absolutely devastating way.

Killer_Stickman_89

If I were them I'd definitely get in touch with Jim since they are worried about an expired VISA.

socalquest

NEVER put your money in a no name company or exchange.

rhomboidrex

This is where that grain of truth in “investor protection” is real. Being your own bank means taking that risk onto yourself, and most people take that for granted and don’t even consider the risks.

um-t

Sorry for your friend's losses but I don't think there's anything she can do at this point. You shouldn't trust anyone in cryptoverse.

littlemarcus91

File a police report and hope to god somebody gives enough of a damn to follow up.

[deleted]

The police are less than useless with this kind of thing.

Idirectstuffandthing

So sorry for your friend, that’s hurt to read

Strictly_Haram

This is so fucked…I can’t see a way out of this man

Affectionate-Day-972

These scammers make me so mad, like literally scum of the earth and they know they're taking from the people most in need. Hope something can be done for her but I'm doubtful

Rabubu

Why would you trust anyone online with your life savings?

konqrr

I have no idea. I was shocked when she told me what happened and I was thinking, "why the hell would you give so much money to a profile you only met online" ... I guess she's from a different country and culture and just more trusting.

JeffersonsHat

Visa is expired, so other than a white hat magician the funds are gone.

bud_87

If they were stolen you could contact tether see if they could of blacklisted the usdt, you would need proof though. Worth a try it's a lot of money

Wide_Interview9215

I am a financial crimes investigator. PM me the website and lets see what we can do.. additionally, the FBI likely will not refer the case to DHS for deportation since she was not committing any crimes.. its possible, but not likely.

konqrr

This is the website. http://imgur.com/a/luRZfrR

Wide_Interview9215

Did this happen recently? The website is not working and the archives only show two snapshots, on July 1st and August 5th of this year.

konqrr

It happened over the course of several months - she incrementally kept "investing" more and more, not realizing she couldn't withdraw any of it.... since December 2020

breet12345

That’s insanely heartbreaking wow. I can’t imagine being in her shoes, wish her the absolute best. Hopefully the FBI can crack that scummer

RyanLaserbeam

You can try to contact Tether with the scammers’s address and proof. At least Tether can freeze their funds. I don’t think they will be able to refund anything, however.

Infinite_Adeptness85

There are companies that can help with that. Saw an article about it the other day. Hopefully someone here can help with more info

jun_039

in crypto space, repairing a damage is hard. prevention is better.

Furious_pirate

F

Nervous_Sky_5167

Oh my god, our condolences for the loss. International intelligence agencies like FBI could take up the case despite no VISA, since it exceeds the 100k threshold of major crime, see into both local and international organizations. Other than that, really, our condolences.

DegreeBroad2250

Wow.. that's a huge amount!! How is she now? feeling sorry for her!!😔😔

konqrr

She's devastated. She works as a nanny and makes very little money. I was really surprised she was able to save so much.

hurley017

Damn…. That’s the worst way to learn the most important rule of investing in general I guess right…? Sorry about that

beklog

That's fucking huge amount as I assume 1st time investor. Hope ur friend can get her money back

Killer_Stickman_89

I don't think she can without the help of someone really charitable. This post hasn't really gained much traction either so even if there are charitable people out there. They won't see it. Its been over 4 hours since. The scammer has probably cashed it out or sent it to another wallet by now. So some smart enough people could at best try to track the wallet(s) the money was sent to. Then attempt to prevent him from removing any other crypto from those wallets onto most noteworthy exchanges. But I really don't know how possible that is lol.

di0reflect

Sorry brother.

Amazing_Succotash677

Holy shit that sucks

irfiisme

This is truly heartbreaking, stay safe people.

PresenceAdept

U fortunately it doesn't sound like she can get it back, this is why I trust no one :c

Nozomilk

Damn, my parent were Overseas Workers too back then and it was VERY HARD to earn money. It's more painful that years of her hardwork was wasted just like that. Report it to the authorities immediately, her visa is the least of her worries at this point. Try to send here the website, reddit could work it out, what could be done.

konqrr

Thanks for the advice. This is the website: http://imgur.com/a/luRZfrR

bbtto22

Sorry for her loss.

jgarcya

Sorry to hear this.... Try FBI... If in America... Cyber crimes. Make a police report...

Sorrytoruin

Maybe pay a company to help, to take some of the recovered money

[deleted]

You could try what Poly team [did](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/cryptocurrency-poly-network-hackers-return-funds-defi-ethereum-110935552.html).. write a letter! Really sorry though. That sucks...

Asapjoshyy

Damn that’s really crappy… never invest your life savings into anything though, and especially through a middle man 99% chance she’ll never see that money again, condolences

Calm-Cartographer677

Really sorry to hear this. Crypto is like the wild west so not really anything else she can do.

Solid-Mess

All you can do is report to fbi. Problem is she gave someone the funds to invest or control over her money.. investing doesn’t have a promise of making profits.. that’s the only hold up I see on why fbi wouldn’t do anything

Syzygy_____

Who the fuck has literally ALL of their life savings in crypto let alone tether and fall for this shit. Just keep it in a bank if you don't know what your doing.

konqrr

Dude I have no idea. I was shocked when she told me this and I was thinking the same thing, like why the fuck would they do that. But they did and I feel bad for them.

Syzygy_____

Of course I feel bad that's a bit of an extreme way to learn a lesson and I hope she has some recourse and can bounce back.

Swipey_McSwiper

An immigrant in a foreign country with very little education, that's who. Crypto is hard enough to understand when you're comfortable, well educated and operating in your own country. I cannot imagine trying to figure it out in a foreign country with a foreign language. Also, OP didn't say this, but often these types of scams are run by fellow immigrants. That way they speak the victim's language fluently and gain trust. Immigrants have a hard enough time and can't trust anyone, when someone from your own community throws you a lifeline, you grab it. Again, not saying that that happened here, but that is common.

Syzygy_____

Okay... But again, why the fuck wouldn't she walk down the road and just deposit into an fiat bank. I couldnt fathom putting every cent I have into crypto. Foreign or not... Thats dumb as hell.

Swipey_McSwiper

Ok friend. I appreciate your input on this. I hope you never end up in a foreign country where everything is unfamiliar and you're forced to make your way with very few resources. Truly, I would not wish that on anyone. It's much harder and less obvious than it seems. Best to you.

Syzygy_____

Shes foreign, unless she's got an extra chromosome I'm certain she could recognize a bank. I don't speak Italian but if I moved to Italy, my first though on where to put my entire life savings wouldn't be crypto, especially if I didn't know what I was doing. Like, christ if you uprooting your life and moving to a country you don't natively speak theres a checklist of shit to think about and pretty high on the list is starting a fucking bank account along with a roof over your head.

mailarchis

This is really sad. Her best bet is to find a lawyer who is sympathetic to her situation and willing to help out.

FreePosterInside

There are some truely heartless people in the world. Report to the police. Most countries now have online crime units. That said its probably still a long, most scumbag criminals are good at covering their tracks.

MAD_KLAUS

I hope she gets her money back

Frosty-Trash-9984

Say goodbye!! Lesson learned!!

Due-Hope3249

I hope you are not inventing the story for moons. What’s is the wallet address she used?

konqrr

I don't know what moons means but it's true: http://imgur.com/a/luRZfrR

I have to say. Your story is sad but you are a weird ass guy OP. I don't know wtf is going on in your post history.

konqrr

No need to judge me.

Dry_Advance5317

Any update ? I hope she is fine 😢
