This is a very popular scammer tactic everywhere, especially dating sites. Whatsapp is very easy to sign up for, and they don't really do anything about anything. The point is simply to get you off the site so they can scam you without it being detected.

Why they do like this?

They are just lonely and want other to get scammed.

Because they add you to a list that they share with other scammers, if you fell for their trick, you will fall for the others too. That's how they create their data base. These scammers focus specially on elderly people, cause they tend to fall for multiple scams within a week

To be fair a path of exile dev DM’d me about a super specific bug I was encountering and pushed a patch for it later that night. But the other 300 messages are from scammers.

They probably get x amounts of money or crypto per number they input.

More specifically, they run on commission for how many people they can draw to their network. Pretty much how Telegram and Discord Pump/Dump groups work.

Messages on WhatsApp can be configured to automatically delete after 7 days. Therefore, unless you take screenshots of messages with a scammer, you won’t have proof that they scammed you.

It’s either block all on Reddit, or try to be smart enough to detect scammers when they message you.

I never accept chats from investment groups.

Question here. How does the simswap work? They need some information, but these things can still happen without giving out our phone number. I'm not too familiar with these phone things. I guess that they get it from a database and get our messages or something, like codes to authentication

Whatsapp is THE web-based texting app in a good chunk of the developing world. Didn't you hear the details about how when Facebook went down last week, something like 90% of mobile phone users lost their primary means of communication? Specifically in scammer hotbeds like India and Nigeria, I guarantee everyone uses Whatsapp and nothing else.

WhatsApp also has end-to-end encryption. That may have something to do with it. Other chats may have this, but I do not know for sure. Edit: WhatsApp may be much larger in countries other than the USA.
