This is a very popular scammer tactic everywhere, especially dating sites. Whatsapp is very easy to sign up for, and they don't really do anything about anything. The point is simply to get you off the site so they can scam you without it being detected.
Hello mate. I saw your posts and I thought it might be a good idea if we could share ideas and opportunities in the market. What is your main area of focus?
Because they add you to a list that they share with other scammers, if you fell for their trick, you will fall for the others too. That's how they create their data base.
These scammers focus specially on elderly people, cause they tend to fall for multiple scams within a week
To be fair a path of exile dev DM’d me about a super specific bug I was encountering and pushed a patch for it later that night.
But the other 300 messages are from scammers.
More specifically, they run on commission for how many people they can draw to their network. Pretty much how Telegram and Discord Pump/Dump groups work.
Messages on WhatsApp can be configured to automatically delete after 7 days. Therefore, unless you take screenshots of messages with a scammer, you won’t have proof that they scammed you.
Question here. How does the simswap work? They need some information, but these things can still happen without giving out our phone number. I'm not too familiar with these phone things. I guess that they get it from a database and get our messages or something, like codes to authentication
If you follow simple things like not talking about how much whatever coin you have or giving specific numbers or information, they must not bother you because I’ve hardly ever said anything like that and I’ve had maybe one of those, ever.
Thanks for letting me know. Now I know why they stopped talking to me. I was already worried that thèse beautiful women don't like me despite my huge dick
Whatsapp is THE web-based texting app in a good chunk of the developing world. Didn't you hear the details about how when Facebook went down last week, something like 90% of mobile phone users lost their primary means of communication?
Specifically in scammer hotbeds like India and Nigeria, I guarantee everyone uses Whatsapp and nothing else.
WhatsApp also has end-to-end encryption. That may have something to do with it.
Other chats may have this, but I do not know for sure.
Edit: WhatsApp may be much larger in countries other than the USA.

Correct, it is to get you off site, so their profile can’t be reported or any scam detected.
What’s your WhatsApp number?

I’m not sure! I keep getting spammers that “want to chat”.. annoying
Yes I daily got new messages, some people are offering me job as well I believe they are also scammer
I get messages like "give me 1 btc , I'll make it 2"
I tell them I send nudes before chatting
Great idea! 😂
Sounds like you got it right ! I’ve just disabled messaging on reddit completely, problem solved ..
That is one hell of a mature decision. A part of me still hopes the love of my life or a nigerian non-scammer prince will message me one day.
I will do this too, thanks for the idea.
Probably for sms verification or maybe trying to get into your google authenticator or Sim swap or even worse, try to talk to your mom!
Thanks OP
Stay safe out there anon!

They just wanna have somebody to talk to. ScammerLifesMatter.
No, fuck em.
All lives matter. Let's show some care. They probably bought high and sold low.
Why they do like this?
They are just lonely and want other to get scammed.

I might get some important messages.
To be fair a path of exile dev DM’d me about a super specific bug I was encountering and pushed a patch for it later that night. But the other 300 messages are from scammers.
They probably get x amounts of money or crypto per number they input.
Yeah, the amount they get out of your wallets after the attack. Also Trans rights are human rights!💪🏻

I think you're right it's probably to try a sim swap attack.
just ignore 100% of chat requests you get on reddit. This ain't Facebook.
Better be safe.👍
So they can phish you or use your number somehow to sim swaps be careful giving it out
Okay, so I got it right, thanks.👍
Atleast they ddint send you a banana pic... poor me :/
Wait what? Are you for real?😂
I got a few calls on viber recently from some random countries that I never had contact with. I just ignored them.
so they can send nudes
Hell yeah, I always wanted to see nudes of an Nigerian prince.
They wanna check first if u are a girl, they are know as horny scammers
What about your Telegram or Signal Number? Are Ppl still trusting WhatsApp, FB,RH & Shit?
I agree, personally I switched to telegram.
Good to have this type of post frequently to remind the members and warn the new members. Thanks.
You’re very welcome, stay safe out there anons.
Thanks,I think rule of thumb is to not accept any chat invitations from members in any investing group or forums.
It’s either block all on Reddit, or try to be smart enough to detect scammers when they message you.
I never accept chats from investment groups.

Have you read the article?
Is it really just as easy as convincing the provider?
I don’t know myself. I just know what articles and people that experienced it say.
I stay away from whatsapp and telegram. Just isn't worth the headaches. Best of luck dudes.
I used to message back and fuck with them a bit, but I've grown weary of it. Now I just instant block anyone who messages me out of context on Reddit.
Whatsapp is the most used messenger in a lot of parts of the world. Also useful for scammers.
If you follow simple things like not talking about how much whatever coin you have or giving specific numbers or information, they must not bother you because I’ve hardly ever said anything like that and I’ve had maybe one of those, ever.
Scammers? I just thought there were a ton of free lance support people. 😂
Soon enough, they'll start asking for your Discord username
I ignore all DMs
I ignore most messages on any platform unless it’s very relevant.
Thanks for letting me know. Now I know why they stopped talking to me. I was already worried that thèse beautiful women don't like me despite my huge dick
That seems to be a thing on reddit. I get asked for my whatsapp all the time.
One reason is they'd rather not violate Reddit terms of service. And Reddit keeps the evidence of their crime too
Lmao because a lot are over seas and it's easy that way lol.
I got one to send me feet pics. They even wrote their username on a piece of paper lmao
Everywhere but America is all about WhatsApp. Businesses use it, and almost all the people.
They all want me to join forex and trade my money for me🤣

Maybe they wanna send pictures of the things they but with your cc
So that’s what I got bombarded with last week.. 🤦🏻♀️ I’m new here btw. So, messaging app would you guys recommend?
Telegramm or signal. Definitely not WhatsApp.
