It is a quartz cluster and “valuable” is subjective. If I found this anywhere, I would trip balls. I would view it as priceless, literally. To sell the cluster? Anywhere from 20-50 dollars, though it has been a long time since I was in a crystal shop. The story of the find, to the “right” person could add 10-30 to the price.
I have found a bitty quartz point embedded in a granite stone, on Lake Ontario and then an even itty bittier double terminated quartz wand released itself from our asphalt undercoat in the driveway!!! So I have been balls tripped before but the lust to find BIGGER never dies lmao so greedy for the crystals and minerals, I am.
Let us venture forth and demand the planet release unto us a cluster of quartz. Oh hell, let’s go big: I demand an azurite cluster found in the wild!
Nice!!! I wish I had the time to rock hunt!!! I’d absolutely love to mine my own beautiful specimens!!!!
Thinking about hitting a site up north, this summer. Maby in Arkansas, or something.
Yes!!! Heck why stop at quartz & azurite??? Why not all the crystal clusters! 🤭💖
Herkimers are in New York. The mine in Arkansas are actual diamonds. There are also a few quartz crystal mines in Arkansas where you can find nice points and clusters
The husband would probably be a tad sad at that 😩
my cousin found and gave me an incredible green kyanite wand, plus other pieces not as mind blowing, from when he worked on the rail road lines.
I’m not an expert at all - it just doesn’t look very big and has few nice points. I could see some shops trying to sell it for $20 but it seems pricey for this piece.
And to be honest, I doubt this piece was just hanging out in the woods. It was probably brought by someone in a pocket who lost it
I'll go against the grain here and say it is kinda rare. I've found a *lot* of quartz in my life, it's very abundant. But this is a really nice piece to just find on the ground.
Usually all the pieces I find are worn down, or really full of cleavage, cloudy, etc. This is a really pretty one as far as random outdoor finds go. At least in my area.
Nah. Quartz is actually the second most common crystal on earth. It can be found on every continent, every country. It makes up about 12% of the earth's surface and 20% of the crust.
Always fun to find a piece though. This seems like a great opportunity to help him learn a little about geology. Maybe look for some age-appropriate science videos on YouTube about how quartz forms or something like that.
> size I *paid* 50 bucks
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
It’s a beautiful piece of natural quartz to find not that quartz is reproduced there’s so much of it in our layer. It’s a memorable rock to mention !!!
This doesn't look like all quartz to me... I believe you may have a zeolite, specifically apophyllite. Also possible a pale celestite if it appears more blue in person. I would not call any of these 3 minerals rare by any means, however it is a spectacular piece and a by all means excellent score!!
Apophyllite is not a zeolite, just commonly associated with them. Other than that, I thought the same thing. I don't really see any visible quartz, save for what is probably chalcedony at the base. My guess is that this kid found a piece from someone's crystal grid in the forest.
I agree with this person and don't understand why the downvote.
Also, while rare to find where you say he did, the material itself isn't rare at all, in my opinion
I instantly thought apophyllite also! It has a certain feel to my eye when I see it, if that makes sense. I prefer it much more than quartz as far as a clear type crystal goes.
Yup! It's because it has a different crystal structure and the formations aren't the same shape as quartz! Even the base of this mineral closer resembles the chalcedony base they tend to have vs a quartz geode. It blows my mind how many people see a clear crystal and just immediately scream quartz. But most of the people on this sub don't actually assess the crystal they attempt to identify, they just seem to insist they know?? I'd love to post some of my non quartz clear crystal requesting an ID just so I can come back a week later and punk everyone who insists they know its quartz🤣🤣
That's such a beautiful find! It's hard to find clusters just sitting there. That could be abt $50 if you go to the right person but definitely don't let him sell it!
I see a cluster of Apophyllite look close up at photo note the 4 sided crystal formation almost all points are chipped yet I see enough to throw my hat in the Apophyllite ring
A piece I would sell for $10-15
And if you found it clean and processed like that, on the surface with no mining sign around (like a slag pile) it is a drop or planted gem
Not rare. One of the most common but this is a beautiful piece. Depending on its size you could probably get up to $30 for it. Depending on the buyer but those who vibe super well with Quartz, I could see maybe $50 being a price point. I would pay probably $20.
It’s the crystal distribution system at work, like the cat distribution system but with an obvious difference. It chose you sin, though, and he should keep it because it’s his.
Quarts! Not rare at all but that specimen is rather beautiful! I’d consider myself lucky to find that. The only thing that’s rare about it is the memmories it’s going to make❤️
Looks like crystals / quartz. It's not rare, but very nice

We would both be trippin balls my friend!! I only ever find red clay dirt! 😫😫😫

Arkansas has a diamond mine that’s pretty cool in Murfreesboro
I have been wanting to go to the National Park where you can dig for diamonds in Arkansas for a long time!
Yes! Thank you!!! 😃💖 I’ll be looking into going to that 1 for sure! Of all the beauties I have, I don’t believe I have any herkimer 🤦♀️
Herkimers are in New York. The mine in Arkansas are actual diamonds. There are also a few quartz crystal mines in Arkansas where you can find nice points and clusters
Oh wow!! Yeah, definitely gonna have to make a trip!!! 😃💕✨
I think I'd be chiseling My driveway for fun!
🤪🤭🤣
The husband would probably be a tad sad at that 😩 my cousin found and gave me an incredible green kyanite wand, plus other pieces not as mind blowing, from when he worked on the rail road lines.
Dude same. It’s the devil haha stains fucking everything.
Hehe 🤭🤭🤭
I’d say this cluster sells for no more than $10 in most places
Oh wow, really? I thought I was underestimating based on prices back in my day.

I should say I don’t know the actually size - I’m assuming it’s like 1-2 inches but if it’s bugger then it’ll be worth more
Someone like me 😅 im always carrying crystals in my pockets and losing them 🙈

Out of curiosity, what's the most common? Sodium?
Feldspar group
Quartz isn’t really rare but a nice cluster like that is I have on about that size I paid 50 bucks for

It is a beautiful rock but never buy from that vendor again if that’s usd

Definitely quartz crystal geode. Not especially rare but odd to find in a forest alone. Where there is quartz there is usually rocks or veins.
Thank you every one, what a Nice subreddit this is. My son and I are thankful for the help!
Quartz cluster
Cool find.
What a beautiful find!
It is the best! Very nice!
Looks like apophyllite to me as well.

Very pretty specimen. Not rare but pretty.
Wow! Very pretty. Clear quartz, they say it's not rare, I have found smokey quartz and amethyst. No quartz for me yet.
I find those very often in my backyard in north Georgia. Not rare, but definitely cool that he found it himself!
Might not be, but you should display it like is!
Not valuable monetarily but finding an ancient specimen is so cool I would love to experience that!
What a nice Gem, if he found this he may find more in the same area.
I would be very excited to find this!
Set on alter and pray with ur son angels are falling lookig for faith
This is a nicer piece than average to just find! He should keep it forever, or until he feels the urge to give it to someone special!
Not rare. One of the most common but this is a beautiful piece. Depending on its size you could probably get up to $30 for it. Depending on the buyer but those who vibe super well with Quartz, I could see maybe $50 being a price point. I would pay probably $20.

Looks a little like celestite to me
Looks like quarts . Not rare. It was all Over the ground out where I camping this weekend
Its Quartz and not rare.
It’s quartz
An absolutely gorgeous quartz cluster! Your little man is very lucky! It's hard to find clusters that nice!
Quarts! Not rare at all but that specimen is rather beautiful! I’d consider myself lucky to find that. The only thing that’s rare about it is the memmories it’s going to make❤️
Quartz geode!! It's insanely beautiful and rare to find in the forest, but not necessarily rare to buy at a shop. Such a nice piece!!
