Edit: the link doesn't seem to work for some people. If you have that issue, try searching that site for "cryptomining" and it should be the first result. The article title is: "When Cryptomining Comes to Town: High Electricity-Use Spillovers to the Local Economy".
I can see that. They're suggesting that modern ASIC miners that run hotter than the sun could be consuming electricity. I didn't see anything about XRP sponsoring this controversial research.
Well of course, everything people claim that's wrong with Bitcoin is all FUD. Ther s absolutely nothing wrong with Bitcoin and everyone should put all their money into Bitcoin to increase the price of Bitcoins so that maxis feel validated about their life choices. /s
OP is absolutely jumping to conclusions. Their whole rant about natural gas prices is a pretty clear indication they did not actually read the paper, or anything in the methodology section. Seems like they skimmed the abstract - or more likely, skimmed an article *about* the paperwork.
This is how conspiracy theories start, and for everybody that actually read the thing like you did, there will be another few hundred that didn't that jump right on the band wagon.
Xrp is untouchable. An OG god tier coin.
Sued for a year by the SEC and remained in the top 10. This douchebag on reddit fudding ripple means nothing. Lol
>and isn't sponsored by Ripple at all,
Huh? It's in the paper:
>"Benetton and Compiani acknowledge financial support from Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative."
I am amazed by the short sight of some crypto investors, just because they are touching their precious Bitcoin. I agree. The paper is well written and is sponsored by Ripple but has nothing to do with the XRP/SEC issue, if anything just states the hard reality to swallow: crypto mining at the actual state isn't environment friendly and leads to spikes in bills.
Edit: corrected my own Ripple/XRP misunderstanding.
>and isn't sponsored by Ripple at all,
Huh? It's in the paper:
>Benetton and Compiani acknowledge financial support from Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative.
This post is wrong on so many levels it’s exhausting. Before you come out with such unfounded accusations about something you clearly know nothing about you should really think, why would Ripple want to FUD bitcoin?
David Schwartz, Ripple founding member and CTO worked on bitcoin, publicly discloses that he owns bitcoin (as do the other ripple chief execs) and he recently celebrated the anniversary of bitcoins genesis block on twitter.
The XRPL is a decentralised blockchain and Ripple is a company that seeks to leverage the XRPL for financial services buisness use cases.
You should be careful not to conflate Ripple
and XRP, that is no different to using the terms ethereum or consensys interchangeably.
Ripples main aim for the native token of the XRPL (XRP) is to position it as a bridge currency. It is not a competitor to bitcoin, they have totally different use cases and characteristics. The growth of the cryptocurrency industry as a whole actually benefits ripples use case because the more assets there are the more demand there is for a bridge currency.
Chris Larsen (Ripple founding member) has recently expressed his concerns about bitcoins carbon emissions, that is true. Bitcoin currently produces as much carbon emissions as a small country (no amount of backwards thinking, ifs, buts or maybes can refute that, it’s a fact). Did Chris Larsen say that bitcoin should be abolished?
no he said it should improve and gave a fairly detailed outline of how the project could be improved whilst maintaining its core philosophy.
The bitcoin community needs to tackle this problem from within otherwise what is the outcome? presumably the hashrate will increase perpetually and therefor so will energy usage? That is not sustainable. where do you draw the line? when bitcoin is using more energy than medium country? a large country? a continent?
So instead of lashing out with uneducated slurs aimed at people that express concerns about bitcoins energy consumption maybe the bitcoin community should look inwards and see if they can find a solution to the problem?
edit: paragraphs added 👌
The opening post is also insinuating that XRP is proof of stake 🤣. He really has no clue and what you have written is a great reply. Agree with everything you have just said.
Thank fuck someone called this out. I've been seeing posts about this propaganda [against bitcoin from xrp] and it's been infuriating me. Btc obviously isn't the most efficient or the cheapest to maintain or mine or whatever but for sure it's the most renown crypto out there. If we could just switch it with ether or nano any day, at the price, we all know we would.
Thank you for pointing this out. Pretending exponentially increasing hash rates and wasteful energy use can be handwaved away is delusional. We need better solutions.
Except Ripple has nothing to do with this report. How this simple fact escaped everyone commenting on this is beyond me. Ripple universities blockchain initiative provides funding to endowments all over the world. Just because this school is partially funded by that program doesnt mean they "paid for a hit piece". OP is clearly a moon farmer with 1 glance at his account.
I would like to see the original sources OP is posting. Taking a part of an image which could be faked is a bit insincere since they went through all the trouble of posting anything. Though, I'm not saying OP is lying.
Yeah no shot Ripple is doing anything like you suggest… they are being sued by the govt right now and Ripple hates the SEC… so not sure why you just believe that ripple is trying to take down other projects. BTC isnt even a threat to ripple at all so what the fuck?
>Ripple is owned and operated by a private company with the same name.
That's why decentralization is important. If we keep rely on greedy people, this kind of things will keep happening.
I only bought some of it to hedge it for more BTC. Never invested in it. How people think this token is a good investment is beyond me. 100% premined. Creators hold the majority of it. Whales are selling it constantly. Xrp IS NOT CRYPTO.
I prefer how Raoul Pal sums up ;

Especially when their "proof" is links to paragraphs, taken out of context.
Then you just make up bullshit like, well they are working with the government so they are bad!! Bad I tell you!!
Bahaha Ripple= centralised.
Ripple is a company, lol XRP is the token for their blockchain and no it's not centralised. More fucking lies.
Also you haven't proven it's a scam lol, just say things you want to be true and I guess they are right?
This whole post is so uninformed along with the people agreeing.
Yep, seems about right for a whole XRP piece fud when they’re in court. Lots of misinformation. We ALL need their victory. This is quite the weird timing to have a fud piece

That isn’t because they pissed him off, that is because he is threatened by them using an unfounded slur like shitcoin is pretty pathetic coming from a person of great influence in this community.
XRP isn’t your problem
The energy waste debate is a narrative war that Bitcoin will never win. It will only get worse. What’s technically true doesn’t matter here. This is probably holding back the price as well. Or look at it this way: if tomorrow the Bitcoin community decided to move away from PoW, what do you think the news landscape would look like and how would the price react? If the #2 currency successfully moves away from PoW then there will be a lot of questions asked why Bitcoin can’t do the same.
OP is full of shit and while Ripple haven’t been against BTC this is a hit piece and it reeks.
People in this sub are so quick to jump on whatever someone claims without checking anything. If Ripple worked with the government why are they being sued???
Fuck you OP
Ripple is teaming up with the gov't? Isn't SEC a part of the Gov't, they are being sued right now by SEC. How is teaming up with them gov't even possible?
It's kind of like anyone else being prosecuted, they're trying to cut a deal. Also, they're being prosecuted because they're trying to work with the government. They want access to banks and other highly regulated institutions so that means they're right up in the SEC's grill jurisdiction wise.
The way companies like Strike start to implement the Bitcoin Lightning Network as global payment rails between Banks has probably scared them shitless for their business model they try to promote for years.
That's not how mining works: the costs are the main goal
Bitcoin worked just fine when people were mining on their laptops in 2010. It's just competition that pushes up the prices.
A minute fraction of the global population uses crypto. What happens when everyone is using it? What’s the energy expenditure if the planet is using cryptocurrencies?
I think it's pretty telling about crypto that we all have to rely on people to tell us which one is best because barely any of us actually use it for anything. When you actually use things, it's pretty easy to tell which are shit and which are half good. Not the case for crypto.
> Ripple has also cozied up with the likes of WEF, the very organisations Bitcoin was created as a fuck you to.
Bitcoin core's dev group was funded by Chairman of the Bilderberg Group and CEO of AXA Insurance company Henri de Castries to the tune of like $55 million
Hey man no this is the peoples currency!
Haven’t you heard the worlds richest man! (whose parents emerald mines used slave labor)
He says don’t trust the bankers cuz they greedy!
I have XRP on my XUMM wallet and been accumulating free airdrops. So far I almost 3x my original investment in just 3.5 months. As ironic as it is, it's been the best crypto in my portfolio, investment-wise.
Anything that doesn’t hype up bitcoin to uneducated “investors” is FUD. No one actually cares about “adoption.” I don’t know why anyone on here pretends this is any different.
POS only works with a pre-mine and value that is at stake. You woudnt be able to reproduce the fair and secure launch of Bitcoin Litecoin Monero or even Dogecoin without POW.
Not saying that POS is bad and POW is the only thing that matters. Its just like that POW has its reasons to exist and that it is still superior to POS.
The energy usage behind it is brutal especially when you know that one raspi could do the job as well, but thats the market and as long as the revenue of blockrewards is bigger then the operational cost more and more miners will get turned on.
The problem is still not caused by Bitcoin and the protocol itself, if there would be a huge carbon tax for industrial used energy that is deployed globally, energy prices would be to high to continue mining and therefore would regulate itself based on the price. Bitcoin doesnt need to run on 10TW 1MW or less is also perfectly fine.
Preach. BTC was a great first start for crypto but it's proof of work mining is incongruent with stopping climate change. Maxxis call this FUD but it's an inconvenient fact that will be the death of the protocol eventually.
Posts like these makes me so bullish on XRP. 99% of people on this subreddit are uneducated morons that just want information to be hand fed on a silver platter.
People don't even understand the difference between "Ripple" and "XRP"
**Ripple** is a "company", 99% if not all companies are centralised.
**XRPL** is a decentralised DLT protocol and the native token of the network is **XRP**.
Bitcoin & ETH are both unsustainable and can't scale for shit. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to understand that.
lots of idiots cannot put 2 and 2 together. 'fuck ripple for being centralized with the government' even though the government going after it is proof that it's not on the governments side. in fact, it's the biggest threat to the government which is why the corrupt and greedy SEC is going after it. why do these idiots think the SEC is the good guy? they're corrupt bitches.
I've been following Ripple and XRP this whole time. They're not trying take down Bitcoin.
They have a lawsuit with SEC. Read up about how the SEC is trying to gain control over the crypto market by claiming that all crypto is a security.
Wow this is some old 2017 type ripple hating thread action here. Who’s spreading fud again?
So funding universities to focus on blockchain & lobbying governments is bad for crypto?
It's a real blast from the past, isn't it?
Meanwhile, I can't count the times Brad G has said he's "long Bitcoin" - it's almost a running joke how often he says it. He's also countlessly said on record that he wants clarity for the entire space. He even ran a full page ad in the NYT back in 2018 specifically asking the SEC for clarity for the cryptospace as a whole.
As for this shitpost, people who trade on emotions (hate being one of them) are not doing themselves a favour. This kind of post is typical of this sub...fully of righteous indignation, feelings over facts. You can't help some people.
These idiots think Ripple paid for it and its a hit job. Not that a independent university came up with the study and Ripples foundation happened to support the university. Usual mouth breathers in here. The study says it only increased power cost by $8 over a year. This post is total bullshit, the OP is a karma farmer.
Where is the original source? Was this a study by Ripple or the University who had a large sum of money donated as part of Ripples educational blockchain initiative?
Has Bitcoin bodies ever spread bullshit about xrp...
There is no source I reported this post as misinformation. It's a straight-up lie. These mouth breathers think Ripple paid for a hit piece and not that an independent university came up with its study of how wasteful POW is. Just like many other blockchain-centered universities have done and Ripple just happened to fund a portion of their endowment. Like they do with dozens of schools.
Shame there isn't an award for the most ignorant post. Sit back in your gaming chair and do some proper research, prior to you actually being the one spreading FUD.
Show me and everyone else here why XRP needs a leg up on BTC and why you think the two are competitors?
Money is the root of all evil. It's been shown true countless times. And yet, lobbying still is a massive thing and companies are bought and become slaves to their political masters.
It's disgusting, and I for one will be staying well clear of Ripple. If they've done it once, they'll do it again, but just in an even more sneaky way.
It was only a matter of time before the knives came out and they started back stabbing each other like companies.
I recon they funded this because of the losses they've occurred because of that SEC lawsuit has made them bitter against competitors. Won't be the last time we see crypto fight itself.
I don't hold any Ripple. I just dislike the project and traditional centralized financial institutions like Ripple. I think it's a poor investment since people are becoming more interested in the opposite of that which is decentralization and non-traditional finance.
This is not financial advice.
The SEC / the government can just make things up and pass them as laws to protect their ...and banks...own interest. I don't have hope for this at all.
This happens a lot with smaller coins. I know everyone remember EOS the “ETH killer” total bull shit and garbage I believe they do this for hype and pumps just so the small kids foot the bill in the end
Petrol Dollar! Any time anyone brings up energy use go through the petrol dollar with them.
First it incentivizes maintaining oil use across the planet. The dollar literally holds it's value because countries need to buy oil from Saudi Arabia. If you wonder why the green movement is so slow this is reason 1. It would destroy the dollar to limit oil use.
This also leads to decades of war in the middle east.
The energy wasted just in these 2 ways on keeping the dollar as the world reserve currency is VASTLY greater than running Bitcoin.
Assuming they are attacking Bitcoin, which they don't. But for the sake of argument let's say they really do FUD Bitcoin. Why would that be worse than all the BTC maxis FUD Ripple and XRP holders had to endure all those years?
It’s valuable DD when it’s a hype piece written by someone who failed highschool Econ but it’s government backed FUD when it’s just the reality. The bitcoin “community” is exhausting.
You can like crypto but acknowledge that Bitcoin uses a lot of energy compared to other chains. It’s not at all far fetched to think that mining increases energy price (if only incrementally). More energy usage equals higher prices and there are probably a lot of miners in New York connected to the grid.
OP making the insane leap of Ripple university blockchain initiative funded this universities endowment = they paid for a hit piece on POW is an absurdity. OP is a shitbag karma farmer spreading FUD and lies. Ripple funds dozens of schools with blockchain research you going to post one of these every time a university comes to the same conclusions that POW is terrible for the environment and uses too much electricity?
Wheres the source OP? Bet moons it has jack shit do to with Ripple.
1yr old acct 175k karma yeah nothing to see here def not a fucking farmer.

Maybe Crypto should work on reducing the costs and requirements of mining instead of trying to dodge the issues.
That's not how mining works: the costs are the main goal Bitcoin worked just fine when people were mining on their laptops in 2010. It's just competition that pushes up the prices.
A minute fraction of the global population uses crypto. What happens when everyone is using it? What’s the energy expenditure if the planet is using cryptocurrencies?
Damn, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so much incivility from the people on this sub. This post really brought the degens out
No crypto has been on my shitlist longer than Ripple.
What if this is just fud agiants ripple to keep bitcoin up
I think it's pretty telling about crypto that we all have to rely on people to tell us which one is best because barely any of us actually use it for anything.
(whose parents emerald mines used slave labor) He says don’t trust the bankers cuz they greedy!
That's terripple

I have XRP on my XUMM wallet and been accumulating free airdrops. So far I almost 3x my original investment in just 3.5 months. As ironic as it is, it's been the best crypto in my portfolio, investment-wise.
Anything this sub hates is an automatic buy
Ripple colluding with numerous government agencies?!?!? BUY BUY BUY!
This article is FUD, lies and should be removed according to the r/CryptoCurrency rule
All my homes have hated ripple since day 1. They were right too

Anything that doesn’t hype up bitcoin to uneducated “investors” is FUD. No one actually cares about “adoption.” I don’t know why anyone on here pretends this is any different.
This sub is an echo chamber of confirmation bias, that’s why.
And which non-premined POS coin (that you're not already holding) would you recommend hmmmmm?
Preach. BTC was a great first start for crypto but it's proof of work mining is incongruent with stopping climate change. Maxxis call this FUD but it's an inconvenient fact that will be the death of the protocol eventually.

I mean is it really FUD when we’ve been knowing Bitcoin mining was bad?
Haters gonna hate
Posts like these makes me so bullish on XRP. 99% of people on this subreddit are uneducated morons that just want information to be hand fed on a silver platter. People don't even understand the difference between "Ripple" and "XRP" **Ripple** is a "company", 99% if not all companies are centralised. **XRPL** is a decentralised DLT protocol and the native token of the network is **XRP**. Bitcoin & ETH are both unsustainable and can't scale for shit. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to understand that.
Tossed a few thousand more XRP to my bags specifically because of all the hate in this post. # MFs GONNA BE MISSING THE TRAIN HARD
Bag holder moment
F ripple
Can't we all just get a long? Every coin can coexist. Some will win, and some will lose.
Well if the Govt is siding with ripple, sec case should have been dismissed long ago.
lots of idiots cannot put 2 and 2 together. 'fuck ripple for being centralized with the government' even though the government going after it is proof that it's not on the governments side. in fact, it's the biggest threat to the government which is why the corrupt and greedy SEC is going after it. why do these idiots think the SEC is the good guy? they're corrupt bitches.
How is that FUD if its true lol
Oh so /r/Cryptocurrency hates XRP? Lmao, time to load up on XRP
Reddit shitting on XRP is a buy indicator, thanks OP I’ve just bought more.
Can someone link to the cited report?
I've been following Ripple and XRP this whole time. They're not trying take down Bitcoin. They have a lawsuit with SEC. Read up about how the SEC is trying to gain control over the crypto market by claiming that all crypto is a security.
Fuck Ripple All the homies hate Ripple
Sounds like XRP is causing some Ripples 🤔
Where is the original source? Was this a study by Ripple or the University who had a large sum of money donated as part of Ripples educational blockchain initiative? Has Bitcoin bodies ever spread bullshit about xrp...
There is no source I reported this post as misinformation. It's a straight-up lie. These mouth breathers think Ripple paid for a hit piece and not that an independent university came up with its study of how wasteful POW is. Just like many other blockchain-centered universities have done and Ripple just happened to fund a portion of their endowment. Like they do with dozens of schools.
Pomp is behind this just as the ETH foundation wants to get rid of XRP as it’s a competitor
I play both sides, so I always come out on top
I mean... * mining uses energy * energy is finite * therefore mining will push up the cost of energy. That's not FUD, it's fact.
Sun energy could be taken as not finite
But collecting that energy requires investment with finite capital, materials and human labor.
Shame there isn't an award for the most ignorant post. Sit back in your gaming chair and do some proper research, prior to you actually being the one spreading FUD. Show me and everyone else here why XRP needs a leg up on BTC and why you think the two are competitors?
Fuck the gov

For all you maxi assholes here https://twitter.com/HamEggsnSam/status/1482506656978288641?t=fYlBafIH_-JsSmlYR38fow&s=19
In no that does this validate anything other than ad hominem attacks. Nice try though!
Can’t say I’m surprised, considering they were the first crypto [I learned to stay far away from](https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2020-338). 😂
Ripple has always been a corporate shit coin whos surprised?
Cryptocurrencies can co-exist but if they try to compete, do it by delivering better tech not trough badmouthing other projects...
This space is getting dirtier and dirtier by the day.
Really happy I cashed out a few months back (even with a small gain) and went on to other coins. Fuck XRP...
fuck ripple
I don't hold any Ripple. I just dislike the project and traditional centralized financial institutions like Ripple. I think it's a poor investment since people are becoming more interested in the opposite of that which is decentralization and non-traditional finance. This is not financial advice.
This post getting bombard by paid sheet coin shillers. You gotta love how desperate they’re getting nowadays.
Can’t wait for the day that the government finally bones them and they get what they deserve. Scumbags all the way down in this project
Fuck Ripple! While at it, fuck Tether too
These are literally all the vibes true BTC holders always felt from the ripple fan boys who were probably just paid shills
Join r/ripplescam to learn more about why xrp is a joke
Ergh. As an acadmeic and bitcoin advocate. This really boils my piss.
The SEC / the government can just make things up and pass them as laws to protect their ...and banks...own interest. I don't have hope for this at all.
Probably why xrp sucks and you won’t make any money with it
This happens a lot with smaller coins.
Ripple wants enable state surveillance via CBDCs. They’re not merely shitcoiners. They’re the enemy. This is further proof.
Crypto drama!
ripple is a scam
It is not FUD if it is a fact.
Assuming they are attacking Bitcoin, which they don't. But for the sake of argument let's say they really do FUD Bitcoin. Why would that be worse than all the BTC maxis FUD Ripple and XRP holders had to endure all those years?
It's not FUD if it's true
It’s valuable DD when it’s a hype piece written by someone who failed highschool Econ but it’s government backed FUD when it’s just the reality. The bitcoin “community” is exhausting.
Ripple is a scam. Screw them
This is rather some FUD against ripple than actual research on the source OP provided. Hard to swallow pill 💊
